Three in Touch - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Hi,
As wifi calling is not supported on Three UK I have to use the Three in Touch app and when using this I have noticed that during a call if you have to switch apps to check something the call and app are terminated and there is no record saved off the call.
You would expect that three kept this app upto date, but they having stating that as phones are now being released with wifi calling built-in it is no longer needed, yet they don't support the pixel 3 for this feature so you need the app.
Are there are 3 users in UK that use the app for calling when on wifi and experienced the same problem or willing to test to see if they do get the issues

Native android WiFi calling with three is now working for pixel 3
Don't know how it happened but the options in mobile settings and phone app settings appeared with WiFi calling. Far far better than using the in touch app
I'm using a Google supplied pixel 3 with stock rom

No VOLTE/Advanced calling.

I picked up this phone a few days ago and I just noticed that VOLTE wasn't working like it should. The settings menu shows that I have the option on, but everytime I make a call or receive a call it instantly switches from 4g to 1x, and therefore I don't have simultaneous voice and data. Anyone have this issue too?
I checked my Verizon account to see if that feature is enabled for my line. Advanced calling shows that VOLTE is on for calls and video chat. Turning it on and off doesn't change anything, turning wifi calling on and off doesn't affect it. I've tried rebooting, and no luck. Seems like a software issue?
I noticed this on a call today as well. Subscribing...
Perhaps the person on the other end needs it as well? I've found calls between my girlfriend and I would switch from HD to non-HD and it seemed like it was due to service on her end. Just a thought. Its actually only happened a couple of times to me.

No luck with that one either. I've tried calling other lines on my plans and I got the same results. My S5 did a pretty good job maintaining HD Voice every time I made a call to those lines where LTE coverage was available.
I called CS and they didn't say it was a common problem, but they put in a report pretty immediately for me and should have someone contacting me the next 24-48 hours.
Just a quick update. I didn't do anything, I used my phone as is and it just started switching to HD voice and maintaining LTE while calling. So either they did something on their side, or the phone is just a little buggy.
I have never had that VoLTE icon pop up on my phone but if I look in my recent calls list I do see a Wifi icon on some of the calls.. I assume this is VoLTE??

That's WiFi calling.
I have used WiFi calling and it seems to work alright. Is this the same as VoLTE? If it is not how do you enable VoLTE?
I just found it in settings, it is enabled however I have never seen any kind of an icon that it is working. How do I know if it is or isnt?
Where is the setting for VoLTE in Settings? I am not seeing it anywhere.
EDIT: A google search showed me it should be in call settings, but it is not there. Any help much appreciated.

WiFi calling

Hey Guys,
Moved from the original pixel to the S9. On the pixel you could turn on WiFi calling through an option on the phone dialer. I can't see the same option on this dialer. Went into Vodafone and they told me that the phone defaults to WiFi calling when the signal is poor. Is this the case or am I being fobbed off? Making calls is really poor when in my house.
Cheers
It needs to be switched on in Connections/WiFi calling in Settings.
i believe it only works it the phone is bought from Vodafone - i know i asked them once and said only Vodafone phones can do wi-fi calling
Bobbed into three today to ask about it even unlocked handsets should have the Wi-Fi calling option she said wait for the samsung update which is out on Friday so hopefully all handsets follow suit

This seems to be carrier dependant. With a three SIM I do it see the option but I can if I switch to an EE one.

I have wifi calling available on my s9 plus which I bought direct from Samsung, go to the dialer, click the 3 dots in the top right corner. Then select settings, scroll to the bottom and you will see the wifi calling option which can be toggled on or off
It's not on mine I'm on three UK but on BTU handset
I'm hoping the update on Friday will give me the option

Ok so here's the kicker...the option appeared and I turned it on. Since then I have factory reset my phone (massive battery drain). Upon booting back up the option had disappeared again. Spoken to Vodafone and they have disabled and enabled it in my account but still no option to turn it on on my phone. Also got the march security update last night and still no option. This is driving me crazy
I've also got an S9 direct from Samsung (BTU), on Vodafone UK
- I'm assuming because they allowed WiFi calling on the S6, S7 and S9 with non-Vodafone firmware, that they'll allow it on the S9. It's the only thing I really need.
I hate carrier firmware, but would flash for WiFi calling as my signal at home is rubbish - I flashed my S8 on Three to get WiFi calling and VoLTE. But I'm a bit scared to flash the S9 on Vodafone in case I get the German CSC issue crop-up (does anyone know exactly what conditions cause this to happen?)
I'm not actually too fussed about VoLTE on Vodafone as their 3G signal is pretty strong everywhere (apart from at my house!), but with Three VoLTE was vital to get a reliable signal in a lot of places.
What is this update on Friday (today?) - is this confirmed or is this just something that the Vodafone staff (or Three?) are fobbing people off with? First I've heard of it.
And it's gone again...trying to explain to the "technical" guys at the call centre results in me losing my temper and them supposedly ringing me back in 1 hours time because it will be fixed... Seriously getting p****d off!!!
Any further news on this?
I've got the toggle set to on, but still no wifi calling (just says not connected to network when trying to phone). I have also noticed the toggle switch appear and disappear at will - normally restarting the phone gets it back
So I'm guessing the only "fix" is to flash the three firmware on it?

Hi, i checked the Three website and the s9 doesn't yet show as compatible for Three wifi calling, i'm assuming that when they do it'll get enabled via a carrier settings update or something for unlocked phones (my unlocked iPhone worked this way).
For a list of the compatible handsets got to the website, not sure what the rules are about posting links so search for 'three wifi calling' and it's the top result in google.
True it doesn't list them, but upon speaking with three they state the device is supported for WiFi calling, but only if purchased directly through three. Reason for this is the device them comes with there carriers software to enable the feature.

Ah thanks, in that case it's false hope for me and i'm now completely stuck! really don't want to flash firmware.....
I'm on O2 and what they have you do is download My O2. Select the option to enable 4G and WiFi calling and it checks compatibility and activates it within 24 hours. Then follow the guide in this thread to enable WiFi calling.
The only problem is I can't tell if it's working or not. It does appear that the line is open longer. My current router doesn't provide the depth required to monitor traffic on devices connected to it. Annoying.
There seems to be a software issue with the s9 and wifi calling. For me, its available (Icon shows in taskbar) , then next minute it's gone. After a reboot it comes back. I made a wifi call when I saw the icon again, and it switched to 4g mid call and the icon didn't come back again until after yet another reboot. It always bombs out pretty quickly after a reboot. I woke up this morning and saw the icon return on it's own this time (hadn't rebooted since last night) only for it to then disappear yet again. It's very buggy. Got an iphone here too which annoyingly works flawlessly with wifi calling so it's not an issue with my router.
Wifi calling
I just pull my notification panel down all the way and wifi calling is just there I'm assuming you have to be connected to use it. It would be good if it was able to use wifi signals while you were out without having to be connected. Touch wood my calls have been good so I only use it at home when phone reception is not as strong

On a U.K. DUOs model on O2 WiFi calling is fine.
Do remember the phone is a bit picky about the WiFi network and at some places just wont enable it.

Sharing Wifi as a hotspot

I was wondering if there's any way to create a hotspot using my Pixel 2 XL which uses the currently connected Wifi network as the data source (rather than mobile data). I hear this is possible on the Pixel 3/XL, and there also used to be an app called fqrouter2 that could do this, however the app was never updated to work past Kitkat. Any ideas?

OnePlus 7T on Google Fi

Has anyone activated a OP 7T on Google Fi recently? If so, does it work well and does WiFI calling work?
I have activated my OnePlus 7T on Google Fi and have been using it for about 2 or 3 months now. I'm not sure about the WiFi calling, I don't see an option for it in the Google Fi app, and I don't see an option for it in System Settings anywhere. I can tell you that you can't install Google's Phone app. I don't know why, it shows up in my Play Store Library, but I don't have the option to install it. Service is still good. Sometimes calls do take time to actually start dialing and there are a few locations in my area between cities where my service will drop but the radius that I lose service in is rather small. I didn't have the service dropping issues with my Pixel on Google Fi.

I switch back and forth between my Pixel 4 XL and My OnePlus 7T, and I also use Googe Fi. If you're rooted, you can download the google framework magisk module. I then downloaded the google phone app from apkmirror, and set it as default phone app. I also have the WiFi Calling option in the Google Fi settings. WiFi calling is funny like that with Google Fi though. for me, the only time that I actually know that I'm on a WiFi call is when I see the WiFi icon on the connected call screen of the phone app. Hope this helps.
Yep, not google fi here, but using the google phone app. Install the google dialer framework magisk module. Then you should be able to get google phone from the play store. Make sure you go to google phone's app info and allow "display over other apps" or else the chat bubble (whatever it's actually called) won't work. I have it set as the phone app, and the oneplus one disabled.
The oneplus dialer is better suited for dual sim calling though :\
So I've got a OnePlus 7T and wifi calling had been great for several months. I just noticed today that it wasn't working, and the option is suddenly gone from my Fi app options. Has anyone else experienced this?
That said, if you need wifi calling I may hold off on switching until someone else can verify that there's is ok.
I am using it. Activated few days ago on tmo version (HD1907). Prior to that it was converted to international fw 10.0.16.HD65AA.
Everything seems to work except:
1) I have option to enable Wi-Fi calling in Google FI app, it is enabled. If I turn phone into the plane mode and enable Wi-Fi it doesn't allow me to call saying I have to disable airplane mode. This used to work on Pixel. So I cannot tell it VoWiFi works or not, maybe yes maybe not, you will never tell unless check your billing and/or be in an area where you only have Wi-Fi and maybe roaming. I wasn't.
2) I am unable to switch network to Sprint, even though it shall be formally merged with TMO by now. Signal Spy just cannot do it. That said, it used to do it on Pixel couple years ago, but stopped working even on Pixel. So I am uncertain if that is a body or merger issue. Yet have to be in an area where only Sprint or US Cellular towers are present, but this will hardly happen.
3) FI specific google VPN does not work (this is for a good in my book).
Visual voicemail works with OOS phone app.
I can install google dealer without Magisk module, so that module is not needed on this FW. I don't see any benefits to use it though, except if I would like to use Google's call screening and spam protection. I am using a 3rd party dealer anyway with its own features like that pre-existed Google's implementation. I.e. if that is an issue, that issue can be solved by a 3rd party SW, you are not bound to Google here. But you can install their dealer on global FW if you so want.
Other than that everything seems to work. I'd like to see what happens in roaming but I don't expect problems there. It would be a very strange idea to prohibit roaming based on the IMEI. Anyhow, there is no way to check during the times of closed borders.
I didn't install a second SIM yet though.

Update: today I was in the area without network but with Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi calling with FI works. I was able to make and receive calls via phone app. App was showing it is calling via Wi-Fi. So that is purely artificial SW limitation that I cannot make calls from Airplane mode with Wi-Fi enabled, when in such situation it works.
I've been using my 7t on Google Fi for about a year now. I am using stock software and stock apps for voice. I installed google messenger to resolve some chat issues (from play store). Wifi calling works as it should with stock dialer as well as mms/sms.
The only issue I have had is... the phone will not automatically switch to the strongest provider. In my area, the strongest provider is t-mobile, therefor I essentially have a t-mobile data plan through Google Fi.
Typically I find that wifi calling increases the time from when you finished dialing to the instance of the phone actually ringing. Without wifi calling, the timing is spot on.
zero complaints.

Question WiFi calling working for anyone on Pro or regular?

Is wifi calling working for anyone on pro or regular P6? For myself, and quite a few others in some reddit threads it is not.
I've checked all my settings, and they all appear to be correct. But when I try to make a wifi call, I keep getting told that the network is not available. I'm able to browse the net over wifi on the phone w/out any problems. I'm also able to use google voice to make a call over wifi, but not the regular phone app.
I'm on GoogleFI with the FI variant of the phone -- have contacted support and was told the issue has been escalated. Has anyone run into a similar issue on the P6/P and found any fixes?
I got an unlocked pro and wifi calling is working for me on AT&T
WiFi calling working on Verizon with unlocked Pro for me.
Guess I should make this more specific -- I have the FI variant, on GoogleFI. It appears that everyone else who is also having this issue is also on FI
Wifi calling works great on TMobile with unlocked Google variant.
I'm on Google Fi, bought mine unlocked from Google Store. I have one spam call answered by Call Screen on WiFi.
EDIT: Just placed a call to a movie theater and it used WiFi.
Guess I'll pickup a normal unlocked one from BB and see if that works any better. Have basically 0 reception at home, so wifi calling is a must.
6 & 6 Pro both working with Wi-Fi Calling here (UK BT Mobile)
Sounds like an issue with Google fi.
Working flawlessly here on ee-gb
6 & 6p WiFi calling fully functional (UK EE)
Unlocked 6P on Verizon Wifi calling 100% fine.
No issues with WiFi calling for me on the Google Fi on P6P.
It works for me but not on every wifi network. When I'm at home I never see the wifi calling in the top left but when I'm at work I see wifi calling in the top left.
