Front camera question - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

So I upgraded from the g6 and on the g6 the ffc has 2 camera options standard and the wide angle.
Handling the g7, I do not see those opens when I use the ffc. Am I missing something? Phone is on latest update.

LG G5 LS992 Camera app crashes on launch

I have recently purchased a used phone from Ebay, and have been battling the camera app. App launches and quickly crashes after briefly displaying the front camera image. I have tried safe mode, clearing the Camera apps cache and data, along with the storage cached data with no effect. I am running Android Ver. 7.0 with everything else updated to its latest version and with nothing disabled. I have tired Camera MX and while the app will run the image is upside down, and the wide angle camera option is not available. I appreciate any help that might be given. I will try for another few days before giving up and refunding the phone. Thanks for your time in advance.
Tried the app you mentioned and my picture is just fine. Of course you can't switch to wide angle. You can't in most 3rd part apps. You could try using the LG flash thingy and redo it. But odds are someone sold a defective phone on eBay cause that's how things go.

After some more time exploring different apps I realized the wide-angle camera is the camera that is working. I wonder if replacing the 16-megapixel will restore functionality. Can you confirm which back camera is used by default?
When looking at the cameras the (16 Mp camera is on the left) and the (8 Mp wide-angle camera is on the right). When the camera app crashes on an LG G5 LS992 that means that one or both of these cameras need replacing. The replacement procedure is simple and the hardest part is separating the phone's case after removing the bottom two screws. The 16 Mp camera has a metallic cover and the 8 Mp camera has a black plastic cover.

XT1797 Camera Awful?

I have the XT1797 dual sim with single (NOT DUAL) rear camera and the pictures it takes are truly awful. The worst I have seen on any phone, even my old Nokia C2, 3.2 megapixel camera works better then this one. The pictures taken with auto settings are all very dark and missing most of the detail. I can mess around with pro settings, brighten up the image by over-exposing, and mess with white balance and ISO settings, and get some more detail, but the pictures are still washed out, dull, lifeless and crappy.
Are other people seeing similar poor results or have I gotten a dud?

Try Open Camera? Obviously Motorola isn't good at tweaking camera app...

Yes I have tried it but unfortunately it doesnt do panorama pics (which is mostly what I use) and I couldnt figure out how to get it to use the max screen resolution or format as the stock camera. I tried some other camera apps such as the google port here on xda but it was flakey as hell, and the other ones i tried were missing features with no improvement in quality.
My old phone moto droid razr m with 8mp camera was heaps better. In fact it was a much better phone then this one.
the camera itself is actually well done and good but the firmware and original software is awful
I'm using Camera API 2 and that one https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s/themes/google-camera-port-hdr-t3700896
on lineageos with vaserbanix' rainbox kernel > https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s/development/kernel-tweaks-t3744384
Updated to stock oreo 8.1 and the camera is much better now.

No front facing wide angle selfie

Did lg remove this feature. Noticed it was missing after a software update last month

Fake rear second camera?

Daisy should have second rear 5MPx camera but I dont think that is even used, it feels like just a hole. Doesnt help for bokeh, in low ligh, for zooming. If I covered it image was the same. Anyone knows when this camera take any effect?
same problem, bad front camera experience

next time please read post before you write some unrelated text
I think so too
It is definitely not fake.
You can test by going to dialer and typing *#*#64663#*#*
In that test mode you can test each camera lens ( finger over lens) and that will verify both cams do in fact "work"
Not saying the software actually uses both, but the cams are in fact real

Im not so sure in my case:laugh::laugh::laugh:
edit:same for dual back camera
With the stock camera app, it does work correctly. Perhaps you should contact warranty...
The portrait mode that focus only on what is close must be a proof that the second camera works, right?
If you cover the second camera in potrait mode in stock cam app, you will see that it is not working properly anymore
the 2nd camera only there to enhance DOF information
not to actually take a picture.
front camera is also able to fake the DOF but its slower and not so accurate when compared to the rear camera

This works for me! Thanks. I don't know why others doubt their smartphones
i also use this model and i think that secondary dual cam is just for show off it does not do any thing. its a mimic only for branding purpose.
So many people have no idea what they bought.
The first sensor is a 12MPx Sony sensor (bottom one) that captures standard photos, in focus.
The second sensor is a 5MPx Samsung sensor (top one) that analyzes the whole frame and returns RAW depth data for the camera app to process, to bring a better blur effect for the portrait mode.
This is a bonus to the classic software portrait mode, it helps. It's not useless, and it's not for show off.
The fact that it doesn't work as good in dark environment is because the Samsung sensor is cheap and can't give enough data in darkness.
Now, let's see when both cameras work at the same time (not applicable on this device):
- when the secondary sensor is black and white, this helps the pictures get more dynamic range
- when the secondary sensor is the same as the other sensor, this is used for 3D imaging (chech HTC 3D)
Now when 2 modules work independently and can be switched via software:
- when the main lens are normal and the other lens are wide lens
- when the main lens are normal and the other lens are zoom lens
Now, our device doesn't fit in either of the above categories and the best way to use the Portrait mode is to use a ToF sensor, but baring in mind the price of our device the ToF sensor was replaced with a standard, low quality camera sensor from Samsung.

Unable to select tele-lens on LG G8s

Greetings Just got my hand on a LG G8S here in Norway and I'm pretty happy so far. I started exploring the (three) cameras and noticed today, that if I covered the tele-lens, it did not make any difference. Activating the zoom mode (big tree icon) still provided an image, showing that it was just using a digital zoom on the main lens. Wide lens works fine however.
I also noticed, in manual mode, I could not activate the tele mode at all. Seeing also that the aparture did not match the tele one witch should be f/2.4.
Could it be that I have a G8 firmware, which only supports two cameras?
Thanks!
Pål
Try This.
Guess this scenario is been discussed and tested on other LG triple camera phones with Telephoto lens.
G8s telephoto lens with F2.6 needs good light to work, in poor lighting it switches back to the main/standard lens and offer digital Zoom.
Try outdoors with good lighting, switch to tele lens and then cover this lens with your finger.
Not sure why the software has to decide which lens to choose, May be this is the so called AI camera feature
Try gcam. It uses telephoto lens even at night
Hey, if you want to force the use of the telelens lens long press the little tree button, and it will show a live mini-preview of each lens. Choose the tele view and take the picture. You'll notice the difference in the quality and stability of the preview opposed to when you try to scroll smooth past 1.9x zoom.
But you won't be able to do anything else but snap the shot.
As soon as you click in something out of this preview option, whether to adjust exposure or anything, you'll notice you'll leave the telelens to the main sensor 2x digital
It's not ideal, but Works... Looks like a.... Bug?
Know this has been dead for a while but I investigated this and it bases the lens selection on focus distance and light availability. If you try to use the tele lens on close up subjects it will auto select the main sensor. If used for shooting more generally the tele lens is selected. I imagine light availability makes a difference too. I wish it wasn't blocked in manual camera mode though.
