google location history disabled? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

I've always used Google location history to look at where I have been for work, distance traveled etc. So was supprised when I checked my phone yesterday and saw that no location history had been recorded since I got it.
I checked the permissions turned off power saving for Google apps and Google maps that didn't solve it. I set to allow unlimited data for those apps that didn't solve it either. Then I realized in the app the option for location history is greyed out? It won't let you switch it on. Is this function disabled on Chinese phones? I'm using AL00
Anyone else notice this issue?

I didn't have this problem until recently. Not sure it's the software update or change of region

by the manufacturer.
Is there an alternate app for doing this?

I am having the same difficulties, anyone got any solutions??

Looks like all of you are new users of China version and has no clue bout it
Long time ago we been going through this.. You can buy any Huawei model as long it is china variant u will never have location history enabled that mean u won't be able to share live location with others.. Secondly you china version won't accept Google pay u won't be able to pay with phone...
Thurdly, will have no warranty in EU you would have to go to China get warranty claim..
China on purpose blocking location as they don't want to be tracked by usa via Google...

Google Now

So, from the lock screen a quick swipe up will launch Google Now. Anyone check it out yet?
I've been a pretty heavy Google products user for years, so there's a lot of info in there for me. I added my home and my work address, so it already shows me quite a bit of info when I start up.
1. Start it up and it's showing me today's weather - perfect, thank you =)
2. Showing me directions to work. Working from home, but my Gcal does say I should be in the office - thanks for that =)
3. Showing me something about a hospital nearby. Ok, not sure why but you're right, I haven't had a checkup in a while so I might be due.
4. Showing me a nearby restaurant, but as it's 2:30am - it's closed. Google Places knows what time they open, so hopefully they'll be smarter about stuff like that in the future.
How about your thoughts?

I like it. Pretty accurate and going to be a great selling point to battle siri at verizon when customers brag about siri.. (if the vzw EVER gets a ota for JB that is..) At least i can demo it on my phone until the vzw gets it.
Yea mine shows me nothing
Yes, I really like Google Now, it's great. But since one hour ago, mine doesn't update anymore, it only shows "no connection". Maybe Google switched it off?
---------- Post added at 11:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:22 AM ----------
I just found out that I can't even deactivate the cards in the app beause of a network error... But everything else including normal search works.
Really looks like Google switched it off...
Weird... working perfectly for me. Updating in real time and everything, all commands work too...
If you swipe up from the soft keys you can launch now. Same from the lock screen.
Launching is no problem, and some hours ago it worked perfectly. But now it can't connect to Google servers anymore... No matter if I use WiFi or 3G.
Maybe I'll try to wipe cache and dalvik-cache, it probably could help.
---------- Post added at 11:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 AM ----------
OK, that helped. First I just deleted the app-data, but it still didn't work. Then I wiped cache and dalvik cache within CWM-Recovery and now I could set Google Now up again.
For some reason Now isn't showing me anything else than the next calendar event. Not even weather. Is the whole service just in the USA? It's weird because if I search for "weather in my city" it shows it correctly as a card in search so why won't it show it automatically eventhough it's enabled?

Samsung find my phone not working?

Hi Folks,
So I'm posting in the Tmobile side since I picked up a Tmobile S4 even though I'm using it on AT&T to see if its a Tmobile thing, maybe some conflict from running on AT&T or just doesn't work at all...
I setup and have created/logged in with a Samsung account in the accounts pane and when I go online to try to find the phone I get two things. The first is the site says its not available in my region. And the second is following some details on their site about enabling it on the phone aren't working. It says add a Samsung account (done), go to settings, more, security then remote management (or remote control) then more steps but there is no remote management or remote control listed under settings.
Is this working for anyone at all?

Signing up and logging in to your tmobile, google or AT&T accounts are optional
and have nothing to do with how or if your phone will work.
You don't need to sign on to any of these three for your phone to work properly.
If your Tmobile M919 Galaxy S4 is NOT UNLOCKED it will not work on any network
except Tmobile.
It will not work with AT&T unless the phone is UNLOCKED.
Either way, the main thing I was trying to say is whatever your problem is it has
nothing to do with signing into tmoble or AT&T or gmail.
All three of those things are optional and have no effect on the phone working properly.
Awesome good to know. Now the only question is has anyone else gotten it to actually work if they have tried?

It's difficult to say if it will work or not since I have NO idea of what the problem is to start with.
All I know is that you have an Tmobile Galaxy S4 cell phone.
I don't even know if you ever tried a Tmobile sim card in it or whether the phone is unlocked and so on.
So I don't know how to be more helpful to you.

No, I just mean the feature in general on the phone. Does anyone have the find my phone function through Samsung working or at least have tried and can confirm that it does work for you, or that you too can't set it up?

You still are very unclear in what your really want to know, I still do not even know if your phone ever worked properly for you.
I still don't even know if your phone is UNLOCKED or not and I don't even know if you have a at&t sim or a tmobile sim card.
You never mention these things in any of your posts so how can anyone confirm anything you are asking to be confirmed?
If you use your phone on the Tmobile network you will have the option of free wifi calling which does not count against cellular minutes.
On the AT&T network there will be no option at all for wifi calling.
All the other features and options on the Galaxy S4 whether it's on the AT&T network or Tmobile network will be exactly the same.
You will not see or find any differences at all except for the wifi calling which I wrote about.
Anyway I am a bit busy, so I cannot help you anymore but I am sure there will be a lot of other people
here who can help you even more than I can.
Perhaps a mind reader will give you a hand if your lucky enough to find one.
The question is clear. Has anyone had this option ever work for them?
To be honest I am not sure how the option works but it maybe GPS related if Samsung is controlling it and not the carrier.

The question has nothing to do with whether the phone is network locked or not; or what carrier's sim card is installed. It has to do with whether a specific function in an app works or not for AT&T users with a TMO device. I have an unlocked TMO version on AT&T network, I'll try what you are talking about and get back with you. I'm reverting back to my stock backup to check. I can't seem to find the particular app you're using through Samsung apps and it doesn't appear to be present on the debloated stock ROM I'm using.

My experience so far is that I also cannot access the feature. You are correct in the fact that the "Remote Control" tab doesn't exist under Settings->More->Security. It should be below "Encrypt Device" but it isn't. The website findmymobile.samsung.com says that once you activate/register your Samsung account on the device, that menu will automatically be enabled; but from my experience (and yours as well apparently) that is definitely not the case.
I did a little research, and within a few minutes I was directed to a thread here on XDA from the SIII forums talking about this particular problem. Apparently, the carriers themselves have removed the ability to use Samsung's built-in mobile location features in preference of the carrier's own mobile location apps and services.
dumb! but I figured out that lookout can do it. going on 24 hours since I picked it up and dusting off my android cobwebs still for how I used to get by a year ago. Was trying to have to install some 3rd party app that I didn't know so tried the built in stuff with no luck but with lookout pre installed and I already know it I figure that should work just fine for me. Thanks folks for the feedback and conversation!

AH, so that's what the guy was looking for, I just could not make much sense of what he was asking after reading his posts.
There are several apps at the play store which have the same or similar capabilities.
Here is a link to one of them, it's called "find my phone" it's a free app which finds phones which have been stolen or lost etc.

Yeah, but if it's supposed to be provided by the manufacturer it would stand to reason that it would be available to everyone who bought the device. Apparently though, our carriers tend to believe their own software is far superior to that of those who manufactured the device... I personally don't even use that stuff as I never turn GPS on in the first place; so in the event that my phone is stolen or lost, that kind of software won't do me any good to begin with.

Watch says no Google play services!

When on wifi, and I resync apps I get this message on the face "Get Google play services.Android wear wont run without Google play services, which are missing from your phone.
Then I have the option, if I swipe left,to open on phone, then ot wont open to anything..... I have Google play services, and the lates version, and the watch operates fine, accept I never get Google now cards on the watch. Ive factory reset it several times for other issues, and each time I get this message until the watch syncs with the phone, then ot goes away.
Im in Thailand and wondering if that has anything to do with it.
Exactly the same happened to me in Germany. So no, it's not specific to Thailand.

Exactly,I just swipe right then it's gone, until either I restart the watch or resync the apps, then it comes on again. IDK.......
It seems like this may be an issue with the newest update for Android Wear. I have been holding off on installing the newest update because there have been a lot of complaints in the play store about this type of issue. Hopefully, Google fixes this in the next AW update.

I bought the watch off amazon, not sure, but I think the watch came from China directly,or Korea. It got here in less than 5 days with standard shipping,so I'm pretty sure it did not come from the US.
I'm in Bangkok.
However the no Google services error has stopped showing up on the watch, and the watch operates perfectly now.

Google Pay working?

Hello friends.
Is anyone else having trouble getting Google Pay to work? Let me know your experience.
For me, I got it to work on my old phone, but my 20X gives me an error when adding a card. I have the China version.
I managed to add 2 cards on my older phone. Uninstall and reinstall Google pay on my new phone. The cards show up now which is good!
I haven't tried it in a store to test that it works yet, but I'll let you know in a few days
Global rom should work, China rom will not, I have a feeling the framework in the china rom prevents this. Google and china are in a competition with regards to this.
I'm going to tinker with my phone and see what happens. I managed to get the card added, just need to test it out in a store...
It works on my older Chinese Mate 9, so I am hopeful.
I'll attach a screenshot.
I've managed to set up 2 accounts. Haven't tested in store yet

Is yours the China Version or the Global? If you got the cards added onto the China version then I'd like to know how, as I tried and it added the cards to Google Pay, but not accessible on the phone, the phone said it couldn't add it at this time but that I could pay on other websites through google, so I never got it to show on the phone the cards.
Mine work. But I'm in Asia.

Yes, mine is the China 8/256 version.
I bypassed the problem with Google Pay by loading it on my old phone (Chinese Mate 9) and managed to add 2 cards on it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google Pay on my Mate 20 X and logged in. My cards loaded from my account without any problem.
Will do some more tests tomorrow. :victory:

Its not a victory until it works in the real world when you use the nfc to pay, then and ONLY then can you claim victory Cause I have a us phone that I could do this to as well and make it show up and transfer hopefully, but using it is the key

Mine doesnt have wallet, I uninstalled that app, but mine asks to set it up, and even in google pay when it opens says that the payments have to be resubmitted for security.
But once thing I realized is once the phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted G Pay will stop working anyhow.

Mine doesnt have wallet, I uninstalled that app, but mine asks to set it up, and even in google pay when it opens says that the payments have to be resubmitted for security.
But once thing I realized is once the phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted G Pay will stop working anyhow.

well when I add GPay to my HN8 just to see what would happen, it came back telling me the phone isnt secure and the phone is bootloader unlocked.
But thats a different story.
Hey guys,
Its not working for me, despite having the cards added. At the grocery store, it prompted to set up contactless payments, but following the prompt it just went back to the homescreen with no further instructions. Weird.
Anyways I'm going to keep tinkering with it and I'll let you know if I figure anything out.
I am using AL00.
My PayPal account is already connected but i can't activate contactless pay do you know a solution.
I tried to uninstall G Pay and reinstall and i removed PayPal and set it up again.

Suspicious Activity - Huawei Mate 20 X

Hi,
I have noticed suspicious activity on my google account which shows the device is being used in somewhere in Europe. I changed my password and did a factory wipe on the phone but I still see same behavior on this device being simultaneously being used in Canada and Europe.
Has anyone noticed such behavior from the device and what's your advice on to fix/track the issue?
Thanks

No problems with mine but I do have two step verification enabled with google - not known if that makes any difference.
I also have the two step verification enabled and didn't get notified by google that my phone was being used in Europe as the same time it was being used in Canada.
I did change my google account passwords but still the same issue.
Post which retailers you got them from if you are having this issue. There may be a common theme ....
Got it from ngp_store_usa from Ebay ebay.ca/usr/ngp_store_usa

I think you have your answer. It pays to do a bit of due diligence before buying:
Fairly young account. 97.4% feedback rating which is actually really low.

Have you spoken to them about this? They are *supposed* to be reputable.
Mine was also from Splendor, but I have checked my google connected devices and where they are connected from and have 2 step verification on. My phone is not mysteriously connected elsewhere. I would start looking at 3rd party apps that you guys might have installed.

I have 2nd step verification enabled as well and removed all 3rd party application which can access my Google account. I haven't noticed anything suspicious recently but will continue to monitor.
Thanks

wipe the phone mught not be enough, if somehow the seller unlocked, flashed it, and lock the bootloader, the only way to get it clean is doing the same thing: unlocking bootloader and flashing the factory image. that's what i would do, and that's what i always end up doing to root the phone
