I apologize if this has already been addressed. Im having a weird issue where my ringtone, alarm and notification sounds are randomly changing on there own and I have to manually change back. Of course I only notice it once I get a text or phone call and when i go into settings, the sounds will be changed to something like: 9523 or 461. Anyone else having this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I forgot to take a screenshot of the last instance.

Haven't experienced this at all. Are you on a custom ROM or in stock? Which monthly update are you on?

I upgraded to 2.2 OTA yesterday. Everything has worked great except that out of all issues, the notification sound for my text message became a very low key pop sound. I attempted to change it various times and tried resetting my phone a couple of times to see if that changed anything and nothing.
The funny part is I can still change the sound notifications for my twitter, so it is specifically the text messaging that is causing a problem. I have never rooted and didn't flash that early froyo, just the legit one yesterday.
Can anyone help me?
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Have you tried a reboot?

By rebooting you mean turning off and turning on? If yes I have many times and tried taking out the battery too.

Im rooted using fresh right now it is built on the latest OTA and I'm trying to replicate your problem. What happens when you attempt to change the sound also where are you changing the sound at in messaging settings or the default in sounds?

When I go to settings/sound/notification sound I click any of the sounds and click ok. (As I highlight any of them it plays the preview sound).
Then I exit and have multiple people text me and it plays a little tiny sounding popping sound instead of whatever sound I picked.
Now I am on launcher pro and attempted changing on regular sense and nothing happened. I'm also using chompsms. (maybe uninstall chompsms?)
I don't know what to do . I turned off the phone several times and also took out the battery. Twitter notifications work fine, so its directly related to texting
go into your messages home screen press menu, press settings, scroll to received messages heading, make sure play notification sound is checked and than select a notification sound from the next option below and select ok

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG THANK YOU !!!!!!!! You have no idea how frustrated I was with this !
I really appreciate it man.
This sounds really stupid but anyone else having a problem with the ringtone you select staying? I select a ringtone and then verify but every time I get my first call after it goes to dumb Verizon airwaves ringtone. My notification tones stick like normal. Just really getting annoying.
Thanks
Never had that problem ....

Yeahp i had it...seemed to have stopped tho.
I'm still having the problem with the ringtone not staying. Still reverts the VZW Airwaves after first call. I checked to see if I disabled an app to cause this and struck out there. I'm wondering if its do not disturb. I keep it on always and only let contacts call.
Same problem here

Hopefully someone will chime in with why it's happening. Ive run out of ideas.
I saw that someone did a factory reset that solved the issue

Mine is still happening. I've been busy working but I may try a factory reset. My phone started bootlooping this morning when I got home from work and put it on the charger. Restarted like 6 times. Lots of bugs
I'm still not having any issues, well except this

I had this issue at first. Do you have ES File explorer? Mine was borked because of that. So i had to disable that from being default. Then it still wasn't working for my SMS only text tone so I switched from Hangouts to Google Messenger, changed the tone then switched back to Hangouts.
When I was doing that Hangouts had the right text tone selected but that wasn't what played. So i used "SMS" as default SMS account vs my Gmail then switched it back the be more organized and it worked. Haven't tried changing tone since so idk if thats needed each time

I'd again verify your not going through a file explorer menu and thats its not the default app. Instead system explorer

Okay good to hear. I'm just going to wait and deal with it since I will be exchanging for a new device. Thanks again for letting me know.
No problem
Been having this same issue on my replacement Note 7, (ringtone never switched to default on my original Note 7). I used Samsung cloud to restore some settings on my replacement Note 7 and that could be the culprit.
I really do not want to do a factory reset as I just spent a ton of time setting my phone back up this week.
I moved the ringtone from SD card to internal to see if that would fix it from reverting. Will see...
I had the issue on my original defective Note 7. Not having it on my new one.

Maybe unrelated, but are you using any kind of audio volume manager? Some of them (like AudioManager Pro) will store ringtone information, so when you toggle modes, the ringtone comes along for the ride (reverting one that you may have manually selected).
I put a brand new ringtone on my internal drive Ringtone folder yesterday and when I turned on my phone this morning, it had reverted back to the Verizon default ringtone again. Any ideas how to get the ringtone to stick other than a factory reset?
Hi, I'm new here however I've read on a few rom threads about an echo on voice calls. Today I started experiencing the echo for the 1st time and I think I have and idea what's the cause.
I am running freedomos ce v1.10 but I've seen the issue as a known bug on other ROMs and it doesn't affect everyone.
I think it affects those of us who flash the pixel dialer, maybe other dialers as well but in my case it's the pixel dialer.
Why do I think so?
Today it started, i received a call and I noticed the call screen was the default phone app screen not the pixel screen. (I've disabled the stock app). but somehow its still activating when there's an incoming call.
Also after accepting the call I notice 2 phone icons in the status bar suggesting maybe that there's 2 phone calls active.
I've checked and the stock phone app is still disabled so there may be an OS level trigger still allowing it to accept incoming calls.

OK, maybe a mod can move it to the correct area. I didn't post in any specific rom thread since it occurs on various ROMs.

In which threads you have read about the echo issue? This issue is mainly present on the nougat roms and it's due to the audio hal, however workaround was found and now everything is fine(when you flash the fix ofc). I have never had this issue on MM roms and especially on stock(ye, freedom rom is stock based), so maybe the problem you have is really somewhere with the apps you use. And can you tell how did you find that you have the issue?

As I stated I noticed that incoming calls seemed to come in the stock phone app not the pixel dialer. But because the stock app is disabled think that may have been the issue.

Do you have root? If yes, just go to the system folder, find the app that you don't want to use and rename it(add .back at the end), so you can revert to it later if you want, then reboot

I'm not sure which is the stock phone app. Apart from "Google dialer" there's "OPincalui", "phonesky", "telecom" and "telephonyprovider"
I'm not sure which is the actual phone app.

I would eliminate Phonesky (Play Store), and TelephonyProvider from the list because those are not directly tied to the phone app.

Actually you should be able to see the app icon when you go to the folder, so try with some other file manager that support this function. I can bet that OPIncallUI is the dialer, but to be sure, try with other manager

Thanks. That worked.
I have been trying to figure out how to have different sound notifications for different applications in my 2XL. One sound for all notifications isn't acceptable.
Anyone have any solutions? I have a locked bootloader.
I usually change the notifications sounds in each specific app, and I leave the default notification sound as none. That's what I've done in the past, at least. I'm not getting the 2 XL until later today, so I'm not sure if that's the way it's still done.
I have tried this but it doesn't appear to work that way.
The only way i know of is like what EMcTx stated.
you go to each individual app and change the sound for each one.
you can either go through the notification settings or through the app.

This is a really silly question, but how do I prevent my phone from making the notification sound when a text message comes my way? I've attempted to silence it (beforehand), but I have a feeling I'm missing a step or two.

If you're using Android Messages, go into it's settings, there is an option to show silently. I am on Pie so it may look a bit different for you.
