After the last OTA update, my Moto G5 started to boot with the following warning:
"
Your device has failed verification and may not work properly.
To learn more visit:
motorolacom/unlockbootloader
ID: N/A
Your device will boot in 5 seconds
"
It also started to restart randomly.
I did some research on the web and found out that this warning appears when someone unlocks/roots the device.
The problem is that I aver never unlocked the bootloader or rooted the device.
When I boot to fastboot it says "OEM Locked" and the app DevCheck says that I am not rooted.
It seems to me that the update corrupted something and now some piece of software flags my device as unlocked.
Besides the irritating screen, some apps are not working properly or cannot be downloaded from the store.
I tried to reset to factory settings and wipe caches. Problem still happens.
I'd like to know if you guys know a solution for this problem.
I saw on another post that this problem was happening on some Verizon Moto Zs and they provided a software to reinstall the rom
Unfortunately, Motorola has not released a software to do the same to unlocked devices.
My ROM version is: NPPS25.137-33-6 (yeah, there is an "S" that I don't find in the roms available here)
The baseband is: M8937_8000.122.02.45R
(CEDRIC_BRAZILDSDS_CUST)
I was thinking in loading the rom into internal memory, reboot in recovery mode and flash the rom using the option "Install package from zip".
Do you know if it would work without an unlocked bootloader. Is it safe?
Thank you for the help,
Don't know if you can flash the boot logo without an unlocked bootloader but if you can here it is
Put phone in fastboot mode
Download logo from link below
Enter the following in a windows command prompt where you have fastboot files (Google to learn howto install Android sdk) & the logo file
Code:
fastboot.exe flash logo logo-g5-fix.bin
http://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-idWfPYugGvREJaR3B0UFIxUkU/view?usp=sharing
If you can't then you have no option but to wait for Motorola to fix it if you really haven't modded your phone
TheFixItMan, I really appreciate your answer.
But in that case wouldn't I just be changing the warning screen?
The problems with Netflix and other apps would remain.
I need something to fix the cause of the problem.
Have you guys heard about that problem before?
This guy had the same problem, but verizon patched it:

You can go back to stock using ADB update or by flashing VERIFIED images in bootloader mode. This will work even when bootloader is locked.

To flash using bootloader I need just to copy the .zip in the internal memory, reboot in reboot in bootloader mode and select the option "install from .zip file"?
Where do I find the verified image for my device?
If I flash an unverified image will my device brick ou the bootloader will present a "impossible to procede" screen?
Thank you for the help!

you can flash what ever you want in fastboot -
However - In terms of firmware, if you are trying to flash incorrect firmware then the verification check will fail and it will not flash
Just don't flash a new bootloader if you are worried about it - its not needed unless you are upgrading an android version and that version has an updated bootloader
So I am safe if I follow these steps:
Manually Update Android Nougat for Moto G5 (NPP25.137-33) via Recovery
First of all, Go to Settings –> About Phone –> Tap on Build Number 7 Times.
Go to Developer Options –> Enable USB Debugging.
Save Stock Android Nougat rom for Moto G5 and save it in Internal storage.
Reboot Moto G5 Plus to Recovery Mode.
Select Apply Update from SD Card.
Select the Downloaded ZIP file from SD Card.
Wait until Installation process Completes.
Once the Installation completed. Reboot the Phone.
If my ROM is a wrong version, will the bootloader detect and deny instalation?

if you are talking about an official ota update then it will fail - you cannot update like this
An offical ota zip requires a non rooted device, unmodified system partition and stock recovery
you maybe able to download the ota update and save it (its in the cache partition)
then use flashfire app to install it
note if its a custom rom than recovery mode will allow you to flash any zip and will flash anything unless the updater script specifies a certain build.prop target eg phone model or other criteria that would stop it flashing if it was false
If you want to flash firmware you need the firmware image and flash it via fastboot

Yeah, I see that, but looking into the stock rom .zip file I cannot find the correct ID that matches to my. But since I posted the reply, I´ve downloaded from a mirror in lolinet, and correct flash my phone.
I'm currently on Miui 8.5 global stable, rooted n twrpd. I'm trying to install RR Rom but keep getting Error 7 "modem check fail". So basically I can either edit a file update script. txt in Rom or flash latest firmware. I don't want to edit file as that's their for a reason so I'd rather flash firmware but can't find it.
Please could someone help?
Many thanks
I had this error when tried to install LineageOS at first.

You can choose when you install with Mi Flash between: clean all / keep user data / clean and lock
I don't think the keep user data will work well, but I'm pretty sure you can use "clean all" without the lock and it will work.
I think I did with lock just to be sure, because unlocking again is about 20 seconds (after you received the required permission for your account from Xiaomi).
No matter what you choose to do, as long as you can unlock you bootloader, you can re-flash your recovery / rom / root / everything you want, it's not a problem.

I would recommend you to apply for unlocking permission for your MI account, so you will already have it when you need it:

Hello,
I heard about a new Miui Version. Can i update without Data loss?
Maybe there is an OTA link anderen i do not lose any Data.
Is it possible?
An If, is my updated phone as quick as when i so Clean full new Installation?
Thank you!
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.1.0....roGlobal_V10.0.1.0.OEIMIFH_98721c9743_8.1.zip
this is the download link
i am going to flash it via twrp! (from Omnirom) so my internal storage is not Encrypted!
but if you are coming from miui9.6.4 etc then chances are your DATA partition is encrypted and twrp might not able to flash the flashrom (link given above)
however ! i bought on RN5p on 9.6.3 when OTA came, i downloaded and flashed it via twrp to 9.6.4 , that time i didnt face any encryption error!
encryption is mostly set in place when you enable screen pattern with fingerprint sensor! (even if you remove it later on, the partition stays encrypted and twrp wont able to flash recoveryrom!
then only oneoption
either save this file as UPDATE.zip and flash it via updater (miui's own recovery-image)
or download the FASTBOOT VERSION of miui 10 and make it via MIflasher! (you will loose all data )
also you may flash REDWOLF recovery, it has power to wipe partitions for RN5pro after asking for decryption pattern from you (as password) , i flashed RR and OMni last time via redwolf recovery after giving correct pattern while wiping /data /system /vendor partitions!
OK thank you.
So when in download the link .zip above and install it via official xiaomi updater installed on my Phone i wont loose Data?
Is this possible?
By the way, i have redmi Note 5 global Version (whyred)

1. try with twrp , or redwolf (wiping partitions (accept internal storage) , if it wipes successfully then OK, flash the miui10
2. if it gives error then boot into miui 9.x.x and save the miui10 file as update.zip in internal storage Download folder and open updater and call that update as "update from zip file" and try to do that
REMEMBER! REDMI NOTE 5Pro has code 4 ANTI ROLLBAK ENABLED!
if miui flashing change that anti rolback code to 5, then YOU CAN NEVER DOWNGRADE to MIUI9, if you try! you will FRY your motherboard
you can check your status
connect RN5p in fastboot mode, open minimal adb & Fastboot, and type
fastboot getvar anti
and enter
if it shows 3 then you are OK , but if it shows 4 then you can never flash any MIUI rom which came older days!
so be sure! plz ! read log of miui10

Okay so did you have try to update with this method ?
I have a Redmi Note 5 Whyred but when I have unlock my phone I wanted to install Xposed (in the STOCK ROM) and after the reboot... So i want to know if :
-i will lose data if I do this update like this ?
-the update software will work after the update in Miui10 ?
Thank you for you answer (AND NO I DON'T WANT TO USE THE BACKUP APP BECAUSE COPY APK DON'T COPY APP DATA !!!)

HI guys
this thread only for those who don't have their own persists, efs and installed someone else persists and want to install stock oreo ops28.85.13.
I had lost my efs and persist so there it is I lost my IMEI and VOLTE (networks on both sims) So, overcome these issue that's what I did
1. - I installed TWRP flashable pixel experience Rom and erase my modset1 and modset2 and reboot after that I got up my IMEI number and took a back up of efs using TWRP and place to a safe place like on pc or google drive.
2. - but VOLTE is not fixed so fixing VOLTE is not gonna work on pixel experience you have to install stock ROM nougat version using FASTBOOT download only that version suitable for you or specific to your device.
3. - After flashing stock nougat Rom check your IMEI information from Setting>about>status>imei info. If it is zero now you have to flash TWRP after flashing TWRP Restore your pixel experience efs into nougat and reboot after that you should see networks on your device or check IMEI information
4. - coming to VOLTE, I found some threads about someone persist and I downloaded that persist and flash it on my stock nougat ROM and reboot after rebooting I got my VOLTE working. The first thing takes a backup of your efs and persist and again place it somewhere safe.
5. - now oreo ops28.85.13 comes so, I was a little bit afraid to install it because again I am gonna lose my IMEI and persist.
5.1 - installation of oreo is a bit tricky what you have to do download oreo from this link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/moto-g5-plus-fastboot-flash-stock-oreo-t3848433
and follow the commands installed oreo
5.2 - now you will lose your IMEI and persist again so you should have the backup of EFS and persist from nougat version and
installed TWRP on your oreo device
5.3 - now download TWRP flash oreo soak1 with the aroma installer and flash firmware only firmware nothing else and don't
reboot go back and restore your efs and persist and reboot it will get up your network and VOLTE
i also lost my persist i flash other's persist can i recover my persist and move to custom oreo rom?? currently i am on PE latest patch with VOLTE using other persist. Guide me to recover My persist.

sorry bro if u flash someone persists then there is no way u can get back your own persist the same thing happened to me bro
but if want to try to go to this thread and check it out
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/fix-persist-resolve-imei0-explanation-t3825147
just follow the instruction bro but do one thing first take a backup of your current Persist and EFS using TWRP and place it somewhere safe because if you can't get your own persist this backup will help you to get VOLTE to work on stock oreo
I hope you understand what I am trying to say
I flashed the ota over stock 7.0 and it installed successfully but lost imei and both sims. Please help
i installed ota of oreo over stock nougot but forgot that i used other persist earlier. now my imei is gone no network is gone too. So i installed pixel experiance and also used erase modem command and now in pixel rom too my network is gone. what should i do. Pls guide me through this
i tried this guide, but after flashed pixelexperience my imei doesnt back
Did you use lastest PE 8.1 Rom?
I tried recover imei on Oreo Roms but it didn't work maybe I need old Oreo roms?

Shows you which error?
Did you try to install it via local update?
Anyway, your best bet is to install TWRP and flash the CN ROM through TWRP.
Alternatively, use miflash tool in the unofficial unbrick tool to flash the CN firmware via edl mode
Nubia package error

Back up your data cos flashing TWRP will wipe everything.
Also, when installing CN, get version 6.23

Otg refers to a external usb device you connect to the phone. If you have the update.zip on the root of the internal memory it should show up.
If it does not. You should use the root without unlocking bootloader tutorial to install TWRP. The zip will flash from there with no problems.
