[TUTORIAL] How to add more languages to the Xiaomi MI4 Windows 10 mobile ROM

I bought the Xiaomi MI4 to test the windows mobile 10 rom and I soon realized that the ROM provided by Xiaomi has got only two available languages: US English and Chinese. This leads people from different countries to have an uncompletely translated rom (phone language remains English or chinese even if you download keyboard and speech language of your country and you choose the relevant regional settings). You will get a 50% translated phone and you will not be able to use Cortana in your language, for example.
So, here you can find a simple tutorial to let your phone speak your mother language:
First, you have to install the Xiaomi MI4 WM 10 rom as per instructions provided here or in the international miui forum.
After the phone reboots the first time, dont't even choose the language and let it rest untouched until you have performed the following steps:
1) Download the language packages you will upload to the phone from the 10586.107 release here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3661157&d=1456506098 (open the .txt file and select the URLs of the files you need to download, copy them and paste the strings into your browser: it will start to download)
I downloaded the following files for the italian language (just search the relevant files for your own country: it-it is for Italy es-es for Spain, and so on):

You can skip the speech data and the keybord data cabs, as you can download them later on when you will configure the phone.
2) Put the 2 cabs you have downloaded in a directory (e.g. c:\cabs)
3) download the iutool package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3860782&d=1472659473 open the .zip file and click the .msi to install it on your PC
4) Open the file explorer on the PC and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\bin\i386 . Right click holding down the shift key in an empty part of the window and choose to open a command window right there.
5) Now grab your phone, connect it to the PC via the USB cable, and inside the command window you opened on the PC, paste the following command: iutool -V -p pathtothefolderwiththetwocabs (e.g. c:\cabs as I suggested)
6) wait until the phone reboots and enjoy the Xiaomi Mi4 completely translated in your own language.
7) Configure your phone (download keyboard settings and speech settings for your country), then update the phone to the last available release (14393.67 at this time).

Finalmente qualcuno ci è riuscito!!!! è da dicembre scorso che vagavo per il web alla ricerca di una soluzione, ma ogni volta non trovavo niente e tornavo mio malgrado ad una rom android perchè non sopportavo la traduzione a metà... ma adesso vado subito a riprovare !! grazie in anticipo vi farò sapere! :laugh:

It really depends on the firmware version. You cannot flash a language pack of a previous release....

How to install:
You must have fastboot installed on your pc and then:

Non ho provato ancora questa TWRP, però so che è come dici, cioè non c'è più la partizione di recovery nei nuovi telefoni A/B quindi la custom recovery può essere avviata solo da PC tramite fastboot, non sarà più possibile lasciarla installata sul telefono pronta all'uso.
I didn't test this TWRP on my Mi A2 Lite, but you cannot install a custom recovery anymore on new phones with A/B partitioning scheme, because there isn't a recovery partition anymore. The only way to use a custom recovery is via fastboot with a PC.
EDIT: looking at the TWRP threads for Mi A1 (very similar device), it's possible to install TWRP by adding it to the boot partition (more or less how Magisk is installed).

Doesn't boot.

when i enter:

just the normal android starts and not the twrp recovery

Can confirm this. Doesn't work.
I don't want to disparage any hard working dev's efforts, but does anyone actually check these things?
We get a "stable" version and install instructions. But if it's impossible to boot through fastboot, it's impossible to test. So how can it be stable?
And if there's no recovery partition, it's impossible to install. So why do we get install instructions?
Is there any evidence that someone was able to disable forced encryption? I couldn't through a modified boot.img.

I was wrong in the previous posts, actually it seems that TWRP could be installed in the boot partition, by modifying it (just like Magisk does).
I checked the info in the Mi A1 forum, as the device is very similar to ours.
But if the TWRP doesn't boot via fastboot, it means it doesn't work. Probably OP compiled the code automatically, without testing it against the device.

We do not guarantee all images will work as expected. It might even not boot.

EDIT 2: finally I tested this, and the result is the same as the other users: it's not booting.
But instead it succeeded to remove Magisk somehow. It's because the phone has booted with the TWRP boot image, not with the Magisk boot.img saved in the phone. In fact, rebooting the phone brings back Magisk.

I can confirm this. Sme behavior for me. Somehow,it also removed the password to boot Android. My phone still show as encrypted but is not asking the password anymore to boot, which is weird.

You can root with magisk, flash Project treble GSIs and backup your device

crDroid (10) GSI ported to HUAWEI P10 Lite (Tested On WAS-LX1A)

Hi guys, i ported the crDroid gsi from here.
I removed the unnecessary files from the rom, and included gapps.
And AIO fixes thanks to @DarkJoker360.
Install steps are easy.
1. Download the ROM from HERE.
2. Extract it.
3. Download Pretoriano80's TWRP from "HERE" and flash it using "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk <path to TWRP.img>".
4. After that reboot to TWRP while holding the VOL+ and POWER button.
5. In TWRP wipe internal storage and flash "THIS" to decrypt the phone.
6. Reboot to TWRP again.
7. Reboot to bootloader while in TWRP.
8. Flash DarkJoker360's TWRP.
9. Wipe everything except Vendor.
10. Transfer the system.img from the rom to your device's internal storage.
11. Tap on Install, then tap on install image, look for the system.img and flash it as System Image and reboot.
I haven't had any bugs for now, if u find something tell me.

And none of them work? For me they both work, which version of emui are you on? I used the latest update for my phone.

wow this actually worked, android 11 aosp for prague booting now on my p10 lite

I did everything according to the instructions. Swears at the size of system.img

ok i will give you a method that i used to get it work on my p10 lite WAS-LX1A 4Gb Dual-Sim
First...if you come from latest stock rom was-lx1a 8.0.0b398c432 you need to downgrade to was-lx1a 8.0.0b394c432 with dload or how ever you prefer. cause with b398 you system partition is just 3,7Gb and can not get rezise. but with the b394 you can rezise it but its no need to. cause after encrypting with fstab.hi6250b and the known following steps...format wipe and so on...the system partition have a size from 4.5gb.
I use the Pretoriano80 TWRP 3.2.1.0 twrp_p10_lite_0.5_test.img
then after initial boot and setup the first config....you can see in apps there is superuser app...its integrate in the Rom.
For using magisk i did the following steps thanks to @Hami_Do
hang-in the system and open file manager in TWRP
delete the following
system/bin/adb_root
system/bin/abdb
system/etc/init/adb_root.rc
system/etc/init/adbd.rc
system/etc/init/su.rc
system/app/superuser
system/bin/su
system/xbin/su
flash the stock ramdisk.img
btw camera works with different modi
for magisk...thanks to @Hami_Do i use v23.0apk
then roboot to TWRP
there flash magisk v23.0-phh.zip

Why you dont try it? Make a Backup of your current System and return to Stock Rom cause you change Kernel and what ever more. After the initial boot configure the Stock Rom to activate Dev-Opt where you can activate OEM unlock and USB Debugging and so on...

My charging port is broken, i won't be able to do any ports until i get it fixed, btw Android 11 GSI's are still not stable as Android 10 GSI's.

I already did that and it did not leave me the same problem that happened to the first comment I did everything that the post says

Damn, same problem:
"size of image is larger than target device"

The ROM works fine, although I notice it's quite slow when opening apps and animations. The fingerprint reader also doesn't works sometimes like if it wasn't there but is fixed after a restart.

ok a repeat again....if you come from Stock Rom with latest Version called WAS-LX1A 8.0.0.398 C432 your System Partition is just 3,7Gb. You need to downgrade to 1 Version before called WAS-LX1A 8.0.0.394 C432 then the System Partition is 4,5Gb. Now you can flash this custom Rom.
For downgrade use dload method and

Software installa failed! I have a WAS-LX1A 8.0.0.396 C432

Question No such partition') (twrp installing error)

Premise: I performed all the operations by raspberry (I have driver problems on windows).
Today I decided to install the official twrp for my mi 11 lite 5g (renoire); and then install the MiuiMix android 12 rom in fastboot.
I download the img file from the official site, put it on a key, connect the fastboot phone to my raspberry (after giving it usb debugging permissions) and launch the command:
"fastboot devices" from the terminal.
"fastboot random number" ... ok phone recognized.
"fastboot flash recovery /home/meda/usb/twrp.img" ...
the recovery flash starts.

dude your wrong woth your command fastboot boot ****.img because mi 11x has a/b partitions you need to first boot it and then install via recovery ramdisk

Once I sent the command "fastboot boot twrp.img", and navigated to the twrp to get to the zip file that is needed to not have the recovery, I noticed that there is no trace of the internal memory (where I had just downloaded the aforementioned file ).
I thought "okay the download on a usb stick with usb-c connection and the meat from the" NO. HE DOESN'T EVEN SEE THE KEY.
I don't know how to do it, I can't get the twrp the phone memory can't see me

hello thanks for your answer, I followed the guide you had left me (the official twrp and it worked) (amazing how I did not see it alone). But although I managed to install the recovery correctly, I still have the problem that does not show me the files of the phone (eg download folder, DCMI etc...). Even by connecting a usb. does not detect it, keeps showing me 0Mb on each partition

What rom did you flash? Android 11 or 12?
It could solve, on android 11, complete the initial configuration after flashing the rom with data format. Also try disabling pin \ password \ fingerprint as a screen lock. Or check the mtp driver in the raspberry.
With Android 12 as far as I know this is normal because decryption does not work yet, and it is not fully supported.

It's been already 6 months using this device, the best device I ever had, but still struggling with China stuff, can't use WearOS devices, can't make backups in Google Drive, etc...
Up to now the only thing I know is to unlock the bootloader, so here we go:
First of all, ensure you are in Android 12, if not, you should downgrade version using OTA:

Once you are on Android 12, you can continue with the guide:
1. Support unlocked models
Realme GT2 Master Exploration Edition (RMX3551)
2. Matters needing attention
[BL unlocking must meet the following conditions]
It must be the True Self GT2 Master Explorer Edition purchased through official channels in mainland China
【BL Unlocking Instructions】(Important!!!)
1. After unlocking, it may have an unpredictable impact on the phone;
2. The third-party firmware may cause some functions of the mobile phone to fail to operate normally, for example, the camera function is unavailable, and may cause damage to the device;
3. It may cause leakage of private personal information on the mobile phone;
4. After unlocking, it will affect the system upgrade, and the user cannot receive the subsequent update version of realme UI;
5. After unlocking, the mobile phone status is equivalent to restoring the factory settings, and all user personal data will be cleared. It is recommended to back up the data in advance;

b. After downloading, extract it to the root directory of the c drive
c. Keyboard Win + R, enter CMD and then Enter
d. Enter cd.. and then Enter until C:\
e. Enter cd platform-tools and enter
f. Enter fastboot flashing unlock and Enter to continue step 8 of this post
Step 8, follow the prompts on the phone interface, press the volume up button to select unlock, and after a three-second countdown, the phone will enter the interface of the picture on the right.
Step 9, run the command: fastboot reboot on the computer adb, and the phone will automatically restart.
NOTE: This restart will erase all user data.
4. Lockback Tutorial
method one:
In the off state, press the volume down button and the power button at the same time to enter the BootLoader interface, connect to the computer, and enter: fastboot flashing lock
The phone will enter the lock interface, press the volume up button to select the lock bootloader, and after a three-second countdown, the phone will enter the interface of the picture on the right
Computer adb run command: fastboot reboot, the phone will automatically restart.
Method Two:
The mobile phone is turned on and connected to the computer, enter: adb reboot bootloader
The phone will enter the BootLoader interface
Enter: fastboot flashing lock

It's an OTA update for the Chinese version, it probably won't include Google services.

I can't download the downgrade file, could you re-upload in google drive or something ?
