No he is right.
On the other hand, you are thinking wrongly. 720 hours is nothing for whyred.
The question is why?
Why? Because there's no ROM here we can call really stable, at the moment. Especially since it was switched to Android 9.
Take a look at the alleged LOS15.1, which is supposed to be "stable". I have that device since early May. It's now early october. I started using the ROM end August.
I keep finding issues. I reported bugs, and nothing is done about it (not even looked upon the official Jira), in months.
Look at the bluetooth for example, even sending/receiving a simple file fails.
Some others will tell you "yeah it's ok for daily use", blablabla. I had other roms, there's nothing to debate.
So it seems the most android 8 based roms are abandoned and some slow progress on versions for 9.
I guess your 720 hours is a blessing in disguise, one way or another you'd have to wait anyway. It gives you time to research how to do.
Oh yes because if you want a decent firmware, kernel, camera, rom, etc... you'll need to patch your phone more than frankestein has stitches.

JCASE demonstrated booting unsigned code from USB... so we dont NEED to unlock the bootloader although it would be nice.
What we really need is a custom recovery and a way to boot it.. perhaps JCASE will chime in now that the root is out..

May be we can write custom recovery using dd an then boot it?
I would think anyone that is willing to test unknown methods either has money to burn or a hardware flasher.
Just checked safestrap, no luck.
May be we can port loki. Platform looks similar for me, but offsets is different.

Thanks for answering Happy to hear that people are still trying this. I'm wondering, once Android TV is released, the hardware on this device seems to be pretty powerful and it might be a great experience, if we can figure out how to get it on there.
Good luck, rbox! And thx for the xposed mods
Just be aware that the first thing that will stop working with an unlocked bootloader will be Netflix HD. I don't have Prime so can't comment on that.
You will be limited to 720x480 resolution - 1750kbps.

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered what the gs3 q&a section looked like. On any given day you would see the same question get answered about five times.
Nothing yet.
Items not yet working:
Camera
Bluetooth
LED Light stays on initially until connected to a charger.
Lockscreen will sometimes momentarily freeze on unlock.
With Lollipop around the corner I don't really see these things getting fixed just yet. I would put money on the fact that the devs are going to be more focused on getting a functional Lollipop ROM before spending a ton of time on working out these nagging issues.

My camera is working so they should have it fixed soon
Samsung apparently has sent out a final notification to all those enrolled in the Nougat Beta that there will be no more updates and that the beta ends officially on December 30th and that they will attempt to push out the official update to everyone in January. Hope this means they were able to quash all major bugs.
http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-receive-nougat-update-january
And it is officially Android 7.1.1, at least for those in the US.
Hopefully we get it soon, I would love some Nougat. At this point I prefer to not have to root my phone to get updates because it's a hassle without being able to unlock the bootloader. I was rooted for awhile and IMHO stock runs butter unless you spend hours customizing it. I love debloating but I would prefer a fully unlocked/rooted phone to a partial solution.
I don't have high hopes for when we get this updated because of verizon but we eventually will, about 2 years after everyone else

I haven't been rooted for over a year. I was on an LG G3 before my S7 and so far, I haven't found a real need to root. Before, I rooted because I used TiBu to backup my apps, but with the G3, they had their own backup utility that worked just like TiBu, but it's only for LG devices.
But with how Google Play uploads settings now, that appears to work just fine for me as well, so at this point, I have no reason to root. Plus, I really love Samsung Pay so I don't want to lose that.
This is the first device I have owned that I have never rooted. No need to. Faster than anything I have ever owned and mine never slows down for my usage. It's the first device that I feel works as intended. I also wasted a few years of my life with this stuff and just don't have the motivation anymore. Especially without an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, I'd never.

Agree completely. The root process works well etc but I had to go through xposed and do a lot of tweaks to get it running well for really no gain over what I had stock.

I completely agree. The G3 was the first phone I ended up not rooting. I did at first because I was just in that mode of, get a new phone, root, flash a custom ROM. But as I started getting used to a lot of the features, and found that the battery life wasn't bad, coupled with running Greenify in non-root mode, I could make the battery last 1.5 days. So, over the last year of the two years I owned it, I didn't root.
With the S7, no need to root. This is smoothest phone I've had yet. The quality of the phone itself is excellent. So, this phone will not be rooted.
It appears the official Nougat OTA is being pushed out, with beta testers getting it first.

was there ever a second beta OTA sent out to Verizon testers? I didn't get into the beta but side loaded the only 7.0 beta build OTA that was floating around and my build number is NRD90M.G930VVRU4ZPK4. Was there an update to after that? Trying to figure out if the Nougate beta -> final OTA (assuming someone pulls it) will work on my phone or if I'll need to find the intermediary beta OTAs or else wipe clean and start from scratch.

I swear searching around the interwebs for information on release dates has at least as much mis-information as looking for information on the election candidates during the election. So much trash.
But I haven't found anyone stating they heard definite dates. I'm thinking it will be late January at this point maybe early Feb before it hits our phones.
i have given up speculating anything that involves verizon. nothing would surprise me.
Take it where its coming from but it looks like some US non-beta testers are starting to see the update. "Unlocked" phones only but still....

I believe unlocked models should be getting it before us on Verizon. But, there was a story out that stated OTAs for some reason have stopped being pushed out and Samsung has acknowledged this and is looking into why it happened.

Whether the "bug" is in the firmware itself or with the update process that sends out the notifications is not mentioned.
Hello all,
I was wondering how long will it take to release a official or modified TWRP for Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.
This doesn't belong in this section.
This does not belong in this section, but I do have a compiled TWRP here but its just untested.
I won't post a topic about it unless I know it works reliably enough: https://github.com/smiba/android_device_xiaomi_perseus/releases
(Also since again this is untested, the risk is 100% on the user who installs this.)
Your post does belong in this section I believe some standard formatting is preferred. OP was making a request, which definitely does not belong here.
That said, thank you for putting together TWRP for this device, but does any one have unlocked bootloader at this point such that it can be installed?

@djbosanac It is logical to ask this question but it is another thing to do something, STUPID. OK, you just bought yourself a $450-$700 dollar phone and you would be stupid and try to install an untested version of TWRP? @simba has not recieved the phone yet (if you would read). So do not be stupid and install it UNLESS YOU KNOW CODING YOURSELF! Then, once you brick your device, you are going to scream bloody murder asking everyone to help you unbrick it!
Hey, I have seen it before.
So, chill for a week or two. Once people get their devices things move forward.

Ya, I am going to chill on this device. I have not purchased it, yet. It looks tempting because I like everthing about it but because it does not have band 71, it is a real phone killer for the t-mobile croud. If I do get one it would be the international version. I really, really, really love the slider. I mean, that is really cool what xiaomi has done with this phone. There will be a lot sitting on the fence for a while, I am sure about that. Your thoughts on the phone?? Did you purchase one?
I have TMobile and band 71 is a non issue. Very few areas even support it

I have t-mobile and a lot of areas do support band 71, now. I think what you meant was if the area that you live in is not going to get band 71 until 2020 it may be ok to purchase a non band 71 phone now, then I agree. What I think is most want the lower bands to penetrate into buildings so they can receive calls and stuff like ATT. For most t-mobile customers (like myself) it is a hard sell. What I love is the bootloader is unlocked, slider, camera, GPS, etc. I am waiting for the global rom to see if it will support volte. I might get the "palace special" with the 10GB.
What I am worndering, right now, is if broadcomm hard coded the shut down codes into their gnss GPS chip so that people in the United States will not be able to receive the european and china GPS signals. If that is the case then a software upgrade after November 16th will not ever allow anyone in the United States to recieve the european GPS signals. Again, another deal killer.
I have a Mix 3 in my hands. Will look for a fastboot rom as backup and then test this TWRP.
Congrats! Did you successfully add Google Apps?

magisk requires an unlocked bl.. period.. installing it in daemon mode or system mode is also possible but that defeats the purpose and you need an unlocked bl to even do that

Actually thinking about it i have forced magisk into a phone with a locked bootloader (figo gravity...idk lol long time ago) but on 6.0...im sure that samsung has more security on their phones so it might not let me force the img through odin since its not even signed.
