My 2 XL is running all stock everything and have read both that Assistant CAN and other places CANNOT open phone when locked.
So what is the actual verdict? If phone is locked and asleep, will "Ok Google" unlock it? Up till now it awakens my phone but does not unlock it. Am I missing a step?

Does the same for me, drives me crazy and pretty much makes it worthless as a feature when I have squeeze as an option by the time I've manually unlocked the phone. Wish I could get it working since I was pretty sure it's supposed to work that way.
Do you have "Unlock with Voice Match" checked?

- Open the Google App or tap the "G" in the search bar.
- Tap "More" on the bottom right corner.
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Voice"
- Tap "Voice Match"
It's actually a setting/feature that's no longer on the Pixel 3 and I guess newer Pixels moving on.

Set on mine and it doesn't do it. It wakes my phone but doesn't unlock.

Hi! Is this a common problem? I don't know what to call this, but there remains a hazy circle after I last touch the area. It disappears after a few seconds but it reappears whenever I tap on that part of the screen.

Are you referring to the Google search bar? Mine does that from time to time, I thought it was trying to inform me to use it since I never touch it.
Or are you referring to a white dot when you touch anywhere on the screen? That's enabled in Developer Options.

I'm referring to the white dot that appears whenever I touch the screen. I know it's enabled but there are times where the dot stays there for too long.

That should be "Developer Options/Show Touches. Turn that off if you don't want that occurring. I'm on stock, rooted and don't have any after effects when I touch my display.

Does anybody know a way to enable okay Google "Always on" mode? Such as in the Moto X line and the newer nexus models?

He means "Always on" as in when the display is off and the phone is not connected to a power source.
Hmm, based on options available within the settings - this does not seem to be possible? The nearest option is "From any screen" (which says "Responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or your the device is charging") - So does everything he need except for the screen off part.

Somebody said there is an apk in the Nexus systems that enable the always on option , but I am not sure about that to be honest since i couldn't find anything like that other than something called "moto signature app" on my Nexus 6. However the feature still works on my Nexus 6 even when it's running dirty unicorns or cm13. Perhaps the gapps installer has something that determines what kind of device it's on and whether to enable the feature.

It's not possible. Always on needs a special low power chip for listening to voice. OP3 does not support it.

Always on does need the low power chip. The snapdragon series starting with the 800 all have it. It's what allows the proximity wake up, the double tap to wake, etc. Even the OP1 had something that was identical called Hello Snapdragon I believe.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
Not sure if Double Tap to wake uses a special chip. In any case, as you have rightly mentioned, 820 does have the necessary hardware, but I think OP3 also need to license and certify it from Qualcomm which they must have decided not to do.

Makes sense! Thanks for an informed answer strangely enough it seems to work on any ROM I use on my Nexus 6 AOSP or CM or otherwise. I wonder how we could pinpoint where the feature "lives" if that makes sense.

I recently installed the unlocked firmware (XAA, G955U1UEU1AQG2) on my Verizon S8+ and every time I come out of using split-screen (multi-window), the navbar on the home screen will change from transparent with white buttons to white with gray buttons. It doesn't matter what mode the navbar is in. The only way to clear it is to restart the phone. Is anyone else that's running the most most recent version of the unlocked firmware seeing this?

Yeah, I love it, it runs smoothly. It doesn't have WiFi calling or Verizon voicemail built in. I know there are mods for WiFi calling, but I don't wanna go through the headache of setting it up. I just use Hangouts (with my Google Voice number) if I ever need to make a WiFi call and Google Voice for my voicemail.

First select select which window you want to close (by physically touching). You'll see the blue line between the windows move in the direction of the window you touch. Then press the little white hash in the middle and then a menu will pop up. Then press X.

I have an unrooted Google Pixel 2 XL running the Android P Developer Preview. When Android Auto comes on (via my car's Bluetooth) my phone ALWAYS goes into Do Not Disturb mode. It's a pain to have to turn it off once the app launches every time. Does anyone know why this happens?
It's a safety feature. You could always adjust your Do Not Disturb settings to allow text messages.

I also have a unrooted pixel XL with Android p. Mine is also doing this and I hate it. I can't here any directions if I am using the app for directions on how to get somewhere and I can't use the music part of Android auto either because I can't here it either. Is there anyway to turn it off. It is defeating the whole reason I use the app.
slide down the notification shade, and turn of DND once its plugged in and/or connected to your vehicle.
not ideal, but simple fix.

I could of sworn there was a setting that you can adjust for DND for Android Auto?
This did Not happen in 8.1. Really annoying.
