is it possible use google assistant to call via bluetooth device? - Connected Car

Hello guys, I need your help! I've an android unit on my car... it has android 8.0 but it haven't sim so, basically it cannot make calls, but it shares internet connection over wi-fi generated by my smartphone (using it as one hotspot).
Everything works fine... navi, music, internet and google assistant too. But I can use it only for search or other little things... but not for calls.
If I say "ok google, make a call to anyname" it answer me "I can't make call yet". Now, I'have my smartphone (samsung s9+) connected via bluetooth.... and when I receive a call, I receive it on my unit.
But onboard there is a sad apps to make calls with my phone that have no search functions, no voice commands.... just entry numbers ... one digit at time or selecting a contact between the entire list.
So if I need to make a call while I am driving, I have to pickup my phone from my suitcase or tap the numbers one digit at time on the screen and it is very dangerous.
I'd like to say to my unit "ok google, make a call to NAME" and it use my bluetooth connection (or wifi) to make my phone dial that name. Is it possible?
P.s. I hate android auto.
Thank you

Yes you could.
You need to download MTCD Dialer in your head unit first.
After that, open the Google app (not google assistant)
type in e.g "Call Mum:
You will see there is 3 dots near the phone call icon.
Select MTCD dialer and you are all set.

uhm.... thanks for your answer. I think you know what are you talking about... but I cannot find anywhere "MTCD Dialer". Maybe this app is not available at Play Store for Italy. And I don't find it at apkmirror dot com. Do you have any apk about this "MTCD Dialer" ?
Thank you very much

MTCD dialer?

Hello,
I try to install it in a Joying head unit Android 10, but it doesn’t work.
Is there other app like this ?
thank you

Google voice preventing me from making Bluetooth calls...

So I just bought a new car, and while hooking my dinc up via Bluetooth I noticed that I cant call out from my phone because I have it set to ask every time I make a call if I want to use Google voice...it gets stuck on that screen and fails to make the call.
Is there a way to prevent the Google voice app from asking when calling out via Bluetooth?
Anyone? I could have sworn it worked Thursday when I picked the car up, that's the weird thing...
I'm not sure exactly where it is but there is an option in the settings somewhere that dictates how Google voice handles calls. It can be set to use Google voice, not use it, or ask.

I think that's for international calls. But, you phone might be dialing an international prefix before the number. That normally wouldn't matter, but Gvoice will take notice of it. I set mine to never ask because I never call internationally.
Ah yeah, I think loonatik is right. So if you do have 1+ before the number, GV will probably pick that up and that might be what's giving you troubles. Maybe?
No, I have it set to always ask...but I was hoping there was some way to override it if the call is made via Bluetooth. I could have sworn I had it working Thursday, but now it just fails because it gets stuck on the Google voice screen ...
Anyone know of any way to override the setting if making a call thru Bluetooth?
Or, an alternative would be for me to turn it off (or on) for all calls and have an easy way to bypass it...
Possible solutions...
Free, but a pain in the butt:
Drop the Google Voice Settings widget on one of your home screens. The third button (the one that looks like a handset inside of a settings button) toggles call modes for GV:
-Use for all calls
-Do not use
-Use for international
-Ask every time
Free, but I have never tried the app so I can't personally comment:
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/communication/google-voice-callback-free_fpin.html
Looks like you could set this up to perhaps side-step the GV behavior of manually answering every time
I was about to write out how to do it with Tasker and the Locale Google Voice Settings plug-in. But I just realized that it doesn't have the all/none/ask choice as a plug-in setting: only the online stuff like forwarding phones, etc. Bummer - but maybe you could contact the dev about future integration
Google Voice always ask and bluetooth
Did you ever find a good work-around or solution for this?
I just got an S4 today, and I was hoping that the Google Voice app on the Android would be similar to the iPhone one. It's not.
I use google voice to call/text my friends (I ported my original # over to Google) and the main number for work. But when I tried making a call over bluetooth in the car, got the same problem as you, it got stuck on the "Always Ask" prompt. The problem with making it never ask, is there is no dialer to just go to like there is on an iPhone when you do want to make a call using Google Voice. So you have to keep switching the option on that widget before every call. So annoying.
Suggestions?

[Q] Google Voice and call log?

Both my T989 (Galaxy II) and T999 (Galaxy III) are setup to use google voice for all calls.
On my T989 the call logs showed the numbers of the contacts I dialed in the call log and I believe when I was dialing out.
On the T999 the call logs show the google voice number that bridges the call, not the callers phone number and shows the same when dialing out.
I can't seem to figure out how to fix this so the contact's name/number is shown in the call logs rather than the number the phone dialed to connect the call.
Anyone had and fixed this issue?
Thanks!
I'm experiencing the same issue with outbound google voice calls and the stock dialer logs.
Thanks. It's nice to know I'm not the only one having this problem.
by any chance is this working as expected for anyone? hard to believe no one else has noticed and commented.
seeing the random outbound number in the dialer's call log is frustrating.
Same issue here on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III
Same here.
having the same problem as well on my SGS 3... works as expected on my HTC 1XL. seems you can redial the number you intended to dial from the call log.

same problems on my I747 (AT&T S3). Very annoying.
Ditto. Very frustrating. It seems to my limited brain that it might be the phone apk taking it's data from a network source rather than the phone's dialer. I'm contemplating trying a different model's phone.apk, but I really need my phone to work, and I haven't flashed a ROM yet on this one.
No more comments since, have you guys figured out how to fix this. If yes, kindly post the solution.
This is ridiculous, I am seriously considering taking this (otherwise a fine) phone back to store.
This bug is a deal breaker for me. Good phone/hardware/software design should follow standards.

Seriously, this is absolutely a huge annoyance. Completely a deal breaker. I am going to take this phone back if this can't be fixed.
I refuse to deal with this. I need GV to work as intended. I need to have this ANDROID phone behave like an android phone. If I wanted a phone controlled by the manufacturer, I would buy the crap iPhone.
Really, either Samsung fixes this issue within this week, or this phone is going back.

Can you explain the problem better. I think my iPad shows the random google number too. If that's what you're talking about.
When your phone is set to use GV when dialing then GV does use some (random?) number (say you dial 202-123-1234 GV might show dialing 617-444-3333) but then in the Log you would see the number you dialed (202-123-1234) not the num that GV used (617-444-3333). This is how it works in other phones that I have used. Bug is with the Galaxy S3 that show the GV number in the log. If you click on the GV num that appears in the log you will be connected correctly, but it's beyond annoying to not be able to see/find numbers/people (people cause the contacts are associated with the real number, not the one that GV uses).
I'm getting there, I think lol.
Are you dialing out using the phone app? Or gv app? Can you make the call/see it correctly if you dial out through the web browser?
And what you're saying is that the call log shows the google service number not what was dialed.
In my stock phone app my call log shows the number of a person who called my gv number and was forwarded to me. Do incomming calls display correctly?
I am dialing out using the Phone app.
When you say the "call see it" I figure you mean the Log. I don't know how to dial using Voice (GV on the phone) as I don't see a dial pad there as I do on my desktop computer.
>>And what you're saying is that the call log shows the google service number not what was dialed.
EXACTLY
Install google chrome and navigate to the voice site. I don't really use gv anymore but it could interest you. I found using it through the web always gave a better experience because it's more robust.
In the phone app is it just outgoing that's messed up or incoming too? I didn't even know the stock dialer could be used for gv
going to the website, and using the call back, it works fine - but that defeats the whole beauty of being able to use the phone dialer and transparently it uses GV (this might be new to Android v 4). The setting for this is in Voice (android app for GV) under settings, Making calls. For me the reason I want to use GV for all outgoing calls is so that ppl know me by the GV number since my SIM changes often and if they get the SIM number they tend to save it, later trying to reach me at this number and finding it's no longer in use....

this is an issue with the Touch Wiz ROM and Google Voice.. if i use a stock TouchWiz ROM and GV, and call a contact, then the service number is in the call log. when i use the CM10 ROM and, i call a contact, the call log lists contact phone number. either way, i'm disappointed that Samsung and/or Google haven't addressed this issue. t

If you have Face to unlock enabled, and you go to settings, lockscreen, improve facial recognition, another person can add THEIR face and both your face and their face can unlock the screen. I guess it's not really improving the system with how you look in different environments but compares every picture it has of you until it finds a match.
If you make an outgoing call with Google Voice, the display and call log will show the Google relay phone number, not the contact phone number. That was handled correctly on my Galaxy S3 on Verizon.

The S-Pen is way too sensitive, the phone registers strokes and taps from over 1/2" above the screen.
(I've tried whacking it on a hard surface, and holding the button then touching the screen. Not brave enough to pry off the button and tweak the pot).

I was wondering what the hell those numbers were. I just noticed that today and had no idea where those numbers came from! Is that a system problem or a google voice app problem?
If you go to the the gallery from the camera app by clicking the little icon in the bottom left then if you try to go to the entire gallery by clicking the gallery icon on the top left corner the phone takes you back to the camera app instead of the gallery app as it should. It is actually very frustrating.

S-Voice not speaking your text msg + Vpoice dialing issue
2 items I have noticed:
1) If I voice text someone, S-Voice will confirm the person's name BUT not speak out the message before asking if i want to send it.
2) When trying to voice text someone who has more than 1 telephone number in their contact info like Work, Home, Mobile, S-Voice will often (I can't say as yet if it is everytime) state that the person has more than one number asking me which one I wish to use instead of defaulting to the mobile number.
What I can say is S-Vopice over BT has never worked so well for me vs. what I had with my GNote 1 using Voice Talk.

Are you sure it's not AT&T's Smart WiFi app doing this? Make sure it's turned off.
I don't have this problem on my stock unrooted phone, but I remember on my Note 1 being surprised that the WiFi was always on, even when I turned it off, and it turned out this app was the culprit.

This is what I do. "Send message to John Smith's mobile. Meet you at the bar." Be sure to say "mobile" (you can either pronounce it mo-bill or mo-byle Then it'll automatically select their cell number. She'll respond back and when you're ready, say "yes" or say "send".
You can also say "Send message to John Smith's home..." It'll select John's Home # but of course, the message won't be received, I don't think, unless their home phone has a feature that receives text messages...

S Planner Tasks Do Not Sync To Google Calendar
This is not really a bug.
While events created in S Planner flawlessly sync to the Google Calendar, tasks do not sync.
In gmail app, while looking at the content of an email, swiping leftwards to go to the next email often results in just the title of the next email loading. Sometimes can take quite a while. If I go back to the inbox and click on the email entry I want to look at directly it loads fine.

Yup, same to me.
Add in there that if you have a contact's name that is in the format of Salutation LastName such as "Dr. Who" or "Mr. T" or "Ms. Parker" with no first name, s-voice doesn't properly pronounce it when it tells me "Calling Dr. Who". Specifically, Dr. is "Drive"... now that's just silly.
Another s-voice issue, response gets slower the more you use it. When I first started, I'd get answers back quickly. Now it takes 10s. I should go clear its cash I suppose.
Only reason I'm sticking with it is because it actually works unlike the offering from google (which seems to dislike my accent; works fine when others have used it.. I had the same problem playing with friends' siri implementations).

Can I not make calls using the 360?

One of the things I liked about the Galaxy gear was being able to make calls easily from it. On the 360 if I use Google now and say "call John Doe" all it does is perform a web search for that term.
Is it not possible to use the 360 to dictate to your phone to call someone? I use a Bluetooth headset and it would be great to be able to make the call utilizing the 360 and not pull out my phone.
Well, for me anyway yes it does work fine. "Call Victoria on her mobile" is recognized as such, triggers call on phone, closes Google now on watch, and call is going through as I pick up my phone.
I said 'for me' because I am using a Moto X and have enjoyed this sorry of functionality for a while, so not sure if the phone is helping that process or not....
Have you tried a more unique name, maybe only one of in your address book?
I perform calls voice as well. Not sure why it isn't working for you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.guidology.android.minidialer
Does it work if you open google now from your phone and tell it to dial a contact? If so then I am not sure why it is doing that..
IF however it also doesn't dial when you use it on your phone directly, it is likely a settings issue. Fix:
1. Go into google now/google search.
2. Scroll to the very bottom of all the cards.
3. Click on the 3 dots on the bottom right side.
4. Click settings and go to Accounts & privacy.
5. Make sure that Contact recognition is check-marked and if it isn't do so.
6. Test and hopefully enjoy the feature! :fingers-crossed:
I said "call..." and it did a Google search. Then I tried "place a call to..." And it worked for me.

Voice dial with Android 10 head unit?

Just purchased a new Android 10 head unit for my jeep. I'm pretty happy with it except that there is no way to do hands-free dialing. (I can set it to auto-answer incoming calls)
I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro - and as some of you know, Google Smart Lock / Trusted Agents is disabled on Xiaomi devices, and only Xiaomi brand Bluetooth devices can keep the phone from locking.
So even if I bypass the head unit and say to my phone "OK Google, Call Bob Smith", I still have to reach over and unlock my phone for the call to actually go through, or hope face recognition works at that moment.
The new head unit connects to my phone, has my contact list, and I can make calls from my phone with it via Bluetooth even when the phone is locked. But I have to scroll through my contacts or search for the name by typing it in on the head unit.
So I'm looking for a way to initiate a hands-free call.... obviously it's the law right now so it's something that should be do-able.
Thanks for any help!

I am interested to know if you ever got this sorted. I have the same question. Clicking the microphone icon brings up a Google voice command screen of some sort which recognises a command to "Call <Name>" but responds with "I can't make calls yet.".
I'm not sure what is listening to the voice command if that is OK Google, Google Assistant or something else.
Feel like I might need to install something else to replace the BT dialler or at least find some configuration setting I haven't found yet...
