Hi guys! First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.
I have a Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, with 8GB of internal memory. But 8GB is not enough in any way for android, upgrades & apps.
Ok, I read that Android v6.0 has support for merging internal and external memory in the way that Android reconizes it as single storage. My problem is that my phone doesn't show me that option. Just says "Format as portable storage", not “Format as internal” as I read at a forum. I have installed a SD card class 10 but this is not the problem.
This is a Samsung custom setting? I need to root my phone? It's possible to do it?
Thanks for any help!

Yes, Samsung disables this option from all their devices with the excuse being: "If your MicroSD card fails, which is totally common to fail, you will lose all your apps and apps' data" (but in my opinion and a lot of people's opinion, they disable it to force you to buy a device with bigger storage )
There are two ways to do this, with root and without
If you have root, you can use the app "Root Essentials" from the PlayStore. It'll show you step by step on how to set up adoptable storage.
If you do not have root, you have to input some commands via adb, which I do not know how to do. You will have to research this on your own.
But, just as an advice. Even with adoptable storage, it doesn't work as you would expect it to work. Not all apps will be transferred to the external memory and you'll still get the message that you are running out of memory even if you have 7 out of 16 GB used up. It's not that great.
Hello, i would like to ask about this too.
I have adopted a 16Gb sandisk UHS-I SD Card to my 8Gb Samsung J2 Prime G532G, but the storage at file manager is still 8Gb and no SD Card access. BUT at storage settings it shows 13.40Gb used out of 22.80Gb. So, where did the rest go at file manager?

Hi
I bought the Note 10.1 with 16 GB memory thinking that I will be able to move the APPS to the external 32 GB memory I had installed. However APP2SD tells me that "the device does not have a real primary external storage or the primary storage is emulated".
I set the install location as 2 through the SDK adb devices command prompt screen. Still I am not getting the option to transfer the APPS to the SD card.
Can someone tell me whether this option can be activated or is it blocked by Samsung. I am able to transfer the APPS to external storage in my HTC Desire phone with ICS update
oh wow, apps2sd doesn't work on the Galaxy S3.
I hope that's not the case for the GN2. Can anyone else confirm?
On my Note 1, I'm currently using Directory bind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
to move stuff off that apps2sd doesn't work with, but it requires root.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/treat-your-sd-card-as-your-real-external-storage-with-swapsd/
is another option, but I'd hate to use that. Internal memory should be much faster than external card memory.

Wrong forum?
Take a look in the note 10.1 forum, under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development. There are 2 guides how to move your apps to sd. Though you need root for both i suppose!
And that is the exact reason Google doesn't want OEM's to include expandable storage. When apps are moved to the SD card, they are unable to sync correctly with the OS. SD cards will be a thing of the past within 2 years...
Unable to apps to micro sd card.

I have the GN2, and I can confirm that moving apps to the sd card is not possible. Is there some other program that's needed in order to make moving apps to the sd possible? And advice would be much appreciated.
Instead of starting another thread, I would also like to know the answer to this as I just received my note 2 and I cannot move apps to sd card.
i noticed that too... i wanted to move some of the apps to the sd card but it doesn't have the move to sd card option...
Hi,
I would like to swap the default storage to the SD card. I have T800 and find the 16gb not enough for all my staff.
Is there any way to swap the default storage? I have found link2sd but I never used it and maybe there is a better solution. I am rooted and running Ironrom .

Thanks for your reply. The app just allows to move the movable apps to the SD but this is already built in and I can do this from the app manager.
I wanted to swap the actual default storage from the internal storage to SD. Some of the smartphones do have this option. (I have a Honor 6 phone and I am able to change the default storage from internal to external. Even without root.)
Unfortunately you can't do that with any Samsung device, they just didn't fix it because of the SD card liability and how they construct their folders. I've been wanting that to make it easy.

That's why i am nostalgic to Jelly Bean . I even get lost of my Windows 8 laptop for the changes i don't like, happy now with Windows 7 and Microsoft knows it , the start menu is back in Windows 10.
And for Android,i stay far away from Lollipop. KitKat is bad enouf for me
when there's a will there's a way
No default to sd card but you can move the installed apps via settings in the apps manager. Also you could try foldermount to link these large files to the sd card
Hello
I have this new Galaxy Tab A 2016 (10.1, Wi-Fi) with Android 6.0.1 and update with the latest original firmware.
I read that the new Marshmellow has an option that lets you choose whether to use the SD Card as internal or external storage.
I inserted a new micro SD Card with 64 GB , as the internal memory is only 16 GB, but nothing happened, and I cannot see anywhere, how to use this option.
The SD Card has been formatted by the tablet but it is seen as external.
Any help without root or other custom rom?
At least on my CyanogenMod custom rom (marshmallow), you have to go to "Storage & USB" (or maybe just storage). Click on menu at top right. If not, click on SD card. Find menu at top right and press "Settings" and then "Format as internal" (or try something like this).
Check this website first: howtogeek.com/242937/how-to-set-up-a-new-sd-card-in-android-for-extra-storage/
Hope this helps!
Just asking, why is this in Galaxy Tab 3 Help and Troubleshooting?
Disabled by Samsung.
There are ways to enable it on a rooted device.
Unfortunately yours cannot be.

Hi there,
I recently installed LinageOS to my Galaxy S4 (GTI-9505). Before I used the last stock ROM Samsung provided. Everything seems to run fine and until now I'm very pleased with the new OS on my smartphone.
But I have a question regarding the usage of a SD-card. The phone itself has 16 GB of internal memory. Additionally I have a 16 GB SD-card inserted. AFAIK there are two options on how to use the SD-card with LineageOS.
1. Use it as removable memory for photos, videos, etc.
2. Use it as expansion for the internal memory.
When I use it as figured in No. 1 am I still able to install apps on the SD-card? Just like with the stock rom where you explicitly had to move apps to the SD-card.
What happens when I'm using it as figured in No. 2? At the moment the card doesn't seem to be used that much as I have plenty of internal space. Won't it be used until the internal memory is full? What happens when the SD-card dies while it is used later on? Does that automatically brick my device so that I have to reinstall everything?
Are there any recommendations on that topic? Thank you.
Best regards
willy
Hi there,
I recently got an M2-802l. I'm already hitting the limits of the internal storage so I've started moving apps to the sdcard I've inserted into the device. I have a few queries about this...
1) what are the best (most compatible) sdcards people are using with their M2's?
2) I'm seeing a little sdcard error icon in the system menu. I've no idea where to check this. It's not appearing (in any obvious location) under storage. (I'm using a Sandisk Extreme pro)
3) If I resolve this sdcard error - is it possible to enable use SD as internal? I can't see the option anywhere. I can set sdcard as default. But I don't think that's the same.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
I am using the SanDisk 200GB SDCard I got from my LG V10 Promotion....working fine so far. As for #2, can you post a screen shot? #3, I am not able to find the enable SD CARD as internal storage. Huawei probably removed it. Might need to flash a custom ROM with Stock Nougat to see that option.

Hello richfort,
Officially these types of SD Cards are compatible with M2 8.0 models :
microSD
microSDHC
microSDXC
with sizes that can vary from the 1-2-4-8 GB up to 256 GB.
I have several noName, Samsung and SanDisk SD cards tested / used on the tablet without any issues so far (Samsung 32GB Evo Plus (SDHC), Samsung 128GB Evo Plus (SDXC), TDK 16GB (SDHC), SanDisk 64GB Ultra (SDXC), Integral 64GB (SDXC), etc..)
You can also use the famous Dual USB 3.0 (OTG or not) Flash Drives, depending on usage and type of activities you do with. Myself, I've never tested those with my tablet.
Concerning, the error you have, try to test another SD-Card, not PRO model, and see it the same happens.
Also, from technical point of view, SD and Internal storage are 2 different type of storage. Never tested neither but maybe the "Secure Folder" might be the answer you're looking for.
Otherwise, I would advise to leave the things as default, just be sure that SD Card is the default storage for all pictures, videos, data, caches, and related activities and needs.
Hope this helps anyhow.
Have a nice day.
Kind Regards.
