The strangest thing happened. I had a professional install a brand new screen on my Pixel 2 XL and now most notifications don't come through and it doesn't ring and I only have the earpiece speaker. Music and videos only play through the earpiece speaker I don't get phone rings, email notifications for AquaMail, SMS/MMS the same. If I use a stock notification it comes through.
I am on Dirty Unicorns from July, Magisk, ElementalX.
What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Nobody has any ideas, theories?

When they replace the screen, several ribbons have to be unplugged then plugged back in. Maybe something got damaged or disconnected.

My screen was also replaced on Monday. No issues whatsoever, the screen also seems to be better than the original one with less blue shift.
No matter how many employees this guy has, he did something wrong! But I checked everything before I paid (speakers, cellular connection, GPS). Didn't you?

screen replacement of the screen is so easy, i did it last week by myself, and unfortunate the bottom speaker stopped working and the ear one start loud then dim by time until you can't hear anything..
i do some inspection and i find out that i knock out the bottom speaker transistors when i was unplug my old screen... the transistors is so tiny black peace beside the screen flex.
i don't know if this issue can be fixed or i need to change the whole main board !!! but am sure that is the thing happened to you too
i will send the phone for ismash to try to get it fixed so wish me luck

This might be the reason for my problem!

Dear,
I have a problem, and I'm not sure if it's possible to fix. I have a X01HT that I flashed many times. From some days ago (I think), it produces a really annoying "whistle" (like a 'piiiiii') that destroyed my ears . I thought that it was a problem of any program, so I try to hard-reset, and also Flash another ROM (even another Radio), but nothing changes. Even after a Hard-reset, the sound never disappear (><) Any idea?
Thanks
César
Is the whistle on in bootloader? In standby?
Have you checked using loud speaker and same noise?
Have you tried muting the volume?what happens?

It is all the time the device is ON: since I press the button and it turns ON until It turns OFF, no matter what it's doing: (rebooting, in bootloader after hard reset, with IExplore, etc.).

Mute the volume is the same; the noise is there.
Also, I notice that I can hear the noise real more stronger when I have the screen in front of me (If I'm looking to the back of the device, I almost can't hear anything).

Then it's just the phone speaker, not the loudspeaker at the back.
I would ask what happens to the noise when you plug in the headphones, but it's a hardware problem anyway, so repair center it is.
We use some Symbol PPT8800 series PocketPC devices (runs PPC2003) and some of our units start making those noises, after heavy use. But generally its shortly before they go pop, I'm afraid to say.
Hope yours is something else.

I plug the headphones, and it's the same.
I also imagine that it's hardware problem (><)
I had the same problem (AT&T Branded 8525) started after I'd had it only 3-4 Months. I'd purchased two and flashed them with same ROM's however, I only had this problem out one. Spoke to AT&T's division of HTC warranty center. End result...it was hardwar problem. They shipped a replacement device @ not cost to me. Problem fixed.
so as far as i can see there is no home made solution for this?
try removing the battery and try and turn on the phone without the battery (it won't go on) for about 10sec this will drain any remaining power in the circuits. Then reinstall the battery and see if that fixes it.
Chris
It sounds like you are having the same problem I have with my 8525. It's probably not your speakers but more your LCD screen.
There have been a lot of complaints about this, with no easy fix other than to send it in and get it repaired/replaced and alot of the times the replacements have the same problem.
I've learned to live with it by turning off the screen when I am on the phone.

That sounds right...so is there anything that we can do about it without sending it in for "repair"?
I've tried a hard reset, taking the battery out and still I have no sound from my any of my speakers. Profiles and sounds are set as normal and still no sound. Sounds works for like 2 minutes after I reboot my phone but then it goes dead. Any solutions?
EDIT: Notifications work so it's not a hardware issue, just no sound through Windows Media or other apps and no sound through my earpiece via calls, can't even turn on speakerphone for calls.

I flashed Ricky's 6.1 and that seems to have taken care of the issue so far, granted it's been three days. That was the weirdest freakin' problem i've had with my HTC Excalibur and i've had it for 4 years.
Good to know that you solved your problem
Okay Problem didn't go away. Sound is muffled like something is covering the speaker. Nothing is covering it on the outside including my fingers. Could something on the inside of the hardware possibly be covering the speaker or a disconnected speaker wire be causing the muffled sound?
Sorry to hear thought you tweaked There is a dismantling guide in the sticky will be worth checking may also be an easy repair if just speaker replacement.
Where would one get a speaker replacement for an Excalibur? I've never seen a part store for cellular devices.

Ebay can be an option,
Dismantling + cleaning should work. Remove the speaker off the back cover and get the dust out of the gap between cover and speaker. The housing has no fabric cover at the housing inside and there is plenty of space for dirt to accumulate between speaker and inner side of the cover. The speaker itself if guarded with a fabric on top.
You could also carefully use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dirt off through the grid before go for dismantling...
Hello , i recently bought the Desire HD, and havent been experiencing any problems with it except of one quite annoying.
When im in a call, either outgoing or incoming, the speaker makes a weird crackling noise.
This happens always, and happens on both the phones speaker, and loud speaker (depending on which is selected during call), and headphones(when connected). Ive searched the forum, and some people have been experiencing a sort of problem, but not on the same device.
any help is very much appreciated thank you
I can verify that I'm experiencing the same with my Desire HD.
We discussed this issue already in the german "Android-Hilfe"-Forum. This buzzing, crackling noise seems to affect a small number of desire HD's. Mine was affected too. All the devices have been changed on warranty with no costs for the customer in germany. No matter from which provider they were bought.
Edit: BTW: Wrong Forum, I think. Could an Admin move this thread please?
Thanks for the quick replies guys, appreciate it
Hi All,
My Desire HD has started doing this today too! Really gutted. What has HTC UK support been like this on it? Replacement or repair, and how quick? I dont want to be without a phone long! Is this a widely recognised problem, apart from this thread I dont see much on it. Im wondering if the buzz comes from a loose LED flash cover vibrating caused by the speaker?
Thanks very much
I have the same and I thought it is the proximity sensor opening and closing.
Are you guys sending it back for replacement or are you going to live with it?
i have the same problem it sounds like the earpice is short circuiting for 1/10 second
i dont know is it a general problem or only limitted to our handsets
and if we update the radio version is it going to disappear or not
any help is appreciated

I sent 2 support cases to HTC at the same time. The one was for tjis issue and the other for something else. The other one was answered next day but for that one, not a word. Does this tell you something?

I say that: I contacted HTC support in regards to this but haven't received a reply. But, I have received replys for other cases. And this doesn't sound good.
i have the same issue
Issue with noise
I recently replaced my DHD due to a similar issue. I found if my hand palm was making contact at all with the SIM.SD Card cover, ie the antenna I would get an extremely high pitch feedback sound. Also if phone was on charge the crackle sound was audible.
Orange were great and replaced the original handset straight away at no cost but the replacement also appears to have the same issue. For the moment I'm considering contacting HTC direct but i'm not sure as otherwise I love the phone, and truly believe it is the best on the market.
I think the issue might be resolved if i get a outer protective cover so I'm going to try that first, and not use the device while on charge.
Would be good to know if others have had these experiences.

Whatever you decide, contact HTC so that they know and work on the problem. As I said, I contacted them but never received a reply which means that they are aware and have no solution.

That must be a different issue. I hear that noise via BT headset when I don't even touch the phone. I believe it's due to the sound frequency change during a call and the low quality speaker cannot handle. It's like using a high wattage amplifier on a low quality speaker and expect to hear deep bass sound. I guess you all know the result of such sound.
I'm also experiencing this problem. Sent the phone in and got it back but the problem is still there. They changed the motherboard and the loudspeaker but that obviously didn't fix the problem. So now I probably have to send it back again.
i just hope this problem can be fixed with software..
hi all,
in my case occasionally during call's even whit sound volume low a ear the person talking with " extremely high pitch feedback sound".
It's a very good phone but that problem is starting to annoying me.
i allready send a email to htc portugal and their response was to send the equipment to the repair center
in you opion what should i do? send to repair?
Thanks
Have you tried enabling the SRS improvement? It can be done in the music player. It made the crackling sound during calls in my device disappear...

I will try this and post back...
What I'm experiencing, when I'm on hold with my service provider (Vodafone AU) I can hear the normal on hold music then at random intervals just for a half a second or so the music cuts and there's an annoying crackle noise. Sometimes there is no noise for a while then there can all of a sudden there can that crackle noise every few seconds. Like another person has said for me if I change to loudspeaker it still does the crackle noises and turning the volume down doesn't help. I've tried taking my hand off the phone but it still happens. I have noticed a few times the reception bars icon, drop a bar or gain a bar when this noise happens so maybe there's a link?!? By the way I'm running LeeDroid 1.4.1 (wich is based on HTC's 1.72.405.3 ROM). Also I'm running the Jan 17th Radio version: 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
Right. This could well sound daft but try it anyway! Someone on another forum said it worked for him (her?) and it worked for me with a Nokia E71. The speaker was 'crackling' so I did the usual googling. The answer was, for me, to suck really hard on the speaker a couple of times. Basically the diaphragm gets put out of place and the 'sucking' gets it back.
Try it and see! Though it won't fix the 'feedback-type' noises I'd guess but I find most of those are specific to a particular call. Either call back, or get them to call you back, and all is well.

Hey,
I recently got my phone back from an RMA and my the phone's ear speaker doesn't work at all. This prevents me from using my phone as a phone unless I use speaker phone which is not ideal in most situations. I really don't want to send the phone away on another RMA for what is probably a small hardware misconfiguration, does anyone know of how to fix this a resource for doing so? I am having no luck on google.
Thanks,
E. Lensherr.

I had encountered the same problem with my old HTC ONE X. When I searched on net I found that many people like me were there facing this problem. I adopted one suggestion from there and installed a third party app 'SOUNDABOUT'. Now with the help of this third party app sound can be routed via desired channel (Speaker, Head Phone, ear piece or blue tooth devices).
Hope this solves the issue.
Thanks.

Sent my phone in for an RMA (Repair) last week, still waiting on getting it back.
I opened mine up today to replace a cracked screen and kind of looked where the earpiece speaker is behind the mounting frame and kind of push the contacts out a little. Im thinking maybe it wasn't making a good connection. But nonetheless it works now. I dont know if it was because of that or just my luck at taking it apart and putting it back together.
Today the phone was sitting on my nightstand when I got a phone call. The phone was on vibration, and vibrated for a while normally, then, as if something inside got loose, made a very weird noise when vibrating. Since then, the vibration strength has been extremely weak, and if I shake the phone, I can hear something rattling. Should I start thinking about getting an RMA for this phone?
Also, I bought the phone used online. Does Google provide support/RMA in that case?
sound like the vibration motor has broken, as you brought the phone used you may not be able to get fixed under warranty. But it is worth a try, juts try blagging it with the google rep to get an RMA.

Yes lol. The phone was running flawlessly since November, and I amrunning PN and franco kernel on the phone, so most likely it's not a knock off. The vibration issue just happened today.
Sorry, I didn't know.
My first pixel device suffered from the same problem the vibration motor sounded like it was on its last legs suddenly and made a rattle sound too, had to get a replacement and my second pixel has been flawless.
