As far as I can find, there seems to be no simple app that allows you to do a complete backup of an Android phone. I used to use either Sprite or SPB Backup under WM which allowed you to create an executable file which you could run after a hard reset to restore your phone to its position at the date you made the backup.
It looks like that's not possible under Android. The built-in backup doesn't seem to do a lot as I still had to put back my apps and many of my settings.
What I have found are Sprite for Android, My Backup Pro and Titanium Backup, although Titanium needs a rooted phone.
Is there nothing similar in Android that essentially creates an image of the phone so that you can do a full restore after a hard reset?
If not, what is the best way to backup as much as possible?
Well, with custom ROMS there can be app2sd (saves the apps on the sd). That also backs up the apps you have.
Otherwise it's also possible (after a hard reset) to login the market again and download all your previous installed apps again.
For a complete backup (e.g. also to save a certain version of a rom, a full NAND backup) you have to make a 'Nandroid' backup.
But! That is only possible with a custom recovery rom as far as I know. And there isn't one yet for the Desire.
On my Hero I've been updating quite some ROMs without the need of a hard reset. Which is already quite an improvement over the WM rom updating With Android you can update ROM without hard resetting, and it usually keeps working just fine.
But then again, I always make a full Nandroid backup before installing the new ROM just to be safe.
Also a former WM user and Sprite Backup did a great job on those devices. Seems like Android works differently with that respect. In fact Sprite Backup seems to get quite a few bad reviews on the Market.
Dear all,
I am new here, and found there so many firmwares developed and the chance to back and forth to initial firmware is high. So when we back to initial firmware we need again to install one by one our apps and set the configuration of our device. Is there any way to back up all our setting including the apps do we can just restore and everything will be back as the latest condition before we make any change. In windows mobile I use spb backup for this, but I don't know in android.

Hello everyone and developers of custom roms, it has no doubt that you had done the great job, But i have one question every time you are coming up with the new version of your custom roms. But like for instance i have installed your 2.0 custom rom in my dhd and than the new update has came out, so with the previous one i am so comfortable i have set all my settings my shortcuts, widgets home screen etc, now if i have to update my custom rom with your new one so i have to do all wipe out this thing is miserable as i will loss everything I have set in the previous rom so is there any method to preserve those settings and as I upgraded to the new version my phone appearance will remains the same,
thanks please reply, I am dyeing to install gingerbread version of your rom but want to clear this misery first.

First of all, this is the wrong thread to asking questing. better ask at Q&A section.
Secondly, if you want to update the custom rom version, normally no need to full wipe except :
1. The rom maker state to do full wipe for every update
2. You having something unusual
Just do full wipe only if you change from other custom rom to another one.
btw, don't forget to use Titanium Backup. you can restore all your apps with data if you do full wipe.

one more thing what if i want to install new custom roms yet i want my home screen and other things like dictionary of smart keyboard and widgets will remains same in my DHD.
Do things like a titanium backup for apps and data and backups within the apps them selves
When you install it's better to get everything from the market, but you can use titanium backup to reinstall everything
Then just restore data for all your apps
It's a little fiddley sometimes and you will have to redo things like widgets and possibly homescreens, but all your data will be there if you do it right
And just in case, of course do a nandroid backup

When you go from Froyo to Gingerbread you really must do full wipe, do not use easy upgrade tool. That means losing apps and settings, but it is ok to backup them like Joey explained.

I use in my OneX the HD revolution mike rom 6.1.1. Mike currently has released the new version 7.0.0 on a new base of HTC.
The question I have is that I now fully configured 6.1.1 rom to my taste, and to load the new version 7.0 should do a full wipe.
You start from scratch you to configure, or you employ a program to backup and restore, and to write the roms automatically configured to your liking?
I have seen many people use the titanium backup, but as a new base, I have to copy EVERYTHING? I do not know if it really is effective

I use Ultimate Backup Pro, but Titanium Backup Pro will also work...
Ultimate Backup Pro will let you restore all apps + data. That should take care of all your downloaded apps.
Ultimate Backup Pro also can take backup of your account settings (Google, Facebook, etc)
For SMS, Call Logs I use the following apps available in market
SMS Backup & Restore
Call Logs Backup & Restore
Contacts: Google, as I do not have any phone / SIM contacts. They will get loaded automatically once my Google Account Syncs
Never used the Backup tool, to restore home screens but you can give it a try... For me its just 5 minutes to setup all home screens (I take home screen screenshots to quickly remind me of what they looked like)

but in the titanium brands copy it ALL? that would otherwise have to go manually selecting things.
And so it copies all, there will be things that "collide" with the new ROM ..
But I fear I have to copy all user apps and give, and copy the new ROM not work correctly.
If you invest in one single app for Android, it should be Titanium Backup Pro. If you only restore apps and apps data and NOT system data you will be just fine with every ROM upgrade. As was mentioned SMS Backup & Restore should be used for SMS backup, and it can also backup and restore call logs.
PS: The free Titanium Backup might be enough for you, but it can only restore apps and their data one by one, not automatically. But you might want to choose apps you restore anyway...

New base - you reinstall all your apps? Very funny Just dont restore system data...
I find a metod to prevent loose all. Before install new rom, do a backup old rom.
Factory reset
Install new rom
NO REBOOT!!
factory reset again
Avanced restore-restore data
Reboot and enjoy!!

I am quite new here at OP9P (had several Samsung and one Huawei smartphone before) and I have a question:
How can I backup my complete system (incl. all apps and data) on my OP9P (not rooted) with Orginal software (OOS LE2123_11_C.48) and restore it if necessary? So far I have not found a solution while searchin the net (only with rooted phone)....
It would be nice if someone from the community could give me a tip (maybe a tutorial)

Assuming you are talking about a system image, you don't need root, but you need a custom recovery for this, which in turn requires an unlocked bootloader.
If you haven't unlocked the bootloader yet, be aware that when you unlock it the 1st time, everything on your device will be wiped. For Samsung devices, this process will trip the Knox counter permanently, and void warranty.
With root, you'll be able to backup individual apps and their data.
In short, without root, there is no way to backup app data from within the system. And without a custom recovery, you cannot take a system image.
Android Backup is pretty limited without root. iOS backups are better in this aspect because you can backup all app data.

actually, the only known workaround to backup all app data without root is with D2D transfer apps like
Clone Phone (still that won't help you on bricked device)

Root phone?
Before rooting, you have to unlock bootloader. Doing that will wipe everything. What will he backup then?

I use FTP Server Pro along with Filezilla Client on my computer too for non-app data. i.e. Everything else. If you're rooted then you can poke about in system folders too.
Once you copy everything into a folder, it makes it easy to backup/restore the whole storage.
