No option to make SD card as internal storage - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have purchased Nokia 6.1 one days ago. I can't find the option to make the sd card to internal storage. There is only a format option in the storage settings of sd card. Can't find the option "format and make as internal storage".
Is it possible? Or on this model this feature is not enabled!???!
Thank You.

I was hoping that the feature would come in pie update , but it didn't .
I guess no Nokia phone has that feature

it's because of Android ONE, not nokia's fault, AFAIK

Thank you for replying! Appreciate it.

Hello,
It's available with the Android PIE update for this device but there is a problem : look here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6-2018/how-to/adoptable-storage-available-pie-update-t3873841

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 (10.1, Wi-Fi) SD card internal or external storage.

Hello
I have this new Galaxy Tab A 2016 (10.1, Wi-Fi) with Android 6.0.1 and update with the latest original firmware.
I read that the new Marshmellow has an option that lets you choose whether to use the SD Card as internal or external storage.
I inserted a new micro SD Card with 64 GB , as the internal memory is only 16 GB, but nothing happened, and I cannot see anywhere, how to use this option.
The SD Card has been formatted by the tablet but it is seen as external.
Any help without root or other custom rom?
At least on my CyanogenMod custom rom (marshmallow), you have to go to "Storage & USB" (or maybe just storage). Click on menu at top right. If not, click on SD card. Find menu at top right and press "Settings" and then "Format as internal" (or try something like this).
Check this website first: howtogeek.com/242937/how-to-set-up-a-new-sd-card-in-android-for-extra-storage/
Hope this helps!
Just asking, why is this in Galaxy Tab 3 Help and Troubleshooting?
Disabled by Samsung.
There are ways to enable it on a rooted device.
Unfortunately yours cannot be.

You can't IIRC. You have to do a factory reset.
just got to the settings and select storage, select sdcard, then it will say "format as portable". youll have to back up stuff to pc first, like photos and videos. apps will be lost, you may be able to use titainium backup to restore them but I'm not sure.
it may be your card, I never had any "ejecting" issues when I used it. my phone would get to hot while using it though and performance suffered
afuller42 you're performance suffer because you had to slow SD card.
To go back from adoptable to portable storage open Settings/Storage/Phone storage/hit 3 dots od the right top corner/migrate data, bit be sure you don't have more data on SD that's your internal storage of the phone. That's all, then you can format your sd as a portable storage.

Merge internal & external memory in Samsung J2 Prime

Hi guys! First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.
I have a Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, with 8GB of internal memory. But 8GB is not enough in any way for android, upgrades & apps.
Ok, I read that Android v6.0 has support for merging internal and external memory in the way that Android reconizes it as single storage. My problem is that my phone doesn't show me that option. Just says "Format as portable storage", not “Format as internal” as I read at a forum. I have installed a SD card class 10 but this is not the problem.
This is a Samsung custom setting? I need to root my phone? It's possible to do it?
Thanks for any help!

Yes, Samsung disables this option from all their devices with the excuse being: "If your MicroSD card fails, which is totally common to fail, you will lose all your apps and apps' data" (but in my opinion and a lot of people's opinion, they disable it to force you to buy a device with bigger storage )
There are two ways to do this, with root and without
If you have root, you can use the app "Root Essentials" from the PlayStore. It'll show you step by step on how to set up adoptable storage.
If you do not have root, you have to input some commands via adb, which I do not know how to do. You will have to research this on your own.
But, just as an advice. Even with adoptable storage, it doesn't work as you would expect it to work. Not all apps will be transferred to the external memory and you'll still get the message that you are running out of memory even if you have 7 out of 16 GB used up. It's not that great.
Hello, i would like to ask about this too.
I have adopted a 16Gb sandisk UHS-I SD Card to my 8Gb Samsung J2 Prime G532G, but the storage at file manager is still 8Gb and no SD Card access. BUT at storage settings it shows 13.40Gb used out of 22.80Gb. So, where did the rest go at file manager?

Three possibilities:
- Your Nougat has formatted everything as internal.
- The card is formatted with a file format that Nougat doesn't recognize - will require a reformat with a file format it recognizes.
- Your SD card is corrupted - reformat it and see if it is recognized then.
thank you

Thx for the reply.
1. I allready formatted the card and it didnt change anything.
2. If the issue is the file format that nugat didt rocognized, is there any way to reformat it with another file format so nugat will recognize it?
3. I do have to mention that, when connect to the pc, the only option that showes the phone is the" upload pictures" but not the " upload files".
4. if there is no solution, nugat will recognize a new sdd card?
Any idea what to next?
Thank you again!

When you bought your phone what was the original GB size for the model and what size was your SD card?
Do your setting in Nougat reflect just the original phone GB's or does it reflect the combined size of the phone's GB size + the SD card size? If so your SD card has been formatted as internal in Nougat and you will have to google the fix to get the SD card treated as external storage.
If not, google what formats Nougat recognizes and format accordingly.
If that fails, try a new SD card ...

- prefix your search with XDA and be specific "XDA - Nougat formatting SD card as internal" or some such. I do not have Nougat so can't help you there - I've seen the issue mentioned before so if you put garbage in your search you will get either garbage or nothing relevant back ... learn to troubleshoot, it will pay future dividends in this arena.

Android 8.1 can't move App to SD

I can't move app to my SD, only External storage format. Someone have the same trouble?
I mailed Nokia customer support about this issue and eventually got the following reply:
Greetings from Nokia Mobile Care ! We are sorry for the inconvenience that you are facing!
Please kindly keep in mind that the Nokia 6.1 device, as well as all other Android 1 devices, do not have the option for Internal storage formatting of an SD card. Additionally, there is no option for forced formatting of an SD card as such.
We hope this information managed to answer your inquiry. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again!
Still waiting for an explanation as why the User Manual says that Apps can be moved to the SD card.
I believe in the reviews I read that Nokia chose not to implement "adoptable storage" in the 6.1
This is a trend in some new phones which is not welcome.

That option only force apps that normally can't be installed on SD card to be able to move, but we are not even able to move apps which can be moved.
Sent from my Lenovo TB-8704F using XDA Labs
From the AOSP site: "Caution: On devices running Android 7.0-8.1, file-based encryption can't be used together with adoptable storage. On devices using FBE, new storage media (such as an SD card) must be used as traditional storage. Devices running Android 9 and higher can use adoptable storage and FBE." Fingers crossed that when 9 rolls out for the Nokia phones in the Android One program, that adoptable stroage becomes an option. (again, the ability to use both fbe and adoptable stroage only affects phones in the Android One program, why? I don't know)
Adoptable Storage now available, but corrupts files!

The Pie update is finally here (Build 00WW_3_260_SP01) and it is now possible to format an SD Card as "Phone Storage" (aka "Adoptable Storage") but doing so WILL CORRUPT YOUR FILES!
Here is how to do it:
Format the SD Card using something the device won't recognize (NTFS, EXT4, etc.)
Turn off phone
Insert SD Card
Turn on phone
Tap the notification about Unsupported SD Card which brings up the storage options with a Format this SD Card? dialog popped-up on top of it
Tap CANCEL on the Format this SD Card? dialog to see additional options
Tap Phone storage in the Use for extra phone storage part of the screen
You will see another Format this SD Card? dialog that looks identical to the previous one
This time, tap FORMAT SD CARD
You may get a warning about the SD Card being too slow. Ignore that and proceed.
After the format completes, you may think you have working adopted storage, but you don't. Files written to /sdcard (which now points to the removable SD Card) will randomly be corrupted. One way to see the corruption is to tap the Move content button after the format above completes. If you had a lot of data on your internal SD Card (such as hundreds of pictures), much of it will now be corrupted. You were warned.
Another way to see the corruption is to use the adb utility to push files to /sdcard on the device. When you pull the files back, many will be corrupted. It's quick and easy to see the corruption using images (I push about 570 of them) and then launch Google Photos.
Which is worse, not supporting adoptable storage or supporting it and corrupting our files?
