[Q] Fire TV 1 - Custom IP/DNS Ethernet settings not working - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has Amazon 'broken' the ability to manually configure the Ethernet IP address or DNS server on an Amazon Fire TV 1 with the latest update?
I can input my custom setttings but when I click continue (>”) it quits to the settings menu and doesn’t save.
Any ideas why?
I have tried a factory reset but the problem persists.
Fire OS version: 5.2.6.6 (617513220)

You are not alone - but it doesnt seem to affect everyone...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/forget-wired-network-fire-tv-2nd-gen-t3845710

Can confirm that the network problem remains after the latest firmware update (5.2.6.7 build value of 623529620).
Tried looking on the Amazon site to see if I could report the bug - but looks too hard....

It's been a while but I've made a break through regarding this issue. It was my broadband hub blocking the IP address I was trying to assign my Fire TV.
Spent countless hours trying to figure this out and it was something simple.
Ah well, you live and learn...

Fire TV updated even though I have it blocked through my router

I have a ASUS RT-N10P running Tomato Firmware 1.28 by Shibby. My Fire TV was not rooted. I attached a picture of the access restrictions.
I know the block is working most of the time because if I try to download the stock firmware from here ( aftvnews .com/software/ ) I get a webpage not available error. The problem seems to occur as soon as my router boots up. There seems to be a lag for the access restrictions kick in. I first noticed it on the 51.1.1.0_user_511070220 update a while back, I turned on my Fire TV and out of the blue it was updated. Thinking back, it was after a power outage. I didn't think much of it. Well last night I was messing around with my network and power cycled my router/modem. I went to use my Fire TV later on and sure enough, the 51.1.3.0_user_513011520 update got through. I know for a fact it was on 51.1.1.0 earlier before I rebooted my router.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Anyone else have this problem with Tomato Firmware?
my unit also updated with the router blocking and we had a few storms loosing power temporarily ,It is starting to make sense now but i with purchase a ouya as a second unit and no need for blocking root but the fire tv is still a awesome unit without root alas i will miss the root option
It's best to go the simple route of disabling via PackageManager:
Code:
pm disable com.amazon.dcp

Yeah but you have to be rooted for that, no?
I ended up making a free OpenDNS account, changed the DNS servers on my Fire TV (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220), and blocked the appropriate URL's from OpenDNS. Sounds like it's more reliable then just blocking through your router. I don't really care about rooting but I do not want Amazon to somehow break XBMC. That's all I use my Fire TV for 95% of the time.

Kodi has different IP to AFTV

Hi All,
I have an issue that is driving me nuts and have searched the wonderful web with no answer. I have 2 AFTVs that are running Kodi. They both are on Fire OS 5.0.5 (537174420) and both run Kodi 15.2. The issue I have is that 1 of the units Kodi can connect to my shares and can be controller via http and shows the same IP address as the AFTV. The other unit has is not able to do this and Kodi has an IP address of 192.168.49.1 with no default gateway whilst AFTV has an IP of 192.168.10.23. I have tried connecting via WIFI and ethernet with no difference and all tests have been done with the units hardwired. The only differance between the 2 that I can find is when I go into Kodi system info under operating system the working unit has: Android 5.1.0 API level 22 (Kernel: Linux 3.4.0 perf-gbb9e58e) and the none working unit has: Android 5.1.0 API level 22 ( Linux 3.10.61+).
Now if I load Firestarter on the none working unit and and go to system I can see under IP address that the 192.168.49.1 is there and it has a MAC address with p2p-p2p0-0 at the end and this mac is not visable in my router. I can also see the IP address that the AFTV shows of 192.168.10.23 and can also see this mac in my router.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how I may fix this issue?
Many thanks for your time,
DoXe

Are your Fire TV's Fire TV 2 or Fire TV 1? Only reason I ask is because the Fire TV 2 uses wifi for the remote and that may be what ip address you're seeing. The ip for the remote. Don't quote me on that though, just a hunch.

Sorry did not even think or look at that......
The working FTV is a Gen 1 (I think) and the none working is Gen 2. The working unit has the bigger power adapter end and is model CL1130
I've also been told this from a reliable source on here, it's annoying but yes it's the wifi remote it sees, don't know how to fix that though?

Now what confuses me is that there has been another post on the Kodi forum with a similar issue that only happens when the op is hardwired and the equipment is a Sony Android TV 49X8309C using google play.
I have done a scan and found that I have a new wireless connection called DIRECT-43-FIRETV_b26f which I assume the remote is connecting to (it is a WPA2 Personal secure connection). Now I just need to work out how to stop Kodi jumping on it.

I do have a fix (all be it a pain) that has worked for me. I install Kodi 16 and the turn of wireless radio. Then I use adbFire as a remote and launch Kodi. Once Kodi has lauched turn on HTTP control and then use 1 of the apps out there to control it. Works great as long as there is no power down.
Dont know why I did not think of this earlier and only posted in case someone else has this issue and wants a temp fix.

I have the same issue.... I have a series 1 AFTV and a series 2 AFTV that were running Kodi 15.1 sideloaded with Firestarter. I decided to upgrade to Kodi 17. I picked the series 2 box first, loaded Kodi with adbfire, and now I cannot get it to connect with my network to install addons. I tried adbfire reload of Kodi 16.1, then 15.1 and all fail with 192.168.49.1 I even tried loading Kodi from a browser. It's either Amazon maintenance of the FTV box or adbfire. Can anyone fix this or do I have a Kodi brick? PS. I cannot get the series 2 to pair with the series 1 remote.
So I have an Amazon fire TV 2 stick running kodi 17.6 and the same problem. Here's what worked for me. Super easy.
Go to Amazon device information and use the IP address of the device rather than what Kodi says. It says the wrong ip address in Kodi, but everything works perfectly by using the IP address of the device.
This works for send to Kodi app and yatse app.

This doesn't work if you are trying to add a windows share to the kodi on a stick. It won't see the windows system because of it being on different subnet.

I see. That makes sense. I wasn't using it for shares. Just to send a link to Kodi to play.
Following for future reference.

Authentication problem on 2nd Gen

Hi Guys,
This is a bit lengthy description, but I am pulling my hair out trying to get this fixed. First of all, I live in Europe, but have my Amazon Prime account on my US address in San Diego. There is no problems with my account, and it works fine from other devices.
I will give details below, but the problem is that the Amazon APP store/page will not load on the FireTV. It states An authentication error has occured, Press Home.... Retry. Same for the games page.
Prime movies work fine (While I keep it behind my proxy).
The Software version is Fire OS 5.2.1.1 (551203220)
Region setting and time is set to San Diego, CA.
I have deactivated my device several time on Amazon and re-logged in, cleared caches, etc.
I was not able to root this, or I would have.
More info:
I have reset to factory settings several times.
I use a proxy to reach Amazon.com, which worked before the FireTV upgraded itself (my own sniproxy install on a VPS in Los Angeles,CA) and it works fine from my MAC, PC and XBOX One.
If I bypass the proxy, I can get the App store to work and the Apps (Netflix, etc) can be installed. However, my Prime Video ceases to work, even if I place it behind the proxy again. It continues to say what I can watch while abroad. ONly when I factory reset it again will Prime Video work.
I also use Kodi, installed via abdfire. All of this works. However, I cannot seem to get Netflix to install this way. Otherise, I could live with it.
I know my setup is special and not easy to troubleshoot. I noticed that the Amazon Video on iPad also acts strange behind the proxy now. I cannot get it to work unless I use VPN to my VPS server and change the region settings in the IOS.
I use a seperate Asus router (Tomato) for this connection. It forwards *amazon.com to my server in LA. SOowhen I do a a nslookup on anything amazon.com, my VPS server answers. As I said it functiions perfectly from all other devices, except the FireTV and IOS APP.
Did they change the domain on the Amazon App Store in the new version of Fire OS?
I am not sure anyone is in my same situation, but I would appreciate any input.
Thanks a lot for reading.
Rick

fire tv box 1 and vpn use

Hi, I have recently the Fire TV Box 1. My problem is that I would like to use a VPN service so far, all attempts were without success. Unfortunately, the box is not rooted.
I have a Fritz box and have read something about a VPN tunnel that you can create because I have almost no experience with it and I do not know what possibilities there are so I ask for help. Maybe someone had the same problem and could help me.

Youtube casting stpped working on Firestick

After moving to a new router which assigned different lan ip addresses to my unrooted fire hd tablet and uprooted firetv stick basic I can no longer cast from vanced or YouTube to the stick, it sees my stick but refuses to connect. I can connect using the tv number code method but have to do this every time as its not remembered so id like to get casting working again. I tried:
Restarting fire tv stick
Uninstalling and reinstalling vanced (current stable version) after deleting its data and cache
Ditto for Smart youtube tv on Fire stick, which is the app vance used to cast to.
I suspect that somewhere the old ip for the Fire stick is stored and blocking access. Any ideas appreciated!

Thanks for the reply.
Well I have no need for VPN so never tried any form of it but I can tell you I can use Easy Fire Tools fine with new router to sideload smart YouTube tv. It did require me to correct the ip address to the new ip assigned to the stick after I changed routers. I can also use Fire TV remote with the new router. Any specific app you want me to test?
