Custom ROMs vs MIUI based ROMs camera performance - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Do custom ROMs (AOSP, LOS, etc) have less capable camera performance vs MIUI based ROMs? This the only thing keeping me from using a custom ROM (currently have RN5 AI device). Maybe my impression is incorrect or out of date, therefore would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

I was using PE, and the Google camera was working like a charm, even the stock camera was working very good. Now, I'm using Masik (based on miui 10), and Google camera is not doing a good job, sometimes don't even work... If camera is very important to you, I think the AOSP roms is working better than miui 10.

you mean the quality of the photos?
I want a rom with the best photo quality (and maybe many effects)

the virtuous infinity with sense 4full makes very good..
i remember that even the MIUI was great
however, you do not see a big difference.
You'll get the best camera quality with Sense ROMs (both GB & ICS). The next option would be CyanogenMod 7.2.0. The camera will never work as good for AOSP ICS and JB ROMs because the phone wasn't meant to run them by design, in the sense that the available drivers and libraries aren't made for AOSP. They have to be hacked, modified and backported from GB and the resulting quality of photos and video, while decent, is not as good as that with Sense ROMs.
The camera in Jellytime 8.0 works great for me. I have had a few problems with previous builds but the new one works great.
It's a tie between MIUI camera and HTC Sense. If you can get a sense camera, keep it. If you can't (like on a non sense ROM), go with one of the MIUI cameras. I recommend #17 (google it). I think they're pretty close in quality and usefulness.
The MIUI camera doesn't run on certain ICS ROMs, to make it work, you need to go to camera settings and change the size in pixels of the picture. Every time you leave the camera, and get back, you need to change the pixel size (change from 8mp to 6, then back for best size).
In JB go to settings and disable HW overlays, or else you'll get messed up lines of color running through the screen.
In GB you should be completely fine.
Hi,
Anyone have an update?
Some new ROMs, stable and with a good camera?
In some jelly time I have found some bugs or problems with autofocus..
Thank you for your reply..

[Q] Camera not good in OneX

Why does the camera in my HTC OneX as blur as I take a picture at 20 cm distance.
My camera was good on the stock rom but it hasnt been very good since i flashed Cyanogenmod.
Aside form being on a stock rom, I dont think there is much you can do about it

That's the difference between aosp and sense roms. The camera needs the sense framework for full support. It's common known that the camera has less performance on aosp/cm based roms.

OxygenOS 4.0 vs CyanogenMod/LineageOS

Hello guys,
I've recently installed OxygenOS 4.0 on my OP3 and it's not that I don't like it but I miss some features and things like that...I'm just used to CyanogenMod I think.
Is there anyone who has tried both and can tell me if CM/LOS is still riddled with bugs or it can be used as a daily driver without major issues? Also how's battery life on LOS?
Thanks for all the inputs my beloved OP3 users,
jay.
EDIT: Nevermind.............made my decision anyway, thread can be closed/deleted.
So which rom do you use now?
After trying almost every cyanogen/lineage rom and almost every AOSP rom, and despite that they released 7.1.1 already, they are full of bugs and crushes. And the most annoying bug is the call echoes, even in roms where this fixed, the in call vlume so low! And you can control it..
So imho, even that OOS 4 lack of customization, it is most stable and a perfect daily driver

I use Sultans CM 13 build, the best ROM out there.
there are so much good roms out there.. but yes, OOS 4.0 is really nice and fast.
i run 2 roms atm, but also tried much others (FOS, RR, BJRR, ) and no, they are NOT full of bugs.
atm i run OOS 4.0 and Dirty Unicorns.
both are fast, stable and nice.
Kernel sources for Nougat will roll out when oos4. Is rolling out globaly

Camera quality of Custom ROMs?

I'm thinking of Camera quality of Custom ROMs. Is the Camera quality the same across Custom ROMs (e.g. Viper, ICE, LeeDroid, LOS, AICP...)? How is it compared with Stock firmware? Would anyone here please explain my concern.
Thank you very much
On Roms based on HTC Sense the quality is exactly the same..can't comment on the AOSP roms, since they do not use the same stock camera application.
Thanks for the clarification. Let's wait for other custom Rom user's confirmation
There is not much to confirm...custom roms based on HTC Sense use the same software as the stock roms. AOSP roms don't/can't do that. Does not mean the quality has to be worse...but it could, at least it won't offer the different video/camera modes the stock camera does.
If you are interested in AOSP roms...then simply try it out.

OS choice.

Hello XDA,
I on my past phones I have used a wide variety of ROMs, but on my OP3 the camera quality drops if it is not OxygenOS based.
My question is, what is the best Oxygen based ROM? I have been using FreedomOS/FOS CE for about a year, but now I see others popping up like Experience ROM.
Which of these two has more features? What other O2 based ROMs are worth nothing?
I haven't had much success with mixing CM and flashable Oxygen camera zips, so that's why I prefer to stick to Oxygen based ROMs.
Thanks
They are pretty similar. I'd prefer Experience because I'd use only the debloated ROM with Arise, Adaway, adfree youtube with supersu. I personally use Sultanxda's cm 13 build. It's stable and camera quality is almost on par with OOS.
Experience and Freedom are pretty much the same.
i personally like FreedomOS more, cause nevax always has some interesting new ideas for features. but if you want completely debloated ROM you can also choose it in aroma installer also.
