Hi all,
I foolishly purchased a G7 of the EMW variety without checking bands or connectivity in the UK. This, being a Korean version to by knowledge, doesn't have the best connectivity here in the UK on 3.
Using the *#*#4636#*#* code I can change the preferred network type to a bunch of other options which might help though.
My question is therefore twofold:
1) does anybody have a suggestion as to which seeing I should choose? LTE only, TD-SCDMA, etc?
2) will these settings even have an effect and will they reset on reboot?
Thanks in advance all!?!

I have noticed people managed to change their network mode to GSM only mode??? How do you that?? I only have 2 options: WCMDA and GSM/WCDMA auto?? Is this thing vary due to your courier?? Currently I am with 3 Australia. I wish I have the option to switch only to GSM. From experience, it can save you a lot of battery.
If you don't have the option then you can't pick it. I don't know if that means it's been removed or if it's simply because 3 don't offer a 2G network service (GSM mode). They probably have some 2G sharing but only in spots without 3G so you still have the GSM/WCDMA auto mode.
That's the best I can offer since I know that's how it works with 3 over here in the UK where they have only their 3G network. The firmware likely has GSM mode disabled for that reason but wait for more to back me up or prove me wrong.

I have a feeling it could be the ROM or firmware that comes with it has it disabled the GSM only option. My Desire HD is the UK version. I am not sure if the other Australian version (from Voda or 3) have that options. With my original desire (and also using 3), I have that GSM only option available. So I dont think it's because 3 doesnt offer 2G network.
Get Advanced settings from Market. You can set it to GSM Only in the phone information menu.

Thank you for sharing..yes, it works....but I will try out and see if it does save a lot of battery life.
Type *#*#4636#*#* in the phone dialer to get to testing menu. Under phone info you can set different options that are not otherwise available. No app is required.

Thanks for the info. I have tested both method...both work. But the only problem, how do we set it permanently?? I mean I have noticed every time you reboot the phone, the setting changes?? and I have to set it back to GSM only??
but even if you could technically switch it to gsm, would it actually make a difference? surely if the actual mobile network is pure 3g and no 2g, then switching on the phone wouldn't change a thing? as its not actually possible to use 2g on 3 network?(because they built network from scratch out of 3g is what they always boast about anyway..)
This is strange. I have an unbranded bought sim free HTC sensation here in the UK which Im using on the 3 network and I dont have the option under network to set it to gsm only. This option should be here on an unbranded handset, and its there on my old Desire which was also bought unbranded sim free when Im using that on the 3 network.
Anyone shed any light on this? I know the work arounds mentioned above, but Im more interested in why the option is missing on my handset.
Cheers
PS I know this is the Desire HD thread but its the only topic I could find on this subject so far.
I don't think it matters, just don't even bother with the settings menu for that in the first place. in the Testing menu just set the radio to either GSM Auto (PRL) or GSM Only. GSM gives more talk time.
I bought a second-hand unlocked Z1 Compact which seems to have been sold originally by Virgin Mobile UK.
When I'm in the UK I use it on the Three network with a PAYG 4G sim. It picks up 3G/HSPA+ all over London just fine but I can't get a 4G connection at all.
In my network settings I can choose WCDMA only, GSM only or WCDMA/GSM. There's no option for LTE. I'm assuming this is a limitation of my ROM. I recently received an OTA update to 14.4.A.0.157 but it hasn't made a difference.
Is there something I can do to unlock the LTE bands, or should I flash a generic (non-carrier) UK firmware?
1. Assure your plan covers LTE. Check your SIM in other phone which can do LTE connection.
2. For myself - I knew I had plan with LTE and phone was capable to connect it but when I made 'connect LTE only' in settings - I got message:
"Your SIM card refuses to connect this way". That explained a lot.
I had to change SIM card to LTE capable and all of the sudden I had LTE.
I had the same issue when I first bought mine. It was a generic uk device but missing the 4G option in the settings. An upgrade of firmware solved the issue for me. If you know your plan and sim support 4G I would suggest trying the generic firmware.

Thanks - according to the network you don't need to do anything special to activate 4G/LTE on any Three SIM.:

When I took the phone to the Three Store in Islington the guy looked in the options and told me that my phone didn't support 4G/LTE as there is no option for it the settings. However both the box the phone came with, and the device itself (in the service menu), list various 4G bands as supported. They wouldn't really help any more as I didn't buy the phone from them.
The only other devices I have to hand are an iPhone 4G, a Samsung Galaxy S2 and a Huawei Y330, none of which support 4G. Also the only 4G SIM card I have with me right now here in Portugal is one for NOS (Portuguese operator) and I'm not sure it will work in a phone as it is designed for home 4G broadband.
I'm willing to have a go flashing a UK unbranded FTF, but I can't find one anywhere with the 157 update.
EDIT: I just figured out how to use XperiFirm and it seems the ROM I need isn't out yet. Might not be ready in time for my next trip to the UK but fingers crossed.

You can get latest firmware and baseband, it doesn't have to be for your country or provider, head over to IaguCool' s thread on Xperia Firmware Downloader & Checker. Follow the instructions there.
You will need a copy of Flashtool and it'd be good to read the thread on 'how to' as all the instructions are there, rather than jump to the last page and ask, which is what everybody does.
This will deliver you the latest stock build, bootlocked and not rooted, so what you do with it after that is up to you?
When you first start the phone it will go through setup, where you get to choose language and provider. The only thing you might need to know is your service providers APN and maybe you have to enter in manually.

Don't know if this might help but I'm on three network with generic UK firmware and in my network settings I have "4g (preferred)"
It's. 108 firmware and the customization number is 1279-4727. My 4g works fine.
If it was originally on the Virgin network it's possible I suppose that their firmware doesn't support 4G hence the option doesn't show - odd though. I can say for sure that 4G definitely works on the 3 network with the z1c though 3s 4G coverage is limited to the major cities at the moment - I've got a fairly ancient sim card from my old iphone 4 and that works fine so you shouldn't require a change of sim card. I would definitely try flashing the generic firmware and see if that solves it, doesn't need to be 157 - 108 is as good a bet as any and to me seemed better for battery life.

@spudata - thanks, that does indeed help. That's the exact firmware I downloaded (same customisation number) so its good to know it will work if I flash it.
@twilliams08 - given that I lost my root after the OTA update I'm probably better off on .108
So now its time to read up on how to flash a Sony Z-series
If flashing new firmware doesn't works maybe that could help with problem:

Try with this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapbase.LTEswitcher, I choose LTE only on that app because when I choose LTE preferred, it just connect to HSPA

Hi All, can I start by saying I am not overly techie but would appreciate any help you can give.
I have a HTC M9 on Vodafone, I have not changed anything technically from out of the box.
My problem is that when I am on 4G I can not send or receive texts, if I change settings to 3G then it all works. This is the same if wi-fi is on or off. I only have two bars on 4G but this is not a problem for my wife's I phone also with Vodafone. Any suggestions / thoughts on why this would be the case?
I should mention I have changed the SIM card and wiped and re started the phone (on advice from Vodafone). Thanks Ian G
Sounds like an APN issue

Thanks for the response, is there anything I can do about that?
Is it limited to a certain area, not seen this issue and I am also on Vodafone, A manual roam may help, go to Settings>Mobile Data> Network Operators>search networks, then choose any other network except Voda and when it fails to connect select Voda and then retest, this should update your location on the HLR and may resolve your issue.
hello every one.
My lte doesn't work. I already test with the rom paranoid and CM.
I m from morocco our 4g is new and i think is the same as the europe 4g (lte).
Do you have any idea ?
Pls help
Thank you for your time
up
Help pls i need to flash modem ?
Which carrier are you using in Europe? Are you roaming from T-Mobile or have you purchased a different service/SIM card in Europe?
Also, what country are you in specifically?
There was a guide somewhere on XDA regarding Qualcomm processors and band unlocking using QXDM (LTE) and QPST (GSM/WCDMA) though I forget the exact name. I believe there was also concern that it could damage antennas. Also I have no idea if it actually works and mucking around in the NV RAM space is very risky. I would not advise it.
Is at least the GSM service working? If so, is it really that bad that you need LTE? Personally I would leave it at "oh the gsm works, I'm good". :good:
Depends on the carrier you are using, is your phone unlocked? I would assume that it is since your can receive gsm signal.... Anyways, what you would want to do is check your network's APN and check our phones APN settings and add the 4g/LTE APN settings to your phone manually... Then restart your phone and try again, make sure you select the apn after adding it so you know it's active. Try that. If that doesnt work, then go into your APN settings again and just do (reset apn setings) or something along the lines of that which resets/restores your apn settings back to normal/default.... either one could work, try the first one first ofc! G:L:
Hey guys, apologies if this has been asked before or if this is a silly question.
I recently bought an Asian Lg G3 d855. The software version is D85510e-GLOBAL-COM.
The phone is working fine apart from not having any 4g connectivity. I have went into settings and tried to change to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto but it doesn't connect to 4g and switches back to GSM/WCDMA auto as soon as I exit the screen.
I have also went into the hidden menu, to LTE ONLY, RAT selection and tried to change it there but still no 4g. If I choose "LTE only" I lose my signal completely.
I have also went into band selection and chosen band 20, as this is the LTE band for my network in the UK (O2). It says success when I click on it but still no 4g.
My question is, is it possible to flash a European software version and would this enable the 4g?
Or is there any other way to enable 4g on this phone?
Thanks in advance!
