So my pixel 3 XL is arriving on November 1st (UK) and I'm curious about the battery.
Of course I know the phone is new, takes time to bed in, and for adaptive battery to work it's magic - however, I've read and watched videos on YouTube about how the battery isn't quite as good as the pixel 2 XL, which I find surprising.
I understand that the battery is a tiny bit smaller, but with the more efficient sd845 I would have thought it'd more than offset the loss of the smaller battery size. In quite a few comparisons they're saying the phone hits 0 much faster than the pixel 2 XL.
So for those of you with the phone, what are your own anecdotal feelings on this?
so far, havent had much time to use the phone without it being charged on pixel stand.
I did leave it off the charger since yesterday, and it is on par or better than with my pixel 2 xl. right now it has 60% with 2h 20m of screen time, was off charger for approx. 14 hours, just had it plugged into computer for a few minutes to do a backup.
Doing just what I normally do (email, web, feed, etc), though I did watch a couple 4K UHD videos on youtube for about 20 minutes.
I charged mine fully, and then non-stop used it right off the full charge since I just got it. I got over 6 hours SOT with 20% left. This was all while the phone was being set up, syncing, and being constantly played with. If I can get over 6 hours SOT a day, and still have juice left I'm quite happy with it.
My battery life is almost exactly the same as what I got on my 2 XL. I'm good with that. It still would've been nice to get a little better battery performance. Also, my phone shut down last night at 5% battery left. Not cool. I'm gonna see if it shuts down early again tonight and if it does I'll have to send it back. I also noticed that the battery meter is getting stuck on certain percentages and then skipping a percentage here and there, just like my 6p, Pixel XL and 2 XL did. Must be a Google thing.

Ok I'm happy with that. I love the battery on my pixel 2 XL, and it sounds comparable if a tiny bit better than what I currently get in stock.

That sounds like a calibration issue if anything, few charge cycles should help I would have thought

Well I've just charged it once so maybe it'll get better. Every Google phone I've owned has had a battery meter that sticks on percentages here and there so I'm not looking for that to change. I just hope it doesn't keep shutting down early because that's something I'll send it back for.
Take this with a grain of salt as I do not have a sim card and only use as a media device but battery seems pretty good. At least on par with my iPhone XS Max which has one hell of a battery in terms of power consumption. Though with the pixel I probably get lower than average standby drain due to not having cellular.
Battery life is just OK I think. It gets me through a day with moderate use but not sure yet if it is better or even with the 2 XL.
Battery gets me through the day. It gets me through the day and more if I drive somewhere since my car mount has wireless charging built in.
Battery life for me so far is great. I'm sitting at 18% at midnight after being off the charger since 630am with just over 6hrs of screen on time.

Its just okay for me... I think I got better on my 2XL so far. Maybe 4-4 1/2 hours of SOT if I'm lucky... right now i'm at 80% with 38 min
Mark me down for about 6 hours SOT on average daily after about 4 days of usage.
I try to goto Greenify immediately to see the list of "who's talking to their mothership in the background".
.
I read the always "ON" display dragged the battery down and did not "really" add to the phone so much. . . . Is it 'on' by default ? . . . . I mean, if you're staring at the screen "that much", well . . . .
.
( for those with root ), Greenify made my last setup last more than two days / almost three ! . Subjective as to what need to always "run".
Battery has been pretty much a disappointment. It is nowhere near a One+ 6 or iPhone Xs Max - I'd even say worse than the Pixel 2XL.
Mainly disappointing since the screen brightness is so low even running full brightness outside makes it barely tolerable. This is after a couple of days but don't see it getting better.

How? I'm a heavy user but I don't game. Lots of internet via Chrome, tons of social media, pictures, etc. I turn off always on display and set it to turn on when I lift up the phone. I turn off Google location accuracy mode in settings and just use GPS. I don't use adaptive brightness. I don't sync/push emails. And I always have both wifi and data on. Just normal stuff. Nothing special. I don't use any battery saver app garbage. It's just stock. Been pleased with the battery.
Confirmation. Not as good as 2XL. But close. Max 8 hours SOT

I just got my phone yesterday. Think I need to adjust some settings. Definitely need to turn off location and the brightness thing. Also, I'm on stock and have a much of new stuff on my home screen. Trying to remove that too. I'm not a gamer either so I should get good battery soon

Oh forgot a most important thing! I use a pure black wallpaper. OLED displays don't use any power to display the black color so it only uses power to illuminate the icons when you are using a black wallpaper. Saves a ton of battery. Use a black background wherever you can. Dark mode is your friend.

Question about location. Did you turn it off on the top or bottom? I remember when I was on andriod before there was a way to turn it off and on in the control center.

I have been very impressed with the battery life I've been getting on my Nexus. the talk time has been much higher than any phone I've owned. Here are a few screenshots of my battery life. These two days are pretty much my normal day (lol yeah I talk a lot on the phone).
The first post will be the day that about 50% of the time I was on wifi.
The 2nd post will be screenshots from a day of being connected to hsdpa for the entire day (no wifi at all).
My setup: I use push email, facebook sync, auto brightness, gps on, bluetooth on.
Also, when the phone first came I charged it completely then ran the battery down until the phone shut off. I then charged it completely without removing it from the charger.
Below is the day where I was connected to wifi about half the time:
These screenshots show the next day where I used no wifi at all and was connected to hsdpa the entire time.
I have had mine for 2 days, and I have to say it seems to have pretty good life as well, compared to my Atrix and Note. After reading about all the gripes here,
I was expecting the worst. This battery will more than get me through everything I need to do with it in my day, but I suppose it all depends on what you do with the phone.

Coming from a G2x with a terrible 10 hour battery life, anything I get out of this is freaking fantastic compared to it! I Just wish the devs start getting out some UVed kernels so I can make it longer through the day! I consider myself a heavy user/texter (girlfriend ) and so I'd like to get through the whole day (~18 hours) without a charge I must say, I got to 16 hours yesterday and I was really pleased with that, never had a stock rom last so long without any tweeks!
this is my battery life after first day ....
Not to shabby haha

mysterioustko: I think you're usage is a bit different to the average user. With all that talk time you're using the screen a lot less. It seems the screen sucks a lot of power, and if you're not using it often a full charge lasts 4 to 6 hours longer.

I typically average between 1-2 hours of screen time on an average day. But I talk A LOT each day lol. I'm impressed with the talk time because I've yet to see a phone besides this one that can go 6 hours of talk time in the real world when connected to hsdpa. Also, if you think about it, 1.5 hours of screen time is decent use. It's not a massive amount of use, but it's definitely not like it's getting no use. All in all I have been pleased with the battery life.
I don't know about you guys but im very disappointed in the battery life. With wifi turned on the entire day and no calls, just browsing and chatting on google talk, i got 3 hours 54 mins of screen on time before the phone reached 12% battery. I think thstss pretty horrendous. I was hoping for 7 hours or something of on screen time. My galaxy tab 10.1 has spoiled me i guess. Illl live with it because theres no other android phone im aware of that will give me more, but im kinda bummed about it.
My iPhone 4 has insane battery life... I cant imagine having less. Hopefully they sell larger batteries + backplates for the Galaxy Nexus?

Same here tbh. And the really frustrating part is, I only have 2G where I live so I was hoping to see really great battery life. Hasn't been the case so far though.
However having said that, just last night I flashed XXIK6 and while it's still very early to say for sure, it "appears" that battery life has significantly improved for me. Currently sitting on 91% after 3.5 hours with very, very light usage, IE: 15-20 mins screen on, 15 min phone calls, etc. Nothing to write home about sure, but way way better than before. It would normally be around 80% by now.
It's really sad when the very first thing you do after unlocking your phone is to go into setting to check your battery. Wish I could stop obsessing and enjoy this marvelous device without having to worry about it.
What did you guys do after getting the phone.
Did you charge it all the way to full before use, use and charge at the same time, or let it discharge all the way and then charge it to full?
Thanks.
I would have to say that the GN has the best battery life of any of my previous android phones. (G1, N1, Sensation) These things are very subjective though.

Yeah, and I don't want to lose the thinness of this gorgeous phone with an extended battery, but 4 hours of screen on time? Anyways, can you let us know how that radio works out, I'm not expecting much, but still curious. If it is noticeably better, I will try to unlock+root this phone. I'm just a little scared to brick this 700$ device.
I'm just waiting for mod of web browser that will invert colours. Black backgrounds and white text ...that would extend battery life significantly. I swapped colours on xda app and pulse reader only browser left ha ha

2-3% per hour idle
I did a benchmark this afternoon for about 8 hours.
ITL41F rom, rooted + dcm kernel, otherwise stock. bluetooth, HSDPA, 1 gmail sync, and a few background sync that is very light.
idle the phone in home for 8 hours. the battery drops about 2-2.5% per hour consistently.
how long does it last with 'constant use' though?... from fully charged, to then having the screen on the whole time & doing web browsing, video watching, downloading, etc... (with data on, not wifi)

with data screen straight you may get 4-5hours. With wifi probably 6 tops.

Is it normal that my battery goes down a percent every 3-4 minutes, just by doing simple things like web browsing?
No. Something is wrong on your end. Check for any apps running the background that shouldn't be running at all.

Open the battery utility to see what is consuming the highest percentage of power.
The display is one of the biggest power consumers. What level is your brightness at? The new N7 can achieve almost 600 nits. That is ridiculously high. The ipad 3/4 and Mini max out around 400 nits. I've found 200 to be a good compromise between battery life and ease on the eyes.
I have. I even factory restored. The standby time is great but once I start using it the battery just drains like that
I would let the device die completely and charge it up to 100% and use it intensely for a bit and track it. My experience with Android is to let the first few cycles of battery settle in the kernel and all that. Sometimes Unix takes a few days to get acquainted with it's space in my experience.

I got battery issues as well only 5 hours of on screen time........ You can get "Better battery stats" free from Xda, but I can tell you I've checked and nothing is running in the background, deep sleep is good but it dies after about 5 hours of using it. It's looking like some units are shipping with a defective battery. I don't see a lot of people reporting this though.

Most of the battery issues I've seen have all had the 5 hour screen on time problem, I don't know I just find that really weird but oh well
I'm also getting average of 5hrs screen on time. Nothing is draining the battery as far as I can tell. Today for instance I took it off the charger and went out. 7hrs later it had 96% with 6 minutes on screen time. It's at 13hrs on with 5 hrs on screen time mostly chrome, Twitter, instagram, Google+, quick games of words with friends and draw something 2 five minutes each game max if that. I would kill for anything close to 7hrs let alone 9hrs. Also the touch sensitivity goes bonkers often with my Nexus registering touches pretty far from where my finger is. I think I might just try and exchange it. Brightness at 20% maybe.

I have a battery drain issue with my new nexus 7. it cost 25%-30% battery overnight while i was sleeping. so i decided to factory reset it, and not installing any apps to test its standby time. it still cost ~20% battery overnight. Is it a defective product or it's a software issue? Maybe i should return it for a new one

Battery Test
I pulled my new N7 off the charger thsi morning and decided to test the battery because it seemed to be draining too quickly for my taste. I streamed two movies, Star Trek (2009) from Google Play and The Apostle from Showtime Anytime. that is only 4 hours and 20 minutes of movies. My tablet died before the Apostle finished. Had about 20 minutes left on it.
I am not satisfied with this paltry battery life. Google website said it would run 9 hours of movies non stop. 4 hours isn't even close. There are several "comparisons" out there but they only compare what the company said. I am not sure the battery is all it is cracked up to be. I am going to do some further testing but right now it looks like I will forego the New Nexus 7 and pick up a Kindle Fire HD. That battery life does last for hours and for what I need it will suit me fine.
I welcome your comments.

Yeah the battery is terrible for some. There's a chance our nexus 7's are defective but maybe a software update will fix it? Who knows

Hello all,
I recently purchased a LG G4 Back In July , on Verizon, switching over from A Galaxy Note 3 (Tmobile). Honestly I really really like the phone, but I think the battery life is pitiful for a $700 dollar "Flagship" phone. I mean not once has it ever lasted the full day. I had to buy a spare battery kit, with 2 batteries, and days when im out from 6am to late at night, I go through 2 batteries, and have to put the 3rd one in. I mean , this is simply unacceptable for a phone like this.
Also, the camera is excellent WHEN it works. A lot of times, it doesn't take the picture right away, there is a delay, and many times it falls out of focus. This is certainly not the high quality camera they advertised.
I am hoping there is a way to fix these 2 issues, mainly the battery issue though because it is awful in my opinion. Is there any tweaks or fixes for these issues?
You've barely given any relevant information other than how unhappy you are with the device, so I would suggest that you elaborate on that.
You could inform us if you're a heavy/light user, if you keep NFC, LTE, Bluetooth, Syncing, Wi-Fi, on during the whole day or maybe if you are used to 100% brightness display. Maybe you should check in your settings what is draining your battery and provide us the info.
I'm having a pretty good experience with the phone so far. It surely lasts a whole day with 3:30 to 4h SoT. I don't even need/have a spare battery.

One person having an issue doesn't mean it's not a great camera. You'll find it's likely still the best flagship camera of any OEM.
Battery use is so dependent on which apps you run, which mods you have, how often the screen is on, what brightness, signal strength, wifi, bluetooth, etc etc etc...
I came from a galaxy s3 and reckon the battery on g4 is awesome. I use it solidly on internet for 2 hrs a day (to and from work), check messages etc through the day, usually internet at lunch. And then evening time check facebook etc over WiFi infront of telly.
I unplug at 6am and plug in around 11pm with around 3% left. I bought a 2nd battery and only needed to use it twice. It has to be how you're using it.

of course, you can get excellent battery life on every smartphone - just put it in aeroplane mode..
I get MAX 3h of SOT time on my G4 - this is with fixed brightness at 65% (at all times) and only wifi and 3g enabled (NFC, bluetooth and everything else is turned off all the time)
to be fair I have yet to own a smartphone that lasts me more than 4h SOT..
the thing that annoys me the most is the broken knock code used to unlock the phone - it works 20% of the time at best
its a completely broken feature LG has not properly addressed since launch of the device (I am on V10e software)

There have been numerous firmware updates since. Have you ever performed a full factory reset after getting those updates ?
If the answer is no, then this is one potential reason for poor battery life. What you could try is to clear the system cache in recovery. Note, i said system cache not apps cache. Idea here is when updates come in there could be conflicts and it causes the system to work harder. clearing system cache might help, if it does not then the only option is a factory reset and then a manual install.
not restore. You install apps in batches, monitor, then install more and so on. You can restore contacts etc. but apps themselves will have to be reinstalled. Sometimes apps go rogue and have to be reinstalled. Its hard to tell which app is causing the issue. Otherwise you could just reinstall whatever app that seems to be taking up more than it should be.

How do you access the net. How good is your signal. What are you doing when you access the net.
Also, the camera is excellent WHEN it works. A lot of times, it doesn't take the picture right away, there is a delay, and many times it falls out of focus. This is certainly not the high quality camera they advertised.

What types of shots are these. It can happen with portraits some times. It will focus on the background behind the person instead of the person and the face becomes softer and the background very sharp.
For this set focus little above the chest instead of the face. If they are wearing dark clothing this will cause other issues so focus on something else at equal distance that isn't dark.
Always check the shot at the pixel level soon after you took it. Rather than at the end of the day.

of course, you can get excellent battery life on every smartphone - just put it in aeroplane mode..

Just to clarify: I had everything turned on for those 13 hours - wifi/data/bluetooth/GPS. I also made 2 phone calls and did a bit of Chromecasting using the BT Sport app for a couple of hours. Or to put it another way, I didn't take any measures at all to preserve battery life.
I used to complain just like you're doing OP ( @dredmentia ) and fixed it all with a Zerolemon battery .
Is the phone bulky/no leather back/not easy to handle... , it sure is but if battery life is crucial then it gotta get fixed.
End my day anywhere between 7 to 13 hours of sot depending on WiFi or 4g and high CPU freqs, tried light usage and hit 3 days with 12 hours sot. Snap/insta/twit/fb/periscope/... Nothing kills this battery in a day.
When and if we get a kernel I'll move back to factory battery at least then I know I'm in control of how CPU works coz while optimizing the phone for wakelocks that's the only thing I have no control over...
As for now I'm just trying to burn thru this battery every day so I can charge it every night...
Last phone was a Z3 Sony and that really grabbed my attention with its battery life in stock form, almost too perfect, Almost.

This is what your talking about? Looks like a pretty nice battery.
LG G4 Battery Case, ZeroLemon LG G4 8500mAh TriCell Extended Battery + Soft TPU Full Edge Protection Case (Compatible with all LG G4 variants) (4897010519648)
It works with the USB charger that came with the phone ?
Did someone seriously just ask me if I kept the brightness on the screen at 100%???? Obviously im not doing that, im not some idiot. I know the screen eats up most of the battery. I keep the brightness extremely low way under 50%, or on auto., The battery still last a short amount of time. Its not acceptable

Did you not see my earlier post ?
Answer everything asked in full.
I don't seem to see any questions about the battery life, what is the Screen On Time (SOT) for the Google Pixel 2 XL can people send some screenshots through of there's - Thanks
Bump this thread up. Come on guys don't forget the rest in the back of the bus, it's been 24 hours since some of you have had the phone - initial impressions on the battery life?
They are too busy to send their SOTs !!! ahaha
Million dollar question! Bump!
I've had the phone for just over 24 hours, so it's really too early to know anything definitive. From these 24 hours I can say this:
From a full charge early yesterday afternoon until I went to bed, I had over 6 hours of screen on time with periods of heavy use. When I went to bed, the battery had 26% left. I was on wi-fi most of this time, but I did spend about 2 hours off wi-fi in an area with sketchy signal.
This morning I've had a lot of work to do, so the phone has pretty much just been sitting untouched. 6 hours off the charger, on wi-fi, 31 minutes of screen on time, and the phone is at 98% (push/sync is off, ambient display off). I find that to be incredibly promising considering my original Pixel XL would have at best been down into the 80s on the battery percentage in the same scenario.
So far, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing out of the battery. But like I said, it's still too early to really tell where things will settle in. There are many reviews out there that go into more detail about battery life over a longer period, so I'd recommend checking those out until others here have had more time with the phone.
Sounds to be on par with my note 8, I'm hoping it's better

I used the Note 8 for a week and was never able to get more than 5 hours of screen on time under the same circumstances. Standby time also wasn't as good. I'll see how the next several days go with the 2 XL, but it's already impressing me more than the Note 8 on battery life.

Ive been averaging 6-7.5 hours sot with note 8, usually overnight it'll lose 2% which I thought was great, but I have high hopes for the pixel 2 xl with 8.0, I would imagine your battery life will only get better in next couple charges

That what I'm seeing as well a day and a half in on the Pixel 2 XL.
I've had only 1 full day and only got it down to 50% with 3.5 hrs of SOT. I don't game and use the phone for YouTube and email and browsing only
Sounds promising so far... I've always liked the pixels SO time

Used last night almost non-stop. Browsing, videos, games, Bluetooth on, GPS on, Wi-Fi off. Off charger at 1030 PM last night, 100%. Now at 7%. 7 hours 9 minutes SOT. Not too bad.

I'm just lucky I guess. I'm not a heavy user. No social media stuff, no games, YouTube once in a while, wifi much of the time. Lots of phone calls, texts, and xda browsing. My 6p is 2 years old and still works great. I do have a P2XL on order, so I hope it works well. I will miss the ease, and amount of development on the 6p. But I'll definitely keep it for my backup :good:

Oh ok.....Your usage makes sense. I love my 6p....I had mine almost 2 years but the battery started dying prematurely so they replaced it out of warranty and without me having to use my Nexus protect either....and it was the rep's suggestion to see if he could attempt to do it this way.
I will miss my 6p....I don't like the pixel designs but then again I didn't like the 6p at first either....the best thing about them is how distinct they are from other phones. I also don't like the 18:9 ratio. 16:9 is better....the new ratio may feel better but it doesn't look better to me. But almost all phones are doing it.....actually what makes it worst is front facing speakers make the phone have to be even taller which sucks....the additional tallness looks better with a wider 16:9 ratio like in the 6p.
Got the phone Thursday afternoon with about 60%. Threw it on the charger around 6am Friday, but didn't quite get a full charge before I had to leave the house. Turned the phone on and it was somewhere in the 92-95% range (can't remember which exactly). At one point last night I checked and it was at like 7.5hrs SOT, which blew me away since I still had 20+% left (and I've been using Shamu for the last few months, which was back on the charger everyday by noon haha)! Took a look at the battery stats before I went to bed around midnight, and I still had 12% remaining, and the SOT was 8.39hrs! Granted, I'm not doing anything terribly intensive at this point in my life, as most of my usage consists of Messages, Chrome Beta, Inbox, Maps, some YouTube, some Duo and a few phone calls, but still! Obviously that was the first charge, and we'll see what happens as things settle, but we're off to a good start...got myself a full charge today, so I'm excited to see where she's at tonight haha
I'm a dope for not screenshotting it, but hopefully the results will be similar today so I can share
Im averanging around 2.5-3 hrs of screen on time on oreo n pie pixel xl. My usage varied between scrolling through social media(facebook, instagram, reddit) and 15-20 mins of gaming per charge(all game settings are high 60fps). Does this battery life is still fine within all pixel xl owners? Or is it that it needs battery change since i got it refurbished? Btw screen is always at 50% brightness
Idsay so how long have ya had it

Did you ever get better battery/replace it? I get that currently on my XL on Pie and it's very frustrating.

Use AccuBattery and see what capacity % it shows after a week (first few charges will be inaccurate). I bought a refurb and it had 90% capacity, and I was able to get 4-5 hours SOT with always on display turned off, data, bluetooth, wifi always on; Oreo 8.1 and no gaming. I never upgraded to Pie, so I don't know if that made it worse.
I had a similar problem with mine, first i was on stock pie, so i tried changing to different custom roms, kernels, nothing worked. i thought my battery was getting bad, so i decided to flash a stock factory image (pie) just beacuse i was frustrated and somehow, that fixed it. I dont know why or how, but i got my battery life back. So maybe try that i guess?
