Dual-layer cases: Help me choose

Trying to decide between the following dual layer cases (gel case inside hard shell):

They are very similar. Does anyone have experience with either of these? I have small hands, so I don't want to drop my brand new GSIII and break it!

Grab an otterbox commuter. It's protect your phone well and protect your phone from dust too as it has the cover caps. It's only add a little bit bulk..^^

It gets better with time.

I have the Incipio in the Verizon blue. It's fine, but I'll be ordering the OB Defender. Every time I'm on a crowded sidewalk or the train platform, all I think about is someone walking into me causing my phone to drop onto concrete... Chills. Lol

Ordered me an otterbox commuter , Sgp neo hybrid , and Sgp ultra crystal . What is the best screen protector guys ? I been thinking trying to research it but it's confusing . I wanted one to cover the full screen but bought thru phone already so I just got the Sgp ultra clear for now

I currently have a Zagg HD on mine, so far so good. Smooth like glass, unlike their "standard" one which has a plastic feel. Either will work. Have not tried the screen part since I have the Zagg, but I picked up the ArmorShield (supposed to be Zagg eqiv.) and the shield for the rest of the phone is good. Got a good deal on an otterbox so thats going on as well when I get it.

Apparently only adds 2.2mm to each side so 4.4mm overall which isn't too bad IMO

Bro, for seidio active case, the soft silicone part will get loose after few week of using especially the top & bottom part. For case-mate tough, my brother using casemate tough case, drop once from 3 feet high, the hard shell break. :crying:
Conclusion, grab a Commuter or Ballistic SG and you can't go wrong with both of these premium case. :good:

I have casemate and OB. Both are great. Just switched back to OB today...its better than the casemate. Close but I will stick.with the OB.

I have the Acase. Originally, I was going to get the speck dual layer case, but I looked at the review from the acase at amazon and it seems better. I also looked at the retail price and its "retail value" seems more, so that's one reason why I got it. So far, great case. Protects both back and side, and front when placing down on a flat table. One time, I accidentally bumped the cellphone on a side of the table and it grazed the case, but no damage to the phone. Glad I have acase on.
From what I saw, the Incipio is pretty similar, so it wouldn't hurt if you get that or the Acase. Just know that the price point is about the same on Amazon, but the retail value is different; The acase is about 40 and the incipio is about 30. I usually choose the higher price, believing that it is the better quality. But that is my bias.

The otterbox commuter or defender are great cases. I have no problems with the defender buttons, the commuter got better after about a week but I wanted the holster the defender came with. I did however take off the screen protector the defender came with. I also tried the Acase like you show above and it is ok but no where near as protective as the otterbox. Oh and the Otterbox Defender is on Amazon for about 29.00.

Trident Kraken has yet to fail me in terms of protection. I drop and toss my phone to demonstrate it for people everyday. Plus they have quite a few different color options.
Only thing that has failed was the belt clip broke. But contacted customer service and I had a new one in 4 days.

Go with the Acase. You can't beat the price and the case is great! Nothing against the other cases, but this case is just as good if not better. Hell, you could get two for the price of some of the other ones. Here's my review when I first made purchased it:

It's still my all around favorite case. You really can't go wrong with this case.
Currently not being productive on my S3.

UAG case for me, I don't have a screen protector but I did have a zagg hd and it was just terrible (actually went through two if them with the same issues). I will be getting a specter glass protector and I'm hoping it will be compatible with my case

Hated my Otterbox Commuter... didn't look good whatsoever, and the button mashing problem was enough to make me return it after two days of use (I know it "gets better" after use, but when you pay any amount of money, it should work out of the box).
Went to the Speck Candyshell and I love it (its dual layer as well).

The kraken falls apart when dropped.

By design. Impact hits and the outer hard shell breaks apart to absorb most of the impact. Then the case can tumble on the ground with the polycarbonate case with very light impact.

They still haven't been delivered yet. They didn't ship until two days ago and I'm pretty sure they are coming from overseas so it might be a bit. I'll definitely post my impressions once I have them in hand.

I ordered this case also. I already have the Griffin reveal now so I'm not sure how this case will compare.

Can anyone clarify if the back of this case is ridged? specifically where the back middle transitions to that alternate black color before it turns into the bezel. I have a feeling that it's just a glossy border, but the pictures don't dhow enough detail to tell.

This case is the closest I think i'll be able to get to an Urban Armor Gear case. Here's to hoping it's a quality case.

Just got my cases in finally, after 3 weeks. Much better quality than I was expecting, and definitely cool looking. A couple complaints though. One is that it's a major PITA to put on and take off. I hate feeling like I'm going to break my phone every time I take the case off (I'm looking at you, Poetic Atmosphere!). My other complaint, and this is a big one, is that it has some seriously wicked edges that make the phone a pretty uncomfortable to hold. For a phone that feels so nice in the hand, it's a shame to have a case on it that essentially kills that comfort altogether. I also have the Griffin Reveal which is a very similar design- not as cool looking as the Supcase but much more comfortable to hold. It's edges are a lot smoother and the material around the sides of the phone is a lot softer. The reveal is *almost* just as comfortable to hold as the naked phone, as it follows the contours of the phone very closely. The Supcase on the other hand focuses more on styling at the cost of those comfortable contours. If you want a case like this, ie. soft bumper around edges but clear plastic back, I'd recommend the Reveal over the Supcase. My $.02.
Edit: The Supcase has the dimple whereas the Reveal does not. I know somebody is bound to ask that question.

Yep, that's how they shipped it to me. I'm pretty sure it ships out of Memphis, Tenn. DHL handles the interstate travels and then transfers it to USPS for the final delivery. No clue why they use DHL, they must have a contract/agreement with them. Some of the colors are available through Prime from the same seller so it pretty much has to be within the US.

I got the Supcase. It took a while to get but it's a nice case. I mostly use it for work since it's so sturdy. I also like the Griffen Reveal better, it fits well and is not as bulky. The Reveal has a completly clear back were as this Supcase is kind of a cloudy back.

Does anyone know if where the clear plastic meets the glossy is flat? If somebody had a picture at a good angle would be awesome!

Not sure which case should I get, please help!

I'm looking for a case that costs ~10-~20 EUR (amazon.de), is good in drop protection (more specifically, the corners, the camera lens and the screen) and just how comfortable it is, would you recommend it and so on.
I also have seen zedomax's CruzerLite Nexus 5 drop test. Do the cases (Androidified A2 like in the video or Bugdroid Circuit) protect as well as in the video (the drop tests aren't fake, right?)?
How's the Spigen Slim Armor, too? I heard it protects well, but after seeing a G2 drop test, it seems to perform not really well in a frontal test. What do you think?
So, please suggest me some. But I NEED AND REQUIRE good drop protection (front and back) and not adding too much bulk making it uncomfortable to use. Of course, good a price too.

How do they do with drop protection?

I recommend cruzerlite TPU cases.

I haven't dropped my phone yet *knock on wood* but it believe its the most protective while still being slim. Has reinforced edges . dual layer and has a lip to lay on the screen. Also the camera is protected pretty well.

I'm using the rinke fusion crystal clear and while it adds more bulk than I personally like its not to bad. It survived a fall off the top of a 6ft ladder actual height was probably 7ft as I was standing on the top rung and dropped it from my pocket on to a wood floor, No damage what so ever. I'm on my second nexus already the first slid off my couch at about 1.5ft and completely shattered the screen.

I have the Neo Hybrid and it isn't nearly as good as a tough case or Seidio cases I have had. Not sure I would recommend it, nothing particularly wrong with it but it lacks the cushioning of a touch case, dilex, commuter, etc which in my experience is a major help in drops. It also lacks their better grip and feel in hand. Best thing that can be said for it is that it doesn't look cheap and it will keep the phone from getting scratched. I had a toughcase on my sgs 2, 3, and 4 and obviously between the phones over the course of years there were a number of drops but never a break. Out of those the otterbox boys claim there will be no commuter for the N5, casemate is still mum but does have one case for it coming soon and there may be hope for the tough case and seidio is just now getting there cases on the market. Myself I have a dilex coming Monday which should prove better than the Neo I have now and if Casemate gets the toughcase out I'll buy that in a heartbeat. Easily the best I have ever owned and I have been through a number of cases looking for a better mouse trap over the years. Otterbox quality seems to have gone down over the last few years and their commuter is bested by the tough case anyways making them a poor choice even if they did make one. Seidio I haven't had in a few years so for me the jury is out on them till I try the one I have coming now. Previous cases I had with them were good however.
None of these would help you though if you want screen protection. The only real way to do that is a pouch or a wallet style. Those have their own issues.. The pouch is great when the phone is in it but does nothing when its not and you tend to drop the phone when you're using it, not when its in its pouch in your pocket. Also its another thing in between you and answering a call. Wallets have the advantage of being on the phone when it falls but these can be among the thickest of the cases and some people hate having to fold the flap over to use the phone. I'm one of those, the protection is great but I find them too annoying in use. This is something you have to try for yourself to see where you stand.
In the end no case is perfect, each style has its compromise and you are going to have to choose which ones you want to make personally because you cant have it all in one case.

I got two for mine, one from PDAir, which is a belt/clip case, and one from tuff as nuts, which is a belt case. The tuff as nuts is great for me because you actually slip it onto the belt - no way it can come off.
Both are leather and excellent quality.

I switch my cases quite a bit. the best for me imo are the Nillkin brand from china. they look very chic and nice. I have the white leather with front screen protector. I had dropped a few of my phones and damaged the screens due to no front protection. Yeah any case will protect majority of the phone, but not the most important part...the screen. ever since I started using thin hybrid covers, never had a broke screen again. The cover I have is thin without the bulk and yet very nice. I get compliments and others want the same for their model phones. Check them out. you can buy almost anywhere ...ebay, amazon. I buy off ebay all the time. even though most come from china, it takes less than two weeks to arrive.

I have to agree with this...
I preordered the HTC One and I have yet to see any cases that I really like. I've kind of settled with the Diztronic Matte case and an aluminum Devilcase bumper. I mean they get the job done as I just need a case that is sturdy enough to take a drop every so often but still be thin/lightweight.
I have to say this is one of my main gripes about the phone... the case selection. (especially compared to like an iPhone)

Received yesterday this one, the Ballistic Aspira in black-lime.
Adds a little more bulk to the One but if you have fear of dropping it accidentally this may be damping well.
Found for 14€ on ebay.

I bought a Body Glove DropSuit and a commuter series otterbox for my htc one. I pretty much use the otterbox all the time, but if I didn't have it, I wouldn't mind the dropsuit. It has easy nice grips and is pretty rugged. I'm not quite sure what kind of bells and whistles you're looking for, but I wanted something that didn't add much size to the phone and would protect it when i drop it.

Here is the case that I find looks the best:

It follows the design of the back of the phone itself and is really thin. It may not offer much in drop protection, but if you're looking to for something sleek that will keep you from scratching the hell out of your phone, this is it. It's made of a stiff TPU and is well textured for grip. Feels more plasticy than rubbery but still flexible. Fits as good as it does in the ebay pic too. A really well formed and cut case for dirt cheap. Ships from China but I got mine sent to Illinois in week's time.

The best was the poetic atmosphere but that got discontinued and now impossible to find. I wanted a second one too a blue one

I just picked up a Body Glove DropSuit at Wal-mMart for $16, best case I've had for this phone yet. I got it in Grey, I'm actually gonna go back and get one in black, too. Fits absolutely PERFECTLY, pretty much snaps on over the phone, being a lightly-flexible TPU. I've already dropped it once today, and it bounced once and landed flat. Only thing I haven't liked so far is the volume buttons are hard to push, but that's it. I LOVE it. Super grippy, and the ribbed back and grip blocks down the sides make it totally solid to hold.

Received it couple days ago; here's my thoughts on it. I'll try to keep it concise.
Feel: According to the box, the leather is actually synthetic and not actual leather. It's a $8 case so expecting leather would be too much of an overkill anyway. I have to say, it feels premium. The grip is tactile and the phone does not slip from hands.
Protection: My biggest peeve is that the leather does not extend beyond the tpu frame. The right side of the case is exposed making the right side the most vulnerable to damage. However, there is a strap that will protect your phone from a drop. That is if your phone drops completely parallel to the floor. Otherwise, it's up to the tpu frame to cushion your Nexus from possible injury. The rest of the phone is enveloped by synthetic leather and should be impregnable to drops and bumps. I have dropped my Nexus from pocket height and no damage was taken.
Functionality: The functionality is superior to the rest of the cases. The open top allows any headphone jack (regardless of size) to be compatible with your phone. Also, if you're watching movies, the stand comes in handy. Beware of the magnet though. The case takes advantage of the hall sensor built into the Nexus. Basically, the hall sensor turns the screen on and off by the detection of a magnet. Often times, my phone turned off unintentionally because my phone got too close to the magnet.
Durability: Over the course of couple days, I noticed some glue coming off. It's not that big of a deal because it's excess glue that won't affect the binding of the case.
Overall, this is a solid choice for only $8. If you're looking for functionality, this is the case to get. Thanks for reading.

I came across this one from LG that looks pretty solid. One of the reasons I ditched my iPhone was so I could have a cooler variety of accessories. Never going back after also realizing Android is awesome.

I bought this one (orange) off ebay.co.uk and it is a very good case! Inexpensive too. No magnet however but you get used to it as it fits phone very very good.

I've pretty much tried them all. You compromise on flips though in my dealings. I have tried the cruzerlites, too thick for me....the elegant rock, nice, but a tad too flimsy and no smart cover and "settled" on the Seidio Ledger flip case. What sold me was the led cut out. There's issues with the soft touch backing scuffing off at the corners, but Seidio will work with you in replacing it if you want.

I want to say yes for the most part, because the same issue did not occur with the revised Ledger case they sent me. It went though the same usage as my three other ones and this one for the most part came out with flying colors. However, I do see some slight rubbing off on the bottom of the case, which I can deal with and if it becomes very unsightly, I can go back to Seidio and ask for a new one. I still love the case and still use it as my daily driver case. Not too sure what will happen when my replacement air dock charger comes back. The ledger does not work with that, unless the air dock guys remember to ship me my sticker to put on the back of the case to reinforce the magnets. The reason why the air dock doesn't work is because the soft touch is not glossy in any way and the "micro-suction" pad doesn't adhere. Sorry I digress....
I got the ledger and it has a led cutout for the notification. Also has a smart cover and a pocket to put my google wallet card in it...nah not really, but I could:laugh:

Following up, I don't see myself using this case on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I like this case but I prefer the bulky Ballistic case over the leather case. I did a few drop tests on softer ground to see what kind of arrangement the Anker will land in. In the midst of falling, the flap opens up occasionally, causing the face of the phone to be exposed to the floor. In terms of protection, I would not rate this case highly because of the magnet's incapability of clasping the covers together. If you're sure you won't ever drop your phone, go for it if you prefer leather cases.
For now, I'm sticking with the Ballistic SG Maxx. You never know what might happen.

Purchased this a few days ago per your suggestion, I don't mind it not having led cutout since it looks pretty good imo, do you have any actual pics? mine is coming next or the week after.

Can you clarify a point? The title says "clear back". Does that mean the part of the case that covers the back of the nexus 5 is transparent?
What is the rectangular cutout on the orange leather looking cover in your images? What is it for and is it on the front or back of the nexus?
How much protection does this case provide against accidental falls?
My wife has a red back nexus 5. What color case would work best with that?

Clear back means that it is transparent as it can be seen from the pictures.
I haven't dropped it yet and hope I would not drop it any time soon but I think it offers quite good falling protection.
It is not a cutout but a metal plate with brand logo and it is not on the back (can be seen from the picture).
Black would probably be nice with it.
