Speaker Imbalance? or by design? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Is it just me? The top speaker seems move vocal heavy, and the bottom and more mids to lows.
And I just hearing things or does anyone else hear this too?
Is this by design I wonder, maybe the speaker, facing up would be better for vocals?
Try it. Cover the speakers one by one with your thumb and listen.

I hear that too. When I rotate the phone, the sound channel changes but the feeling of heaviness always follow the top speaker.
However, when I measure speakers loudness, the volume is quite similar.

Deactivate the Smart Audio and put it to say Movie/Film. Now its even.

I tried and it doesnt really help. However, when I turn on mono mode in Accesibility menu, all kind of sound seems perfectly even on both speakers.

Low 3.5mm Jack output volume?

Hello,
I find that the volume is quite low.
Just bought the phone and output volume was much louder on my previous Atrix and Droid Razr.
Is there some way to increase it?
Yes. Use volume+ or equalizer by smart apps. I double my volume that way. Just search.
Ok.
I downloaded Volume+, but what are the good settings in headset to have a noticeable volume increase?
What did you connect?
With my in-ears, the music is too loud, if i turn volume to max.
If i connect to my car, it's very quiet and there's also no bass.

just increase the volume.
I connected it to my car audio system.
I increased the volume but didn't really noticed any change.
What I'd like is to do is to have more volume along with more bass.
DSP
I think i know what you mean. I use DSPmanager to boost Bass and also high sounds very good.

Here's what you do. Install equalizer, swipe right to custom eq, raise all bands to Max. Go to home screen and play your music.
Be careful you WILL blow something, start with the phone volume at half and increase. You'll have very loud volume now.

[Q] In-call volume with headphones too loud

I'm using the Moray Headphones from Razer with my HTC Desire. They seem to be pretty sensitive regarding to the volume. I can listen to music on one of the lowest settings, but for in-call volume even the lowest setting is too loud to bear.
All the apps that i found in the market just regulate the normal in-call volume, like the buttons on the side during a call. I did not find a way to go below this point. I tried to search for an option that can be set over the /sys parameters, but I had no luck there either.
Has anyone a clue, if there is a way to lower all headphone volumes in general?
I'm using Sandvolts ICS ROM at the moment, but this behavior was the same in all ROMs and Android versions I've ever tried.

Hi,
This is a very unique problem - I usually hear the other way around. I'll take a look into it and see if I can figure out a temporary fix - Stupid question: But does the in-call volume get higher when you raise the volume or is it the same?

It gets louder if I raise the volume. Everything works as expected, it's just that these headphones are too sensitive (or my ears ). If I use some bigger headphones, the loudness range is just normal.
It would be great, if there was a global range adjuster for headphones in android. Then one could boost, or in my case decrease, the overall volume range to a comfortable level.

LG G3 Microphone Sensitivity Issue - Sound distorted

Hello guys,
first off i want to thank everybody sharing their knowledge about the LG G3! I just got mine (D855) and found myself pretty satisfied with this device coming from a Samsung SGS4.
There is one issue i can not seem to find a solution for, the over-sensitive Microphone! No Matter if record a Voice msgs on Whatsapp, a Live Concert via Video or me Playing guitar, i also feel like the MIC Gain is way to high which most of the time leads to a distorted/cracking.
I know there are 2 possible reasons for that:
1. Mic Gain (preamp) is set to a very high value in general, so that the mic captures a too high input level in every app using it (video camera, phone calls, Voice Recorsers etc.)
-> It's a software based issue which needs a fix in the mic gain value's
2. The G3's Mic is just crap, a low-quality mic capsule which handles high impulses very poorly and distorts even BEFORE the signal is amped by the software.
-> Hardware based Issue which afaik can't be fixed.
I know the G2 had similar issues with it's mic picking up sound way to loud. I wonder why there is nobody complaining about the g3 yet. To me this is kind of a deal breaker, especially coming from an SGS4 which could easil record sound at a rock concert!
I hope somebody will dig into that problem and find a (hopelfully) software based solution!
Many Thanks in advance.
Best
Nik

Solution: Turn off the "from any screen" option for "OK Google" detection.
Google Now > Settings > Voice > "OK Google" detection > from any screen
Turned off it will still work in Google Now and on the home screen with the widget.
Calls are all clear now and everyone says they can hear me fine.

Are you using a custom rom or kernel for your phone? If so it may be an issue with the rom . If using a custom kernel i believe you can modify mic / sound settings in Kernel Adiutor .

I also had a problem with the microphone. People say they do not hear me clearly, and as I say it cuts my words. It turned out that when the phone fell, some filter at the microphone jumped out of his seat. Repair time 30 minutes. Cost 10 €.

Q: Single fire speaker when using on-call speakerphone - Low volume

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. When I'm on a call with the 2 XL, only the bottom speaker fires, and it's pretty low when compared to my original XL. I have to max out the volume and still listen carefully for it to be of use. If anyone here has a 2 XL and an original pixel, could you test this too and report back? Thanks!
P.S. The speakers sound great when using it for music, games, etc.
Bump.... I posted the similar issue on the Google forums without response.
I do a lot of conference calls daily and was excited that the device uses 2 front firing speakers. Was really looking forward to that for conference calls. Come to find out that the phone only uses the bottom speaker for speakerphone. Doesnt really make sense to me since anything else--youtube, google music, etc. takes advantage of both speakers.
Hoping Google will listen to this and turn both speakers on for Speakerphone!!

I'm sure there will be an audio mod that gets developed that enables this feature in the future

This is done because of proximity to the top microphone for feedback prevention. Unlike just listening, conference calls require a microphone.

So new to this topic aka 'issue' but I just realized this also that the top speaker was not firing when I am on speaker phone.
Just to confirm -this is an intended feature - true?
Both speakers to fire when playing music or videos out loud - true?

When playing video or listening to music there is no need for a microphone to be active. When you're in a conference call, the other person has to some how hear you and the phone app turns on your microphone. Because this microphone is so close to one of the speakers, it must be turned off so that sounds coming from it do not feed back to the microphone.

Its intended.
If the top speaker was to fire up as well,
The other party wont be able to hear you properly, since the sound from speaker itself will interfere too much for the mic next to it
Same situation will happen if you do video call. The phone will use top mic instead of bottom, since it assumed to receive your voice better that way

Wouldn't it make more sense for the top speaker to fire when in a speakerphone call then since the bottom speaker is so close to the microphone???

And there are mods backed into certain ROMs at this point. Problem is audio feedback and call distortion. It's not a fully functional mod at this point. Causes more harm than good.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just a little confused how this happen.
I am thinking, if you hold the phone up to your ear, the mic is located at the bottom, not top.
And if there is a mic at the top, during speaker call we should be able to turn that off.
What says you on this theory?

No sound and mic not working when calling

Hello!
My phone has always been working fine so far.
Two days ago suddenly I couldn't make phone calls anymore. To me more precise there was no sound on my side and the other person could not hear me, just silence.
I did a reboot and it worked again.
Yesterday the problem came up again. Did a reboot, but a did not help. Today I did a more detailed investigation and it turns out:
- when doing a normal call I cannot hear a thing, not even the ringing sound. the other person may hear a crackling sound
- when I plug in a headphone-microphone (like the stock ones delivered with new phones) the call works normal (not the best sound but probably due to the cheap headphones)
- when I am on speaker the call works fine too (form the speakers at the bottom)
Another fun thing:
- the speaker does NOT work when playing music oder videos (tested with spotify and youtube). Yet the speaker works during calls
Conclusion:
- Normal front speaker does not give a sound
- Microphone works only when using speaker mode on calls
- Bottom speaker working when calling in speaker mode but not with music/video
My current setup:
Latest Firmwaer: fw_capricorn_miui_MI5S_V9.5.2.0.NAGCNFA_60af75c30b_7.0.zip
Latest Lineage OS nightly: lineage-15.1-20180514-nightly-capricorn-signed.zip
I did full wipes, firmware update, flash older ROMs...
Did anyone experience something like this before? Any ideas what to do?
Hi,
I'm in the same situation, with the same diagnosis.
Problem appear after updating to the lineageos rom of early May.
No clues

I did sold mi5s and bought mi5 (cheaper to service once screen is broken).
I think you must dismantle and turn clockwise speaker, so pins get contact. As far as I remember is was the problem

Die anyone found a solution? Is it a hardware or a software problem?
I had the same problem. In my case the solution was to clean the headphone port. Lint/Mud had accumalted there.
