I have notice that my Amazon Fire TV keeps restarting. I have notice this over 2 to3 times a day. The FTV feels warm and I was wondering, if anyone experience or read about overheating issues (I'm guessing). My FTV is rooted and the software version is "511070220". I thought it might be a XBMC Skin but I tried the Amber, Convergence and the Confluence but no success. Do anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue?
Mine restarts to.
Did you find out what it was?
i don't have this problem but i have only had my aftv for few weeks. It could be overheating, my fire tv sit tv desk but open area.
Have you tried keeping the fire tv unplug for few hours and start it again and keep the fire tv in open area and see if that helps?
Also, how long have you had your firetv?
Thanks

Why specifically do you need to reboot? (Audio issues, freezes, ?) It might make a difference in the finding the right person to diagnose. Does it sleep or does it stay on overnight?

yes the fire tv goes to sleep but in the morning The fire tv is non responsive cant do anything with remote no lights on front and blank screen.
Try using CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your bluetooth keyboard.
I found it by accident -- it will actually reset the Fire TV instantly.
I've had the same problem on both my unrooted devices.
I usually reboot using the remote (hold down the main clicking button + play)
Is you firetv usually idle with kodi running? i always have kodi running when this happens
I don't have a Fire TV, but I have had this problem with my Fire TV Stick, which was hooked to my Samsung TV and now my Vizio TV. Every time I go to use the Fire stick, I have to unplug it from power and plug it back in. It is very annoying. I don't get any messages, just a black screen.

I have the same problem. It seems to be getting worse. Pretty much everytime i use it it happens.
This happens to me as well. When plugged into my VIZIO tv, and running Kodi 17.2, the Fire TV will spontaneously enter a reboot cycle and will remain there until I unplug the power, wait 2 minutes and plug it in again. I have the new Fire TV 4k (hanging dongle), but this also happened when i had a quad core Fire TV Stick.. my original Fire TV Stick (with Voice Remote) continues to operate without issue to this day, albeit much slower since Amazon removed the Youtube app.
Oddly, the same device does NOT suffer from this issue if I plug it into my LG tv... Could it be an issue with the HDMI port (Port 1 (ARC) that I am plugged into??
Glad to know im not alone. Sometimes it will last for days, sometimes not.
I do use "advanced task killer" and "fast reboot" to kill kodi, netflix, firefox etc when Im not using them.
Guys, i used to have exact same problem and luckily was able to fix it. In my case as soon as the aftv goes in sleep mode it reboots in recovery mode . So because i have the TWRP customer recovery the box is not able to apply that update because is not the stock recovery. the only way to get it back to home GUI is to reboot the box from recovery. That was extremely annoying for me. A while ago i used to block the updates from amazon.com by using opendns, but stopped using it so the box becomes open for updates which automatically get downloaded on the box. Because im rooted there is a easy way of blocking the updates on the box itself by using Method 1 http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/. However this will stop working if you factory reset the box, if you do so you'll have to apply the blocking procedure again.
After the blocking is done just upgrade the box to the latest prerooted firmware from rbox and you're set. this is the link to the latest pre-rooted custom firmware for aftv1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337.
i hope that helps.
To add to stutunaru, Method 5 is equally important to apply through TWRP, after a fresh ROM flash and before the first full system boot.

Hi,
I've noticed that when my fire stick is on sleep mode but I have not used it for a while, when I then go to turn it on to watch something, I find out that kodi has removed the beast from my fire stick so therefore I am greeted to just a blue screen and nothing else on it!
This is really annoying because twice now I've had to restore everything back onto my fire stick.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
I'm hoping someone can help me
Andrew
sometimes my fire tv 2 hangs when i choose a tv series and pick a episode. the screen goes black and "[episode name] is loading" is displayed but nothing happens after that, it just stays this way for minutes.
if i exit that screen and choose the same episode again, it loads fine immediately.
the strange thing is that it does not happen all the time, but about ~30% of attempts.
does anybody have an idea what could be the problem here and how to solve it?
the fire tv is attached via lan cable. dhcp or fixed ip does not seem to make a difference......

Did you happen to block the OTA updates? I've got the same problem and it didn't start happening until I blocked OTA's.
no i did not block updates at all.
the strange thing is that the problem occurs randomly and that it really only affects choosing episodes.
the home screen for example is always displayed immediately....
I have a new Amazon Fire TV Stick. My TV only has 1 accessible HDMI port as the other one is on the back of the TV and I can't get to it easily. I have my cable box and my Fire stick hooked to a HDMI splitter. I do have to manually push the switch to move from the cable box to the Fire stick...its supposed to switch automatically...but that isn't happening...I can live with that. But the big issue is this. Scenerio...I'm watching a program on the Fire Stick and pause the program then turn my TV off to go to sleep. The next morning when I turn the TV on the screen will be flashing from black to grainy white. I can manually switch to the cable box and watch reg. tv. If I manually switch back to the Fire stick it will still be flashing. If I unplug the Fire stick and plug it back in it will work normally. Why does it do this and how can I avoid it. Thanks.
