What kind of battery life is everyone getting now that they've had the phone for a while? I'm down to having to charge the phone twice a day, with less than 2 hours of screen time usually. I'm at 8 hours total, 1 hrs 50 minutes screen time, and down to 25% as I write this. I feel like I got more than twice that when I got this phone 4 months ago. Latest update to MM hasn't made any difference besides it blaming all battery life on screen instead of android system. Total time is almost identical though.
After upgrade to MM my battery is the worst it has ever been. Down to 10% in 10hr with 1hr screen time , this is sick.
Really mine gives me a whole day with heavy use

Two days for me, on a single full charge. Loving MM.
I just did another factory reset. Going to test it today, but the battery life combined with WiFi issues may just make me do an early upgrade to the 7. I couldn't get two days on this phone even if the screen never came on.
What the hell are u guys running in the background, sheesh. Less than 2hrs SOT is crap. Im at 4:40hrs SOT and currently at 30% battery

That is exactly what these manufacturers and carriers want us to do. Make us wait for a major upgrade, then release a new model phone, then finally upgrade last years flagship but release it with bugs to encourage us to buy the newer model. My .02
My Edge + is currently Stock running MM 6.0.1
(Have a 2nd Edge Plus for rooting and tinkering) heh
I can get 4-5 Screen On time and get around 17-20 hours battery Life.
I'm satisfied with it as I'm a power house user and my Phone is just packed with loads of games and time-wasting apps that take up a lot of cpu power
3 hrs SOT Average. Normal to heavy use. Voice calls with VoLTE on eats more battery than screen! But again, I get good network coverage with VoLTE on. It's a tradeoff!
After 3 resets marshmallow now gives me about 3 hours screen time over a 10-12 hour period, much better. I'll stick with the phone for now!
Two days of light use. All excess garbage like NFC and beaming services turned off or frozen/uninstalled, bloatware frozen or removed with titanium, force doze app (which is awesome).
Hi, my Pixel XL arrived last night (got it very cheap brand new) and today, the battery seems very bad. I've installed the 8.0 OTA and 2 security updates since last night and installed all the apps I need (had no issues with the same apps on my 6P) however, the phone doesn't seem to be dozing properly and seems to be draining fairly fast. When I took the phone out of the box, it was at 52% and I drained that all while updating and setting it up, with 2 hours and a half SOT. However, today, I am on a data connection, with an hour of SOT and at 65% battery.
Do I need to give it time to settle? Seems odd to me...
Thanks

I would definitely give it time to settle. If your worried about the drain you can check battery usage with an app like AccuBattery. Also some apps have not been optimized for Oreo yet. If your still seeing this in a week I would start to get more proactive on figuring out a reason why.

Gotcha. So is it not worth factory resetting yet then?
I suppose if it still is bad, I could revert back to 7.1.1 after a week. And at the very worst, I can return it within 30 days. (I don't want to return it though!!)

1) Your experience with draining 50% of battery charge while installing new OS and 2 security updates plus apps with SOT of 2.5 hours is not unusual. Just having the screen on for 2.5 hours should drain between 35 and 55% of battery of XL depending on brightness and screen content. Add to the fact that many files need to be moved in the process, and that adds even more battery drain.
2) However, an hour of SOT should not drain your battery for more than 15-25%.
3) I don't think modern Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries "settle." They are very carefully crafted, calibrated and tested at the factory. Their voltages are very consistent with regard to their capacities.
4) What you need to do is figure out what drained your battery by simply looking at the Battery page of Settings. If your biggest drain is from Phone Idle, then perhaps you are in a low cellular signal area - the phone uses more cellular chip power in such areas to maintain connection to cellular towers, and that drains significantly more battery. If your biggest drain is from Android System, you may have a rogue app that keeps your phone awake when it shouldn't. It may also be a combination of the two.
So I am loving my new Pixel 2 XL, but i have noticed my battery life isn't nearly as what i see on the review forms. like with light usage only 2 hours of being unplugged, im at 77%. I came from my nexus 6 and transferred all my apps from it so it might be an app sucking my battery life? i don't know. any suqqestions would be good. I am rooted with magisk with the GMS Doze addon to try to help with this problem
It could be anything. At least with the root access, you can get many decent apps to track the apps that may be causing this. The battery on my 2 XL (stock) has been spectacular so far. I was a little bit worried that 8.1 may change that, but seems like it is even better now. For the first time in years, I am not worried about the battery at all. Even if I forget to charge overnight, I am OK going to work with about 40% of battery as I know I can get home with still something left in it. The only reason why I often check battery stats is because I still can't believe what is going on.
I am. Getting great battery life also rooted
Do a factory reset

I personally had worse results when I tried to tweak doze. Greenify also made things worse. My best results are leaving everything alone.
i think im gonna give it a few charge cycles before i do anything. i havent let this phone die yet, and i think the culprit might also be the life360 app.

I agree with this and I remember similar findings on the OG Pixel XL. I'd start by disabling the doze tweaking apps and see how it goes.

Check which app is draining the battery. My brother's unit for some reason had Google Play service draining 46% of the battery. After I flashed back to factory (without wiping) and enrolled the phone into beta program for the service. That worked out for him. (version 8.0 November patch)
My battery life has taken a significant hit since going to 8.1. No new apps (a few app updates through) but it is a noticeable difference from just a week ago. It's still impressive, but prior to 8.1 I would be at 70-75 at this point in the day with around 2 hours screen-on time, currently at 60% with only 1.5 hours screen-on time. I just got super spoiled for about a month or so with absolutely incredible battery life. Now, I have to live with "just" very good battery life.
First-world problems.

That's my experience as well. I haven't done anything to tweak my phone to try and get better battery life. I'm 100% stock. No unlocked bootloader. No root. Just out of the box. I'm getting 7-9 hours SOT over 24-32 hours depending on what I'm doing.
What I have noticed with 8.0 it use to drain a lot slower the first 30 to 40%, then it will drain faster, in 8.1 it is more consistent, I still average 7 to 8% SOT per hour and .3% an hour when screen is off. The phone still last 2 days with 7 to 8 hours SOT and I will be at around 25 to 20% still available. I had the phone since Oct. 20th and based on Accubattery I have charged it only 25 times in total
Remember that they fixed how battery life is calculated with the update. Also, you can looks under Background check under developer settings to stop specific apps from running in the background

That's some heavy battery drain, mine wasn't that bad, but close. If you spend most of your day somewhere with a weak mobile signal, try switching off "Mobile data always active" from Developer options. My office has very bad signal, and by switching off that setting, my battery improved a little bit. Nothing major, but it was noticeable.
Mine has changed noticeably, though not anything enough for me to be concerned in my daily use. Still getting 7 hrs SOT, just less stand-by time.

I rooted mine for like 2 weeks. I ended up relocking the bootloader and unrooting it. It just runs better that way.
This was me leaving it screen off unplugged for half the night and I can tell you right away the walelocks don't look right but I can't figure out what. https://imgur.com/a/SPIdL
I'm getting 7 hrs of SOT consistently. Not even close to sub par for me. That's heavy use as well.
I've noticed that many times people with poor battery life transferred everything from another phone. It seems like a crap shoot compared to starting fresh. Pre and post 8.1 I'm getting 6 to 7 hrs sot using around 55% brightness and mostly lte.
Seems like a lot of people are experiencing battery drain from Google Play services 11.9.51 (including myself).

So i factory resetted and reinstalled all my apps and stuff and still not getting good battery life. in 30 minutes from a full charge i was down to like 85% and that was just from listening to music
i cant tell what is causing it besides probably Google Play Services, so i enabled Doze on it via magisk, and still nothing. i highly doubt it's a defective battery
Hi.
I've been using Mi 6 for 14 months and I recently noticed a huge drop in battery life after updating from MIUI 10 Beta to Stable. Few days ago I changed my ROM to OmniROM because I thought my battery would last long with less Android System battery usage, but in the end it was still the same. My battery used to last a whole day with normal use and occasional game playing, today for example I lost 50% in three hours. On AccuBattery I supposedly have 2400mAh instead of 3350, although the number kept changing for a few days so I'm not really surprised, I don't believe the app is really that accurate.
My question here is if anyone has/had the same problem and what could I try to fix this, except buying a new battery.
Thanks in advance.

I would recommend to completely drain the battery to the point of not being able to turn on even for a few moments, then charge up to 100% for 1-2 times, i had done this to my S5 which had a very crappy battery (it was in use for like 3-4 years with the same battery) and after that it worked like a charm, but, this is a big but, i dont know if this is going to work in this situation.

Batteries shouldn't be drained to zero.. Doesn't do them well...
But actually I'm having similar problems lately. It drains 10% or more over night in airplane mode.. In on RR OS..

I switched to Lineage OS and the battery does last longer now, I even removed the AccuBattery app. Just in case I ordered another battery and I might even replace it if the battery use turns out to be the same or even worse than before.

Hey guys.
2 weeks with the Note 10+, 256GB/12GB - Exynos. I keep seeing those wonderful SOT reports. 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours! I'm not even talking about those posting screenshots of 12-14 hours...
They all use WQHD. They all use Facebook. They even use youtube and netflix, on wi-fi and on mobile with more than 50% brightness, and they all get at worst 8 hours of Screen on time.
Little me, on the other hand, uses mostly whatsapp and text, reduce his brightness when possible, check for hungry apps all the time, yet even on Airplane mode, I barely get get to 0% with 5 hours of SOT.
What am I missing? What is the magic trick? Is it possible that I'm having some sort of a hardware failure? Bad luck?
Don't get me wrong, 5 hours of sot, compared to my dying and evil LG G4 is still amazing, but I just can't wrap my head around this difference between exactly the same devices, this huge difference.
Let there be light
and sot.
in the same boat as you are my friend.. note 10 + exynos is a ****ter..

Don't worry mate, those 8,9,10 hours of SOT are for people who watch lots of Videos like YouTube etc on their device and seldom use camera or do gaming on their Phone. SOT is very subjective and differs from person to person. I get 5 to 6 hours of SOT myself and is pretty happy with it
As others said it's hard to compare, for example weak cell/wifi signal can discharge battery pretty fast even with screen off. After saying that, you should disable everything you can that you don't use. Also, forget SOT, see how much your phone discharges overnight when it's not in use. For example charge before sleep to 100%, wake up and see what's the charge after 6-8 hours of standby. If it's less than 94-92 %, then you may have rogue app than runs down your battery and finding it and fixing it may help you a lot.

No, it is not
Anything over 5 hours is not that bad imo! However, i would expect that the note 10 plus should easily be hitting 6 hours minimum for the majority of users depending on there usage! I have literally only got my hands on my device today and after about 30 minutes use plus a software update it has dropped just 6%
my .2 cents , if your phone can last long enough for you to achieve what ever you want to do achieve in day and without you running behind a charger then you got yourself a keeper .
so don't worry about SOT , standby time ... use your phone to its fullest extent and enjoy it

I can totally agree with that, but there's this little voice in my head (Well, there are plenty, but that's not our current burning issue), that's just keep telling me that it doesn't make sense that when both people use the exact same device, with almost the exact same settings, the difference will be so big...

Living in a small country, compared to some people who use the same network in the same city (Maybe 5km from each other). Obviously, it's still not a purely scientific comparison, but it's something/
I used to wonder why there was a big difference between my battery performance and the ones I see on the net. Until I went to Taiwan for a vacation. My sucky battery phone then suddenly lasted the whole day. And that was with constant gps usage, constant checking, messaging, googling, etc.
I think the network strength and consistency is the biggest determinant of battery life given the same usage patterns. I live in the Philippines where the signal is not great which is probably why i get a lousy battery life compared to others.
However, the Note 10+ is giving me the best ever battery life ever. Out of all the phones I've owned, this is the only phone to actually surpass the 5 hour screen on time mark.

Signal strength affecting battery life makes sense, I have heard that before, but I have tried going a full day with just Wi-Fi, airport mode and no sim installed, and I got just the same results, so I guess that in my case, it's not related (sadly).
During my normal daily use, at the end of day I end with SOT of 3 to 5 hrs and 65-45% battery left. So absolutely I can get 8-10 hrs and this is with highest screen resolution, 50% brightness, GPS, BT, NFC, AOD and Edge screen on. You may have rogue apps running in the background and using your battery, did you check under settings/device care/ battery what is using your power, even if it's not very accurate, could give you some hints.
I check it constantly, no rogue apps whatsoever. I even did a factory reset, installing only whatsapp and disabling some Samsung apps, yet I still can't reach more than 5 hours of SOT, in almost "lab clean" conditions. Honestly, it's driving me mad.
How much do you loose overnight, when phone is not used at all. It should be no more than 0.5 to 1% per hr. Also force stop whatsup for few hours, maybe is searching and updating too often. I know what you mean, I had a phone couple yrs ago, wouldn't last whole day even if not used, drove me crazy until found out I changed some obscure setting in wifi before and forgot about it, once I reversed that setting phone went back to normal 0.5% per hour (it was discharging 10% per hour even not used before fix).

The Exynos SoC is garbage.
I learned the hard way with the Galaxy S10+. I thought to myself: "I'll buy the Exynos version so I can have an unlocked bootloader and enjoy custom ROM's and all the good stuff!" Little did I know, it's tough to enjoy the good stuff with such crap battery life.
Snapdragon users of the S10+ were reporting amazing battery life, meanwhile I couldn't get 4 hours of SoT with very careful use. I decided not to make the same error with the Note 10+ and ordered it with a Snapdragon SoC. I can happily report 7-8 hours of SoT and it was only getting better. I'm back on the OnePlus 7 Pro because I may return the Note 10+ for the Galaxy Fold, but I am leaning towards keeping it because the camera is so damned good.
Either way, never buy an Exynos phone. I enjoyed my S8+ with the Exynos chipset, but made a grave error with the S10+. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you need the radio bands that only the Exynos version has - look into getting a battery case because you'll need it.
Good luck Exynos users
