Hi Community,
I was wondering why my custom rom have 3.18 Kernel version - Basic answer seems to be quite obvious dev decided - but I didnt found any information about availability of Kernel 4.xx on this device. What is stoping anyone from compiling "latest" kernel version? What is this missing piece?
According to https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/51651/which-android-runs-which-linux-kernel this is the list of Linux kernel versions used by each AOSP version:
Android Version API Level Linux Kernel in AOSP
----------------------------------------------------
1.5 Cupcake 3 2.6.27
1.6 Donut 4 2.6.29
2.0/1 Eclair 5-7 2.6.29
2.2.x Froyo 8 2.6.32
2.3.x Gingerbread 9, 10 2.6.35
3.x.x Honeycomb 11-13 2.6.36
4.0.x Ice Cream San 14, 15 3.0.1
4.1.x Jelly Bean 16 3.0.31
4.2.x Jelly Bean 17 3.4.0
4.3 Jelly Bean 18 3.4.39
4.4 Kit Kat 19, 20 3.10
5.x Lollipop 21, 22 3.16.1
6.0 Marshmallow 23 3.18.10
7.0 Nougat 24 4.4.1
7.1 Nougat 25 4.4.1
8.0 Oreo 26 4.10
Could be that your rom is based on Marshmallow, or, as you have suggested yourself, that the dev decided to use 3.18
I'm not Linux pro user however there was some quite easy way to export current kernel config. With such config I would be able to compile 4.x kernel and run it without any issues? Or do I need something extra to make it live?
And since I'm on Android 7.1.2 version how it can run on 3.18 kernel without any issues?
And why does Cyanogen/Lineage ROMs have to have some "other" kernel?
I know that there are some firmware files. Are those "universal" / kernel version independent entities? Or those are compatible with 3.18 only and most custom kernels on op3 need to stick to this particular line?
I'm currently on jaguar 3.1 and i have heliox 15-10 build but i want to test other kernels for better sot. Can someone help me with which kernels are supported?
so i searched a lot about miui based roms , i didn't find any ROM rather than Masik and it's confusing a little bit.
what is the different between masik x and masik u / i installed masik x 1.0 it's great ROM, then i found a thread about masik x 1.1 and masik final i just don't get it why all these names??
then i took a tour in 4pda but it's Russian and google translation can't do the job properly . so guys any help ? maybe someone can Enlighten [/CENTER]me
Masik x is newest version, 1.1 is update for newest version. After that there will probably be 1.2. Masik U is older build
