I just got an S9 and have not been able to get it to apply all of the available updates. When I check for updates, it says that I have the latest one already. I tried the Smart Switch software and that says I am also up to date. I cleared the cache partition and then set the date to one day ahead and checked for updates. It took a few minutes checking but then it finished and said I was up to date.
My previous phone was an S8 and that phone had issues updating too. I had to go to ubreakifix to have them update the phone when Android 8 became available. After that update, my S8 never got an OTA again.
I fear that this S9 is having the same problem. I even activated the new S9 with a new sim card. I also verified that AT&T sees that I have an S9.
Anyone know what is going on? Anything else I can do to get it to update? I am currently on the previous version with baseband G960USQS3ARG8.

If you just got it, give it a week or so.
There was an S9+ that was added on another line within my account at the same time and it got all the updates right away. Hopefully time will fix mine but right now I doubt it.

Did you ever flash this to U1 Firmware? I had a similar issue when i decided to go back to U firmware. Ended up having to to revert back to an old version of U and then proceed with side loading updates from firmware science until the BR firmware (side note, the firmware i found on here to revert back to stock U did not have a direct upgrade path on Firmware science) then AT&T started updating as normal.
I have not flashed anything. This is new out of the box.

I would take it back to AT&T.
My previous phone did the same thing which is odd. I can't see why two consecutive new phones would not update for me. Is there a way I can download the update from AT&T and sideload it without having to reinstall everything?

I applied the next update from there and while it updated, it wiped my phone. now to spend a few hours again resetting everything up. i thought this wasn't supposed to wipe my phone?
Don't bother setting up your phone until you're all caught up with updates. I learned that the hard way. Just skip all the setup stuff after connecting to WiFi, then check for updates. Go back to the firmware science site if there are none available. I'm on 3BRJ6 with a November 1st security patch. This one was an OTA update after manually installing 3 or 4 from the firmware science site.
P.S. Under settings-about phone-software information do you show ATT/ATT/ATT at the bottom of the Service Provider SW ver.?

The problem with it resetting my phone is that if still continue to not receive ota updates directly, I'll never update again since I wouldn't want to reset again. As for the fw, I do see Att/att/att.
I updated up to the October security patch to see if it would offer the Nov security patch and my phone still won't offer ota updates.

Does your phone show the blue AT&T logo during boot up? Does it have all the AT&T bloatware?
Yup, it's an Att branded phone. I bought from Best buy. Came in Att box, has all the bloatware too.

Then I go back to my initial recommendation that you return it. I would also consider asking AT&T if there is some way to wipe your account data clean before activating a new phone and make sure you get a new sim card.

Hey, just bought brand new 5x and I'm still on 6.0 with oct 1sr 2015 security patch. When I go to system updates it says I'm up to date. Am not getting OTA update automatically. Im on Telenor in Serbia. Should I wait or do I have to root and flash the latest update manually?
Btw, looove the handset and OS is lagfree, no issues, but still wonder why I'm not getting the latest update. No root, LB, brand new OTB device.

How do I update manually? Any recommended guides? I dont feel the need to flash a custom rom, I like what google is doing with android as is for now. Just want the lates and greatest, thats why I bought a nexus.
Also would like to know the reason why I am I not getting updates automatucally. I have the international H791 model. Firmware version MDA89E. Its two OTAs outdated.
Quick thought: Shut down, remove SIM, Start the device, Connect to Wifi, Check for updates.
Just unboxed a brand new 5X 10 minutes ago and have the exact same problem...
Tried to reboot and added a Google account, charged the battery to 100% but the thing still won't find a new system version...

Tried that too. I activated the device without the SIM and used it that way yesterday, inserted it just today.
Than I guess you can't do anything else unless you unlock the bootloader. At this point you can fastboot \system \boot \radio \vendor from the latest factory image or you can sideload ota zip through stock recovey.
I am having the same issue, my new nexus 5x is on 6.0 MDB08L, securiry patch level: November 1, 2015.
When I check for updates it says that my device is up to date...
The OTA will show up eventually. Or update manually.
Same thing for me in Canada. I just ended up enrolling in the Android Beta to get N preview.
Issue solved!
I got a ton of OTAs overnight while device was charging. I think it was 5 OTAs one by one that had to be installed separately, now I am on the latest April security patch and loving my nexus even more. No noticable performance difference, smooth and snappy and now up to date. So I guess updates will come you just have to be patient so google can activate them for your device. In my case it was 2 days since activation.

And then what?
how do you know it's gonna work? I would think OS updates would have been taken care outside of standard packages.
You can go to settings and set to manual updates. It won't "disable but it won't update unless you tell it to

Well on my first note mine was set to manual and it pushed the update through regardless a few hours after the notification arrived. IMO anybody able to root has nothing to lose by rooting if they're intending to keep it at this point.
Package disabler. Disable System update SDM's. Don't touch anything to do with Knox though.
Disable these:
Security policy updates
Software update
System update 1
System update 2
I've had those frozen on both my original Note 7 and my replacement Note 7 and get no OTA's at all. Don't think they can push them to you with these disabled.
Just bought the Package Disable Pro+ Premium.
Strange.
Have disabled the "Security Policy updates" and "Software update", BUT my replaced Note7 does not have the 2 System Updates. processes.
Anyone knows what should I do?
Also I have the GearVR, and have not connected it to my handset after they push down the patch to disable the use with Note7.
Anyone knows which process to disable too, so that I can continue using the GearVR?
Pls help... Thanks!

I think you have to edit the build-prop (which means you need to be rooted) to get the Gear VR to work.
As far as the 2 system sdm updates - they are on both my Note 7's, but then I haven't ever taken an OTA or any update as I disabled all of that first thing I got the phones (one was my OG N7, the other the replacement N7). So I can't help you if you have already taken an update, but those system SDMs should be there unless they removed them in an update somehow, which I doubt.

Ya, after I received the replacement on 16/9/16 (Singapore), I received an OTA update within the next couple of days that give the green battery.
That is the only update I received.
If it helps, my version is 6.0.1,
Baseband: N960FXXU2BPI5
Build number: MMB29K.N930FXXU2BPI9
So strange...
Does that mean the only choice I have is to root the phone?
(I haven't rooted before)
What is the best "stock" rooted package now?
I'm fine with the default Samsung apps generally, and does not need to have much default functions disabled.

This is the first Android phone I have not rooted. Ever. So honestly, I cannot guide you on the root process, as I never did it on either of my Note 7's. I was eventually going to root, but then the recalls hit and I figured there was no point since I will be giving it up soon. But if you took the green battery update, my understanding is that you cannot root and cannot go back to the previous firmware. I do not know if the update you took got rid of the two system update SDM's, someone else will have to help you with that. I would bet that you can still prevent further OTA's with package disabler pro - however, I do not know that for sure. Hopefully others will see this thread and these posts and chime in with info that clears this up for you.
I rooted my replacement note 7 (with green battery update) a few days ago with no problem in anticipation of a crippling update pushed by Samsung: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/development/recovery-official-twrp-galaxy-note-7-t3446047. But by doing so you trigger knox and lose access to secure folder and shealth. I solved the shealth problem by disabling encryption on my device with Hydra Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/development/kernel-hydrakernel-v1-1-t3452433 while keeping stock ROM. I am considering changing to HydraRom http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/development/rom-hydra-rom-v1-0-t3447611 just in case.
Hope this helped!
Considering the fact that the phone automatically runs an update at its first boot is there a way to easily shield the device from the mobile network (so that it won't update)?

My replacement N7 DL'd the update first thing. I did remove the sim and also shut off WIFI, but it had already DL'd the update. But I did not let it install the update. I rebooted and skipped activating the phone. I didn't do any of the first boot setup stuff - skipped all of that, then went to the play store, logged in with my gmail and first thing I installed as package disabler pro. I immediately disabled all the System updates (4 packages). After that I quit getting the notice to install the already DL'd update. Once you disable the System update SDM's, you can't even get into the phone update OTA selection in settings, it kicks you right out. So even though it had DL'd the update, I was able to prevent it from installing.
I do think the phone is trying to look for an update constantly now though. When I look at my GSM battery monitor, system updates is right near the top of what android system is using all the time. I still have excellent battery life, but I think disabling OTA system updates will make the phone constantly try to look for updates that it simply can't run because the SDM's are disabled. I can live with that as gimping the phone with a crappy OTA that limits the battery or might add other possible things I didn't want was the main goal. Phone runs great and battery life is great. That's all I need.
I have a ATT branded Moto Z2 with a Cricket SIM. I got the phone in late november, and it came with Android 7.1.1 with the June 1 SPL. I know that ATT has released several updates, the latest in December with the November 1st SPL,
but everytime I check for updates it says that my phone is up-to-date.
So far I tried to check for updates after a factory reset, and also tried to do an OTA update with an old ATT SIM in it. Nothing seems to be working.
I have posted on the lenovo support page but so far I have not got any answer. I am not the guy that has to have the latest software running, but the updates fixed the BlueBorne security hole...
Othat than using a Cricket SIM, the phone is stock, not rooted.
has anybody encountered the same problem? Thank you
So I have two Tmobile versions of this phone. one rooted/unlocked, one not. I am also having a problem with receiving OTA. Mine stock device is on an August Security patch and there have been two released patches since then. I just got off the phone with both motorola and tmobile and they are both useless. I explained over and over that i wasn't calling about the oreo release, that i was calling about ANY updates and they couldn't get that through their head. Further, tmobile states they haven't released an 8.0 ota which we all know is false since several people on this forum have received it.... very frustrating. I may have to unlock my stock device if I ever want an actual update.

What OTA for Tmobile? Mine has NCX26. 7 as stated in Tmobile support site, I do know that OCX oreo release is suppose to be live but support site doesn't show it andy phone hasn't gotten it.
Found a way to get it to download updates.
So, after wasting my time with Motorola and ATT so-called "technical support", I decided to try something: I rebooted the phone in recovery mode (VOlume down + Power button) and put it in recovery mode. Rebooted from recovery mode, and bingo, it downloaded the next update (September SPL). It now shows "background installation..." in progress. Hopefully this is going to be the solution.
I did the update manually using the file nash_opx 27.109-34_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC. Xml. zip and it worked perfectly.

I think I may have found the right recipe. The trick is to check for updates while NOT on WiFi. So move away from WiFi coverage, but still within Cell coverage, with Data on. Check for updates. It will say that an update is available and will be download when within WiFi range. Move back to where you have WiFi, and bingo, it will start downloading. I did it twice yesterday afternoon, once to go from the Sept to the Oct SPL, and then from the Oct SPL to the Nov SPL, which is the last available update according to the ATT page. All of this with my Cricket SIM. WHy this works is beyond my pay grade to figure out. I will eagerly wait for the next update to be posted to see if this trick works consistently. Again,
this seems to work with my ATT branded phone.
My ATT Z2 force, starting from last evening (1/24/2018), kept getting security update, from September, 2017. Then this morning, October 2017 and November 2017. Does this mean we are going to get Oreo update soon ?

There are issues with calling and sms on the T-Mobile variant. The update has been pulled while they sort out the issues.
Well that makes sense why I'm not seeing it then.
I am still not able to get the AT&T update past June. I tried the reboot into recovery and nothing. Is there a way to manually install the update from an SD card which would allow for OTA updates in the future?

Good. On my account we got 2 of them for Christmas. A few days after Christmas, one of them updated to Oreo. At this point, the Galaxy S7 Edge on our account could not hear the Z2 Force. Went through everything with T-Mobile support including network settings reset, factory resetting both the Samsung and Motorola phones. Didn't fix it. Meanwhile, the Z2 Force that was still on Nougat was fine. A few days later, it also updated to Oreo, and now neither Z2 Force can be heard on the Samsung. I hope they get this mess cleaned up soon since it's been a month.
It seems to be only between those two phones. Until the next update/patch is released, the workaround is to disable VoLTE in call settings on the z2.
Got AT&T update to 8.0.0 this morning.
I received notice of the Tmobile Oreo update, downloaded it, but cannot install it. It only says something went wrong and didn't install the update. I have the bootloader unlocked and Magisk installed. I followed the instructions for Magisk dual partition updates. I uninstalled Magisk using Restore Images and did not reboot. I went to System Updates and downloaded the update again. It never went to Security Update Installing, step 1. I am on Magisk v 16.0 which passes the SafetyNet check, ctsProfile: true and basicIntegity: true. At this point, should I completely uninstall Magisk, flash the OreoFlashAll.zip or the NASH_TMO_C_OCX27.109-36_subsidy-TMO-regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip? Or something different?

Hello,
I apologize if this has already been discussed. I searched the forums, but am having no luck. I have the u1 unlocked s9. I'm trying to flash it to have att firmware so I can use wifi calling. I used the samfirm app and was able to get the firmware that I thought I needed, but after flashing, I have no carrier apps or wifi calling. I have an s7 with wifi calling if I need to put the sim back in that for anything. If anyone can direct me on what files I need, I would appreciate it. I read somewhere that I just need the userdata file. I tried that with odin, but it fails to flash with fused 3 binary 1 error. The firmware on sammobile was slightly different from the samfirm app, but I couldn't get it without a premium account. G960U1UES3ARJ6 is my current baseband.
Thanks!

Have you gotten the October update? I fought with AT&T about wifi calling for months about this. They claimed they enabled it after I called but it never showed up in the phone app settings. They finally said it was because the phone was unlocked. When I received the October 1 update, it showed up in my settings. My wife has a Galaxy J7 and it showed up on her phone also after the update. I see some saying that it never showed though so make sure you have the latest Odin.

Yes. My phone says security patch level is November 1st. Att said I would not get it because my phone was an unlocked model. I get that, but from what I've read, I can flash the firmware on it to basically have the carrier firmware as if it was bought from Att. I dont know what files to get though. Did you use Odin for flashing it?

Yes. My phone says security patch level is November 1st. Att said I would not get it because my phone was an unlocked model. I get that, but from what I've read, I can flash the firmware on it to basically have the carrier firmware as if it was bought from Att. I dont know what files to get though. Did you use Odin for flashing it?

No, mine was the normal ota update. Don't expect to get any help from AT&T on this. They told me it wouldn't work on my unlocked phone yet now it does. I expect it to go away at any moment though.
I converted my unlocked US Note 10+ to T-Mobile. I am not receiving any OTA updates. My phone says that I am on the current software with December 1st Security patch.(the package I flashed in Odin) SL8 There is a January update available SLB but my phone doesn't see it. I know I can just manually flash it but it's kind of inconvenient. Anyone else able to pull updates after converting? In the T-Mobile app my device shows as "Unknown device" so I'm not sure if I should go back to the unlocked US firmware or try to figure if I goofed along the way. Thanks for any help.

Did you use the non home csc when (and do the factory data reset after successfully) flashing the phone with T-Mobile firmware?
If you didn't then that can cause the issue your having with OTA.
Yeah I did that. I'll back up my data and flash the old update, factory reset, and then see if it'll pull the latest update. Thanks. I've read where a couple of people are having issues with ota updating
I brought my Sprint Note 9 to TM. I didn't flash anything, but couldn't get OTA updates. I know I could have flashed TM, but I was lazy. I called my TM experts. They called Samsung. Samsung looked up to see where the nearest Samsung tech was. It was at a Best Buy. She was in the Geek Squad area. She evidently flashed the TM firmware. After that I was able to get the TM OTAs. There was no charge for this. I happily upgraded to the 10+ 5G when TM got it. I love it! It also came with Android 10 on it.

So I flashed the old firmware, used the non csc file, hard reset and I still can't pull an ota. Not sure what's wrong.

This is normal since you brought your own device and didn't purchase it from T-Mobile.

Your not doing something right or have skipped/missed a step..
When flashing the t-mobile firmware do so in it's entirety. Be sure to use the userdata as well.
The flashing process is pretty easy and rather straight forward, but as a refresher follow the instructions at the bottom of this post

That may be the issue. The tutorial I used said not to flash the userdata. So when I do this again, I should flash the Tmobile userdata along with it.
