Kodi has different IP to AFTV - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have an issue that is driving me nuts and have searched the wonderful web with no answer. I have 2 AFTVs that are running Kodi. They both are on Fire OS 5.0.5 (537174420) and both run Kodi 15.2. The issue I have is that 1 of the units Kodi can connect to my shares and can be controller via http and shows the same IP address as the AFTV. The other unit has is not able to do this and Kodi has an IP address of 192.168.49.1 with no default gateway whilst AFTV has an IP of 192.168.10.23. I have tried connecting via WIFI and ethernet with no difference and all tests have been done with the units hardwired. The only differance between the 2 that I can find is when I go into Kodi system info under operating system the working unit has: Android 5.1.0 API level 22 (Kernel: Linux 3.4.0 perf-gbb9e58e) and the none working unit has: Android 5.1.0 API level 22 ( Linux 3.10.61+).
Now if I load Firestarter on the none working unit and and go to system I can see under IP address that the 192.168.49.1 is there and it has a MAC address with p2p-p2p0-0 at the end and this mac is not visable in my router. I can also see the IP address that the AFTV shows of 192.168.10.23 and can also see this mac in my router.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how I may fix this issue?
Many thanks for your time,

Are your Fire TV's Fire TV 2 or Fire TV 1? Only reason I ask is because the Fire TV 2 uses wifi for the remote and that may be what ip address you're seeing. The ip for the remote. Don't quote me on that though, just a hunch.

Sorry did not even think or look at that......
The working FTV is a Gen 1 (I think) and the none working is Gen 2. The working unit has the bigger power adapter end and is model CL1130

I've also been told this from a reliable source on here, it's annoying but yes it's the wifi remote it sees, don't know how to fix that though?

Now what confuses me is that there has been another post on the Kodi forum with a similar issue that only happens when the op is hardwired and the equipment is a Sony Android TV 49X8309C using google play.
I have done a scan and found that I have a new wireless connection called DIRECT-43-FIRETV_b26f which I assume the remote is connecting to (it is a WPA2 Personal secure connection). Now I just need to work out how to stop Kodi jumping on it.

I do have a fix (all be it a pain) that has worked for me. I install Kodi 16 and the turn of wireless radio. Then I use adbFire as a remote and launch Kodi. Once Kodi has lauched turn on HTTP control and then use 1 of the apps out there to control it. Works great as long as there is no power down.
Dont know why I did not think of this earlier and only posted in case someone else has this issue and wants a temp fix.

I have the same issue.... I have a series 1 AFTV and a series 2 AFTV that were running Kodi 15.1 sideloaded with Firestarter. I decided to upgrade to Kodi 17. I picked the series 2 box first, loaded Kodi with adbfire, and now I cannot get it to connect with my network to install addons. I tried adbfire reload of Kodi 16.1, then 15.1 and all fail with 192.168.49.1 I even tried loading Kodi from a browser. It's either Amazon maintenance of the FTV box or adbfire. Can anyone fix this or do I have a Kodi brick? PS. I cannot get the series 2 to pair with the series 1 remote.

So I have an Amazon fire TV 2 stick running kodi 17.6 and the same problem. Here's what worked for me. Super easy.
Go to Amazon device information and use the IP address of the device rather than what Kodi says. It says the wrong ip address in Kodi, but everything works perfectly by using the IP address of the device.
This works for send to Kodi app and yatse app.

This doesn't work if you are trying to add a windows share to the kodi on a stick. It won't see the windows system because of it being on different subnet.

I see. That makes sense. I wasn't using it for shares. Just to send a link to Kodi to play.
Following for future reference.

I have a similar issue with an additional issue, I cannot get to the shared files on my pc, but also my remote stops working after a few seconds (have to use my Tablet aftv app.)
I've looked around the web not sure about a fix. I reset the aftv 2nd gen and nothing. any help would be appreciated.

firetv xbmc mysql issues

Having some interesting issues with my firetv with xbmc that I never had when using an apple tv with xbmc.
I run a mysql server. It is running and XBMC Attaches to it perfectly.
But my issues are that as follows
1. Watched state disappears if fire tv is rebooted
2. cannot resume my movies from where I left off
3. some posters revert to poster I don't even have.
Wondering if anyone has anything I can try to see where the problem is.
Mysql runs on my mac pro, with the xbmc media files store on the hard drives there.
My fire tv uses sources.xml which has all my sources mapped.
Content settings don't stay on my setup for type of content.
My main concern is it is as if the database for xvmc is wiped every time I reboot the fire tv...
This never happened on openelec with my apple tv 1st gen running 13.2 and never happened when on eden on apple tv 1st gen original os, and never happened on xbmc 13.2 on an android mx2 box I had.
Everything was working with resume, watched state, etc on the other systems that ran 13.2, so not sure why the fire tv is doing it.
Fire tv is rooted, updates blocked, boots into XBMC using the xbmc launcher.
Advanced settings file has all the settings and I know it is using it because I have checked and it is using it.
I am at a loss as to why it seems as if my database is constantly resetting on mysql....

[Q] Fire TV XBMC Stutter/Jitter

I have spent about 3 weeks with my Fire TV now and have scoured the internet for a solution but have had no luck thus far. Out of all my research thought this forum seem to have the most relevant answers, thus why I am posting here and hopefully somebody will be able to assist before I get rid of it.
First I can stream movies and television shows on Netflix and XBMC with no problems, running Kodi 14.1.
When I try and stream a movie or television show from my Windows server I get a very annoying stutter/jitter when both wired and wireless.
This happens with 720p or 1080p. I do not get any dropped or skipped frames while running codecinfo.
I have changed the video acceleration and playback settings numerous times with no luck. ie. hardware, software video acceleration, libstagefright, mediacodec etc. messed with audio and several other things that I found suggested on the internet.
Now prior to this I ran everything wireless over a WDTV with no issues at all, video nive and smooth. Should I just give up on the Fire TV and go back to the WDTV?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I had similar issues. Did you try SPMC instead of Kodi? Also, you might want to try using a advancedsetings.xml file to correctly set the caching and read-ahead.
EDIT: Here's mine for Kodi 14.1:
Code:
<!-- tuxen -->
<advancedsettings>
<network>
<curlclienttimeout>45</curlclienttimeout>
<cachemembuffersize>104857600</cachemembuffersize>
<readbufferfactor>10</readbufferfactor>
</network>
<gui>
<algorithmdirtyregions>3</algorithmdirtyregions>
<nofliptimeout>0</nofliptimeout>
</gui>
<videoscanner>
<ignoreerrors>true</ignoreerrors>
</videoscanner>
</advancedsettings>
How are the videos shared from your Windows server? What protocol are you using?
Have you tried a different protocol? I use SMB from my Win7 machine to FireTV and it's always worked well.

I had some issues with stuttering as well. I changed my router and the new one did not support Samba, so I switched to NFS and things got better. I still occasionally get a buffering break now, but I can't be sure if it was the new router or NFS. Everything I've read is that NFS is much faster than Samba.
Thank you all for your answers.
Sizzlechest; as for the advancedsetings.xml I did set that with other setting I found on the internet, I will give yours a try. Can someone tell me if I can edit my existing advancedsettings.xml and if so how? or do I just create a new one and push it to my Fire TV
As for what protocol I'm using on my windows server I'm not sure. I am accessing it via samba share on my fire tv, I couldn't seem to find the server using NFS, but will try it again.
It's a Windows Homer Server with Power Pack 3 2009
on an Acer Aspire Easystore.
I've read that SPMC is better on the Fire TV then KODI and have planned to try it, I just need to find some install instructions for it on the Fire TV, I have some computer background but am fairly new to the XBMC scene.

There won't be an advancedsettings.xml file on a regular install. It has to be added.
Ok here is another strange one.
I brought the fire tv to my basement and hooked it up to me Epson Power Lite Home Cinema. I do not have a wired connection here so I had to run it wireless. Well it played everything perfectly!
What I was playing on before was a Sony KDL EX-500, could my TV be the problem?
This makes no sense to me, it's it something to do with the refresh rate of the tv, or a possible setting in the tv?
Ok I solved the problem .....My Sony TV has a feature called Cinemotion. I had played with the Motionflow both on and off and that didn't help the problem. Turns out Cinemotion was on and this is what was causing the stutter with XBMC. It had nothing to do with Fire TV and XBMC like I had thought and spent the last week blaming....thanks again for your help.
Cheers

Sky go app for Fire TV "hdmi not supported"?

Hi I am currently using a gen 2 fire TV and recently signed up to sky. I sideloaded the sky go app using the app from my note 4 and anytime I try to play something on my fire tv I get the HDMI not supported error. I saw the list of working apps thread and it said sky go does work but I always keep getting this error. Any way to solve this?? Maybe a previous version of the app can be uploaded? Any help would be great!
Most mobile apps from cable or satellite providers don't allow you to view over a wired connection. So, the first thing to try is disconnecting your Ethernet cable to the router and use WiFi only. The app should then recognize your Fire TV as a mobile device.

My fire tv is connected through wifi
i use this apk on my aftv2 (germany)
http://www.netzwelt.de/software-download/37855-sky-go-android-apk.html
Just googled: sky go for android tv
device is connected via lan and it is working, but u need a mouse (btw. it's more easy to navigate)
I've got 2 fire tv gen 1 models running the latest sky go app ( ver 5.0.4.9) downloaded from aptoide and both Fire TV's are connected by ethernet. Everything on sky go runs fine....except for sky news. That's where I get the HDMI not supported error as well, but as far as sky sports or sky movies or anything else on sky go, everything plays fine. I'm running the app with a wireless touchpad / keyboard ( logitech ) connected using a usb dongle.

Hi can someone please post a working sky go apk
Guys, just install Aptoide It's not a questionable website. It's an alternative to the Google app store and works well with the fire tv. Been using it for years.
Thanks Callanish I've tried a few versions but none work I've even transferred the app from my first generation fire tv using es file explorer to my 4k fire tv and i still get the Hdmi not supported message I'll try this later

Just guessing, but I wonder if it's an HDMI HDCP issue you're coming across due to the copyright protection handshake between the fire tv and your tv. I've got two fire TV 1st gen's running on two Sony TV's and 1 fire stick running on a Vizio bedroom tv and need to use a bluetooth keyboard / touchpad with the stick and usb wireless keyboard / touchpad for the Fire TV's in order to make skygo function properly since there's no official Fire TV version, but my only HDMI 'not supported' issue I consistently get with Skygo on the Fire TV boxes and stick is when trying to access Sky news. Every movie, sports, other channels available on Skygo work fine.....except for sky news, and like you, I get that HDMI not supported message when I try to stream it. Also using a proxy to make it all work, but I'm not experiencing a channel wide HDMI 'not supported message' in the app like you're coming across. 5.1.0.47 is the latest app version of Skygo. Hopefully it works for you or you figure out where the problem might be.
Tried this version Callanish same message hdmi not supported can't figure out what the hell the problem is I'm baffled how the hell is it working on my original fire tv set up exactly the same way but won't work on the 4k fire tv I'm totally stumped
I'm having to send it back now as i got a system update today and following the update i couldn't connect a bluetooth mouse the powerlight kept blinking or not appearing even when the fire tv was on and then the remote started going mental contacted amazon and they are sending a replacement tomorrow and added bonus I'm getting to keep the remote and they are giving me a £10 credit following the problems hopefully the new one is better
Hi Mollygeorge, how do I move files from my Amazon Fire TV stick to my new 2nd gen Amazon Fire TV?

So, basically what we can surmise from all this is that the Fire TV 2 boxes have aggressive HDCP copyright protection built in to prevent apps like Skygo from functioning. The options remaining, imho, are either A) purchase another Fire TV 1 box used or new if you can find one B) purchase a new Fire TV stick as it's still a version 1 device and I can vouch that it still works with Skygo 2 C) run one of the many Android boxes out there, sideload skygo and do some testing, or D) Do what I did and run a Intel Nuc; (a windows type box) or something similar, and hook it up to a usb Wireless keyboard and run skygo through a browser. That's what I use as a backup option. Yes, you could also use a computer connected with an hdmi cable to a tv, but the Intel NUC, for me, streamlines the process. Probably impractical for your needs, but just want to point out another option. The Point is, unless some other people on the forum chime in telling you that they've gotten skygo to work on the Fire TV 2, and how they've done it, then it might be time to throw in the towel on this one and think about some other options. You know Amazon and Sky are going to continue to make it harder to do what we want, so it might be better to just find a box, like the Fire TV 1 or Fire TV stick and at least get Skygo working again.
For the record, I've got my Fire Tv boxes and stick blocked for any future Amazon firmware updates. I'm thinking that Amazon could introduce an update that prevents the Fire TV 1 and Stick from working with Skygo as well, so better safe than sorry.
Thanks for the reply Callanish I'm thinking I'll just leave it as it is and wait for someone to say wether on not there's a solution for sky go on the 4k version all my other apps bt nbcsn directv play flawlessly and i can't be bothered sending it back again and setting another one up from scratch thanks for trying to help

[Q] Fire TV 1 - Custom IP/DNS Ethernet settings not working

Has Amazon 'broken' the ability to manually configure the Ethernet IP address or DNS server on an Amazon Fire TV 1 with the latest update?
I can input my custom setttings but when I click continue (>”) it quits to the settings menu and doesn’t save.
Any ideas why?
I have tried a factory reset but the problem persists.
Fire OS version: 5.2.6.6 (617513220)
You are not alone - but it doesnt seem to affect everyone...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/forget-wired-network-fire-tv-2nd-gen-t3845710
Can confirm that the network problem remains after the latest firmware update (5.2.6.7 build value of 623529620).
Tried looking on the Amazon site to see if I could report the bug - but looks too hard....
It's been a while but I've made a break through regarding this issue. It was my broadband hub blocking the IP address I was trying to assign my Fire TV.
Spent countless hours trying to figure this out and it was something simple.
Ah well, you live and learn...

Youtube casting stpped working on Firestick

After moving to a new router which assigned different lan ip addresses to my unrooted fire hd tablet and uprooted firetv stick basic I can no longer cast from vanced or YouTube to the stick, it sees my stick but refuses to connect. I can connect using the tv number code method but have to do this every time as its not remembered so id like to get casting working again. I tried:
Restarting fire tv stick
Uninstalling and reinstalling vanced (current stable version) after deleting its data and cache
Ditto for Smart youtube tv on Fire stick, which is the app vance used to cast to.
I suspect that somewhere the old ip for the Fire stick is stored and blocking access. Any ideas appreciated!

Well I have no need for VPN so never tried any form of it but I can tell you I can use Easy Fire Tools fine with new router to sideload smart YouTube tv. It did require me to correct the ip address to the new ip assigned to the stick after I changed routers. I can also use Fire TV remote with the new router. Any specific app you want me to test?
