link2SD second partition not mounting - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

So i have link2SD and i have my Micro SD split equally but one partition won't mount, ext2 gets read and allows data copy via link2SD but I can't access it and the other partition won't mount at all so I can't use it for storage. I used part of this tutorial to help

Try exFat.
Sorry you said you tried that. Would if you would reformat the whole card and recreate the partition. And by the way, the android system uses ext4(the app partition). Don't know if it makes a difference though.

[Q] ext4 What is it?!

I have been using a custom ROM for a while now and I have been seeing in the thread that many people are using ext4.
I have asked many times in the thread and recieved no reply.
So my question to you is what is "ext4" and what bennifit will it be to me as a Desire owner.
Thanks

EXT4 is a file format used by Linux (Android = Linux). When threads talk about EXT4, they are referring to creating an EXT4 partition on your SD-Card e.g. have 14GB FAT32 and 1GB EXT4 (from 16GB SD-Card.. 1GB is always non-existent)
What having an EXT4 partition enables you to do, is to have Apps/Data2EXT scripts which move apps to the EXT partition, giving you a lot more internal space.

Moving some of the app data to the sd-card is different to having an EXT partition and A2SD.
If you activate A2SD, the system will install and store your apps on the EXT partition, and your internal memory will not be filled up, and will remain at xxxMB. Furthermore, with an EXT partition you can use D2EXT, which makes your phone use the EXT partition as the data partition, so if you have 1GB EXT4, your phone will see 1GB memory.
If you use the inbuilt "move to sdcard" function, it only moves some of the sd-card to the android-secure folder on your sd-card, however your internal memory is still used up.
In addition, moving apps to sd-ext partition doesn't break app widgets like the stock app2sd method that Gingerbread use.

Reason: With A2SD / DATA2SD / etc. Android still "thinks and tells" the Apps are still installed in the internal memory (at least this tells me my logic).

[Q] s2e cant find my sd-ext partition

i formatted my sdcard then i made and sd-ext partition trough cwm 5.0.2.6
and s2e cant seem to find it.
cwm creates a corrupted ext-sd partition, if you are on windows use the minitool partition wizard, or if you're in linux, and already have the corrupted partition use gparted to fix the errors, or create the partition again.
Had told you already.

Px is based on CWM. Do U use CM9?
no...cm7.2
Well, everytime cwm formated the ext4 ext-sd it was corrupted for me... And I used gparted to fix it... When I used minitool to create the partition it also worked well.... Did you activate the ext4 setting in s2e?
Install a SD card/disk tool, s2e uses FreeSpace. It will display if your partion is well formatted or not. Also you can try mounting sd-ext in recovery, if it doesn't mount, it's corrupted. But the best solution is of course using Partition Mini.

Links2SD with Linux

Hey,
I am using Linux as my primary OS (Arch Linux). I don't have Links2SD installed at the moment, but I'm thinking of installing it. Since I use Linux as my OS anyway, is it necessary to have a FAT partition? Can I just format the whole sdcard to ext3 or ext4?

Why would you format whole memory card as Ext4? BTW Link2sd won't work well if you have partition of more than 2 GB.

So that I will have The whole of my sdcard as internal memory. I basically don't need FAT/NTFS because I don't use Windows. My OS (Arch Linux) can read ext* filesystems too. In fact, all drives on my PC are ext4.

the only problem that I could imagine is that link2sd expects the ext-partition to be the second on the sd-card. but I don't know how link2sd works. I did it manually and just linked /data/app and /data/dalvik-cache to the ext-partition on the sd-card. another good reason to use 2 partitions might be the fact - if I'm not completely wrong - that the first partition is unmounted if you connect it to the pc and activate file transfer mode. if you linked whole /data to this first partition you might run into problems.
You'll still need a fat partition. Or at least two partitions, one for files and one for link2sd.

[Q] About Ext partition from CWM

Hi, I have bought a 4gb SD Card, and made Ext partition from CWM 5.0.2.6.
Anyone can tell me what ext partition I have made: ext2/ext3/ext4? How i can upgrade to higher ext partition?
Sorry for my bad English
Thx for reply
I think you shoud use pc and partition managers to know that and upgrade.

I think you've made a EXT2 partition, CWM only goes up to EXT2
If you're using a Windows PC, you can download and use a tool called MiniTool® Partition Wizard (Home)
Delete the EXT2 partition on your SDCARD and make (move/resize) a new EXT4 Primary partition with a cluster size of 4KB
Hit Apply on the Top-Left corner

[4.3] Can't mount external partition with Link2SD on rooted Xperia M

Hi all,
I have a sony Xperia M (C1905). Till some days ago I have the old android release with rooted access and link2sd. All worked good.
With the last 4.3 update I had some problems, since I'm not an expert android developer . However I managed to root my phone using the haresh311999 guide.
I have my phone rooted, checked also with Root checker. I've also SuperSu, BusyBox and Link2Sd app. I've enabled the debug mode and checked the MSC storage mode.
But in Link2sd I cannot mount my external partition in which I used to link all the bigger apps. I've an ext3 partition and before the 4.3 upgrade it worked good. Now If I try to rebuild the script I got an error:
Mounting script cannot be created (This string isn't the original one, since I'm not english).
"mount: Operation not supported on transport endpoint"

You can try to set second partition with FAT32,,
My partition workin' perfect,,

Also my ext3 was working good.
I don't want to lose all the data in the partition...
If there are some fixes I prefer to try before format it... Now I just had an idea: I can try to do another partition with the minitool and try if there is only a filesystem problem...
must be ext4 on my working fine and fast
and i got bootloop :/
Root device clean partition and create new and mount script should be ok

Well, I am sure you must be using Link2Sd to mount games/applications on your Xperia.
Mind if I suggest that you can use FOLDER MOUNT
FOLDER MOUNT LINK
This is amazing little software which requires root but it doesnot do anything more than telling games where to find the OBB files.
In free version, you can mount upto 3 games where as in full version, you can use unlimited mounts!
Check it out and you wouldnot use Link2SD any more

Same problem on a different device... solution: in Link2SD, choose EXT4 (even if the 2rd partition is actually EXT2/3).
This worked for me, and I didn't lose any data in the EXT2 partition. No reformatting needed.

Will ext partitions work on our XM?
I had tried many times.
boot loop was the result :crying:
I had formatted all types of ext versions. no hope.
Now I am using Memory Swap (JB 4.3)
but still I want Link2SD to be worked.
I have Link2SD Pro App.
Will Link2SD work with swapping?
Now I have been using "nicky root" for rooting, since its a "full root" method.
I have a reserve of 5GB for second partition; not formatted.
Please guide me......
I have a LG L65, had the same problem, but could fix it
Hi, guys.
I have a LG L65 running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. I had the same problem. My phone was rooted (using towelroot), my SD Card was partitioned, but couldn't get the mount script. I tried what some of you said about creating an ext2 partition and choosing ext4 on Link2SD, and it worked.
Also, don't know if it matters or not, but I'll say it anyway; I was using FAT for my data partition, but switched to FAT32.
Great, ext4 did the trick. Thank you very much!

Bootloop?
I did the ext4 option trick, but somehow now it just turns off suddenly after that and keeps looping at the boot until I remove the SD Card. Any tips?
PS: I also re-formatted the SD Card over to the ext4 format, and that didn't work either.
