I've purchased a renewed OnePlus 9 Pro from Amazon and will try it out. However, I am not committed to keeping the device yet. My concerns are likely similar to many: ColorOS as a replacement for OOS. I also have reservations about purchasing phones from country-controlled corporations. However, this is personal preference and no offense to others. Any input to the survey would be appreciated.
If you're not going to use a custom ROM, run far away.

I have just last week bought a new OP 9 Pro for an amount equivalent to $580 roughly. I had OOS out of the box and now ver.11.2.10.10 after updating and not ColorOS. Based on the usage of about 3 days, I am happy with my purchase. No overheating or other bugs noticed so far . I had a OP 3 before for 6 years.

You're on OOS11, that's why you're happy with it. As long as you're cool being on outdated software on a flagship device, you will probably continue to enjoy it. Everything goes south when OOS12 comes into the equation though.

I am yet to read about the issues with OOS12. Once I do, I will decide about moving to it or blocking it. I had A11 custom ROM on my OP 3 and I am happy with A11. I am not mad about upgrading just for the sake of it. My philosophy is why meddle with it if it is running and performing to my satisfaction.

OnePLus 9 Pro is still a Awesome phone.
On colorOS you will have notification bug, because notigication is made to work on chinese app/market. Not google. And clock alarm did not ring if the phone is power off (this is a problem. I have to wake up at 05.30 for work & i like to keep the phone off at night ).
On OxygeOS i did not have any issue on 12 or 12.1, but i did not root, unlock botloader.
I've been rocking OP9P le2125(which is my first OP) for about 5-6 months and I don't regret it whatsoever.
I Never gave oos, nor coloros a chance so can't say much about stock firmware besides reverting back to stock due to user error flashing this n that aimlessly.
I've always been a custom rom kinda guy ever since I discovered rooting existed many moons ago. The XDA forum is thriving with copius amounts of stable and actively maintained roms. Makes me feel like a kid in a candy store!
Forgive me once, for I'm getting a bit off course of this threads original topic.
IMO, the op9p is still a fantastic choice overall. My reasoning for buying op9p has easily been justified and continues to appease my andriod flasholism sort of speak lol.
We have just bought one each. Replacing our Xiaomi Mi 11. Even though these phone of the same time...and chipset, this phone is hugely better in every way. It feels new, fast and fresh, even though they're both SD888.
Antutu score shoe only a small jump...but everything is slick. Battery life is better. In fact, on these phones, battery life is improved by leaving 120hz on. The reason....adaptive refresh rate. When needed...the refresh rate drops to 1hz. Leave it is 60hz....and it is locked to 60hz.
We have the 12GB, 256 GB version,EU.
Its absolutely worth it. Plenty of ROMs if that's your thing and the stock firmware is really good.
I came from the Galaxy S20 with their bloated One UI and don't regret getting the OP9 Pro at all

I couldn't tell you about RoMs. Personally, I find OxygenOS 12 to be perfectly ok. It is slick....and nearly stock. I have rooted mine with Magisk and removed some bits and pieces....but mostly I root to install Adaway....which is a must for me.
I think you will be happy with stock.

StagOS 12.1 is incredible. I have zero desire to go back to stock. The only major issue it has is that after a reboot, the microphone and in-call volume control don't work right on my 9 until I make a call and engage and then disengage the speakerphone once. It works fine after that and hopefully this bug will be fixed soon as it's one of the first to be based on OOS12 firmware and it will take time to fully sort out. I have been running it for a few days and the battery life is insane and no sluggish performance like OOS because the SoC throttle isn't in this kernel.
I never really messed with font sizes on stock but StagOS is like Pixelized AOSP and I just tested and can confirm that both font and UI size adjustments increase the size of the font in the status bar.
Sorry for your luck with the broken screens! I have yet to do that going back to my first phones - a cheap Cricket Audiovox I had for a few days, a Nokia 5190 my mom gave me, and the Nokia 3390 Gold I bought because it had AOL Instant Messenger back in 2001, so I stopped getting insurance too. I know it's probably just a matter of time but I do put a Spigen Tough Armor on every phone I get for those times dropping the phone happens and so far, it's been more than enough.

Thank you for checking the font size in status bar! I am shocked (not really) that S22 doesn't adjust. I had the Note9 which I loved but it had the same issue with OneUI 2.0 and hoped they had changed this.
I need to get comfy with custom ROMs again. It has been so long since I used one as my daily.

Flashing ROMs gets addictive lol. If I had a 9 Pro, I would be flashing it all of the time because of the huge wealth of ROMs that were ported for the 9 Pro and not the 9.

Let it be known though that if you choose to go custom, one major thing you won't be able to have is the oos camera. Decent amount of ppl stay stock or even revert back to stock just to have it. However, there are plenty of alternatives. Along with the plethora of roms available, so is an abundance of gcam(google camera) mods. Other than that, really just minor bugs here and there(purely my opinion). that tend to get addressed fairly quickly thx to the amazing minds and talents of the devs, builders, maintaners, etc... That create such Magisk us end users get to experience. The support within the op9p community is nothing short of amazing.
I'd recommend maybe surfin op9p Telegram channels to get more insight of the community and just how active it truly is.
#1 option was closest for me.

I would say so (worth buying it in 2022) because it has 2X the storage of the 10 Pro model supported in US and 12GB RAM (vs. 8GB), a metal frame (vs. a much more accidentally foldable/crunchable plastic one...) and couple other things. Snapdragon 888 is still a high end processor. But to each their own. I studied differences hard between 9 Pro and 10 Pro (and few other mfgr's models) and decision was easy for me.
Before I had even decided on which phone (or brand) I wanted, good custom ROM's support was a non-negotiable. Especially LineageOS for my own reasons.
As far as camera quality I am one of those "weirdos" that thinks if you want a pro photographer quality digital camera THEN BUY A PRO PHOTOGRAPHER QUALITY DIGITAL CAMERA... don't expect your smartphone to be one or you are just going to be disappointed.
Yes that is just my opinion but I've seen a lot of sales hype over the years -- and at the end of the day it comes down to how well a phone's cameras are supported even by the vendor's own software developers. So don't hold your breath -- and even more so, don't expect android developers who can only "make" a few bucks per license sold and compete in the app market to come to your rescue and support your phone mfgr's choice of camera sensors any better than the mfgrs themselves do. It is truly great and amazing how well so many independent Android camera software developers support so many different phone models when they can, and the open development platform is one of the reasons I will always choose Android over the others -- but my point is the indie camera software devs do not always have great incentive or an uninhibited shot at doing so. Sometimes the camera hardware is very deliberately just a black box...
I am glad this phone's cameras have some decent software support options (stock OOS or otherwise) but I am not surprised there is basically nothing that supports them perfectly. This isn't my first flagship model lacking in the camera software support department.... our last phones were LG V20's...
In my opinion you just have to decide whether a phone's price is worth only mediocre camera support even if it has high end camera sensors. That is usually going to be the case. AT BEST. Because the hardware vendor is most likely going to "move on" before you want them to.
(because we continue to reward this type of business model and development model with more business, ie, we tolerate it and keep buying more of their unfinished products).
I'm just being realistic.
We ran V20's for as long as we did (~4 years) for their other features, which basically no longer exist in newly manufactured phones. Like a removable/replaceable battery, headphone jack onboard, etc.
And the sooner you figure out your phone's cameras aren't there for YOUR enjoyment the better off you are gonna be...
But if you want a brand new one and you haven't pulled trigger yet, you better hurry, or somebody is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank...

Tried multiple, but I have problems with recording audio.
Equal to no sound on snapchat and camera recording.
To OP:
I were very pleased with OnePlus 8 Pro, but I cracked it and had to buy a OnePlus 9 Pro. Worst thing after android 12 came. Had some problems on 11, but its messy on 12. Even considering apple for next phone.
If i were to buy today, I would have bought samsung even knowing of all the bloatware.

Use the OOS11-based StagOS until the C.48 ROMs get fixed. The new firmware always poses new problems but I am sure they will get sorted quickly. The OOS11-based StagOS was great too though.
It's too bad that the fix I found for my microphone and speaker issues on my 9 doesn't work for the 9 Pro. Whenever I reboot, I just have to load the stock dialer, make a call, turn the speakerphone on, and turn it back off, then everything works fine on StagOS C.48. Unfortunately when I told someone with a 9 Pro to try it, they said it didn't work.

I don't know about you but my answer is NO. This thing did not live up to my expectations at all. The specs read like they are all premium but the device is low quality at best. Using the device is an actual nightmare. The camera is a blurry mess, the GPS never locks, the file system is crap and freezes up when you try to load things. I bought into the gimmick and I lost... Anybody want to buy this piece of junk for a low price so I can buy an iphone and just have something that works?
OH... the bluetooth constantly bugs out... another thing that annoys me every single day.
I like the phone just don't love it. My Pixel 2 XL still feels better when I pick it up. What chaps my hide is when my photos disappear or when my phone app just disappears when I'm talking to someone.
The 7T is just perfect. But I won't buy newer phones if they have display a la "Samsung Edge". I hate the curved one.
I found the 5T to be super premium build quality. It's amazing. The Pixel 2 XL I bought at the same time was absolute junk. It had a noticeably poorer build quality and a really bad OLED screen.
I am getting a 7T Friday and will see if they maintained the great build quality (although I had an 8 Pro I returned for a week and it had excellent build quality like my 5T). I can't see where the OP is coming from regarding it not feeling premium? Is it just an OS perspective? I only ran OOS on my 5T for a couple weeks before switching exclusively to AOSP.

Absolutely yes! I find my 7T is perfect and worthy for the price paid. I don't have any issues or hardware errors.

I don't know actually. I find the OnePlus phones to be still very good, but I'm kinda disappointed on how the team is struggling to keep them updated since they began to release lot of phones every year.
Plus, I like the improvements they made with the camera on the new OP8 Pro, but I want a phone that is totally comparable to iPhones/Galaxy phone in that area if I have to spend 900+ euros.
The 7T is literally perfect.
This is my first OP phone and I'd say - yes. I hope there'll be new OP phone without curved display.
If they release reasonably priced phones with flat screens. The price for the 8-series is too much considering it's a tencent phone.

I would gladly pay $1000 for a flat screened 8 Pro. But it doesn't exist and the S20+, even ignoring the terrible OS skin, is $1350 from Samsung unlocked. That is just too much for basically the same phone and a crippled software experience. And the S20+ has a curved screen as well! Although not as bad as the 8/8 Pro.

For me 7T is almost perfect. I love it. If only battery and average stock camera indoor pic were better. I love to tinker my phone so with gcam , camera issues are solved ?. Since I don't game , so battery is enough for me to last full day with 20% left. YMMV.
I went from OP2 to HTC U11 to OP7T. Have no regrets. Will purchase OP9T if there are no better alternative. I change my phone every 2 years.

Yes, there are as far as I know just 2 ROMs out there... Neither work with MMS on Verizon.
If you have another recommendation would love to hear it- for me just looking for stability and speed.

Yep, had three... OnePlus One, 6T, 7T (bought the 7T when the price went down, sold the 6T).
I don't buy them when they first are released. I wait until a new one is about to be released, then pick up the previous years model

There are three ROMS available right now. I would recommend Omni for speed and stability, but not sure about your specific use-case.
IDK, no matter what setting I pick, the ringtone for google messages does not work and the do not auto update option in playstore does not work. This is only an issue on the 7T.
Well after being excited to get the Pixel 6 Pro with all the hype of best pixel phone in years, i have returned the phone after finding it disappointing. Probably the phone i have been most disappointed with ever, So i have gone back to my Huawei P30 Pro
main issues are battery life, after finding the phone struggling to get through a day on a charge, after googling and finding turning off the 5g and 120hz display improves battery life. WHAT the main features of the phone drain the battery too much, battery life on P30 is 2 days for me constantly (i know peoples usage will vary), but after Lumia phones and Huawei it was like going back to Iphone 3 days barely getting 24hrs on a charge.
also the UI is terrible, how is this an improvement the notification area with the huge tiles take up so much room that you have to scroll to the right to see most of the shortcuts etc. P30 is much more intuitive and fewer steps to do the same action
The Google search bar/ assistant and clock can't be moved or resized so much for customising android, none of these restrictions on P30
Colour theming what a joke to the point of being pointless couldn't pick the colour i wanted and the choice of 4 colour LOL, P30 has a huge colour theming section and is easy pick what colour you want and away to go

You really should have waited a bit to try a pure aosp build. I found the google [bloat|spy]ware to be bad enough that I couldn't put my sim card in it because it was completely unusable. Running pure aosp built from source and its like a dream.
Under very heavy use since about 7am this morning (its now after 3), I'm still over 70% battery, including leaving 120hz enabled. Not 5g though, my carrier only has LTE for now.
Some of your complaints don't really matter. The quick settings pane for example is a feature of android 12, not the google build, so no matter who sells you the phone, you'll have that eventually anyway.

i had no where near that battery time, fully charged at 9:00am out on the mtb for 6 hrs with pics on the way normal use after that by 8:00 pm 15%
The UI is just not as intuitive, take restricting apps working in the background pixel you have to go to each app individually, P30 the settings for all apps are on one page, just simpler

Note 9 owner
Everyone knows the 10 lineup was literally a downgrade in all the ways literally a minor cpu bump and a 3rd camera.
You lost iris scanner, spo2 ,heart rate , headphone jack and sd card slot on certain models.
It was also the mark of samsung making like 4 3/4 different models of phone which had worse hard ware than previous versions unless you get the top top end.
For example the fact screens on the note10 itself are worse than 9.
It literally started the mark of samsung killing off the note line with the making it a glorified Samsung Galaxy with a pen in which case then note 20ultra is worse that the galaxy 20 ultra in a lot of ways.
It's not even ahead of software updates since the note 10 lite uses the same chipset as the s9/n9 so it's easily ported to them.
So yeah the fact you said that means you literally have no clue on the state of it.
Also you think Samsung will simplify it gl they literally need to make a new ui every year because they can't do it right it's improving but still , if you don't like stock android get different launcher.
At least we know we going to get software support for a long time and direct also support

As you stated in so many posts you have 2 Note 10's so I can only assume that your opinion is pure speculation! Did a clean install and don't have any issues at all. When the Note 20 Ultra first came a lot of members were having issues with it to because of importing data and apps from an old phone, once they did a FDR all the problems magically disappeared! Just saying...........................

I read a lot. The Pixel UI... well each to his own is the best I can say.
The N20U has display issues caused by the variable frequency, the N10+ color rendering exceeds the N20U, S21U and likely the P6pro.
I have extremely good color perception, top 1% so I find color aberrations annoying with displays. The 10+ is near spot on even after two years of heavy usage. I'll do a color test between the new and old one to see how tight the calibration is just for kicks sometime.
The N20U is running on R, enough said.
Some of both have 5G, not worth the increased battery usage. This problem persists in most of the newest devices. Variable rate displays, 5G and especially scooped storage are not mature technologies and continue to underperform.

Here's what a stock N10+ Snapdragon/P variant did just today with a 4300mAh battery. About one hour is watching utube vids, the rest browsing. The N10+ isn't even breaking a sweat...

It seems to cut costs, Google went with outdated and inferior parts and made some strange sacrifices. Samsung always gives it's competitors last year's display tech. Android 12 feels largely incomplete, much like hipster aesthetics were put before functional changes. I have been excited to get a flagship that has a clean base, can be rooted and built upon, but if the hardware is subpar, it may not be worth it.
With Samsung phones, I've debloated and modded almost every element to my liking without even needing root. Custom themes, custom fonts, custom clock styles and placement, always on display scheduling, ability to hide the navigation bar, and endless GoodLock modules to fine tune the UI are all things stock Android 12 can't do. That said, it's always bugged me that Samsung phones have roughly 300 preloaded system apps, where stock Android has about 100. I'm debating whether to cancel the P6P preorder and wait for the S22 Ultra.

I was comparing my 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10. The 10 variant has dozens of small apks that show on the package disabler, but they're not bloatware. Samsung deliberately moded Android 10 to make it more user friendly and functional. It runs very well.
The S21 isn't anything I want but it shreds the P6pro.
However both are having display issues. I would at least wait for the dust to settle...
Hold out until Samsung gets their act together again if you can... it may take a year or two. Latter 2022 or perhaps 2023. I wouldn't hold my breath... it may take until 2024 to arise from the ashes of mediocre and lack of features.

Keep in mind you can't unlock the bootloader on recent Samsung phones without breaking the camera completely. I had nothing against them until now but this is major BS on their part.

To be fair, on a Samsung, one doesn't really need root. So much debloating can be done using ADB. Many developers have found ways to utilize Samsung's theme engine and font engine to customize the phone however one prefers. I installed an AOSP theme using Hex Installer that made the UI look 95% stock.

I'm running 2 stock N10+'s using Samsung Galaxy mods, a package disabler, a firewall and heavily optimizing them.
That's all you need... they run great and look/function exactly how I want them too.
No plain Janes here... some assembly required.

I'm thinking of getting a 9 pro and was wondering, would you buy it again if you had your current experience to help make your decision? I've found a few around $650, used. I'm not worried about insane camera quality. A good screen, solid performance, fast charging and being able to root and ROM it are what is drawing me in. I loved the 7 Pro I had but I've seen some say they don't think anything later has lived up to that and the quality has degraded. It nearly pushed me back to a 7 pro but I take it with a grain of salt, figured I'd ask here and see from some current users.
As for ROM's, /e/ apparently works. And Lineage. Does the color OS merge cause any new privacy concerns? I don't know a lot of how it has progressed, to be honest. I'm planning to ROM and de-google as much as I can.
Anyone who's used a PIxel 5a, might it be a better solution, cheaper?

Honestly if I could go back, I wouldve bought a Galaxy s21 ultra. Android 12 is still so buggy for me and I'm not keen on OnePlus merging with oppo. I love OOS.
Maybe,. It still has been solid, like screen is beautiful, w/ refresh rate. It has the thirty minute 0-100 charge and forty minute wireless charge. It sounds good and looks good so maybe so.
One thing is the fast charging is 65 watts; which I liked the 35 watt on the 8 pro.
One of the drawbacks was the US unlocked version came with one sim slot, instead of two, like it should of been.
Also when the few updates were good , unlocked version usually only received the incremental version on Google server; but the last one, I just flashed in TWRP (which has been a beauty).
So all in all still a solid device with the microg and Gapps option.
If the Samsung can be unlocked, etc, and looking like it will be supported then maybe that might be the way. I've been looking at them the last few years and I really like that foldable phone that opens to a tablet.
The last one I personally owned was the S3 and that was the days. I remember it coming out and being like, "WOW". That was the CyanogenMod era for me on that S3.
Anyway I hope it works out in what you decide. One thing I think by the way is "how easy is it to recover, and which method? How easy to brick, etc?

Yes. I would buy 9 Pro.
One of the best screen on the market. Hardware, same. Charging on Oneplus is awesome. When i buy my phone battery was 0. I charged with my phone Off in 27 minutes, 0-100 %. Than i buy wireless 50w, crazy fast too. I put my phone on the stand . Then i must have my eyes on the watch. It goes to 100% in no time, if i let it.
About ColorOS... Many people forget that Oppo Fiind 7 came out at the same time with OnePlus One (almost same phone). Oppo works on is own processor. Oppo made a foldable already.
Color OS works fine (on my European model phone). I'm glad that we don't have that Stupid cartoon that i see on Pixel 6 phones. Looks llike is made by a 3 years old kid.
Oxygen OS was Awesome, but unfortunately google f*cked up this great OS.
Camera on Oneplus 9 pro is good. I like xPan mode, especially.

exactly how I feel too.
Yes I would, I'd make sure I know the origin of the phone, I.e. Eu, USA TMobile, India, China. I would then find out which rom it has flashed. Then use these to compare which country you're using it in, to make sure there's no surprise. Also I'd stick with a11 or a12 on a rom you like. My spec's are in the screenshot and I'm in the UK.
I would buy the 9 Pro again, but I'm going to try the 10 Pro when Global model available!

650 usd for a op 9 pro? I'll take it. IMO no phones are better in this price range. It's not the best phone but it is expected that it will perform the same if not better with those $1000+ flagship phones.

7 pro was great ! Mine was blue. NO front camera in display ! Back then Oxygen OS was awesome. And everything was easy : root-unroot-twrp-MSM.
But the screen is Too Curved. And soon you will get no updates.

I've owned my 9 Pro for about 4 months now. I have very mixed feelings about it.
For me, the pluses:
Unlockable bootloader with good third-party ROM support.
Nice screen, decent camera.
Wireless charging
The minuses:
Buggy factory ROM's. The switchover to Android 12 and a ColorOS-based build was a disaster. ColorOS is just not in the same league as OxygenOS as far as polish or capabilities. It lost most of the nice touches that made OxygenOS good. And the new team is doing a mediocre job of staying on top of security patches. It is now the end of February, and my phone is still at January 1, 2022 security patch level.
No SD-card slot.
I think I'd still pick the OnePlus over a Google phone. Google has had extensive hardware issues, and their customer service is supremely awful.
And I'd pick it over Samsung. Samsung is actively hostile toward unlocked bootloaders and custom ROM's. They also have a lengthy history of battery problems - the Galaxy Note 8 was not an aberration, merely the most severe.
Motorola/Lenovo makes decent hardware, but are completely falling down on updates. My wife's One Action is only 15 months old, and is still running Android 10 at a Nov 1, 2021 patch level. Supposedly the premise of the whole "Android One" program was that it would make it easier for the OEM's to issue timely updates and upgrades. Doesn't seem to be working.
To sum it up: The OnePlus is not great, but in the US market, it's still slightly better than the alternatives.
I bought a 256gb/12gb in mint condition for $550 USD that should be here tomorrow. I almost gave up on the idea but then saw the price and figured I'd give it a shot.
I looked forward to trying it out! Now to decide which ROM. LOS, Derp, Nameless or Stag. It's a fun problem I've missed having.

Yes. definitely. I just sold 8T model and bought 9 Pro for a good price. I will stick with Android 11 as long as I can, because IMHO A12 is childish and awful looking (especially these big fonts).

yes, i bought the same way, for similar price, it's worth it. you save money and there are no performance differences or use signs.
just make sure the seller is reputable and you will be fine, for me warranties failed me more than resellers. pro phones usually cost too much and aren't worth the cash unless you find sucha discount from resellers, which phones are rarely used and justa s good as factory. i always choose a physical seller so if there was an issue, have them located, AliExpress is not trustworthy.
about the phone, its very good. the main problem is the default ROM which isnt good at all. on the ohter hand, its easier to flash a custom ROM on OnePlus than almost any brand out there, and this will fix all your bugs, double battery time, half internet data consumption, refresh rate and overall performance. totally recommended
EDIT: i see you bought it for just 550$, which is even better. at that price is definitely even more worth it.
Finally decided to take TMO up on their $800 Trade-In Offer on my P6_Pro & Upgraded to the S22 Ultra 512 gb

So, I was just thinking to myself last night that after they the introduction of the new aggressive security API that detects root and renders my Gpay useless (which is just the beginning) I am finding it less and less worthwhile to have an Android device, which I've had now for 15 years. I use a Mac for computing and I'm beginning to wonder whether I do the same for my phone. I'm so sick of Google's crappy products and customer service. I just might join you before the value of this phone nose dives.

It's out. I posted earlier a link to the discussion on GitHub. Oddly enough, not all users have been affected yet. Then again, that makes sense given the range of variables. I can't even use my craigslist app because I can't pass the newly imposed tests.
I decided to dump the stock rom in favor of Pixel Experience, unrooted. I now have nearly all of the features I want including face unlock and zero problems.

Comments like this amaze me. The implementation of Face Unlock on these ROMs is the same as on cheap Chinese phones. It is not secure and it's a gimmick.
Also, I want a phone that works out of the box. Swapping ROMs gets old fast nowadays and unless one is a developer experimenting, it's not worth the hassle and the bugs for most.
If the camera on the S23 is as good as it promises to be, I'd be done with the P6P. Or go to the iPhone 14 and get the best battery life with everything turned on.
Can't pinpoint when but over the last couple iterations of stock Android it's felt more like changes have been made for the sake of change rather than the benefit of the end user.
This is most apparent on the stock ROM. Everything was designed to be in your face constantly and I hate it so I'm running something else as of late.
I'm still not a fan of the new QS. My Pixel hasn't changed that. It's ugly, it's inconsistent (even on the 13 beta).
The fact of the matter is custom ROMs have always been better than nearly any carrier/OEM variation of Android and it just so happened that as I went back from OnePlus to a Pixel that development for Pixels would totally go down the drain relative to prior models.
That's partially because Google trashed the UI at its core and reversing that would take extensive work that just isn't worth the time.
This is the quickest I have ever gotten kind of annoyed with a device and it's completely unrelated to the hardware. The hardware of the 6, in spite of numerous criticisms, has always been great to me but Android as software is just... Dying in my eyes.
They get away with it as it's still more flexible as a platform than iOS but honestly they can only go so far.
If things don't improve either with 14 next year or with OnePlus doing a complete turn around in software, I'm out. I'll look more into the buggy affairs of Linux smartphones.
I have the luxury of having the 6 pro and the note 20 ultra, so when I am fed up with the six pro being goofy or glitchy I can switch back to that and generally enjoy it but have always been a fan of the nexus, pixel line so no matter how which it is I find myself wanting to come back. Lately considering ditching the 6 pro myself and considering the OP9 pro on special... Flashing 13 beta kind of help. The new visuals seem really cool but definitely made Android auto even quirkier. Maybe I should just consider the rooting and romming stuff again, but haven't really messed up it since maybe my OnePlus 7 pro

The only issue I have with my P6P is how hot it gets when charging, the loss of audio for notifications when I connect to the BT in my work van, the poor radio for both 5G and LTE in weaker signal areas and the wretched battery life
I'm curious to see how P7P is with Android 13, which is how I'll probably go in October when it's released
As an owner of both the S22U and the P6P, I prefer the P6P.

I'm having the same issues plus I can never get a full signal even in a strong signal area where both my tablet and my other phone which is an S22 get a full signal, my previous phone on my other line was a OnePlus 10 Pro. Lost 40% battery in just a couple hours yesterday while getting our daughter moved into her dorm room and I didn't use the phone at all and it got really warm. I also have an issue with really slow data on this phone. I am not a fan of any of that. I like the but hate all the issues.

I don’t really have issues with data speeds. But I’m usually in 5G so I’m pretty solitaire but the problem is if I’m in like one bar 5G, forget about it I can’t load a website. Same thing with one bar of LTE. And the problems I listed are you know, pretty profound. They’re not all bad but the battery life is absolutely horrifying. I’m a tech for Dish Network and if I get you a job with 100% strength and it takes 2 1/2 hours to do the job when I’m done I’m at like 70%.
At the end of the day though, I just can’t buy into Samsung and all that bloat wear. My daughter has an S 22 ultra. It’s a hell of a nice phone call man there’s just so much extra junk on there.
With the release of OxygenOS 13 for the OP9Pro the OxygenOS we know of is dead, since it becomes Color OS and "we take community feedback" is a LiE

OxigenOS or ColorOS Or whatever it is, for me it's the same thing, as long as it's stable and smooth, I don't even care about the system "skins".
I already made the switch to a cstum rom. And lucky me. The Pixels are now available in my country
Oxygen OS 13 is pretty good actually. I've only encountered some minor bugs and the performance is better than I had on OOS11 (I skipped 12 entirely), which is amazing considering it's the first open beta version.
Get an iPhone 14 Pro.

I am still going to have my 9 but I'm trading in my old iPhone 12 Pro Max which results in Best Buy basically paying me $30 to take the 7 Pro after the $200 gift cards and $790 in trade in value. Was kind of a no-brainer.

I have an 11 currently and my 9 Pro. I'm gonna fix the back glass on my 11 and see if I can use it as a trade-in for the 14 Pro, or just buy it outright. Once I found out AppleCare+ allows for unlimited accidental damages, that was a no-brainer for me. I'll still hold onto my 9 Pro for development reasons though. The Pissel 7 Pro is ugly af and Apple has come a long way since the jailbreaking days. Plus the peace-of-mind for AC+ is nice since I work in the construction field. Plus the new design is super sexy to me and the squareness of the device is nice cause it gives me something to grip onto without having to feel like I have to throw a case on it.

I can't do Apple anymore. I switched back to my 12 Pro Max for a couple weeks to see and I just can't do it. The OS is so far behind Android in stock features, let alone the ability for third party apps to add new ones.

I can understand that. It's just sometimes it's nice to have some simplicity. If I have a device that's development friendly like the 9 Pro, it's hard not to tinker and do things with it. It's just when things go wrong, that's when it becomes a pain. When I went from nameless to oos11 then back to nameless, I soft-bricked my device and threw it in a drawer until the weekend came so I had more time to mess with it and used my iPhone 11 in the meantime and it was a breath of fresh air. The OS literally drives me up a wall, but their optimizations both software and hardware are unmatched compared to Android. I'm a features guy when it comes to custom ROMs. To me, oos11 had it all. Once I tried oos12 and found out it didn't have a hex code color picker in customization settings, I went back to oos11. Yes, it's little things like that that make me go back to and earlier version lol.
Not gonna lie, Apple is night and day when it comes to point and shoot photography. Plus the LiDAR scanner would come in handy for work, and Dynamic Island (dumb name) is pretty fricken sweet. I've always been into the design of iPhones, and when they went back to the old form factor, I lost my ****. Plus the matte glass is sexy too lol.
TL;DR: when you want a device to work without having to fiddle with anything, Apple kills it. Especially if you like simple things once in awhile.

Yep, I agree with most of your points. I have lost count of how many times I had to MSM my 9 from messing with it lol. Fortunately OOS13 has been pretty okay even on the first open beta, but unless the 7 Pro has some major issues for me, the OnePlus 9 is going to be relegated to my backup phone.
One thing I will say though - Apple doesn't do point and shoot better than Google. Google's AI makes a massive difference with their camera prowess and it's something they have done right from the start. Even with inferior hardware, the camera in my 3 XL almost always took a better looking photo than my 12 Pro Max unless I tweaked the settings (and who wants to mess with all that, especially with Apple's infuriating camera menu system where half of it is in the Settings app, when they can have a phone that you pull out of your pocket, double tap the power button, snap, and have a great picture the first try 99% of the time) or I had to zoom in while taking it.
The inability to even install Kodi on an iPhone is an issue for me. I shouldn't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to sideload apps onto a device I paid for.
Also, you *STILL* can't space icons however you want on the home screen... >_>

After so many years with OnePlus I know for sure that opo9pro is my last open plus phone. They screwed it.
One of the main reasons that I stick with Oneplus is the Software, Camera, and most importantly the developer support. But things have changed now. Switching ROMs is a hard thing these days. Wiping the entire storage and reinstalling all the apps is time-consuming and irritating.
I just remember the good old days of flashing through TWRP and just restoring all the apps using titanium single-click restores......
Next phone will be most probably an Apple

Honestly digging my new Pixel 7 Pro a lot. For being the first software version, it's far less buggy than my 9 has ever been and I have yet to have a single delayed or missed notification plus the camera is incredible.
