Root: what works and what doesn't work - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

any one who can tell me which functions will not work if i root my s9?
i am still hesitant to root my phone as it already has the customisation i want.
however, i find it very slow to respond to apps im opening.
i wanted to install xposed module so that i can for to stay an app in the memory and not reload (like phone, messaging apps, etc)

How to replace the slide answering with a single touch?

ZL is a bit too big to handle by single hand. Sometimes I have to slide a couple of times to answer the phone call sucessfully.
So is it possible to replace it with a virtual button? I do think it cool for every vendor to follow apple.

Anyone willing to guie me through root and install custom ROM?

I always have a hard time figuring these things out. I don't ever know if I did it correctly and I have to spend hours looking up videos on the exact process to follow. Anyone willing to guide me through VOIP (like skype, mumble, or teamspeak) to root my Note and install a new ROM?
I have the SM-P600 with Kernel 3.4.39-2040736 [email protected] #1
I'd be willing to gift you some League of Legends skins (NA Server) for your time
Ok I figured it out. Only took about 3 hours.

So, the question remains: Are you willing to guide us, step by step, through the process?

Sure, whoever needs help. I'm going to guess you don't need help because according to your signature you already have the Note 2014 so you probably already rooted it. If you need help reply to this and send me your contact info.

No, I haven't rooted my Note. I'm waiting for the compelling reason. In the past, the motivation was easy. The Note has been snappy and I kinda like this version of TouchWiz so replacing the ROM is not a motivation.

You don't have to install a new ROM, you can keep the stock one if you like it.
The compelling reason is the same for any root: To give your device added functionality. Remove bloatware, add cool features like app data backup and ad blockers, and add any app to the Samsung Multi Window feature (and have more than 2 apps open if you want). And rooting takes about 30 seconds to do.
What's not compelling about that?

Bloatware hasnt slowed me down so I don't need to remove it. I've never used and ad blocker and don't find mult-window useful. I do miss Titanium Backup but Helium works, sorta. I'm still waiting for compelling. I don't really want to trigger Knox if I don't have to.

Root Explorer Help

Maybe cause this is my first LG, but usually when I owned Sammys I would go to system/app to find everything there (processes every single app) and it only shows me limited apps and NO processes. TiBu seems to mess up when I delete from there.
Did you also check system/priv-app?

Ahh I had not, thanks! I do see new things here, but I'm not sure why not as many as I should in general from my Sammy days

Interesting, especially as your video showing use of third party launchers proved successful. Doesn't seem to fit with the experience of some others. Looking forward to playing with mine from Wonda next week

[7T Pro STOCK] Permissions issues

Hello,
I need a bit of help on this, my phone has really weird permissions issues. For example, when I want to configure an app for the first time that tells me to go enable notification access and it sends me to the screen where you can toggle notification access for a lot of apps and you activate the access for the app in question, the app doesn't see that you turned the permission on when it is on (double checked). I'll link a YT video I made that shows the issue perfectly. (please take note that this happens on EVERY app that asks for permissions this way)
The video might be blurry due to YT taking its time to process the video in its full HD glory.
https://youtu.be/lPkQYS7XURo
I tried resetting the phone and clearing the dalvik cache to no avail... And I don't know if its related, but both the Facebook app and the Messenger App crash really easily while doing the most mundane stuff (sending an image is often too much). They both have full permissions enabled. Weird, huh ?
If you know how to fix this, don't hesitate to post your method in this thread

Hello,
Sorry, I just edited the YT link, now the vid is in english
Hello,
I don't know if it's allowed but I'm desperate soooo... Bump.
Okay i just saw the video. Can you disable notifications during the setup just so that you finish setting up the buds then try again enabling notification access from within the app after finishing setting it up

I tried, it keeps asking for notification permissions and won't go forward. And it does that for other apps that rely on notifications (NotifyEdge for example).

Maybe something wrong with the European firmware. That BA at the end indicates that. Try global firmware. Either stable or beta
Thanks for the advice man, I'll try with the beta and I'll get back to youas soon as possible to let you know and maybe make a psa about EU fw if it's that.
Alright, I'm downloading the beta rn and I'll update you on that ASAP.
Thanks for your time !
Well, no dice, even after the beta install... I'll try wiping everything tonight. I'll keep you updated !
