camera takes unusable pictures. but excellent macro images

I am facing an unusualy issue which has cropped up suddenly.
I am not able to use the rear camera of the moto z play for anything as all images are extremely blurry as if an opaque cover is kept in front of it. But If I use the camera from a 1 inch or lesser distance, the clarity is superb as if its only meant for macro shots.
This issue is not happening with the front camera but only the rear camera.
Please help.

Sounds like hardware problem
Do you have a warranty?

Seems like problem with laser focus, check if manual focus is working or not.
If it's working then maybe it's the laser module that's giving trouble.
PS: check if the lens is clear and there's no dust inside.
Hi,
I changed my battery yesterday and my camera is behaving the same way. Manual focus does not work.
I had to apply a lot of heat to open the screen and also on the back, to loosen the old battery. Could it have damaged the rear camera?
If I replace the camera module, the laser sensor will be replaced too?
I also lost the finger print sensor, but maybe that's because I lost the lever of the zif connector.
OP, did you have some heat on your phone too?

Front Camera Fixed Focus Issue

My RN5Pro is running on stock miui version 9.5 the front cam is nice in low lights but the dissappointung part is that the front cams focus is fixed so that the pictures took in front cam has a little blurry nature the details are missing and face looks like painted .. is there any way to make manual or autofocus work on the front cam .. i have tried so many camera apps but while switching to front cam the focus looks locked .. if rooting and enabling camera2api helps it .. im noob here so someone who knows plzz reply.......
....
As you wrote it, its FIXED.
The RN5 has a strange, short focus distance. The distance is about an arm away: if you take a selfie, make sure you hold the phone as far as you can in your hand. But if you use a selfie stick, its too far, and faces will be blurry.
Earlier phones had a front cam, that was fixed to near infinite, so almost everything looked "sharp".
This new objective system provides a natural bokeh effect on the front cam, and if you're in focus, its very sharp. But the focus range is really short, so you're easily fall in or out of the focus point.
I also heard this problem from a Samsung A5 2017 user.
tl;dr: There's no mechanical focus on the front can, you cant change the focuspoint.

as u said one of the pic i took had sharp details which i took in an arm length but when i tried it ones again the focus became blurry ...... i want to know that is there any way to change the fixed focus point by any means...
Theres no way to change it.

Front camera question

So I upgraded from the g6 and on the g6 the ffc has 2 camera options standard and the wide angle.
Handling the g7, I do not see those opens when I use the ffc. Am I missing something? Phone is on latest update.

Unable to select tele-lens on LG G8s

Greetings Just got my hand on a LG G8S here in Norway and I'm pretty happy so far. I started exploring the (three) cameras and noticed today, that if I covered the tele-lens, it did not make any difference. Activating the zoom mode (big tree icon) still provided an image, showing that it was just using a digital zoom on the main lens. Wide lens works fine however.
I also noticed, in manual mode, I could not activate the tele mode at all. Seeing also that the aparture did not match the tele one witch should be f/2.4.
Could it be that I have a G8 firmware, which only supports two cameras?
Thanks!
Pål
Try This.
Guess this scenario is been discussed and tested on other LG triple camera phones with Telephoto lens.
G8s telephoto lens with F2.6 needs good light to work, in poor lighting it switches back to the main/standard lens and offer digital Zoom.
Try outdoors with good lighting, switch to tele lens and then cover this lens with your finger.
Not sure why the software has to decide which lens to choose, May be this is the so called AI camera feature
Try gcam. It uses telephoto lens even at night
Hey, if you want to force the use of the telelens lens long press the little tree button, and it will show a live mini-preview of each lens. Choose the tele view and take the picture. You'll notice the difference in the quality and stability of the preview opposed to when you try to scroll smooth past 1.9x zoom.
But you won't be able to do anything else but snap the shot.
As soon as you click in something out of this preview option, whether to adjust exposure or anything, you'll notice you'll leave the telelens to the main sensor 2x digital
It's not ideal, but Works... Looks like a.... Bug?
Know this has been dead for a while but I investigated this and it bases the lens selection on focus distance and light availability. If you try to use the tele lens on close up subjects it will auto select the main sensor. If used for shooting more generally the tele lens is selected. I imagine light availability makes a difference too. I wish it wasn't blocked in manual camera mode though.

Question Selfie camera quality

I've been taking a lot of photos as of late, both with the front and rear cameras. I've noticed for a while that the selfie camera doesn't really produce clear and crisp images the way my old 2XL did. I've come across a thread where some folks have encountered the same issue, and wondering if anyone else here is experiencing this?
I've included a link that best shows exactly what I'm talking about, although the person isn't me in the thread.
If the camera is this bad I hope it can be fixed.

I have the same issue and it is frustrating, I also tried with 3rd party apps but still, the selfie images are kinda blurry. Is this a software issue or a hardware issue?
I've noticed the same compared to my 4xl. The selfies under lower than normal light come out a bit blurry or not as good as I remember them on my previous phone.
The front camera is a fixed focus lens. Physically it has a sharp spot and only that spot is sharp, the rest of it is all processing.
No real way around physics and lack of autofocus.

This. Some older models had front facing camera autofocus, P6 does not (unfortunately)

Do other phone manufacturers have this design, or is it only google?
