I have just checked and it appears that last year Oneplus 3T started receiving stable Android Oreo at 19th of November. Today we are 12th of November and we still didn't receive even a beta on Android Pie, despite Android 5T having a Project Treble support. Just to summarize:
Android Oreo stable release: 21st August 2017
Android Oreo on Oneplus 3T: 19th November 2017
Software update delay for Oneplus 3T: 91 days
Android Pie stable release: 6th August 2018
Android Pie on Oneplus 5T: Not Known
Software update delay for Oneplus 5T: 99+ days
Just for reference Android Pie was released for Oneplus 6 21st of September 2018, which makes the delay mere 47 days from the official release.
So the question is why even though we have Project Treble support we have to wait so much more to get the newest version of Android?!?
My guess would be it has something to do with overall sales, or active users using OOS. The 3T has a pretty large following. Really I'm just very happy that the 5T got tons of support from the development community. The 6 didn't even get official Lineage support. The other part of this is Treble doesn't automatically solve all update problems.
I'm looking at ordering a 6T, but I'm sort of waiting to see what kind of support the 6T gets.
I just hope we have a beta before the end of the year!

If I was OnePlus I would hold the update until after the Xmas sales hoping to boost more sales of the 6T, your less likely to want to upgrade if you have a new OS update to play with. So I'm guessing that's what the delay is due to.
Edit, to add to this, also if I was OnePlus I would be extremely concerned that the type of person that bought and is still using the 5T is going be extremely disappointed with the 6T (like me) so holding back the pie update is just a tactical move.
Oneplus is settling definitely, even the older Sony smartphones are getting their Pie update recently.

It's impressive they still have the audacity to use the "never settle" motto, since the 5T they have gone totally against their "giving user's what they want" mindset. Who asked for a a screen aspect ratio of over 18:9 and a notched display to achieve it? Nobody. Who asked for a slower less functional indisplay fingerprint scanner? Nobody.

Did you guys see the articles about the OP7 and the 5G rollout? OP is probably going to come out with another entire lineup of phones. The higher end ones will have 5G enabled to work on US carriers that are rolling out 5G in 2019, and the lower end ones will not. The OP7, if it's called that, is going to be the lower end phone.
First I was going to upgrade to the OP6t but they took away more features than they added. The jack and no notification LED put it over the top for me...I was like ok, I'll wait for the OP7, maybe it'll be smoothed out. Turns out I might have to switch brands after I get sick of the 5t. Very slim options for a GSM phone that works on ATT with unlockable bootloader and sub $600 price. Very disappointed in OP. I know business is business, but it'll cause people like me to jump to something else.
I'm on CNP now and it's great, but i would like to be on an OOS beta of Pie instead. All in all, it's not looking good in the near future.

All they had to do was add Pixel 2 style stereo speakers to the 5T symmetrical bezels and fit a decent vibration motor, along with the processor and camera upgrades in the 6/6T I'd have paid whatever they asked for it.

same boat as you fam
oneplus has lately become another generic phone brand. they can shout "community community" in their keynote but they know they don't give a flying duck about the community. they have grown a blind fan base(not the whole community) which literally support any bad decision. these are the same folks who during 5t days were lover of headphone jack and hater of notch and now are like "oneplus notch is the better looking notch compared to others" and "tbh i don't use the headphone jack nowadays" and "the in-display FP scanner is slower but it is OK because it is so cool". always trying to come up with excuses to justify buying the device. next is oneplus tying up with carriers in the US and hiring celebs for ads in India and once brands start doing these kinda stuff you know they are going the route of becoming another generic brand. 5t is the last phone by oneplus for the community. now they are riding the success by standing on the shoulders of their community and don't give a duck about them. next watch them make bootloader unlock void warranty.
I think the problem with Oneplus is that they are actually rebranding Oppo phones, which are designed for the Chinese market as Oneplus devices. So they follow the Chinese trends in the phone design and the Chinese customers. But for me is inexplicable why they are slowing down the update cycle for their older devices. I got the impression that all their employees start working on some gimmicky features for their new phones and no one is actually working to update the older devices, which is sad. I think they should concentrate to release one device per year and don't ignore their older devices. I like the fact that they are implementing the features from their newer phones into the older devices, unlike other phone makers and more notably Pixel. Every Pixel device is coming with some exclusive features, but those features are not ported to their other Pixel phones and I would have been really pissed off if I were their customer.
and yesterday a friend of mine told me that even the Oneplus 3T has received the Android Pie upgrade in the beta channel. I am also on the beta channel and so far I am stuck on OP5T_02_Beta_19. This is really infuriating when your device isn't getting timely updates and devices older than this are getting them.

Don't forget that the upgrade to Android Pie has a lot of new features over Oreo, where Lollipop to Oreo wasn't that big of an update.

Actually because of treble the update from oreo to pie should be easier.
There is a lot of crying over nothing in this thread. The removal of the headphone jack was either due to space issues implementing or market trend or both. The notch too, trying to provide near bezel-less design, another market trend. They made the notch much smaller on the 6T trying to appease both parties.
No one asked for in-display fingerprint sensor? Just most of the tech community which Oneplus is one of the first to offer it.
The 5T still receives timely patching and system stability updates which Pie will be coming in the next few months.
God Oneplus sucks!
What's the point of having PIE if OnePlus is going to keep stuffing it full of the Analytics/Data Mining crap!
What the entire world cares less about their Privacy & Security these days?
Personally I could careless about Pie, if they're going to keep stuffing it with this rubbish!
PIE great, whenever it comes, but how about a company that cares about your Privacy & Security more and gives you a better ROM for this, rather then frilly fancies...

yup i agree. xiaomi rightly gets a lot of crap for their adware but somehow oneplus gets away with its data mining crap throughout their own forums, reddit and here too.
The whole point about the update situation is that the Oneplus 5T is out of stock and Oneplus doesn't make any money anymore out of it.
They said that pie beta would come last week but that was just another lie. Oneplus more and more feels like Elon Musk. Promising stuff they know they won't achieve.
If anyone thinks that they must adapt stuff and that's what makes everything complicated is just wrong. They already ported OxygenOS to Android Pie. There is nothing to adapt anymore besides a few small drivers which they have access to. That's the whole point of treble support. Essential released pie about 10 mins after Google did! Plus: The OEMs even got the source code of the first Alpha before it is officially announced, so OP must have had the first Pie Image since.....feb 2018?
Everyone should stop whining here about Pie and start spamming twitter. The official OP community is already full of unsatisfied customers.

Hello,
I'm interested into buying this phone but a thing that matters highly to me is to have the latest Android.
So I ask you guys, if you have more experience with oneplus, how's the speed of updates and stability?
I saw that oneplus 2 got the mm update only one month ago?
That's unacceptable to me..
If you want the most up-to-date version of Android with security patches then the OnePlus is not gonna cut it for you. The only devices that get speedy updates are Nexus devices. That is one of the main reasons I switched to a Nexus. I love pure Android and being able to receive the latest version of Android is great. The support that Google provides Nexus devices is awesome. I have a Nexus 6 that I use everyday as well as a 6P to play with. The 6 and 6P are both solid devices. I'm ready for the 2016 Nexus to be released later this year. Grab a Nexus device and you will not be disappointed. Good luck on your choice.

Love my OnePlus 3! You dont need updates fast, if u want that, then root or buy a nexus!
If you look on update for the oneplus 2, stable update are out kind of late, way later than a nexus device of course but before some major phone manufacturer like LG or Samsung (but it depends on the device for each manufacturer). If the update is important go for a nexus phone. My old nexus 4 goes all the way from Kit kat to lollipop 5.1.1 and officially because with CM it got Marshmallow on nightly build.

Bull****.
Although Oneplus has yet to prove that their service and update policy - which always left much to be desired - has gotten better, they already reacted well to user complaints and issued already 2 updates. My RMA also went smoothly.
With LG, for instance, I had worse experiences.
There will be bug fixes and updates every so often.Theres Been two ota updates for one plus 3 since it's release. Not bad,but these updates still have loads of bugs.
It will be a long time before oxygen is is stable on the op3.Still if u like to root and play around with ROMs.There are plenty of options and the one plus 3 is an awesome device
if you are picky and feel an update is most important to you yeah go with Nexus but despite others issues have had owned 4 devices and the problems as small as they are were not worth all the crying I see in here. Yeah I had a Nexus and Samsung as well which all had there quirks. Like mentioned rooting will keep you on top of whatever it is you want to be on top of
Nobody knows how the update experience is going to be for this device. Obviously, if we look at history, things aren't looking too hopeful.
I feel OnePlus is much more on top of their game with this device though. As others have said, the device has only been out around a month and OnePlus has already released a handful of timely updates. One of these updates directly addressed complaints about the phone's RAM management and display calibration. OnePlus had their reasons for the way they configured RAM management and the display, but had no issue with making adjustments to satisfy their customers. I have nothing but respect for them as a company for making that move.
Some are making complaints about the phone having some bugs, but they are few and far between amongst the vast majority of phones (a handful of forum posts don't represent the vast majority). I, personally, only experience the silent notifications bug sporadically...other than that the phone has been perfect. These bugs will surely be addressed in further updates.
If the next Nexus is priced as competitively as phones like the OP3 and the Axon 7, I'll surely be going with one. However, if it is priced like last year's ($499 for 32gb), I'll be hanging onto my OP3.

What issues? Those people seem trolls or noobs. Every device has issues upon launch. If you have hardware issues then open Paypal claims. My device has been perfect so far and I don't care about speed of updates because I have rooted it and can Install CM any time I like.

It seems like it is probably time to retire my four year old Huawei Mate 10 Pro. It's still on Android 8 (because that is the last Android version thst can be rooted on this phone), and does still work pretty well. for me.
I've been planning to replace it with something from Oneplus for a while as I've been attracted to the pro-developer ethos they used to promote. I got the Huawei when samsung got weird but it never had much development activity to play around with.
But still... there are options. OP 9 Pro? Pixel 6 Pro? S21 Ultra? Or stay at the 6.4" sort of size and get the OP9 non-pro or Pixel 6 non-pro? I have never liked curved screens but I understand the 9 Pro curve is pretty minimal.
I get annoyed by little things not working right, so I have always had root on my phones. Not just for ad blocking but also things like disable-flag-secure so I can screenshot anything (it's my screen to shot!), freezing bloatware, etc.
Then again it seems like root is less and less popular, maybe it's not worth it any more.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Given what's available now would you still choose this phone?

I've been using OnePlus phones since OP3. They were my favourite Android makers. But their recent performance makes me say you should probably get a Pixel 6/Pro.
If the money is no issue go for Pro.
If you want to save some money go for Pixel 6 or Oneplus 9.
But the best option is to wait a little. You can get Oneplus 10/Pro or Xiaomi Mi12/Ultra, or Samsung Note 22. Or maybe Pixel will come down in price.
For adblocking use Private DNS = dns.adguard.com. You don'y need root for this.
The 9 Pro can still hold its own, but there are other devices on the horizon. Try one in a store if you can...
Thank you very much for the replies.
There's nowhere around here that I can try a OP 9 or 9 Pro, just online. I can try the Pixel anywhere though.
I think you are right, I'll wait and see what happens between now and March or so - better prices or better devices.
Thanks again.
Run away from Oneplus. This brand is dead.
Kinda agreed on some when they say OnePlus experience has changed for the worst. Them leaving Oxygen OS for Color OS is a nail in the coffin. I am also looking to the Pixel 6 Pro but I don't feel the Pixel measures up to the 9 Pro yet, for example charging time is one of them. Eventually I fear it'll be time to leave OP.

Same for me, the charging is too slow on the Pixel 6 pro.
I will definitely sell my OP9 Pro before the 10 is released to lose the minimum amount of money.
Gone are the days when the OnePlus 1 came out with Cyanogen OS. Today we no longer have the sources and the impossibility of using Gcam without restrictions.
The development of the alternative scene will slowly die off.
Oh and daring to release a "stable" release of Android 12 in the state in which they dared to release it shows the non-seriousness and the total lack of respect of the brand.
It's a shame.
What the brand represented is really dead, today it is a Chinese brand like any other. Don't buy this trash.
Hi all.
I'm thinking of getting a 9 pro and was wondering, would you buy it again if you had your current experience to help make your decision? I've found a few around $650, used. I'm not worried about insane camera quality. A good screen, solid performance, fast charging and being able to root and ROM it are what is drawing me in. I loved the 7 Pro I had but I've seen some say they don't think anything later has lived up to that and the quality has degraded. It nearly pushed me back to a 7 pro but I take it with a grain of salt, figured I'd ask here and see from some current users.
As for ROM's, /e/ apparently works. And Lineage. Does the color OS merge cause any new privacy concerns? I don't know a lot of how it has progressed, to be honest. I'm planning to ROM and de-google as much as I can.
Anyone who's used a PIxel 5a, might it be a better solution, cheaper?
Thanks for your input!
Honestly if I could go back, I wouldve bought a Galaxy s21 ultra. Android 12 is still so buggy for me and I'm not keen on OnePlus merging with oppo. I love OOS.
Maybe,. It still has been solid, like screen is beautiful, w/ refresh rate. It has the thirty minute 0-100 charge and forty minute wireless charge. It sounds good and looks good so maybe so.
One thing is the fast charging is 65 watts; which I liked the 35 watt on the 8 pro.
One of the drawbacks was the US unlocked version came with one sim slot, instead of two, like it should of been.
Also when the few updates were good , unlocked version usually only received the incremental version on Google server; but the last one, I just flashed in TWRP (which has been a beauty).
So all in all still a solid device with the microg and Gapps option.
If the Samsung can be unlocked, etc, and looking like it will be supported then maybe that might be the way. I've been looking at them the last few years and I really like that foldable phone that opens to a tablet.
The last one I personally owned was the S3 and that was the days. I remember it coming out and being like, "WOW". That was the CyanogenMod era for me on that S3.
Anyway I hope it works out in what you decide. One thing I think by the way is "how easy is it to recover, and which method? How easy to brick, etc?
Take care, and I hope this post is not too much, but I can relate (like I'm sure most of us here on XDA can), and thought I'd add my thoughts.

Yes. I would buy 9 Pro.
One of the best screen on the market. Hardware, same. Charging on Oneplus is awesome. When i buy my phone battery was 0. I charged with my phone Off in 27 minutes, 0-100 %. Than i buy wireless 50w, crazy fast too. I put my phone on the stand . Then i must have my eyes on the watch. It goes to 100% in no time, if i let it.
About ColorOS... Many people forget that Oppo Fiind 7 came out at the same time with OnePlus One (almost same phone). Oppo works on is own processor. Oppo made a foldable already.
Color OS works fine (on my European model phone). I'm glad that we don't have that Stupid cartoon that i see on Pixel 6 phones. Looks llike is made by a 3 years old kid.
Oxygen OS was Awesome, but unfortunately google f*cked up this great OS.
Camera on Oneplus 9 pro is good. I like xPan mode, especially.

exactly how I feel too.
Yes I would, I'd make sure I know the origin of the phone, I.e. Eu, USA TMobile, India, China. I would then find out which rom it has flashed. Then use these to compare which country you're using it in, to make sure there's no surprise. Also I'd stick with a11 or a12 on a rom you like. My spec's are in the screenshot and I'm in the UK.
I would buy the 9 Pro again, but I'm going to try the 10 Pro when Global model available!
Cheers
I would probably buy unlocked, but I would buy again. I would also have done a little more looking so I didn't end up with my phone stuck on India firmware now.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Still undecided for now.
Another question; would you go to/back to a 7t Pro McLaren? Looks like it's about a $250 difference. I loved my 7 Pro and I'm willing to do a battery change. Or is the 9 Pro just so ahead that it's worth it to you?
Oh, and for those who wouldn't buy a 9 pro, would you mind to elaborate a little more? I'm down to these two and am trying to decide which makes more sense if I'm going to ROM it anyway.
Thanks again everyone!
650 usd for a op 9 pro? I'll take it. IMO no phones are better in this price range. It's not the best phone but it is expected that it will perform the same if not better with those $1000+ flagship phones.

Alright, I'll try and wait for the Ultra
I've owned my 9 Pro for about 4 months now. I have very mixed feelings about it.
For me, the pluses:
Unlockable bootloader with good third-party ROM support.
Nice screen, decent camera.
Wireless charging
The minuses:
Buggy factory ROM's. The switchover to Android 12 and a ColorOS-based build was a disaster. ColorOS is just not in the same league as OxygenOS as far as polish or capabilities. It lost most of the nice touches that made OxygenOS good. And the new team is doing a mediocre job of staying on top of security patches. It is now the end of February, and my phone is still at January 1, 2022 security patch level.
No SD-card slot.
I think I'd still pick the OnePlus over a Google phone. Google has had extensive hardware issues, and their customer service is supremely awful.
And I'd pick it over Samsung. Samsung is actively hostile toward unlocked bootloaders and custom ROM's. They also have a lengthy history of battery problems - the Galaxy Note 8 was not an aberration, merely the most severe.
Motorola/Lenovo makes decent hardware, but are completely falling down on updates. My wife's One Action is only 15 months old, and is still running Android 10 at a Nov 1, 2021 patch level. Supposedly the premise of the whole "Android One" program was that it would make it easier for the OEM's to issue timely updates and upgrades. Doesn't seem to be working.
To sum it up: The OnePlus is not great, but in the US market, it's still slightly better than the alternatives.
I bought a 256gb/12gb in mint condition for $550 USD that should be here tomorrow. I almost gave up on the idea but then saw the price and figured I'd give it a shot.
I looked forward to trying it out! Now to decide which ROM. LOS, Derp, Nameless or Stag. It's a fun problem I've missed having.
Thanks for all of the input, it helped a lot actually.
Yes. definitely. I just sold 8T model and bought 9 Pro for a good price. I will stick with Android 11 as long as I can, because IMHO A12 is childish and awful looking (especially these big fonts).

yes, i bought the same way, for similar price, it's worth it. you save money and there are no performance differences or use signs.
just make sure the seller is reputable and you will be fine, for me warranties failed me more than resellers. pro phones usually cost too much and aren't worth the cash unless you find sucha discount from resellers, which phones are rarely used and justa s good as factory. i always choose a physical seller so if there was an issue, have them located, AliExpress is not trustworthy.
about the phone, its very good. the main problem is the default ROM which isnt good at all. on the ohter hand, its easier to flash a custom ROM on OnePlus than almost any brand out there, and this will fix all your bugs, double battery time, half internet data consumption, refresh rate and overall performance. totally recommended
EDIT: i see you bought it for just 550$, which is even better. at that price is definitely even more worth it.
I've purchased a renewed OnePlus 9 Pro from Amazon and will try it out. However, I am not committed to keeping the device yet. My concerns are likely similar to many: ColorOS as a replacement for OOS. I also have reservations about purchasing phones from country-controlled corporations. However, this is personal preference and no offense to others. Any input to the survey would be appreciated.

I have just last week bought a new OP 9 Pro for an amount equivalent to $580 roughly. I had OOS out of the box and now ver.11.2.10.10 after updating and not ColorOS. Based on the usage of about 3 days, I am happy with my purchase. No overheating or other bugs noticed so far . I had a OP 3 before for 6 years.

You're on OOS11, that's why you're happy with it. As long as you're cool being on outdated software on a flagship device, you will probably continue to enjoy it. Everything goes south when OOS12 comes into the equation though.

I am yet to read about the issues with OOS12. Once I do, I will decide about moving to it or blocking it. I had A11 custom ROM on my OP 3 and I am happy with A11. I am not mad about upgrading just for the sake of it. My philosophy is why meddle with it if it is running and performing to my satisfaction.
Anyway thanks for the warning!
OnePLus 9 Pro is still a Awesome phone.
On colorOS you will have notification bug, because notigication is made to work on chinese app/market. Not google. And clock alarm did not ring if the phone is power off (this is a problem. I have to wake up at 05.30 for work & i like to keep the phone off at night ).
On OxygeOS i did not have any issue on 12 or 12.1, but i did not root, unlock botloader.
I've been rocking OP9P le2125(which is my first OP) for about 5-6 months and I don't regret it whatsoever.
I Never gave oos, nor coloros a chance so can't say much about stock firmware besides reverting back to stock due to user error flashing this n that aimlessly.
I've always been a custom rom kinda guy ever since I discovered rooting existed many moons ago. The XDA forum is thriving with copius amounts of stable and actively maintained roms. Makes me feel like a kid in a candy store!
Forgive me once, for I'm getting a bit off course of this threads original topic.
IMO, the op9p is still a fantastic choice overall. My reasoning for buying op9p has easily been justified and continues to appease my andriod flasholism sort of speak lol.
We have just bought one each. Replacing our Xiaomi Mi 11. Even though these phone of the same time...and chipset, this phone is hugely better in every way. It feels new, fast and fresh, even though they're both SD888.
Antutu score shoe only a small jump...but everything is slick. Battery life is better. In fact, on these phones, battery life is improved by leaving 120hz on. The reason....adaptive refresh rate. When needed...the refresh rate drops to 1hz. Leave it is 60hz....and it is locked to 60hz.
We have the 12GB, 256 GB version,EU.
Its absolutely worth it. Plenty of ROMs if that's your thing and the stock firmware is really good.
I came from the Galaxy S20 with their bloated One UI and don't regret getting the OP9 Pro at all

Q: Which custom rom has the most comprehensive functionality for OP9? (e.g. everything or most everything works without work-arounds or hacks)
Off-topic:
My P6P has been underwhelming with connectivity issues so I am considering jumping ship to a used/renewed device.
Off-off-topic:
I tried a new S22+ but sent it back. Even though it is a beautiful well made device, the largest display and font size settings do not adjust the status bar font size. This is trivial to most but a must-have for me due to my sh1tty vision + I hate using the magnifying app.
Even further off-topic:
In the past 2 weeks, I broke two phone displays while traveling on holiday = vacation in US = Without insurance which I have never forgone on a device since 2011. I have never broken a phone or display going way back to 1999 flip phones (read old man). As such, I was way overdue, I guess.
Again thanks for the feedback and to those who hit the survey.

I couldn't tell you about RoMs. Personally, I find OxygenOS 12 to be perfectly ok. It is slick....and nearly stock. I have rooted mine with Magisk and removed some bits and pieces....but mostly I root to install Adaway....which is a must for me.
I think you will be happy with stock.

StagOS 12.1 is incredible. I have zero desire to go back to stock. The only major issue it has is that after a reboot, the microphone and in-call volume control don't work right on my 9 until I make a call and engage and then disengage the speakerphone once. It works fine after that and hopefully this bug will be fixed soon as it's one of the first to be based on OOS12 firmware and it will take time to fully sort out. I have been running it for a few days and the battery life is insane and no sluggish performance like OOS because the SoC throttle isn't in this kernel.
I never really messed with font sizes on stock but StagOS is like Pixelized AOSP and I just tested and can confirm that both font and UI size adjustments increase the size of the font in the status bar.
Sorry for your luck with the broken screens! I have yet to do that going back to my first phones - a cheap Cricket Audiovox I had for a few days, a Nokia 5190 my mom gave me, and the Nokia 3390 Gold I bought because it had AOL Instant Messenger back in 2001, so I stopped getting insurance too. I know it's probably just a matter of time but I do put a Spigen Tough Armor on every phone I get for those times dropping the phone happens and so far, it's been more than enough.

FYI, I have had two GTIs in my lifetime. 1984 and 1997 VR6.
The '84 was spectacular fun. I got so many speeding tickets. It was unbelievably nimble.

Thank you for checking the font size in status bar! I am shocked (not really) that S22 doesn't adjust. I had the Note9 which I loved but it had the same issue with OneUI 2.0 and hoped they had changed this.
I need to get comfy with custom ROMs again. It has been so long since I used one as my daily.

Flashing ROMs gets addictive lol. If I had a 9 Pro, I would be flashing it all of the time because of the huge wealth of ROMs that were ported for the 9 Pro and not the 9.

Let it be known though that if you choose to go custom, one major thing you won't be able to have is the oos camera. Decent amount of ppl stay stock or even revert back to stock just to have it. However, there are plenty of alternatives. Along with the plethora of roms available, so is an abundance of gcam(google camera) mods. Other than that, really just minor bugs here and there(purely my opinion). that tend to get addressed fairly quickly thx to the amazing minds and talents of the devs, builders, maintaners, etc... That create such Magisk us end users get to experience. The support within the op9p community is nothing short of amazing.
I'd recommend maybe surfin op9p Telegram channels to get more insight of the community and just how active it truly is.
#1 option was closest for me.
WARNING:
Highly Opinionated Content follows (LOL)
I would say so (worth buying it in 2022) because it has 2X the storage of the 10 Pro model supported in US and 12GB RAM (vs. 8GB), a metal frame (vs. a much more accidentally foldable/crunchable plastic one...) and couple other things. Snapdragon 888 is still a high end processor. But to each their own. I studied differences hard between 9 Pro and 10 Pro (and few other mfgr's models) and decision was easy for me.
Before I had even decided on which phone (or brand) I wanted, good custom ROM's support was a non-negotiable. Especially LineageOS for my own reasons.
As far as camera quality I am one of those "weirdos" that thinks if you want a pro photographer quality digital camera THEN BUY A PRO PHOTOGRAPHER QUALITY DIGITAL CAMERA... don't expect your smartphone to be one or you are just going to be disappointed.
Yes that is just my opinion but I've seen a lot of sales hype over the years -- and at the end of the day it comes down to how well a phone's cameras are supported even by the vendor's own software developers. So don't hold your breath -- and even more so, don't expect android developers who can only "make" a few bucks per license sold and compete in the app market to come to your rescue and support your phone mfgr's choice of camera sensors any better than the mfgrs themselves do. It is truly great and amazing how well so many independent Android camera software developers support so many different phone models when they can, and the open development platform is one of the reasons I will always choose Android over the others -- but my point is the indie camera software devs do not always have great incentive or an uninhibited shot at doing so. Sometimes the camera hardware is very deliberately just a black box...
I am glad this phone's cameras have some decent software support options (stock OOS or otherwise) but I am not surprised there is basically nothing that supports them perfectly. This isn't my first flagship model lacking in the camera software support department.... our last phones were LG V20's...
In my opinion you just have to decide whether a phone's price is worth only mediocre camera support even if it has high end camera sensors. That is usually going to be the case. AT BEST. Because the hardware vendor is most likely going to "move on" before you want them to.
(because we continue to reward this type of business model and development model with more business, ie, we tolerate it and keep buying more of their unfinished products).
I'm just being realistic.
We ran V20's for as long as we did (~4 years) for their other features, which basically no longer exist in newly manufactured phones. Like a removable/replaceable battery, headphone jack onboard, etc.
And the sooner you figure out your phone's cameras aren't there for YOUR enjoyment the better off you are gonna be...
But if you want a brand new one and you haven't pulled trigger yet, you better hurry, or somebody is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank...

Is there any custom ROM that works?
Tried multiple, but I have problems with recording audio.
Equal to no sound on snapchat and camera recording.
To OP:
I were very pleased with OnePlus 8 Pro, but I cracked it and had to buy a OnePlus 9 Pro. Worst thing after android 12 came. Had some problems on 11, but its messy on 12. Even considering apple for next phone.
If i were to buy today, I would have bought samsung even knowing of all the bloatware.

Use the OOS11-based StagOS until the C.48 ROMs get fixed. The new firmware always poses new problems but I am sure they will get sorted quickly. The OOS11-based StagOS was great too though.
It's too bad that the fix I found for my microphone and speaker issues on my 9 doesn't work for the 9 Pro. Whenever I reboot, I just have to load the stock dialer, make a call, turn the speakerphone on, and turn it back off, then everything works fine on StagOS C.48. Unfortunately when I told someone with a 9 Pro to try it, they said it didn't work.
Hi,
I have P5 right now and it works fine, Is it worth to buy in that point of time P6Pro even though that in october suppose to come a new pixel? and also with the problem that he had?
Thanks
Hi @I7210I,
This seems like a Question thread (the default), rather than a General thread. You should change it back.
In answer to your question, I'd say if you find the Pixel 6 Pro cheaply enough, sure, buy it. Recently I saw news of sub-$300 Pixel 6 Pros on sale somewhere.
If you're going to pay full price or near full price (or monthly installments that total up to near full price), then I'd suggest just waiting.
Thank you,
The price I can get is 830 USD for the 256GB and 640 for the 128 GB
Personally, I would wait then, although I would fully expect to pay more than that for the Pixel 7 Pro. Since the Google Store is directly selling the SIM-unlocked (bootloader unlockable) 128 GB Pixel 6 Pro for $649 (at one point in the process it says $899, but the next step shows it back at $649), and you can get the 512 GB unlocked P6P for $849 direct from the Google Store, I would first determine what size you want. If 128 GB is enough for you, the $640 from your source isn't horrible, but if you need more storage than 128 GB, I think I would hold off until the Pixel 7 Pro even though you will definitely be paying more than $850 for any Pixel 7 Pro.
So I probably didn't make the decision any easier, but...
Also, I didn't stop using my Pixel 1 until a few months after it received its last update in December 2019 or so.
And the release date of the pixel 7 is right?
and about the p6, is the bugs are fixed with the updates?
thanks

I don't know what the release date of the Pixel 7 is. It is probably either next month or as you said, more likely October/late October. October 19, 2021 was when they had the first-day pre-orders for the Pixel 6. It was a nightmare. Their site couldn't handle the load, but eventually maybe five hours later I was able to pre-order. Got my wife's and my factory unlocked Pixel 6 Pro 512 GB models in late October.

The only noticeable bugs I remember ever having were a slight problem with using gestures with third-party Launcher apps, but it didn't cause me a problem that often and was always recoverable. I know others have had other bugs but I was one of the lucky ones.
I haven't noticed the issue the last less than two days I've had 13 Stable installed but that isn't really long enough to tell if the issue is still around.
Personally, I think Android 13 is much smoother than Android 12, and when I reboot the phone, the home screen loads noticeably faster the first time I unlock it. I've been withholding full judgment one way or another on 13 because it takes time to observe all the overall differences objectively, and sometimes there is also a placebo effect with a new shiny Android version, but my general impression is that Android 13 compared to 12 is like Android 5.11 compared to 5. But honestly not as big a difference as the 5->5.11 changes - just reminiscent of that situation, although Android 5.x was when I was still using non-Google OEM phones.
You're welcome! Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
And we said nothing on the competitors (S22 ultra) in front of the pixel 6 pro...
So everything is relayed on rumors about the release dates...
The price sounds good , and you said you was lucky about the 6 pro so that's one thing that might be scary

i has hear several rumors about an early realease by september, with official ETA for early october... you could wait a little bit, however the price for the P6/P6P will surely down with the new ones on market, si it could be a good time for to buy at reasonable price.
I'd wait. The Pixel 7 looks like it could solve a lot of issues and shortcomings with the Pixel 6.
The Pixel 6 is getting harder to find as Google apparently wants the inventory gone.
If you're in the US, you could get a Pixel 6 Pro for $0 down from T-Mobile on the JOD program and upgrade to a regular Pixel 7 for free (Pro probably $150-$300 down?) when it comes out.
So as far as I see, the p7 pro is behind the corner, I'm in Europe till 7 of September, I hope that I will have good news till than...
anyhow, looks like its better to wait than if I understand, also the thing with the inventory is right
