[Q] Launcher pro bricked my phone

Hi,
I have the Htc Desire android 2.1 with launcher pro. I loved it until recently it is showing that Launcher Pro has expired & it won't allow me to do anything. I restarted the phone, took out the battery but nothing seems to work. I am basically locked out because I trusted this product. Please help me out here, I would appreciate it. Again, htc Desire 2.1,launcher pro free version saying expired & opening up the browser only. I can't do anything else & I can't reboot as I would lose my contacts & data.
I tried looking at the solutions provided over the internet but nothing suits my situation. A lot of those solutions work for android 2.2 but I have 2.1 which I cannot update right now. Please help me people.
Thanks in advance. My phone is bricked until one of you guys can tell me a solution.
First of all that is not a brick. Second can you get in to settings? If yes, got to application management go to launcherpro and clear the defaults hit the home button and select the Sense launcher or download 'ClearDefaultHome' and clear the defaults. If that does not work you can do a factory reset but you will lose all your data.
And last where did you get that version of launcher pro? From the market?
Same problem here - but for the HTC Wildfire...
I'm having exactly the same problem - My version of Launcher pro was downloaded from the Android Market and has worked fine until this morning when it expired.
My phone will not let me access my home screen or any of my applications. When I press 'Home' it just takes me to my browser which contains an error message stating 'You do not have permission to access /index.php on this server. Additionall, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request'.
As I cannot access my home screen, I am unable to access my settings in order to manage my applications and uninstall Launcher Pro... Starting to panic now!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Thanks x
Not bricked.
Erm, your phone is not bricked.
Well the way i see it,
1) you could email the maker of launcher pro and explain your situation, though I think its more of a user error
2) Do what TheGhost1233 said, try to go into your settings, and select clear default on launcher pro app. Use htc sense again.
3) factory reset everything and set up everything once again
4) root and flash a new rom (Its more fun )
edit* For people who can't access their settings, try downloading another app that allows you to change settings.
If a factory reset is a to big of a step you could also try to remover launcherpro (in recovery) via ADB.
Thanks for your replies! As ghost1233 and friedkimchi suggest, I am unable to go into my settings or do absolute anything with the phone. I have the exact same problem as described by the other person in this thread of not being able to anything but just go to the browser which I cannot use because wifi is not enabled and cannot be because I can't access anything.
I bought the launcher pro from the android market and it was a free version which I have been using for months now. I seriously want to avoid the factory reset thing until I can because I do not want to lose the data. If I have to then I will but just trying to see if I can avoid it somehow. Nothing seems to be working now.
Yes The Ghost1233, factory reset is a big step because I would lose all my data and contacts. But then, what is ADB and I thought recovery meant factory reset.

Thanks, this seems helpful and points us in the direction where everyone is suggesting us to go to i.e. install ADB and uninstall Launcher pro in recovery mode. There is this video provided in this link which tells how to do that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1SOSXwkc_8
Is this what you guys think is the last resort we have here for this problem and if I install ADB, would that be make my phone rooted?
Thanks for all your help and replies!
No it won't root your phone but you will run in to the problem that your phone probably does not have USB debugging enabled.
But i suggest you follow the linked thread (the launcherpro forums) for further help.
I do not obviously want to run into any kind of problems. What do you suggest then. This is not something that I am choosing, I did not find any other options. Please suggest what would be my options given my situation. I am not a nerd so I do not know if I will be able to do all this installation thing properly or not. This was kind of a relief that this would not root my phone. I don't know why I am afraid of it but I really like the handset and I don't want it to be screwed because of anything.
Thanks
a coworker of mine had the same issue today. I'm just reposting the link from another website, since I typically come to xda to find answers to stuff like this... either manually type this into your ANDROID browser, or if you could somehow make it to this page from your phone, just click this link... from your phone lol
market://search?q=pnamerg.adw.launcher
it is the direct adwlauncher link to the android market!
hope this helps! =)

Yes, that's right. It was a free version that I have downloaded from the android market.
idk if some of you are still having the same problem but if you are, i got this from another forum and it seemed to work for them:
Hold down the 'home' key in order to start your native task manager.
You should see the Settings icon, probably in the bottom right, of your tasks.
If you don't see Settings, double-tap your Home key in order to open Voice Dialing. When it opens, say 'Open Settings.'
Once you're in Settings, go to Applications, and remove LauncherPro.
Hope this helps.

if that doesn't work you, and could open the browser type this in:
(it should download adw launcher)

ps. my cousin had this problem and search for a solution and found it, just thought i would share since. xda always helps me out
Hey, I tried doing all this except for the download thing but it does not work. I cannot download anything because wifi is disabled and there is no way I can enable it. If I could have had a back up of my data I would have probably tried the hard reset.
I really appreciate all you folks to try and help me out. I am still trying.

[Q] HTC Evo 4G (First time ROOT)

All i want to do is root my phone. I have read quite a few articles on it, as well as pros and cons. Searching was also done so don't attack me with the "use the search feature" line. Reading too deep into the rabbit hole proved that anything beyond rooting (although highly beneficial and likely to attempt in the future) was too overwhelming for my busy work schedule. I'm aware of the different methods to achieve root, but I'm still unsure as to whether or not i will lose any data at all, such as app, sms, contacts, call logs, etc.
Any info as to how to root my Evo without losing any data would be greatly appreciated. My main reason is to finally get rid of the Nova app along with others, and to have full control of my phone while i slowly learn from these forums.
P.S. I apologize for being #1,000,000 to ask on this topic.

Use unrevoked3. Its easy. Just follow instructions. U wont lose any data or apps or so forth unless u flash a new rom. Use titanium backup from market after u root phone to save apps and data.

Thanks for the quick response.
Now quick question which i couldn't find an answer for. After installing hboot was i supposed to disconnect my phone from usb? Also how do i exit the white menu where it says fastboot, recovery, clear storage etc.
bump! i hope i didnt screw the process up
bump? ok if you already managed to install the drivers, make sure your phone has usb debug on, you do that in settings, apps, development. also make sure you have othe sources checked, you do that on settings, apps.
no turn your antivirus off on your computer
if you installed htc sync uninstall it
now plug your phone to pc( if it prompts you to select type of connection only charge)
then right click on the file that is unrevoked and run as administrator, follow unscreen intructions and done.
mine was automatic so i didnt need to do anything after i ran it.
good luck

ok last question it says done but my phone is on a clockworkmod recovery screen how do i just load my phone up and use it.
sorry late reply you always get out of recovery with the reboot now option, also you should instal titanium back up so you can back up your apps and get busy box, which you need on your phone so it doesnt lag after root, once installed titanium , open it up, it will probably say you need root, if it does dont mind it you have root, at the bottom you will see a box that says problems, hit it and it will ask you to install busy box, hit yes and you are done, hope procedure is easy and you can do it if not click my user name and send me a message

Not sure what version you're running, but you should be able to go to Setting, Applications (Applications Manager) whatever you have.
Find Samsung Update, stop it and uncheck notifications.
Sorry, I thought it was assumed. Im on ver 4.1.2
Also, the update comes from att. Greyed out in
App manager. Now what?

With root not an option, not too sure....
I have ideas....
I'm really not sure if download has really been completed. You should have been prompted multiple times to accept the update, and the download.
Same goes for installing it, it requires multiple prompts and you must say continue.
So, the download gets saved in the /cache directory. If I'm right, and I should be, you should be able to power your phone down,
Then boot into stock recovery and clear cache which will delete the downloaded cache update file.
Boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER)
Picture of stock recovery
http://galaxys2root.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/att-galaxys2-unroot-11-690x404.jpg
You want to choose wipe cache partition.
Then when you boot back up, race over to Settings, Applications again and stop the update service. I'd leave notifications turned on for now just to watch what the update process is attempting.
The dl started on its own. Finished too I would bet. Tried killing dl by reboot.
No joy.att must really want us to have this-I had to fetch the 2 previous updates
As I mentioned. Now I have cont/pp dialogue every 8 hrs. Process for notification is
Com.wssyncmldm -afraid to use stock recovery- I dontknow that it wont goof up
Something else-and my cache directory shows empty. (Using es explorer)

You have to be root to really see what's in /cache.
Stock recovery really is harmless, for the most part. If you choose data/factory reset all of your installed apps (ones that you have downloaded and installed) are torched and your settings, like Google account info, mail setup etc.
Cleaning out /cache is a good thing.
Maybe someone else will stop by and have another suggestion, but since you said root is not an option, I can't think of another way right now to stop it from bugging.
Well, i suspected there was nothing i could do without root. something simple. the greyed out att update process
along with the attempt to force feed the update to me speaks volumes. to me. I've seen way too much of things i
don't like with this 4.3 silliness(improve my hardware, ok). they're going to have to do better than bug me every
8 hours to get me to install it....
thanks for the suggestions,

[Q] Apps force close automatically when input is required

Basically everything crashes for me whenever I need to type (and the keyboard is supposed to auto-pop up). Everything except for typing on a page in the browser or text messages. I can't connect to WiFi. I recently did a factory reset on my phone for exactly that reason and it DIDN'T help and now I'm stuck without being able to connect to my Gmail account (because everything crashes) and I can literally use my phone just for calls and texts. I tried everything there is to try, or at least everything I've read on the internet.
First off, I'm a noob when it comes to using XDA and adb shell and all that stuff, I just learned about it today and decided to try it in order to fix my phone so I ran the adb shell and everything and typed the commands from an instruction I saw on your forum, but those were the ones to clear clipboard cache on a samsung phone and thus fix the keyboard crashing problem that one of the members had. That didn't work for me, I rooted my phone before that, of course, but there is no clipboard file on the Arc S (at least from what I've seen). I tried clearing cache of the keyboard apps, disabling all kinds of stuff, resetting my phone, pulling my SD stick out (because it might be in conflict with an app that I have installed on it) and it STILL doesn't work. Please. I am desperate.

i think the problem is that your kexboard is faulty. not your ram management.
just a few questions: whats your rom?? have you root / CWM?? maybe i can post you other keyboard & we try if that works
OR:

Question No cell service after update to 11.2.4.4AA while keeping root

I'll try to keep this short. Global OP9 Pro on 11.2.2.2AA, bootloader unlocked, rooted w/Magisk. Been trying to find the best way to update. Decided on trying this:
1. Un-rooting by going in to Magisk and doing UNINSTALL->RESTORE IMAGES
2. Installing 11.2.4.4AA OTA incremental update from within phone settings (NOT from OxygenUpdater as that did not detect 11.2.4.4AA as available).
3. Did not reboot, went back in to Magisk, did Install to Inactive Slot (after OTA)
The phone booted up and everything was OK, except cell service. Icon in the status bar showed as if there was no SIM card inserted. Tapping on SETTINGS->WIFI & NETWORK->SIM & NETWORK, it did not open and simply immediately brought me back to the WIWI & NETWORK screen. I was able to get cell service back by going in to Magisk and doing step 1 again above, and then rebooting. However, I lost root. Now when I try to root, I lose cell service. When I lose cell server, every few mins there would be a popup saying com.android.phone stopped working and the only two options I had were APP INFO and FORCE STOP. Neither helped, though I noticed that going to APP INFO brought me to the APP INFO page of PHONE SERVICES and not the PHONE app as I was expecting.
I tried to download the 11.2.4.4AA boot images in the thread here by Steve007. I initially tried using (always fastboot boot, not fastboot flash boot) the provided magisk-patched boot image in that thread, but it resulted in the same SIM issue. I then used the stock boot img file and phone booted with SIM working. Copied that boot img to the phone, patched it with Magisk, then booted it (again, fastboot boot), SIM issue again. Booted stock boot img again to regain SIM service. Leaving like this for now as I don't want to wipe the phone and need cell service.
I read somewhere in the forum (after I had tried all of this) that someone said to first disable Magisk modules before proceeding with step 1 of the process I followed, not sure if that would've made a difference. Would love to re-gain root. Any help is much appreciated.
Do you have any modules installed in Magisk? Had the same issue when updating my son's OP6T and had Qualcomm Wifi Bonding module installed. Since this does modify the Wifi driver, I lost Wifi connectivity after an OS update. Solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the module, as this takes the original driver and modifies it. Maybe you have some module that messes with connectivity?

That must be it then. I had some modules installed, including one that installed the OP apps (contacts, messages, phone) and I believe that one may be the culprit as I had the OP dialer from that module set as the default phone app. Also had riru and a couple other ones. Looking in to removing them now with no root and no magisk. I'll you know how that goes. Thanks for the tip!

That did it. Not sure which module it was, I uninstalled all of them and will just reinstall them. Attached is a screenshot of what I had installed. I just booted the Magisk patched boot file, with no SIM service I did a direct install, rebooted. Then uninstalled all modules and rebooted. Now rooted and with SIM service back. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction @dreinulldrei!

I had the same issue happen to me. Though I am not rooted yet but am on 11.2.4.4. After an entire day I found this setting and it fixed everything instantly. Maybe give it a shot.

Yes, one of the mods is the culprit. Not sure which one. Maybe the OP apks, as they relate to the problem you're having. But you can just disable one module at a time, reboot, and see if the problem is solved.
Hint: Always disable ALL Magisk mods when doing a system upgrade. Then see which ones you really need, if they are messing with e.g. Wifi or connectivity, I'd always recommend reinstalling them (as in this case scripts that copy stuff together etc. will use the most recent version) instead of just re-enabling them. Like the Qualcomm module... if you'd simply re-enable it, it'd still load the old Wifi driver which was copied when the module was originially installed.

Good to know for next time. Thankfully I only had a handul so installing them was quick. I'd also rather just bite the bullet and uninstall all at once and reboot once instead of doing them individually while rebooting between each. Thanks!

Yeah, but for mods that copy system files during install, once you re-enable them, thex will overlay old system files which were copied from an earlier version and e.g. break wifi connectivity. Hence my recommendation to re-install modules that copy system files during their initial setup. If such venture gues wrong you might end up with e.g. bootloops as a worst case scenario. Remember we don't have TWRP, so repairs that need access to the file system are quite challenging.
Agree, I always uninstall my Magisk modules...
Just in case anyone runs into this issue... Turn off the phone and enter the following into a shell on your computer where the platform tools are installed:
adb wait-for-device shell magisk --remove-modules
Now attach your phone...if it does not turn on by itself, turn it on.

Yeah, I saw and tried this. FWIW, I think because I had already uninstalled Magisk, it didn't recognize the command or said that the directory didn't exist or something along those lines.
Yes, that is correct. This calls a shell once the device is connected (wait for device) and then runs the command, which is Magisk itself. If this has been deinstalled, there's no chance it can do anything. But of course you won't run into any Magisk related problems if Magisk isn't installed.
