Benchmark problems - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

So just today, I realized I was under clocking my phone's CPU at 1920 mHz instead of the base clock speed of 2150 mHz which basically meant I was limiting its performance. Realizing this, I called myself an idiot and was also excited to see my benchmarks at base clock since its 165K using antutu when under clocked. So I changed my clock speed back to 2150 mHz and started benchmarking. All was going well until around 80% of the benchmark when the screen just instantly turned off and the notification light dimly lit up, no warnings, just instant. I can't interact with my phone until I forced restart it. I under clocked my phone again if it still has the same issue but benchmarking worked out just fine. Any idea why this happened and is there any fix? I really want to know my benchmarks at 2150 mHz ;-;
Ps: idk how to call website admins but please tell them to fix their website for PCs, can't even login since text boxes are missing, can't make a new thread since title input text box is missing when making new thread. Everything is fine on phone tho.

Im using nameless kernel. I now just remember having this same problem before and rebooting doesn't work, and i also remember that this problem is the reason why i underclocked my phone. The only thing that caused a kernel panic so far is antutu, probably geekbench too but i can't properly remember.

[Help] Lots of freezes and crushes after updating to 4.0.5

Hi,
I've had my Archos G9 80 updated to the latest android official 4.0.5 from and since then i'm expriencing lots of crushes and freezes. I'm getting them randomly with no specific app working.
Also, i have tried to do full formats (Android + Data), and still having same issues.
Does anyone have any idea what else i can try?
Thanks.
I had lots of freezes too (not only with the latest firmware). They seem to be gone since I changed the CPU govenor from "hotplug" to "interactive". I'm not sure yet that it was the reason, but try it and let us know if it helps.

Yes, can this be done from the phone itself? Within the ROM?
You can set this in any tool that is intended for overclocking. I don't overclock, I only changed the Govenor.
I use "SetCPU". ("No-frills CPU Control" should do the same.)
So does this have any other effects on the phone?

Nothing too serious. Your CPU is clocked dynamically so it doesn't run full speed when there is nothing to compute(save energy). To my understanding the govenor is basically a policy to manage how quickly the frequency steps up/down on changing CPU load. So "powersave" is supposed to save energy but make the system a little less reactive than "interactive" Governor for example. I think I read somewhere "hotplug" deactivates the second core on low load situations, I suspect for some strange reason my device might have crashed sometimes on trying to wake up the sleeping second core. Well maybe I'm wrong, that's why I'm interested if it helps others.
I didn't notice any change in battery lifetime, mostly it's the display anyway that drains the battery. Everything is running well, battery lifetime is great too and no crash/freeze at all since i changed that setting and it crashed almost every damn day before, no matter if it was Honeycomb or ICS.
I downgraded the device to 4.0.4 and since then, no crushes.. I guess for some reason 4.0.5 isn't stable on my device.. ill stick with this version unroll they get another one out..
To downgrade, just install official update file of the version you want to upgrade to..

changing govenor from "hotplug" to "interactive" seems to help against random freezes. 4 days without problems until now i had freezes with ics, but never with honeycomb.

That seems to be my problem too. Setcpu requires root. is there a very easy way to do this, just to run this setcpu? There used to be a z4 tool, but can't seem to find it anymore.
Edit I see that I need superoneclick. Will temporary root suffice or will I need permanent root to change the governor setting.and keep it so.
Unfortunately all know temp root variants tend to brake things- im Honeycomb sound, in ICS 3d driver.
The only real option is to enable SDE and use custom firmware.
As for freezes- try reinstalling apps. Direct upgrade from Honeycomb does not work for all

No, it won't. Gen9 system layout is different than for most other devices
hey, back to topic
5 days without freeze with govenor "interactive". i witched back to "hot plug" this morning and had to reboot my tablet 2 times today. for my case, "interactice" seems to help against random freezes.
mines performance intstead of interactive... experienced some freezing n interactive..
Man I'm really pissed.
Yesterday I had to hard reboot 7 times

@IrishStuff09: you did reformat for ics or upgrade from honeycomb? the best way is to start from scratch and skip upgrades.

One X keeps overheating

Hi!
It's the summer where I live and it's like above 40°C in my appartment (Yeah, I've a free sauna, jealous?), and this cause my One X to overheat all the time, I'm not even doing "heavy" stuff, just browsing the Internet or Facebook via Wifi, I already tried to slow down the CPU to 1200Mhz but it is still very hot, is there a solution to avoid this issue (apart from "DON'T TOUCH IT!"), I can't believe that Taiwan is a cold country and that the HTC was not made to work at 40°C...
You can see my ROM and Kernel above this message (signature) I'm trying to install Viper ROM to see if it fixes the issue... :fingers-crossed:
Nevermind, I fixed it, I used wrong voltage and too low down threshold value in SetCPU which caused the CPU to overheat and stand longer activated, silly me

Wow, what a up !
Seriously though, I'm not using my HTC One X anymore, but last time I used it, I used Faux kernel with -100 uV and some Ondemand governor tweaks (mostly to lower frequencies at as state that is just above lags) and it was running lagfree and a lot cooler than stock, but I hope you don't mind loosing a bit of 3D perf...

nope, same with latest 4.0.4
Much better now that it's rooted and setCPU profiles are enabled once again F180L owner.
I actually see a really nice improvement in battery life over 4.0.4. My wakelocks are now 1/4 of what they were. My problem is CPU related - cant get up (to 1.5 ghz... Throttled down to 1.1 almost all the time)
Emm, why do you need 1.5ghz?

I am so confused by this question
Because, like many other people, I bought this phone in part for its processing power. I could have saved a lot of money by getting a slower but uncrippled phone (even stock gingerbread on my Galaxy S was 'good enough' for basic tasks). And yes, I have noticed lags since the speed has been mostly capped at 1.1ghz. I dont expect there to be full speed all the time, but I'd like it to be as snappy as possible when I am doing light activities with it, like web browsing. Why would anybody be content to have a 30% reduction in their phone's capabilities?
UPDATE: the lags I was experiencing seem to have been softare related. They appear to have disappeared after a clean install of JB and manual install of all apps from play store

Oh yeah. What is draining your battery? Is it a specific application or just the OS? If its the OS you can install Better Battery Stats and take a look at your kernel wakelock statistics.
Something wrong with your unit, cause mine one doesnt lag at all even on 700mhz with 2 cores disabled.
Also on 1.1ghz its still most powerfull CPU on the market, but its your way.
I believe you can disable thermal protection in service menu.

Thanks for your advice to check the service menu in more depth but I didnt see the option there. I wouldnt really want to disable it if I could since it does have a use (I'd rather my battery didnt overheat and explode or something ).
Unlikely that there is something wrong with my unit. The lags arent choppy, per se, but more fractional delays that werent there before the upgrade to JB. I probably would not have said anything if I hadn't seen the phone's prior behaviour. And yes, it is my way - I like things to function as they were intended regardless of whether the current performance is "good enough". Lopping off the top multiplier almost entirely seems like a crude way to regulate the operation and temperature of the phone [.. but the new information below suggests that this isnt intentional...] . If I have to compromise at some level, I will gladly take this (nearly imperceptible) loss of function for the improved battery life I am seeing in this ROM.
Update: the weird frequencies I have been seeing have been reported by others using the same rom as me. It seems to be related to the kernel.
Here we go. Just installed setcpu to show you the service settings works. Also im able to set 100% brightness whenever i want.
I used to underclock cpu on ics, but someday ive realized LTE eats battery 10x times faster, so everything ive done with setcpu is kinda useless.
So i just dont care whats going on with cpu freq since it still lighting fast.
Also JB doesnt lag even on old 1ghz devices cause of triple buffer and forced vsync. I think you still should check your phone.
p.s. Latest F180K official rom

Thanks again for your advice, although that screenshot has nothing to do with the service settings and JB does lag quite a bit on older 1 Ghz devices, as I can attest by having JB running on my Samsung Galaxy S. I reinstalled JB as cleanly as possible and manually reinstalled all my usual apps from the play store and the lags seem to have disappeared. Maybe there was a problem with my recovery softare ? I edited my earlier post to reflect this, but the change in CPU frequency is still there.
As I was trying to say before, you and I are using different phones and different roms. It seems to be a recognized quirk with the rom I am using that while the phone is unplugged, the cpu frequency and screen brightness are very heavily regulated (cannot run @ 1.5 or full brightness even while phone is cool; goes away when the phone is plugged in). Please do not start telling me that 100% brightness is as unnecessary as 100% cpu frequency (I dont ever use 100%). I think you and I will just disagree on acceptable limitations of capabilities, even if I agree with you that they dont affect normal phone use at all. I see it as a mystery that needs solving.
And I am glad to hear that your phone works so well with the official rom . I could wait for official JB on the e973 but I'm impatient and Houstonn did a great job with the port.
So your phone's service menu doesnt have the High Temperature Property and the Thermal Daemon disable buttons?
You still can ask someone to disassemble korean version service menu to find the flags so you can use it on E973

Which governor is it using to set a min of 1400? Ever likely it gets hot and eats power! I use f4k's kernel, and the 'Performance Control' app to look at and alter stuff - you don't say what you use or have tried.
There is a Carbon 4.4.4 available with f4ktion 1.5 kernel - might be an idea to flash that and the problem might go away!

It's on every governor this happens but I use Wheatley. I would manually set it to around the 300s but in a couple of hours it would auto set at 1400 on its on. This causes my battery to drain my kernel version is 3.4.91 f4ktion 1.4.5 eur lte

Strangely enough I've settled with Wheatley too! but it spends most of its time at 162 when not in deep sleep (a bit like me!). This really needs posting in the Carbon thread so I would post a few more things here to help or comment on stuff to get to 10 posts and then ask in there. I can't think what could be causing that behaviour, if it was me it would be bye bye 4.4.3 and hello 4.4.4

Does the actual minimum change rather than it simply running continually at 1400+ and if so which governor does it change to if any!
I read somewhere in the Carbon thread someone was having similar problems so they flashed the kernel twice, one directly after the other; seems something wasn't getting written correctly the first time but was the second, and the problem went away. Worth a go...

I found this : Q: CPU/GPU frequency doesn't stick?
A: If your frequency settings don’t stick, it's because on certain Qualcomm or JB and higher devices, there are certain system services (thermald/mpdecision/project butter) or kernel feature that rewrite frequency settings based on current thermal status and/or touch input. Certain custom kernels for your device should include work around for these issues.
Is this a fix?

It could help. Trickster is good. However, this suggests that there is something else causing or forcing the frequency setting to be changed. The question is what? and I've no idea:crying:
Haha I found the problem it was either this battery saver app or I changed to scheduler to anything besides row

[Q] phone crashing

Need help or advice , last week i've been using lollipop rom, im not familiar to the new settings and setups on this so i explore and try the kernel settings. I set my kernel setting to maximum, like cpu which is about 1750 mhz all cores and gpu 450 thermal off etc. Because i hve been seen some comment that the lollipop rom reaches to about 27000 k antutu score . i tried it by my settings which is my phone crashed while testing it to about 25% of testing. Now i just go back to sling rom and try again to test with no modification with the kernel or any optimizing the performance and im surprise that it crashed too and tested with putting my phone on the freezer which i guess im having phone temperature problem but it crashed too. Now while charging and testing in the same time it completes the benchmarking of my phone.
I guess my battery is the reason my phone is crashing when on the heavy load of using
Or some hardware issues? Like cpu,gpu ??
Sorryto my bad english and explanation. Thanks
