According to Sammmobile.com , Samsung has finally released the Galaxy A8 (2018) Oreo update, bringing an end to months of waiting for owners of the company’s latest premium mid-range phones. The Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are currently being updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in Russia. The rollout seems to have started over the weekend, and since it’s already mentioned on Samsung’s official website that details software updates, it should be available for most (if not all) users in Russia at this point.
Samsung’s official changelog suggests it’s an update similar to the one received by devices released before the Galaxy S9. Oddly, Dolby Atmos support isn’t mentioned, despite the devices’ user manual saying it’s included. That could possibly be because the A8 and A8+ only get Dolby Atmos for use over wired and Bluetooth audio, similar to devices like the Galaxy J6 and the Galaxy A6. The update also brings support for VoLTE on both SIM slots, which was recently made available for the Galaxy S9 as well. It’s unclear what security patch is included, but since the May security patch has already been out for these devices, it’s possible Oreo bundles the June patch. The July 2018 security patch is included in the update. The build numbers are A530FXXU2BRG1 and A730FXXU2BRG1.
Our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles is the best way to get details on some of the major new features and changes that Oreo brings to Samsung devices (and this official Samsung infographic is also something you should take a look at). To see if Oreo is available for your Galaxy A8 (2018) or A8+ (2018), open the Settings app on your device, tap Software update, then tap Download updates manually. The update is likely to take a few days to start rolling out in other markets; it could also be a few weeks, depending on how quickly Samsung expands the rollout.
The Russian Firmware is avaliable on Sammobile.com on the link below :
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a8-plus/SM-A730F/SER/download/A730FXXU2BRG1/224366/
My question is ... will this firmware work on non Russian devices ?
It will.

It won't in any official state and has had 2 major updates since it's release in February 2017 like the A3 and A5 2017. It, like the other devices, is not eligible as it has gone through it's update cycle as per Samsung update policy.
Never.

As @moozer mentioned it already (but I have to add something) only the international A7 2017 devices (SM-A720F) won't get official pie as it passed the 2 major update schedule. There is still hope at least for the korean variant (SM-A720S). Samsung shipped SM-A720F with Marshmallow to our markets but SM-A720S were shipped with Nougat out-of-the-box in korea, that means SM-A720S only got 1 major update and maybe get a second one with android pie.
You can easly identify or compare it in the firmware releases:
A - android version out-of-the-box
B - 1st major update
C - 2nd major update
for example:
SM-A720F:
A720FXXU2AQG5 - Marshmallow
A720FXXU3BRB8 - Nougat
A720FXXU4CRG2 - Oreo
SM-A720S:
A720SKSU2ARB1 - Nougat
A720SKSU3BRK1 - Oreo
A720SKSU4CXXXX - Pie ??

So if they release pie for the 720s, then how much more work would need to be done for the 720f? If they build pie for one, they might as well build it for the other as they are similar.
Seems I read somewhere about sm-a720? getting pie, but don't quote me on it. It would make sense according to your post.

yes you're right both variants are very similar and it won't take much time for samsung to build pie for A720F too but this doesn't change the fact about A720F's major updates. We all know samsungs marketing: 2 major updates then security patches only.
I remember a scenario which really happened to S5 Neo. Samsung released in 2015 the Galaxy S5 Neo as SM-G903F, SM-G903M and SM-G903W. All were shipped with Lollipop 5.1.1. Also all got a major update to Marshmallow. However, when samsung started to release Nougat only the SM-G903W (Canadian) variant got it while the international varaints never got an official update to Nougat. And I can imagine a similar scenario might happen to A7 2017: SM-A720S will get Pie while SM-A720F won't.
It won't, because Samsung Screwed us all out of an update by releasing the phone on Marshmallow, when Nougat was long since available.
Well Samsung politics is under the moto "buy new phone"
Fook that
On geek bench it was discovered running android pie.But it is not released yet.

Ignore it, it's not by Samsung. Probably some A7 2017 user with Lineage 16 or any other AOSP pie rom did run this geekbench test

Even the official lineageos has bugs.
After scattering through a tonne of content on the internet and flashing multiple ROMs on my moto z2 play, I found AOSP extended GSI of android PIE and I am using it right now as my daily driver. It works 9/10 Anyone can daily drive it as long as you are not concerned about passing SafetyNet. However, while I was digging for some ROM that would officially support my z2 play(albus), I noticed one thing that Motorola Moto G5 Plus has a lot of support amongst custom roms. I may be missing some points cause I haven't been into flashing roms since some years now and I recently came back to the whole scene but is there a way that I can run a Custom rom (like Evolution X) on my albus using the build meant for Motorola Moto G5 Plus? Both of these phones have extremely similar specs and dimensions. z2 play was launched on 2017 June and Motorola Moto G5 Plus was launched on 2017 Feb.

According to this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/how-to/updated-guide-project-treble-gsi-t4063193
you can flash ANY GSI into the Z2 Play as long as they met these requirements:
1. Rom arch is arm64
2. Rom partition scheme is aonly
Most custom roms do not specify which partition scheme uses, in this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2...droid-q-gsi-moto-z2-play-albus-t4066945/page2 the user @saibharath1319 mentions he succesfully installed Pixel Experience Plus Android 10 GSI with KVT 2.4 "without any major issues besides ambient display not working.

What he is asking and what your telling mate?? even i was searching for the same question moto g5 plus has tremendous support and both the devices are totally identical ? can someone give it a try?
Bro do you even read? The short answer is no, you can't simply flash sanders ROMs or any other, to albus. Unless they are GSI's.
If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about. Then google it.
If you are coming from Stock Pie Update make sure you use the modem file (non-HLOS.bin) from Stock Oreo because the modem from Stock Pie has audio issues with custom ROMs.
Hello community,
I would like to downgrade my Galaxy Note 8 from android 9 to android 8 because I like the Samsung Experience UI better.
Is there any way to go back from pie?
Now it is known that from a certain bootloader version no more downgrades are possible.
Here is the current BL Version from it: N950FXXUDDTH1
Thanks for your help
This is the forum for the Samsung 8" tablet (approx. 2014), not the phone. The tablet is stuck with Android 4.4 from Samsung and 7.1 (Nougat) from LineageOS. Neither Oreo nor Pie are to be had here.
