Poor battery life - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello, i have a problem with my A2 lite. Battery life is just 2days and 4h SOT. Suspect is system consumption 44%. Have you experienced that someone? I have to try factory reset, or what? Thanks for help.

You should definitely factory reset the phone, you should not be below 6h SoT with this battery... Im regularly getting around 8 hours of SoT depending on what u use...

Same here. 1 day after the november security update and I have almost the same numbers as the OP. Coincidentally, 2 days ago my ticwatch e started draining battery dropping to almost half of what i was used to. I suspect the update messed up something.

No strange battery drain since November update on my side. Maybe an app you use was updated at the same day which is causing the drain.

Facing the same issue after november update. Same usage, same apps. Might have to factory reset
Edit: careless of me lol

So I did factory reset. Issue with battery continues. Android system and google play services using most battery, altogether about 30%. SOT is basically half of what it used to be. Google play services are on the latest Nov12 version.
Edit: Whatever is broken, it also affects the battery life of my wear os device (ticwatch e). After connecting the watch to old cell phone (ascend p7) battery drain of the device stopped

It was the fault of the november security update and now there's another security update which is going to fix the battery draining issue!

Let's wait few days to see. Installed yesterday and the phone battery looked promising... Until paired with my wear os device (Ticwatch e). Then the battery drained started again, on both devices. Google Play Services still have top usage. (I tested the watch with my old phone running on lolipop, all ok there, so it's got definitely something to do with the latest updates)

Had same issue with 1st november patch, now the 2nd seems to have fixed: again slow draining...fine!

I've also experienced bad battery consumption since my 2x November updates, from 9+ hours SOT to 5 hours (approx 2 days to 1 day)

have the same problem, bought the phone, it was offering me upgrade to android 9, i did it, and the battery cannot hold for more than some 29 hours.... i cannot see whats draining it unless i root it, because Gsam cannot see which apps specifically. anyone still have the issue on android 9?

Yes, I have the same issue, on Android 9 I can't get more than 6h ScreenOnTime. That's the reason why I prefer Oreo

GSam Battery Monitor can be granted some rights by adb (no root needed), so it can show consumption per app.
Have a look at
GSam Battery Monitor -> Menu -> More -> Enable More Stats
I ususally have less than 2 days with 6-7 SOT. If it's less, GSam shows me, which app consumed more than it should.

mine says i have to root it in order to enable it. in the same menu.
been browsing the MIUI forum, some people having the same issue, the guys who dont have that issue, are claiming its adaptive batterys fault and that it will normalise in a week or so, when adaptive battery does its thing.
sound odd, but ok.
also, it says that rollback to oreo is not recommendable because some functions could get buggy.

I had a problem after upgrading, downgrading and upgrading again. Was apparently caused by a modem firmware issue. Reflashing the modem from 10.0.3.0 fastboot image fixed it for me.
Showed up as "system" but nothing that could be pinpointed with GSam (root) other than high load in the kernel.

not true. i have done the downgrade without issues. Oreo, in my opinion, is very optimized for our mi a2 lite....im waiting a better Pie version. if you want to read how to do the downgrade here the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/help/sim-card-issue-downgrading-pie-9-0-t3874350/page6

okay so what should i do now? after downgrading from 10.0.4.0 pie to 9.6.11.0 oreo and rooting and it got even worse than ever. Please advice me fast!

I don't know how you downgraded your phone but I've downgraded mine from 10.0.4.0 to 9.6.11.0, battery life is better than February update. Phone is snappy and had no issues at all (except for SIM2 which I don't use). I've also rooted it with Magisk.

[Q] 4.1.2 battery drain

Hi!
So I have updated my unrooted Note 2 to version 4.1.2 and below describes what happened:
1. Battery drain very fast, can't even last 24 hours. The battery details show "Android System" chugging all my battery juices.
2. On 2nd day, I tried "Factory reset" on Settings menu but still my battery drains very fast by "Android System".
3. On 4th day, I installed Kies on my PC and did the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization". Noticed an improvement in battery life but after 4 hours, I noticed "Android OS" is now taking his turn to chug all my battery juices.
4. On 5th day, woke up and noticed battery drained >20% by "Android OS".
5. 6th day (today), I did another "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" on Kies and now I noticed "Android System" took over and took over >29% battery usage in under 1 hour.
6. Now, I am running "Firmware Upgrade and Initilization" for the 3rd time and is hoping for the best.
Question:
Should I root my device and downgrade to 4.1.1? Before update to 4.1.2, it can last almost 2 days.
Thanks for your help!!
I had a similar problem and discovered that "gpsd" on my phone was causing the drain. This system also required other systems whiqh together used about 45% of the battery. The "gpsd" is the system samsung uses to track your phone (if you have enabed it). It did not cause this drain on my phone prior to the update.
I hope this helps.
Thanks...

Hey thanks for your input. Would you be able to explain in more details on how to disable this "gpsd" thing you mentioned?
I would like to try it out myself
I disabled all samsung apps, and several others including google now and location services.
Still a massive battery drain.
Very annoying..

I hope Samsung fix this issue, and quick! I don't like my phone losing a minimum of 20% overnight.
I have no battery drain issues (yet) on the 4.1.2 could be just the vocal minority experiencing it or idk.

On average I also don't observe a significant overall battery drain. Am currently projecting about 7-8 hours of screen time which is about the same as with before. Also having the same very low overnight drain.
However a few oddities:
Android system is higher on the battery charts than in 4.1.1.
I was playing nfs_mw before and after the update, and there is a significant increase in battery drain in 4.1.2. A full battery used to give over 4 hours of gametime, now gives just over 1 hour.
I've also not seem anyone else mentioning this and I'm not sure if this is related to battery but:
4.1.2 is absolutely perfect butter smooth
Every animation and transition had been completely fluid and going from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 was like upgrading from 50% to 100% project butter.

Mine after upgrade to 4.1.2 took 7,5 hours during night to drain battery to 89%...

why is that?
I have downgraded but version 4.1.1 doesn't give me the option to switch to 2G only data mode!! Only 2G/3G/4G or 3G only!
This is essential as where I live my 3G keeps cutting out, and I get frequent loss of service. Is there any way to get this option back???
Roughly about 1% per 7-8hours depending on the current battery level, are you losing more ?
I downgraded to 4.1.1 by downloading the appropriate firmware from sammobile.com and flashing as pda with odin. I then flashed the perseus kernel which has the sudden death bug fix built in. Perseus is not prerooted but it doesn't have to be, at least it protects the phone from sudden death as I had the faulty chip in mine. I got 40 hours standby and 4 hours screen on out of it now, all accounts syncing with Google now and Samsung tracking service. happy to have switched back to 4.1.1, all I miss is the snappier s note from 4.1.2.

Hello guys I have this problem also In my note 2 after updating to 4.1.2 my battery drain like 10% for 20 min in idle
Factory reset dosen't solve the problem
I just wipe data and cache from recovery mode beleive me now its better than before I am using it for 1 day 14 hours I still have 49% on heavy usage with H+ connection

Hope it get fixed soon...
Last night I disabled "Google Location Services". It is under Settings > Accounts > Google > Location Settings
This is what I noticed.
Before I sleep, after I finished charging at 16min my Android Services spiked up almost 50%...
When I woke up, this is what I saw... 9% total drain and Android Services went up to 54%...
Not too bad comparing to a few days ago when I first updated.
So is there anything I can do without needing to root my phone?
Thanks!

I have the same problem like You
Can confirm this issue. Used to get 5-6 hours screen on time on 4.1.1 on a normal day (moderate to heavy usage).
Now I can't even reach 3 hours on 4.1.2. I already did a hard reset. No change.
Can installing a custom ROM solve this?

Downgrading to Android 4.4?

I am very upset with low battery life. It holds the charge ok while I am not doing anything, but overheats when I use the internet, GPS or camera. Power loss is about 20% per hour, which is unacceptable. I am shocked how come they can even bring such products to the market.
I recall that power consumption significanlty increased when I upgraded Sony Xperia Z1 from Android 4.4 to 5.
I have a rooted LG G4.
I want to install android 4.4 on it. Is it possible to install standard version of Android 4.4 or the phone will stop working?
I can definitely relate to the bad battery life, I lose 20%+ when using my phone during my lunch break, it's insane.
Unfortunately the bootloader is locked with no workaround currently, so there is no way to flash custom ROMs. If there was, you'd be hard pressed to find a developer working on an older Android OS as most tend to use the stock ROM and customize it or use a newer version of AOSP Android.

Thank you for information. I hope they will come up with something, like downgrade capability or Android 5 fix.
Go into battery stats and see what's draining your battery. Try installing GSAM battery monitor or BetteryBatteryStats.
Maybe you have email set up to constantly check or something else, but there is something draining the battery. Your drain is not normal.
I am getting easily 24 hours between charges. I'm getting a few hours of screen on time each day. My battery drain overnight is about 1% or 2% per hour. For example, I may go from 78% to 68% overnight. I think that's high because I had my G3 on Lollipop doing 2% or so most nights. I leave on WiFi and data all night.

Horrible Battery Life on Nougat

So Just to announce where I am coming from, I am a Sony fan for the past 4 years, Had the Z2 and was totally blown away by the battery life it offered. Then I got the Z5P and even though the battery performance was nowhere near the Z2 I still got through an entire day with it without issues so I was happy.
Then came the Nougat update and all hell broke loose. I am literally getting just 6 hrs of battery life since the update. And even when it is idle it still drains battery like atleast 2 percent every hour.
Also the charging is very slow. I have a quick charger that used to take the battery life from 0 to 20 in atleast 10 - 15 mins. But now it actually drains the battery if I am using the phone while charging. And yes I have switched off the battery optimization option.
Any help will be appreciated even if it is just a confirmation that I am not the only one having this issue, which will at least let me know that it is not just my phone.
There must be some process with corrupted data after de update which is constantly executing something. I recommend you to do a full wipe, factory reset

Oh did not know this could happen. Will definitely try doing a full wipe and see how things go! Thanks a lot!
I never fully trust OTA updates, because it keeps all the applications data and some special case of your current configuration maybe is not "converted" to the new version and causes the programs to behave weird. Have you looked at the battery usage? Maybe you find the process which a huge % of battery eaten, and just wiping that app data is enough

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I looked at the battery usage stats and no specific app is draining more than 2 percent of the battery over a charge. The only things that have taken most out of the battery are 1. The Screen On Time which is to expected and 2. The Idle Phone which takes around 15% consistently in every charge.

after updating to .372 , i learned from internet that this build has battery draining issues. ( i never faced any )
after updating to .376. , the phone is as steady stable as my other xperias (btw z5p is my 6th xperia )
now there is however a catch.
1. if you updated on OTA , this means the update of 1.2gb via ota only replaced certain files from .305 to make it .372 build (android 6 to 7) --- such OTA updates USUALLY ends up having problems (in general) with battery draining issues. Such problems i personally faced during updating from honeycomb to ics. - in short whenever update is available; always install FRESH
2. if your bootloader is locked then use xperia companion to install fresh after wiping all data. (makebackups)
3. if your phone is not rooted then try disabling all un necessary apps under Apps section.
----
Trivia
You cannot compare Z5p with predecessors like Z3/Z2/Z1 and Z since
1. they were always smaller in screen size / resolution and were not 4k
2. They stops at Android 5 / 6 as their last builds and battery life was awesome w.r.t consumption

however some of friends on XDA agrees that .305 (android 6.0.1) (came out dec2016) is the BEST build ever for z5p. addressed all battery issues and it was the final build for z5p on android 6.0.1
even i am thinking to degrade my phone due to ram consumption of N is very high!
this is why xzp has 4gb ram!
I need to know. If I updated my phone to .376 and it's having this lack of battery life, DO I HAVE TO SELL IT OR DISPOSE OF IT BECAUSE IT'S LITERALLY A LOST CAUSE NOW? (P.S. I immediately did a factory reset after the Nougat install completed.)
Because apparently if you updated to this build, then returned to the last Marshmallow build, THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED, and reloading nougat will only make things worse. And if you updated to .378, it not only does this not get fixed, it breaks your headphone jack to boot.
Please help. I am freaking out about this battery life. I lost 60 PERCENT IN 6 HOURS OF BASICALLY PODCASTS. ?

Well, after all my trials I flashed MM back and everything is back to normal. The issue is with 7 so not sure what happened to your handset
EDIT: Re-upgraded once again= battery 8 hour life. Go into About Phone, Status and disable battery optimization. The handset reboots and incredibly this morning it was like the old days .

Maybe I'll try that. The best I was able to do was 21 hours with one bar LTE, 6 hour's sleep, and 3h40m screen on time with several hour's worth of Pocket Casts.
i confirm that on build .33 i lost my battery even on stamina mode one percent every 10 minuets over using wifi , it just keeps the battery when device is screen off -_- its horrible i didnt have this kind of problem with .253 and im wondering revert back to MM

Poor Battery Life on Android P

Ever since upgrading to Android P (OTA) 3 days ago I've noticed the battery life is really poor. On Oreo I used to see only 1-2% drain overnight. Now I go to bed with full charge and wake up with only 60% left. The battery drains a lot faster when I'm using it as well.
I used to be able to get 6-7 hours SOT easily. Now I'm not even sure if I could squeeze 4 hours before the battery is flat.
Is anybody else seeing this? Or is this normal considering Android P just got installed and it needs time to "optimize stuff"? But then again, with Oreo I got awesome battery life from day 1.
Weird, I've gotten better battery life..
Better battery here
Interesting. I'll let it run a few more days and see if there's any improvement. Otherwise I'm going back to Oreo.

Thanks guys. I'll wait a few more days. If it doesn't improve will try a factory reset
I'm getting better battery life with Pie
Pixel 1 XL could last a long time. Pixel 2 XL was worse and the worst with Android P unfortunately. I upgraded from Beta, decided to factory reset since there was a bug with Wear OS eating the battery. Got a little better. Got some more little better disabling adaptive battery. I think Doze is still in Android P.
Anyway, it's still not that good. But decent.
I am having the same issue.
when I reboot the phone, the battery seems ok.
But when I start using the phone and open several apps, the battery starts draining quickly.
I installed magisk root, should I do a factory reset and not installing magisk?
I went from a day and 17 hours to 16 hours. This is definiately a piss-poor "improvement to battery life."

I'm not sure how much help adaptive battery is going to help. It's meant to limit background battery usage of infrequently used misbehaving apps. If that's not happening adaptive battery won't do much.

My battery life has been terrible. Today I unplugged at 93%. I've been off the charger for 9 hours with 4 hours screen on time. I'm at 23%. With Oreo that kind of usage would have me at about 40%.
I'd rather not have the hassle of having to do a factory reset but I might not have much choice.
It hasn't got any better since I reported the issue.
I think I'm going to flash Oreo instead of trying a factory reset as I doubt it would solve the problem. Maybe someone else could try and let us know.
I'll report back after flashing Oreo. Very disappointed. I thought this was the first phone I didn't need to tinker with all these stuff on. I was really happy with it until this issue came up.
So a few days ago I flashed Oreo only to have it tell me it couldn't find any of my backups on Google Drive during the initial setup. Of course, the backups were done when I was on Pie.
So I had to upgrade to Pie then factory reset. This time it found my backups.
Yesterday I managed to get 5 hours SOT with about 40% battery left. Life is all good now

looks like i'm going to have to do the same. It doesnt make sense how some people are getting better battery and other worse. Are there some of us running apps not 9.0 compatible? might be worth uninstalling everything and adding them back day by day. it'll take a long time though!

It appears I jumped the gun. The problem came back yesterday.
The phone loses about 4-5% battery per hour even on standby. I have no idea what's going on; I haven't installed any new apps and usage pattern hasn't changed either.
One very interesting fact I have discovered is that the issue appears to happen only when I'm on Wifi. When I'm mobile data, all is good. So the phone seems to be doing some funky stuff when it's on Wifi lol.
Oh well, I guess I will try to install BBS and see if I could find the culprit.

That is entirely possible. I guess we have apps that have not been written/optimized for Pie? That would explain why some people are not seeing the issue and some unfortunate ones like us are.
I factory-resetted the phone, the issue is still there. I don't have any strange app. It seems that it's just the system that is consuming the battery.
That's very strange I've had the complete opposite, battery life has improved, if reset didn't fix it monitor your apps for unusual battery usage and limit the background activity of battery consuming apps

i have a MI5s For almost 2 years?? and since some weeks ago my phone start to drain really fast like in 5 minutes 10% or more already drained. i was on lineage 15.1. and go back for the global version and the problem persists.
then i ordered a new battery but infortunately it has the same problem. i even installed the new developer version 8.11.15 and install again the newest version of lineage. i notice the aproximation sensor was not working and i removed it. and the fingerprint not working too. using keys on screen.
any solution for this?
best regards
Try flash to latest miui 10 global beta. Im on beta 10 8.10.25 and the battery life is really impressive compared to previous stock rom.

Go back to 7.0 firmware, reboot to system then flash oreo firmware again.
This above, or you might actually have an App installed which is causing this problem. Check in the settings -> battery -> power usage if there is some app sucking up all the power.

the problem was 2 things:
- the battery. when they replace the screen they damage the battery. the battery had a small cut that was coming out some smelly gas.
- the aproximation sensor was dead. maybe caught sweat from running.
replace the battery and remove the sensor appear to fix the drain. now my phone after charge at night, at the end of next day it still at 40%. if i am going to see a episode online with phone data and not wifi it consume 20% for 40min episode.
Ok yeah, if the battery is damaged , then it's clear
