How can I free up memory ? (i already deleted cache & apps, and I moved apps to SD) - Samsung Galaxy J2 Questions & Answers

How can I free up memory ? (i already deleted cache & apps, and I moved apps to SD)
It seems that my Samsung J2 (android 5.1.1) phone just gobbles up memory (even when I dont do so much).
I have 8GB internal memory.
* Half is used by the system.
* Almost half is used by me; even though I dont have that many 'apps' installed.
* 450mb used up on miscellaneous files. (but when I click it, there is only 15mb of files there! I've no idea where or what the
other 435mb are)
I constantly delete cache with "Smart Manager"
I have moved ALL apps (where possible) to SD Card.
I have deleted all the apps that I don't use.
I have deleted old conversations from my chatting apps.
I am running out of ideas !
Even that it says I have 500mb of available space, I can't update any app.
(eg: What'sApp needs 14mb to update, but it says its out of space (despite 500mb available space)
It's asking me to delete about 120mb of apps in order to update WhatsApp 14mb !!!
(i assume something wrong with the way that my phone or Android is calculating the sizes and space of everything).
I have had the phone for 3 years.
When I bought my phone (3 years ago) I could easily get 40+ apps on the phone without any issue (and loads of space remaining).
Questions:
I cant delete my basic 15 apps. (I use them often).
- So what else can I delete ??
- With just 15 apps installed (cache deleted and many apps moved to SD card), why would I have all these issues ?
google play takes up 460mb !!! which is sooo frustrating.
uber even takes up 200mb (god knows why).
all the other apps are reasonable sizes (5mb to 70mb)
Any ideas what I could do ?
Thank you

The only way work (for my case with G532G/DS) is to root your phone, install xposed framework, install x internalSD and then freely choose your default location for apps. Be advice that you should only move apps at your own risk since some apps may not give you notifications, I think so ? , or crash

[Q] Remove OrangeUK Bloatwear (after root)

The Memory on the Desire is very limited. Orange have not helped this. I want to remove UNO, Tetris, That bowling game, The Traffic camera etc. In order to claw back that precious 10Mb or so, and be rid of the low disk space icon.
I've just rooted my phone. (can see and open the superuser icon). I followed this, and it worked: http://www.thedroiddemos.com/2010/0...desire-with-unrevoked-3-21-video-walkthrough/
Was under the impression that this would allow me to uninstall the Pre-loaded Orange apps. Clearly not. SO...
Installed titanium backup. Tried to uninstall UNO, Didnt work. Tried to Force uninstall uno, didnt work and scared me to death with a strange android logo + exclamation mark.
My phone is fine, but UNO is still there clinging to that precious Mb of space.
Please can someone explain how to get rid of this bloatware? Preferably without having to flash a new ROM.
Best thing is to just debrand the phone and put a stock WWE ROM onto it. then you can re-root that and have some fun.
Just download a stock ROM from HERE (I recommend 2.29.405.2), make a gold card and run the RUU file with the gold card in the phone and HTC Sync showing connected on the PC
Sorry to burst your bubble, but uninstalling those apps wont give you ANY extra space you can use, neither will flashing a different rom.
The orange bloatware is on the system partition, you want space on the data partition.
The only way to get more space is apps2sd. I recommended flashing a custom rom that supports olschool apps2sd and partition your sdcard.
But flashing a stock ROM will at least get rid of them!
Well... thats me a bit gutted then.
Does this mean that all the ringtones/notifications are also on the System Partition?
The low disk space icon has been a real pain. My contract is only a tenner a month. Might just wait till after xmas and get the new Desire HD.
Was watching a video on Youtube about root explorer, and how that might be an option to remove preloaded guff, but I guess it was a different carrier.
Cheers for the help guys.
Yes, the internal memory is for apps you download and data for apps you use on the phone
Look in the forum for " HOW TO: Delete System Applications On Rooted Phones"
They can be deleted and it does get space back !...
I got rid of all the odd demo's etc... and the media ( rigntones etc )... fab... and yes my phone is fast once more !!...
A new rom ...if you want .. no need ...
but you have to be ROOT !!! ( unrevoked + gold card )
It does NOT get the space back, System apps are on the /system partition which downloaded apps aren't saved to
You might get some space back (if your lucky) by going into application settings and clear data for these apps. Will probably only be a small amount though.
Cheers m8, have been through and done that.
One other question... if its not possible to delete these apps to get more space and be rid of the "low disk space" notification... is there a way to stop the notification showing so early? It seems to pop up once I get to about 15mb... it doesnt really need to be there till im down to the last 5mb does it?
It's true that you won't get space back by deleting apps form /system but you can move apps (that don't update often) from /data to /system to fill the system partition again and gain some space back in /data.

[Q] How can I run CopyProtect apps from SD, to save built in storage space??

Ok I'm sure most Slide owners have run into problems with space on the phone, luckily for most apps you can move them and run from the SD card (w/ 2.2).
However with other apps that i have paid for - "documents to go" and and a few others labeled as "copy protected", even as root, I cant seem to find a way to move the apps to SD and run them from the external storage. I have no interest in pirating apps... but the ones i have paid for i think i should be able to run them from wherever... and my slide is seriously running out of space... as once you get the dreaded "low space warning" certain google and other apps fail to work / sync properly...
Does anyone have any ideas suggestions to circumvent and RUN the "copy protected" apps from the SDcard (I dont care about backing up apps... just want to run the apps i paid for from the SD card)
Also I have noticed that some google apps that can be downloaded from the market (maps, etc) also cannot be moved to SD... Additionally i have found that when there is a new version of an app available the new app sometimes does not ' get rid of ' or ' replace ' the old app so even small apps can take up a lot of space unless apps are periodically un-installed and then reinstalled.. for instance last time i checked "opera MINI" app was taking up 10MB, (with cache cleaned etc...) but after uninstall and re-install of "Opera Mini" now its like 1.1MB...
But it would really help to figure out how to move & run my paid apps from the SD card...

Look for Dark Tremors Apps2SD in the development section. This will create a partition on your SD card that will allow apps be be moved. Unlike the default Apps2SD in CM, this should allow those specific apps to be moved.
is there any new updates on how to do this i tried installing dark tremors - but could not get it to work.... has there been any progress in this area? Is there some special way to install/use dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip?
HEY dud have you ever tried data2ext, it partitions a space in your memory card to not only install apps2sd, but that extra data that is eating up your phone space. I do not know if this will fix your copy protected issue, but before my phone only had 150mb space MAX! (on CM7 by the way, wtf!?!?) after i did the data 2 ext, my phone has over 472mb of free space and i have well over 50-100 apps installed and it takes no more than 70mb! (and i dont even have all of my apps on sd yet, it is about 5 or 6 apps with well over 10mb-20mb still on the phone memory. search these forums and i promise you it is on here!!!
if this helps, would u mind hittin the thanks button

How to solve "low on space" on Samsung Xcover

I have a rooted Samsung Xcover (GT-S5690). The phone memory is only about 150 MB which filled up during my first day of phone use. The phone includes a 8 GB SD card, however, and I've already moved all the allowed apps to it, yet I'm still helplessly out of space; I cannot even update my existing apps like dropbox, etc.
I've read that there's a hack to increase the 150 MB space to 750 MB (the extra space would obviously come from the SD card), but the specific advice I read was for HTC Incredible in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488351
So is that thread applicable to the Samsung Xcover, or is there another easier way to solve the "low on space" problem?
Thanks in advance.
Side note: The above thread suggested using Rom Manager to backup phone, but when I "Flash ClockworkMod" it says to confirm phone model, but my model is not available. (It lists Samsung Epic4G and Samsung GalaxyS i9000 as possible options). Any alternative?
anyone?
mods: please add a question mark to the thread title (I forgot and cannot edit the title now).

I am using Link2SD four almost four months now and I can tell that all problems regarding small internal memory have been solved.
thanks for the guide, i will try it soon on my samsung xcover phone (running android 2.3.6).
i take it this will wipe all the apps i have installed so far. is there a way to backup/restore the apps so as to avoid reinstalling everything? (samsung kies only makes a backup of my contacts on this phone).
Use Titanium Backup Pro to save/restore your apps.

Link2SD is indeed a very useful app for low storage space, but be careful what apps you move to sd.
It's safe to move apps you installed, but avoid moving apps already installed on your phone when you bought it.
what did you use to root?
sorry it's not related but what did you use to root? because i searched for hours and ended up bricking my phone! nightmare. got it replaced from the shop. thanks

[problem] Convert2Ext4 issues

Hello,
I used this thread just the other day to install the convert2ext4 no_data_limit_dalvik_moved mod on my Droid Incredible with Cyanogenmod 7.2 on it, using CWM and following the steps. Everything seemed to work fine, except now I notice some inconsistencies and issues:
The ~150mb data/data definitely got moved into the bigger, 750mb internal storage partition, but the 150mb data/data doesn't seem to have been allotted appropriately, and the internal storage still shows 750mb and the move of the data filled up the remainder of the space I had available (I have since made more space, approx 90mb available atm). Also, when I run the "mount | grep ext4" command in the terminal, it displays the two lines as it should. Additionally, some of my apps had gone missing. They didn't show up in my app drawer or under installed apps, or any other app manager I used. I used the dalvik wipe zip from that same thread, and rebooted again. This time, different apps were missing, some that had been mia were back and others were gone.
I was getting force closes constantly before installing the mod, despite uninstalling 10+ apps in an effort to stop it, and the mod DID stop that issue.
I tried to search for anyone with a similar issue but had no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

yes read above thread for which application is safe to remove, but as per title of thread
if you are doing this to make space then note, these applications stores in System ROM and making free space on system ROM, you can not use that space to replace other user application.
many ppl removing this (bloatware) to enhance performance by preventing them to run in background, though it is also debate whether really how much this help. b''coz android itself have some function to keep process running in background to recall it fast. so if you remove bloatware, that will be replaced by other application till android feel RAM if full, and same time android will autokill background process to make more free space available.
Since your device is root, use Directory Bind to put big data from internal to SD. For instance, i use it for Wild Blood, saving up to 2Gb of internal space. The game take only a longer time to launch.
Instead of deleting apps and risking seeing my device brick, i use the Android 4.1 freeze option, i think it's safer to use it, you can't freeze needed system apps.
Deleting apps is not as useful as doing it with other phones since there is around 780Mb of free system space. To free internal memory, with Titanium you can move apps from internal to system.
If you use Instagram a lot, move Instagram pictures from /storage/sdcard0/Pictures to sd card. Setup the camera to write to SD card.
Ofcourse you can use this space? What prevents you from making regular user apps to system apps?
I would suggest freezing apps first with Titanium, then after several days, if nothing happens, you can remove them. I used to do this all the time on my DHD and do it for a few apps on my N7.
