Hi, I'm new here however I've read on a few rom threads about an echo on voice calls. Today I started experiencing the echo for the 1st time and I think I have and idea what's the cause.
I am running freedomos ce v1.10 but I've seen the issue as a known bug on other ROMs and it doesn't affect everyone.
I think it affects those of us who flash the pixel dialer, maybe other dialers as well but in my case it's the pixel dialer.
Why do I think so?
Today it started, i received a call and I noticed the call screen was the default phone app screen not the pixel screen. (I've disabled the stock app). but somehow its still activating when there's an incoming call.
Also after accepting the call I notice 2 phone icons in the status bar suggesting maybe that there's 2 phone calls active.
I've checked and the stock phone app is still disabled so there may be an OS level trigger still allowing it to accept incoming calls.

OK, maybe a mod can move it to the correct area. I didn't post in any specific rom thread since it occurs on various ROMs.

In which threads you have read about the echo issue? This issue is mainly present on the nougat roms and it's due to the audio hal, however workaround was found and now everything is fine(when you flash the fix ofc). I have never had this issue on MM roms and especially on stock(ye, freedom rom is stock based), so maybe the problem you have is really somewhere with the apps you use. And can you tell how did you find that you have the issue?

As I stated I noticed that incoming calls seemed to come in the stock phone app not the pixel dialer. But because the stock app is disabled think that may have been the issue.

I'm not sure which is the stock phone app. Apart from "Google dialer" there's "OPincalui", "phonesky", "telecom" and "telephonyprovider"

Actually you should be able to see the app icon when you go to the folder, so try with some other file manager that support this function. I can bet that OPIncallUI is the dialer, but to be sure, try with other manager

Help ..My phone is rooted..stock rom
for some reason when i am receiving a call ..the phone rings...but nothing shows on screen...i cant even answer the phone..
the only way to answer right now is to open phone app...
What went wrong? Did i delete something? Does anyone have stock phone apk and is it possible to put that back on my phone?

Yes no problems before
The best solution is to un-freeze the apps that you have frozen and then see if the problem still exists.
Depending on how you rooted, you can reload the stock system and kind of start over, but you should really check out the phones functions good and make sure they are working before you start changing stuff.
Always freeze apps first to make sure you aren't creating problems as you go and with the memory this phone has on it, chances are you don't need to actually delete anything.
Doing a lot of READING about what people are finding, how things react, how to do things like flashing back etc... is always useful rather than jumping in and just start blindly making changes.
Keep a record of what you changed so you know how to unchange it.

Im thinking i did delete something because when i checked those settings the box was NOT checked and i dont know how that happened.
BUT this did not fix the problem...When i am not using Nova launcher a minimized Ringer will pop up when i am called that i can maximize.
I also found a file on my comp that might be the issue ..its called Call_Keypad_bg (or something like that)
How can i put the file back into com.android.phone?
Anyone able to help?

Hello everybody,
I got a strange problem occuring only in a certain situation. In order to explain better, have a concrete example here:
I write a message in Whatsapp or Threema. Then I lock the phone by closing the flip cover: The screen then shows the clock from "Asus Flip Cover" and turns off after 5 seconds. So far so good. Now: When I get a message, I hear the notification sound. I open the flip cover and... the notification immediately disappears. So sometimes I miss important messanges, just because of this bug.
At first I thought that it is a third party app that is responsible for this strange behaviour. But yesterday I did a reset of the entire phone via the settings app and didn't even use a backup to restore it. The bug reappeared.
Apparently nobody else is encountering this bug, so before sending the phone back I thought that maybe someone has an idea or even solution for me. The phone is the ZE551ML (not rooted or unlocked) and yesterday I also installed the new firmware (.59); the bug was there since I got the phone, but as I said: I thought it is a third party app that is responsible for this behaviour and I had no time to reset it earlier because of exams and stuff... Is there another way to reset the phone? Maybe a better one than the one over the settings app?
Sincerely,
Christophe

The following are my settings under "Settings" -> "Sound & notification":
When device is locked: Show all notification content
App notifications: Threema and Whatsapp have no special settings
Apply Material Design: OFF
Notification access: ASUS Launcher
I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I'm tagging ASUS employee @Tuanies hopefully he can provide further assistance. I'm out of ideas since you have already factory reset the phone.

You mean turning the entire Asus Cover View off? I just tried and the messages still disappear. Actually the screen turns on automatically, the lockscreen appears and they disappear within a second.
After the reset I even got the strange behaviour that messages arrive, sometimes, late or only when I open the specific app.

No.
Just tell me if you think the problem is hardware related or software related. Personally I wouldn't say it is hardware related but one may never know for sure.
I know the firmware from ASUS is quite buggy (and has a lot of translation faults btw.) and, according to some research on the internet, ASUS often tries to break the law by not repearing rooted devices even if it is entirely legal in the EU. So before unlocking the bootloader and trying an alternative firmware, I just want to be sure.

Sounds like a software problem, does it happen right after a wipe without anything else installed? Could just be an installed app causing issues.

a possible answer
I think I had the same problem after arbitrarily swiping or tapping the wrong response to use CM lock for Asus with the latest updated.
Google "Lock apps" function integrated with CM AppLock" to navigate to a possible hidden app setting preventing you from seeing notifications and uncheck "Hide notifcations... " under the "Options" heading on said page.
shortcut:
(App Drawer settings, lock apps, input pattern you chose, settings (upper right 3 dots), uncheck "Hide notification")
I now have all my notifications back that I allowed in other settings.
I hope this helps.
I tried to post the URL, but I haven't posted 10 times yet.

During voice calls I get no audio through the top speaker (people can hear me fine however so it's not a microphone issue). When I switch to speaker phone I at least get audio from the bottom speaker so I can use the phone. However, playing music or any video content both speakers work fine. I factory reset the phone and it worked fine for a few hours, then quit. Booted the phone in safe mode, didn't work. Factory reset and didn't install ANY apps, didnt even link a gmail to it, didn't work.
This will be my 3rd device (2nd replacement through verizon and the original) that have all had the same problem. I would say it's an app issue, but when it still doesn't work in safe mode, or before installing any apps....
Verizon is clueless and just keeps telling me they'll send me a new device. Any ideas?

Do not even know where to find these information. moreover the top speaker is completely off, do you believe that is a matter of tuning.
For sure the device need also a better tuning since the top speaker is less lowed than the bottom one.

You need your phone rooted & File explorer, you just open the app & copy /system to sdcard, pack it up & send to me. Or if you're unrooted, then FX file explorer can copy /system partition to sdcard (doesen't matter if it's internal, or external one) without root.
If you do that - i can take a look at system files & libs in order to know what's possible. Maybe it's also possible to force earpiece to reproduce music stream via mixer patch. Anyways, i'll better know if anything is possible only when i look through the files. The reason why i'm asking is because i've tried all img unpackers that i know, but they crash when i try to unpack any Oreo firmware img, for whatever reason.

I don't have the device
Toggle off hearing aid setting
I ran into the same problem when I first setup my Pixel 2 XL and here is how I determined what caused it.
Verizon test calls are #832.
1) I tested the phone when I first got it without holding up to my ear, that has hearing aids, and the top speaker and both speakers worked fine.
2) I tested the phone #832 and held it up to my ear, the top speaker did not work, but when I put it on speaker mode, I can hear.
The way to fix is hit the phone application as if you are going to make a call, hit the three ellipse on the upper right side, this is a menu (3 dots) > Settings > Accessibility > Toggle off Hearing Aid.
I am a combat veteran, so I have two Resound Revision hearing aids to help me hear, these through a small 2.5 GH signature that caused the Pixel to automatically Toggle On the Hearing Aid feature.
I hope this solution works out for you.

My initial attempts failed because I was looking in the main system accessibility settings. When I finally went into the phone app and then clicked the 3-dots and selected settings, I was able to select that accessibility menu which contained the Hearing aids option. Turning that option off restored the top speaker phone function. Still no idea of how that option got set . . .
Thanks!

Love the phone. I think the included dialer (phone app) can use some work. Does anyone have any recommendations on alternate dialer apps?
My favorite phone app is the Pixel Google Phone app. Does anyone have a script or directions on how to install it on a 5T?
You can try "True Phone". A very good dialer/contacts app. Manage well the dual sim.
Magisk+Google Dialer works like a charm for me. No problems whatsoever
Just to follow up my thread and logonaniket's suggestion, I used Google Dialer install zip from Oneplus 5 forum. Here is the link for others:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/magisk-oneplus-5-google-dialer-contacts-t3640993
I flashed it using twrp and it works great. Sounds like logon used Magisk Module and it worked for him also.
Hi all,
my main problem with the OxygenOS Dialer is that the screen sometimes suddenly switches on, even when the phone is very close to my ear. Then I touch the screen with my ear and someting is triggered (Flash light on,...).
I installed 'Drupe' which is a bit of an overkill in my opinion., but the proximity sensor works fine there.
Did anybody try the flashable google dialer from here? https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/g-d-m-c-dpi-t3805463
Or should I use the Magisk module and anothe Google Phone version?
Any other good dialer recommendation is very welcome
Thanks

I had the same issue when I switched to the Google Dialer. I found that I needed to make the Google Dialer the default phone app before disabling the system dialer... for some reason OmniRom didn't know what to do... phone would ring, but I got no screen to pick up.
The flashable zip i mentioned 4-5 posts ago seems to works fine for me on OxygenOs
Try ExDialer app. I'm using it for many years, on different phones. No mistakes with it!

To be more specific, when i go out of my phone range and then come back thats when it happens. Other functions like message notifications work as predicted. The same problem goes for the unlock via band function. To.fix this i have to manually open and close bluetooth which is very annoying.
I did not notice this, but I do not really go out of the phone range Sounds like a bug, so hopefully gets fixed in next update. Do not forget to submit a bug report from Mi Fit app.

The strange thing is that even if i dont go out of range and have my phone with all time, eventually will happen the same thing at some point
