How to make my unit work in my car - MTCD Android Head Units General

Hello all,
I am desperately seeking some help.. I purchased this unit online May. 11 2018 and i have hardly been able to use it.
When i originally plugged it in it seems to be ok only the steering wheel button had some issues, either not working, or when i selected to change the track the menu also changed.. anyway after this i took it out just to make sure everything was connected correctly. and nothing was damaged. Then to fit it back and now none of the steering wheel buttons worked at all...
then one day the system would not even start up, I could see all the button light flash for a second and then nothing at all. I was finally told that i needed a new main chip to which they wanted $53 to which i blatantly said no! as this was under warranty. so after about a week they said ok but i will need to pay for the shipping, which i did reluctantly, but only because i wanted my unit working again.
So I received the new main chip and fitted it fine. I fitted the radio unit to the car and everything seemed to work perfectly, only no audio sound coming out at all. I can however here the beeping when i am pressing the menus etc on the unit, so there is some sound there.
The seller send me two MCU files to update my unit with, which i did, only now after these updates i don't have the image as full screen anymore and it is full of lines where the screen should be that's missing. The two files they sent me where: MTCE_GS_V2.89b and MTCE_GS_V2.88.
So now i have a unit in it with a new main chip and all looked good, except the audio sound not playing. i.e. MP2 through CD, USB or even radio. Plus now as well, that after the two updates above, the image is not showing full screen and in the blanks it is showing lines.
Please can someone help me as since May i this i have used this unit for 2 - 3 weeks max. Isudar, from where i bought the unit are also useless when it comes to support..
I just want it working again.... please help

You could try reading throught the thread about cross compatible MCUs. I see there are some GS specific notes in the first post. Maybe it will help.

Hi Kind3r,
Many thanks for pointing me to that thread, I am still reading through the posts as the original one makes some sense, i guess. But i am non the wiser what MCU i can or even should use. Being a bit of a noob, i am also a little afraid of putting something on that will make it worse I know how to upload the files, i just dont know what files I should be looking for or try.. right now for me the screen size is an issue and also not having any sound. When it worked it was such a lovely unit.
Could you possibly help guide me to where i can get these files and what files i should be looking for? And installation as simple as possible.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease

Sorry, but I'm by no means an expert in this units, still waiting for mine to arrive. Nevertheless you should have taken note of your original MCU firmware, screen resolution, ram, android version and all the other settings found in the About device section. Without this information it is difficult to guess what is compatible with your unit.
I would first backup the MCU settings (via the Factory Settings menu). This you should do before any other atempts to install new firmware, change configuration etc. I think of this as a list of drivers from windows 98/XP times. This tells the unit what type of canbus is installed, if you have a CD/DVD, what physical buttons, if you have a reverse and side camera, tv tunner, TPMS etc. You can play around with the different settings but since they are so many you'll have a hard time getting it right.
Now the actual OS is more permissive. It communicates with all periferals via the MCU and enables/disables various features and apps based on what the MCU tells it is available. You can basically flash any OS you like and it should work just fine as long as the MCU has the propper firmware and configuration.
Now, in your case, I would try reflashing the MCU firmware that you got from your seller using the 'dmcu.ext' screen thing. It's a simple text file you put on the root of your SD card, with the firmware. It seems like the configured screen resolution is different than the display resolution (also the aspect ratio seems to be wierd). Try first with 'screen:3' (my guess it's an older PX3 unit) and if it does not work with 'screen:1'.
If that does not work, I would also apply the 'GS Configuration Settings file', but before doing that, take a note of all the settings in Factory Settings menu (as those defaults might mess with your canbus or other settings).
Please note that you are doing this at your own risk and I'm just trying to help based on the information I read in this forum. You should also read https://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Hui_Fei_Type and take a look in the repository https://yadi.sk/d/umCvHqCDzHccr for updated MCU firmware and OS for your device. If you are not confortable with all the information, I suggest you try to go to an auto repair shop that has a more skilled person who can troubleshoot your issue.

Thank you, this is making a lot more sense, i was not even aware that the dmcu.ext needed to be copied to the root location on the unit. So this has not been done. (i will try that again tomorrow, thank you).
I am now a little worried about saving the MCU settings... no one ever said i had to, but from what i have seen they seem to be the same as from before i upgraded it (fingers crossed now and worried)
The unit i have is a GS model or at least so the MCU updated tell me and what i received from the re-seller. I know its an Octa-core and PX5 with Android 8.0 and the screen resolution is 1024x600 32gb ROM.
So could the MCU in be a cause of me not hearing any of the audio? as you mentioned it communicates with differend peripherals? sory if it is a dumb question..
What unit have you ordered? I bet you are looking forward to it? I know i really liked mine, for the short time i could use it..
This is what i bought, i guess the look is just cosmetic to fit my car (Mercedes C class)

Then you should try with the file provided with 'screen:0'. Maybe you can see a screenshot of the About Device on the product page (btw, your link is not working for me), maybe it's a different MCU.

From what I read, yes, the audio is controlled by the MCU and not Android. Also it is possible that some or all settings are reset during the MCU update (some users reported this), this is why it is recommended to back them up. Playing around with the Factory Settings will not damage anything but it's a trial and error process that can take a lot of time as you have to reboot the unit for the changes to apply. You should try to ask you seller for the original factory settings file.

Oh you bet I'm looking forward replacing the decade old almost unusable Android 4.0.4 that came with my brand new expensive 2018 HR-V. Why manufacturers put such crappy units in new cars is out of my understanding. At least if it had Android Auto it could have been good for something, but nooo, it only has mirrorlink for which there are no apps.
Ok, enough rant, this is the model I ordered https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-1-din-radio-android-8-0-GPS-Navi-for-Honda-Vezel-HR-V-HRV-2014/32905561946.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.121e4c4d03PwUR, after doing some research here on the forum. I think HotAudio/Dasaita have the best software support. I only wish they would also update the security patch level.

Changed Sim - White Screen

So I have been using my imate PDA2k without a hitch, purchased it unlocked, and was using a local carrier somewhere in Europe (Voda). Went to T Mobile in the same country and put the sim in - BOOM - white screen on startup and it seems to have reset because I heard the pings to indiate screen alignment.
Took it home, used My Mobiler to looksee what is happening. Its all working fine, the screen and everything, its just white! And after several Power/Reset button resets everything is still there but on the device - white screen only. Power on battery and backup indicated 100% but backup battery for a while said "needs replacing" - then on settings now its 100%
The touchscreen works! I reinstalled the password and when I touch the white screen in the places of the four numbers, its ok!
But its all white! What can I do?
hi and welcome to the forum.
there are basicly two options to what could have happened, either something got messed up with the rom and after the sim changed it was triggered and went completely wrong or while changing the sim, you accidently caused a hardware defect.
another way to try that is: put the device into bootloader mode!
the way to do that is press power+record+reset. maybe hold the power+record a little longer after resetting.
if your device screen shows SERIAL V2.0x (where x is a number from 5 to 7), apparently your hardware is ok and just your rom broke. in that case, after you claimed you already hard resetted, you might want to flash that rom again. if i read your post correctly, you are still running wm2003se. if your carrier does not host your rom anymore, you can always refer to xplode's shipped rom archive here: http://firmware.atspace.com/Blueangel.html
if your device still shows only white, either when trying to access bootloader mode, or after re-flashing, yo might have harmed your hardware. you might want to check for a replacement screen. if you want to have a look inside your device, whether the display cable maybe broke, here is a link to the service manual: http://rapidshare.com/files/336406555/HTC_Blue_Angel_Service_Manual.pdf
i don't think it can have anything to do with the backup battery, but if that really was the reason, here you find a thread with someone, selling them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551886
or you could upgrade your rom to wm5 or above, then the backup battery is not needed at all.
Thanks for the great response!
So I waited about an hour of using it with My Mobiler but with a white screen only on the device, and then waited a bit, and and just pressed power and reset again to see if yet another reset would work - and it did.
It was so strange that the previous times I tried to reset it didnt seem to work at all. But I knew that the screen was ok because I used My Mobiler and could press the password for the device on the white screen ok, guessing where the numbers were, and it activated fine.
So strange, but its all ok now. Thanks guys - this device is 5 years old!
mymobiler is a remote connection to the device, so that does not necessarily shows, that the screen is working, because it uses the usb port to determin, what the display would show, just like a remote desktop connection to a pc can work, even when your vga or dvi cable is broken, because picture information is sent through lan or wlan then, with a virtual graphics driver. also for some people, the touch feature worked fine before without the screen showing anything, because that is also another layer, that is transmitted through the digitizer. it could really have indicated that your display flex cable was broken, which is why i went both ways in my answer.
i am glad to hear it works again, just posted to clarify a few things
also, if you ever get tired of wm2003, make sure to have a look at d-two's wm6.5.3 rom in my signature and in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869
back in the day, when i still used wm2003, i felt quite excluded in mobile developments of the last few years, because many 3rd party applications would just work on wm5 or above and with that rom you can be up to date and use a lot of new features, which make the phone feel less like an old pda and more like a new phone. but now, that your device works again, of course that is completely optional.
Great Tony!
Although I am a little afraid to flash the rom to WM5 or 6 I should give it a go.
Im happy with the BA the way it is with some GUI software!
Thanks again!
i also had different gui improvements installed on wm2003, but still it didn't feel to fingerfriendly, which is important for me, because, let's face it, the BA is a modern phone, not some geeky 90s PDA , so fumbling around with a stylus is just not cool. also, whenever i looked on engadget i was incredibly envious of all the cool apps and GUIs. whenever i looked at ppc freeware pages i saw that most games, media players, browsers... would just work with wm5 or above, and after i found out, that it is incredibly easy to make your BA become a modern device (i would even go as far as calling wm6.5.3 a 2010 phone), i decided i want that, to kick every iphone's butt, to install any app i want, not to be forced to install 20 programs after a hard reset anymore, because everything already works fine and looks nice. i mean, these days, you hard reset, the extrom installs windows marketplace for you, you log in with your live account, it downloads everything you had installed/bought from there, including microsoft myphone and when you start myphone, you are already logged in, so it syncs all your pim data with the internet, and you have everything back. back in the day i was afraid i would lose everything i set up for ages if i ever had to hard reset, these days it just takes an internet connection and 20minutes of your time, to have your phone completely back up after flashing a new rom. it is amazing. before upgrading (the procedure for windows xp is to be found in the 2nd post of the link above) you should still make a backup of all your data, either through pimbackup (freeware by dotfred) at http://www.dotfred.net/ or with spb backup, available at spbsoftwarehouse as a trial version, in case you want to go back. about those backup apps, pimbackup is great because you can schedule backups of all your important information, also stuff that is not synced, like sms or the call history and restore it to any other rom or even other device, but it does not back up your installed programs (most of which you won't need anymore anyway.). spb backup on the other hand makes a backup of the entire system, and can restore the exact state of the device after a hard reset, including all installed programs and those programs settings, on the downside, those backups are worthless on another rom, just work for hard resets.
that was just a fair warning, because not everybody is happy with wm6.5's battery life and performance, especially when coming directly from wm2003. i started with wm6.0 and so i am used to those disadvantages, and since the roms get better with every new release, it is actually an improvement for me every time.
also i need to tell you, that by tomorrow, there will be a new rom released build 23518 by egzthunder1. yes, although the number is not higher, that rom is newer. but since none of us know, if that rom has any bugs, it might not be right to start with that one right away, you should probably try the one from my signature / from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869 (same thing) because there, the bugs are known and listed. when you have found your way around the new OS, you can still switch roms in about an hour, as stated above, you travel light with the new roms, and as long as your pim data is backed up and you follow the instructions, everything will be fine.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony

I don't know if I can post this here, kindly let me know if this is the wrong thread to post.
I have xv6600 yes I am still using it
It seems that I have broken my Display cable as I don't get any display.
But sometimes when I Slide the keboard in and out many times I do get display.
I took it to the local mobile reparing shop and he says that the cable is broken but I will have to change the complete LCD, as it's not possible to change only the display ribbion.
I was a bit worried in changing the complete lcd as I am not sure what quality of LCD he is going to use.
I would like to know if it is possible to change only the display ribbion. and where can I get one. Your help will be greatly apprreciated I really love this handset and don't want to leave it
Thanks in advance
have a look in the service manual, there you will find the exact display used in the device. there is a photo of it on page 55.
Thanx a lot Tony for your quick reply, this forum is great I have learned a lot from this forum over time.
I saw the display from the service manual, infact the mobile repair guy had opened my phone and shown me the display, but I was concerned if there is any chance that i can just repair or change the ribbon instead of the complete diplay.
i haven't opened up my device, yet. i'm glad i never had to, but from all lcds i know, i think that the flex cable is integrated in the display unit and only has a plug on the other side, so you cannot detach it. also, you should think about costs. the cable alone probably wouldn't be any cheaper than the entire display and if you had it assembled in a local shop, changing the flex cable only (if possible) would be much more work than replacing the entire unit, so causing more costs. actually, i believe the cheapest way would be, buying an entire new BlueAngel. new devices go for 100eur here in germany. the official retail price for a display unit alone is 130eur.

New url for updates!!!

I just went to setup one of my new units and even with the router blocking the 2 urls which worked fine yesterday my unit tonight did in fact take the update and is now at 51.1.4.0 !
Is anyone aware of a new server that Amazon is using to push updates when first setting up the unit??? This is very upsetting!
I CANNOT CHANGE THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD BUT DISCOVERED MY ROUTER WAS NOT BLOCKING URLS PROPERLY. WITH A NEW ROUTER THAT IS BLOCKING THE CURRENT URLS THE UNIT WILL NOT LOAD SO MY ASSUMPTION WAS INCORRECT AND I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY CONFUSION THAT THIS POST MIGHT HAVE CAUSED!!
(Perhaps a mod can change the title of this thread to a question instead of a statement???)
This is not good news. Hopefully someone has an answer for you as I am curious as well. I still have a couple that I need to set-up and really don't want to lose root.

Mine had something weird happen yesterday too. I was trying to backup my XBMC using adbFire and kept getting disconnected. So I'd connect again, get an error message, connect, then get disconnected. When it finally connected with a solid connection, I noticed that the Amazon Updates went from being turned OFF to ON. I unplugged everything and blocked all traffic through my modem before reconnecting. I've done a few reboots since then and everything is back to normal...on 51.1.1.0 with updates back off.
It felt like Amazon was trying to push an update to my unit, but I have no way to prove that. I'm very interested in seeing what is going on.
Well it is a possibility... Just glad I don't have to worry to much about it with CWM installed on all my FTV's...
Anyway... Guess @AFTVnews.com or some of those experiencing the problems can sniff if anything has changed using the WireShark prog. :cyclops:

The problem I've seen are folks starting from the same info point (guide/order) while their AFTV's are in different device states. It's not hard to do at all once you know from where you are starting. That way you can map out the correct order of steps with the Apps... You do have to choose weather to do it manually thru ADB or with an APP... I trust the APP more then doing it manually... I have seen folks trying to do stuff from the guides like the renaming of FW or Recovery files while trying to use the APP which is not necessary(Not sure if the .zip is being renamed twice, manually & by the app). Also RBox mentioned he is working on trying to stop the possible bricking....
Start at the first post here to get an idea how easy it should be. But the steps order or numbers can change depending what FW you are starting at & if it's a new out of the box or if its one that needs to be FW downgraded or both Recovery & FW downgraded.
Read page 47 just to familiarize yourself with the process. Don't try it right now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736774&page=47
If the problem is a new IP address that needs to be blocked. You need to wait for confirmation. If you can't wait then I would try to do the Stock Recovery Downgrade/ReRoot/Disable OTA Updates/FW Downgrade/CWM Installation, etc with only ADB allowed aka Offline. But not sure how some of the changes will require internet... Like to reconnect to your Amazon account. I would wait for confirmation of a new IP or other problem.. Probably offline...

Completely Correct... Some folks have run into problems during the downgrading. But even for them the keyboard trick with patience should/have get them back on the road to CWM. Got confirmation on a few threads here of folks getting CWM installed after getting stuck with the white Amazon screen or black screen.
I just tested with a Fire TV running stock 51.1.3.0_user_513011820 and it tried to download 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 from the same domain and URL as it always had. I then factory reset it and it again tried to download 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 during the initial setup form the same domain: amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
So based on this test, I see no indication the update URL has changed. Of Course, it's possible Amazon is using a new URL for some Fire TVs while others are using the known URLs.
I'll continue checking periodically and report back if the URL changes for this particular FIre TV.

You didn't indicate whether it took the new firmware or not....did it upgrade to 51.1.4.0 or download the firmware?
I had a thought about this last night, but of course it's too late to try it on my units, but my router has 2 options....One is to block specific URLs which is what I did. The other is to only allow specific urls to be accessed. I'm wondering if you only allowed firs-ta-g7g.amazon.com to be accessed since you need that to register the unit and complete the setup if you could still get through the setup routine. It wouldn't allow any connection except to firs-ta-g7g.amazon.com. Don't have a unit to try it with, but it might just work and if not the worst that would happen is that you wouldn't get through the setup....no harm done.

I had the download domain blocked so it couldn't download the update. As for your suggestion, I tried it with one of the earlier units that would not proceed past a failed update. I monitored every domain it tried to access and slowly fed it more access one domain at a time. The result was always the same: it gives various error messages because it can't reach certain domains. It never got past the update point in the initial setup.

If you are blocking using a ASUS router that might be the problem. When I loaded the latest ASUS firmware on my RT-AC66U all my blocked URLs stopped being blocked. I had to step back to an old firmware to get the feature working again

That's exactly what happened!!! I put facebook and ebay on the block list just to check and it wasn't blocking either of them! I'm off to get a new NetGear tomorrow. They have a "genie" program that is extremely easy to use for blocking sites or words (or update numbers) and it's only $39. I took one of the updated units back to Staples today and told them it had connectivity problems...( it really did....it connected with the darned upgrader!) and asked the girl in this tiny store if she would get one from the back that was way in the back and on the bottom of the pile if she could. She actually did for me! It's the lowest serial number I own now, but I'm not touching it until I get the new router and prove to myself that the sites are being blocked. I need the break and a little sleep anyway....too many hours at this for the last week.
By the way.... I do believe I have a way of downgrading the new firmware to any older firmware that was ever out. I'm going to have to sacrifice a unit to verify, but if they store the firmware on a TSOP I can do it. Clone time coming up!
I'm not a software guy, but am a hellofa hardware tech. Did it with satellite receivers for years..... ( Still love tubes more than any solid state stuff though!)

I'm not a software guy, but am a hellofa hardware tech. Did it with satellite receivers for years..... ( Still love tubes more than any solid state stuff though!)

It just dawned on me....with all of the excellent coders here and knowing that with Backtrack you can spoof a url or an IP. Someone could discover where the units are updating from and where they connect to and spoof the information..( along with the older firmware) and never actually have to connect with Amazon. The unit would think that it is connecting and download whatever it was fed and finish the initial install in order to root it.....just a wild thought, but I think a good programer could come up with a way to do it.

RBox & AFTVNews.com & others have already looked into this. Do a search for spoofing on the full thread & u'll probably find it.. Basically there are parts that are encrypted & we can't give the FTV the right answer to allow the older FW to be flashed.

There are 2 things to spoof. One is the response from softwareupdates.amazon.com. Aside from the fact that if you spoof it the server has to be using a valid certificate (which you won't get), it's response is signed and encrypted. The second thing to spoof is the actual firmware download. That has to be signed or else it will reject it. It also has to match the version it's expecting to download. So you can't spoof the response that would make the fire tv download an old version, and you can't spoof the update itself because it won't match what it wants.
Furthmore... Backtrack has nothing to do with it. Backtrack is a huge piece of **** that doesn't do anything magical that any SANE Linux dist can't do. And what the... XDA censors? How lame is that...

I would advice you add a note to the #1 post saying that it's been resolved & it was a Router Software problem (in bold). Maybe change the title of the thread too. Some folks might not read past the tittle or first posts & start to repeat that there is a new IP updating FTV's when that is not the case.
Tip: Tomato FW Routers block IP's like a BOSS!!!
Urls dont work
I have blocked the urls amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite softwareupdates.amazon.com through router before setting up my firetv and it had updated to the latest firmware uk version so just to let people know they do not work is amazon using new urls for updating

I plan on doing that, but only after I pick up the new router today and verify. Thanks for the tip on the router!

I only brought up Backtrack as an example. It's merely a collection of programs written by other coders. Say what you will about it. Makes no difference to me, but it has served me pretty well since I am not a coder and have little knowledge in writing my own codes. Kudos to you for being able to. As I stated, I'm a hardware person and a technician. I can design a board, but programming for me is an entirely different story. Years ago satellite TV receivers had a similar issue where a receiver would not accept a card that was not the correct card for the unit. It was called the ZKT...( zero knowledge test) The receiver had some information encoded in the prom... (supposedly some sort of question that it asked of the card). The card also had some info coded into it. Neither had any purpose by itself, but when a card was inserted into the unit the unit sent out the encoded "question". If the card responded with anything other than the correct information the unit would not function. A coder discovered a way to program eproms that did not have this ZKT information in it and after programming an eprom and replacing the prom in the unit with the newly coded eprom the unit would accept any card that was put into it.
I'm only stating this as an example. It might come down to cloning the eprom from one good unit to one that has the newer firmware on it, but I feel very confident that someone can and will do it at some point. I rarely ever say it can't be done....too many times have I been proven wrong by someone knowing much more than I do and no matter how good you might be at something someone a little or a lot better is going to come along and do what you couldn't.

[Q] Any way to tell if my second-hand Tab S has had anything odd installed on it?

Hi all,
I’ve just bought a 16GB 8.4 wifi model from Computer Exchange.
It’s come in a box with the initial start-up screen ask for log-in details, wifi password etc. I always make a point of skipping through this and then factory resetting the tablet just in case I spot anything odd.
This time, after the Android robot finishing with the reset, I saw an icon with a monkey’s face, and the message ‘Installing Applications’ before the tablet booted up to the normal initial set-up. Looking through the apps, this seems to be a Swiss app called ‘Teleboy’.
Obviously I found that rather odd. Doing some Googling – I think it might be an app that comes with Swiss Samsung tablets.
Is there any way to check nothing else odd is in there, before I stick all my passwords into it?

I believe it has a different country firmware or some sort though I can't be sure. I'm on the USA firmware and I haven't seen that on my T800 model. Can you go into settings -> general -> about device and tell me your build number etc. Thanks!

Looks like they included it in newer firmwares. I believe you have a different firmware from a different country. Different countries have different apps bundled in your device. I did some research about the teleboy app and it looks like an app for Samsung tvs. I believe you should be fine and if you want, you can disable it to be extra safe.
Here's where I looked at regarding teleboy. http://www.samsung.com/ch/smarthub/apps/app-03.html
It's a TV app in which Samsung included but probably isn't needed if you don't need it. Hope this helps!

why does my Head Unit loose timezone / Date & Time and country settings ?

since the last four weeks my head unit looses timezone / Date & Time and country settings!!
every time i reboot the device
The radio stations and other configurations don't get lost
Does someone know what causes this failure?
The wires for +12V Ground and so on are connected correctly

I update it manually.
I also tried the factory reset of the device.
But after i restarted the device the failure was the same
Another question is that did you update or install a custom ROM for it? If not I would suggest that as it might be outdated drivers may not be compatible. Basically its just like any other computer. Another suggestion would be to make sure the power connectors are tightly fitted if its not a plugplay.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I installed the latest custom Rom from Malaysk.
It worked perfect for about 3 months
all power connectors are tightly fitted!
Same thing happened to me.
the only thing i can imagine how such problems can occur is a RAM problem
If the memory of the RAM loses it's information over a longer time period than we really have a big problem
I had an USB stick with this problem a longer time ago. In this case you can throw away the hardware!
The short solution is to delete all data and update the MCU
afterwards the bug is fixed and everything works fine again.
THE QUESTION IS ONLY----- HOW LONG??

How long did you use your device until it happened?
quite a while, year maybe. but i think the time messed up in december as well. I just messed with the settings so hopefully it is fixed.
Hi brownstein72 i could not find out how i can fix this problem in the settings. I tried everything what is configurable with time and date. But nothing worked. If you found a solution please give me a feedback. Greetings
Can't figure it out either. It seems to always revert to Moscow timezone, no matter what I do. I have even disabled all automatic date/time settings. As well, my bluetooth stopped auto-connecting to my phone around the same time. Strange, I have not changed anything, a bug with something to do with new year maybe? I rely on the auto connect for having tasker start the wifi hotspot... I am not on the latest Malaysk, I may update but don't want to, I had it all set up the way I like it.
Edit: This time problem also screws up the auto-dimming feature.
That's the same behaviour like on my machine. What i can say... it has nothing to do with the new year. I had this failure in the middle of december. The only way to get it running again is to wipe all data ;-(

I think I will update later today then, I see a new firmware from Malaysk was just released today.
On my unit the automatic time/zone according to GPS never worked.
The home time zone is grayed out and cannot be changed. First, on original soft and then on DSA's and original 2.97 MCU I had the home time zone set to Hong Kong.
A few days ago I updated soft to Booroondook's 5.1.1 + MCU to 2.98.
Home time zone is still grayed out, but now it's Moscow.
In both cases, time and zone never changed according to GPS (to Polish time, Eastern Europe, GMT+1). It was always the home time zone's time (Hong Kong something like GMT +12, Moscow: GMT+3). It's much better for me to have Moscow as a home time zone than Hong Kong, but still it's useless and I got to set the time manually. A complete fail with such a trivial and basic feature.
Anybody knows how to change the home time zone? Apparently it's a matter of either ROM or MCU (ROM probably, since Booroondook is located in Moscow, I suppose).
Hi ttoton, it's like i wrote last time.
The only possibility to fix this problem is to wipe all data and install the whole system new.
I did it last month and now everything works find.
I hope this bug will never occur

If you are root, check into the file build.prop in there you should see a line that looks like: persist.sys.timezone=Europe/Moscow
Modify that to whatever your android timezone is. That should do the trick. It worked for me.
I had the same problem as you, my time was always off. It basically remembers when the unit was shutoff . Than it took 10-20minutes for the right time to be updated (via GPS). I kinda solved it by changing the timezone line in build.prop .... and by forcing the GPS to update faster via an automation (app) script that wait for the car to boot and than automatically forces a GPS update by disabling the GPS than re-enabling it 3 seconds after. Now my time gets updated in 1min instead of 10+minutes. Something is up with the unit for sure but this is the best way I found it to make it work for me.

I did what you suggested. I found 3 files named build.prop in the system folder, so I made the change in every one of them. Changed the timezone to Europe/Warsaw.
Works like a charm, at last proper time with auto GPS time option. Updated the time within a second. Many Thanks again!

Xtron PX5 TE706PL lock screen and wifi issue

Hi, new on here, looking for help for the following (searching found no solution):
Xtron TE706PL
PX5
Android Oreo 8.0
(let me know if you need more info)
1) A lock screen for the Xtron stock firmware (tried Nova launcher to no avail)
2) WiFi is intermittent (bluetooth is ok), it will work until the car is switched off and then when i switch it back on it stops randomly and won't find any wifi signals (tons in the area). I thought it may be some sort of 'sleep' setting, but it's set to always on under wifi settings. Usually a full reboot of the system activates it again, so possibly a software issue?
I've not seen the WiFi issue you speak of, but it's probably a configuration issue. Have you tried with your phone hotspot rather than random wifi hotspots dotted around?
No idea about a lock screen. Mine doesn't even offer that functionality. Quite frankly, I don't see why anyone would want one lol

There's tons of wifi's in the area, my mobile hotspot, my house + 7 other wifi signals. When it's working it picks all of them up, this is without moving. When it's working i can be on the move with my hotspot and it's ok, as soon as i turn the car off and go to start it again the wifi stops working. Xtron are sending a new aerial, but i do believe it's a software issue.
The lock screen would be ideal to secure the unit if it's stolen or whilst the car is being valeted. Even if an external finger print scanner can be programmed, it would be preferable. There must be something out there, would consider a custom firmware if need be.

It's definitely a software issue. No amount of aerials are going to fix that issue. I would update to the latest MCU and update.zip. Do you know how?
Wow, do you like live in the Bronx lol? You're aware if someone wants to steal the unit, they could easily factory reset it then your lock screen will do nothing. Not a clue on the external fingerprint scanner. No idea where you take your car to get it valeted either, but most of the time, you sit in the foyer watching while they do it. That is why they have a big glass window at garages/valet places etc.

I believe the MCU is the latest version for GS installed MTCE_GS_V2.78_3
However, the android 8.0 version is 15th Jan 2018, which is old.
Reading on the forum, there's a post with android updates on the stock Rom up until March, however no new firmwares posted on there after then. But i know that there is June versions out there, do you know where they will be posted?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...5-mtcd-e-head-unit-discussion-thread-t3734189
Also regarding the lock screen, User Malaysk shows in his custom Rom that lock screen is activated, so it is possible. However, I'd prefer to try a stock Rom first to see if it fixes the WiFi issue, if it doesn't then i can return the unit to the seller. https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...-malaysk-roms-px5-2-4-gb-8-0-android-t3762724
Wifi issue is fixed by upgrading/changing MCU. Check out this post, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76666402&postcount=547
Try if you have latest version of MCU before trying with some other MCU.
