[Q] About Ext partition from CWM - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi, I have bought a 4gb SD Card, and made Ext partition from CWM 5.0.2.6.
Anyone can tell me what ext partition I have made: ext2/ext3/ext4? How i can upgrade to higher ext partition?
Sorry for my bad English
Thx for reply

I think you shoud use pc and partition managers to know that and upgrade.

I think you've made a EXT2 partition, CWM only goes up to EXT2
If you're using a Windows PC, you can download and use a tool called MiniTool® Partition Wizard (Home)
Delete the EXT2 partition on your SDCARD and make (move/resize) a new EXT4 Primary partition with a cluster size of 4KB
Hit Apply on the Top-Left corner

[Q] Problems with A2SD (non Froyo Version)

Hi there,
I have a little problem with a2sd.
I partitioned my 16 GB sd-card to 15GB Fat32 and 1 GB ext3.
My actual rom is AuraxTSense-8.1.1. Everything is fine ... the Desire says
640 MB ram left for applications ... that's ok.
Same when I flash MIUI. All is ok ... ok MIUI is not my favorite rom, so I want to flash the new AuraxTSense_8.4_Official_OTA_2.2_FRF91_A2SD+.zip, but there is
the problem. This rom did not notice my ext3 partition for apps, although it is an A2SD+. Same with LeeDrOiD_V2.4_A2SD.zip. On all flashing session I did a full wipe.
Now I'm back to the AuraxTSense-8.1.1 with working A2SD.
I searched the inet and forum, but I didn't find any good clue. Only hints how
to partition the sd-card. And my partition seems to be ok.
Hmm ... anyone any hint for me? AuraxTSense-8.1.1 is a bit unstable, it reboot without any reason once a day, MIUI is not mine ... I love sense ...
Thanks for your help ....

Possibly wrongly partitioned?
Try to re-partition it.
Download Gnome Partition Editor (GParted Live) here on CD or USB.
Read the documentation at on GParted website ~ how to partition your drive? (Most answers of your questions are there).
Backup your SD card data to PC before start partitioning.
Boot into GParted Live on CD or USB (Make sure that your motherboard first boot is either CD or USB).
Follow onscreen instructions to get GParted Live loaded.
Note – select your SD card as the drive. DON’T select your hard drive.
Delete every partition on SD card.
First create a primary FAT32 partition.
Then create another primary ext(2,3 or 4) partition ~ 1GB or more.
Exit GParted Live and back to Windows.
Copy back your data to SD card.

please try this:
Take a Usb-stick.
! YOUR DATA FROM YOUR STICK WILL BE LOST, BACKUP BEFOR GPARTED INSTALL!
! BACKUP YOUR DATA FROM YOUR DESIRE SD-CARD, ALL DATA WIL BE LOST USING THIS METHOD!
Download gparted, install it using unetbootin.
start gparted form your usb-stick.
Mount your sd-card in clockwork-recovery.
Remove all partitions in GParted from your desire sd-card.
create a new partition form about 1Gb ext-4.
then create a new partition (fat-32) that fils the rest of your sd-card.
Note: the ext-4 partition needs to be in front of the fat-32 partition.
restore your desire sd-card data.
I hope this helps
@davebugyi: This was the exact way I partitioned my sd-card ... strange ...
@Keon91: The ext4 partition before the fat32? I thought ext after fat ... ok let's give a try ... must it be ext4 or is ext3 ok? I heard ext4 reduces sd-card life?
Thanks ....
TechZombie ...
as I can remember I had my ext4 partition in front of my fat32 partition.
when I view my partions in gparted ext4 is in front of fat32.
fat32 has label : sba1.
ext4 has label : sba2.
I never heard ext4 would reduce sd-card life. In the insertcoin thread they recommend a ext4 partition.
Finnaly I solved it ...
First I tried ext4 in from of fat32. Problem: Windows didn't notice the fat32 partition.
@Keon91: The lables of your partitions show that in your configuration the fat32 is also in front of the ext partition.
After this, I partitioned again with gparted to 15gb fat32 and 1gb ext3 ... both primary ... and now ... i don't know why ... the ext3 is found by a2sd ...
Thanks to all ...

Possable to make a 1gb EXT4 with out format?

Every sense ROM requires a ext4 so i was wondering if i could make a partion of 1gb on my SD card with out reformatting, if this is possible any links or help would be appreciated.
thanks
Try MiniTool Partition Wizard.. [sometimes] allows you to resize your FAT32 partition and put in an ext4 and change both to primary....
Sometimes it lets me resize, sometimes it doesn't. Have yet to figure out why though..
Don't use mini partition wizard. Many users reported it destroyed their sd card. So use GParted, it's worth it to deal with this software.
Not all sense roms need a partition, try cool bravos

Recently I partitioned my sd card with gparted and vmware. Didn't had to format card. Gparted managed everything. Very powerfull and easy tool.
Just follow @rootSU guide.

You can convert ext3 partition to ext4 by 4EXTRecovery, You don't lose any data from the partition sdcard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154221
Or you can use the file from coolex that your partition convert ext3 to ext4, just flash the same like rom from recovery.

Also Alignment_Cool.zip Convert Your Ext3 Partition To Ext4"

Yeah that's a bit slow but you could give it a try. I started with a class 2 card, too. Then I switched to class 6 because of the speed.

If you already have ext partition use recovery to convert it to ext4 as advised by Gramzz. if not its better to make backup and recreate FAT32 and ext4 partition you can also do this using recovery or use Gparted on computer.

[Q] ext4 What is it?!

I have been using a custom ROM for a while now and I have been seeing in the thread that many people are using ext4.
I have asked many times in the thread and recieved no reply.
So my question to you is what is "ext4" and what bennifit will it be to me as a Desire owner.
Thanks

EXT4 is a file format used by Linux (Android = Linux). When threads talk about EXT4, they are referring to creating an EXT4 partition on your SD-Card e.g. have 14GB FAT32 and 1GB EXT4 (from 16GB SD-Card.. 1GB is always non-existent)
What having an EXT4 partition enables you to do, is to have Apps/Data2EXT scripts which move apps to the EXT partition, giving you a lot more internal space.

Moving some of the app data to the sd-card is different to having an EXT partition and A2SD.
If you activate A2SD, the system will install and store your apps on the EXT partition, and your internal memory will not be filled up, and will remain at xxxMB. Furthermore, with an EXT partition you can use D2EXT, which makes your phone use the EXT partition as the data partition, so if you have 1GB EXT4, your phone will see 1GB memory.
If you use the inbuilt "move to sdcard" function, it only moves some of the sd-card to the android-secure folder on your sd-card, however your internal memory is still used up.
In addition, moving apps to sd-ext partition doesn't break app widgets like the stock app2sd method that Gingerbread use.

Reason: With A2SD / DATA2SD / etc. Android still "thinks and tells" the Apps are still installed in the internal memory (at least this tells me my logic).

MatDrOid, since you are also on MW. How do I make use of my ext4 partition I created?
I am guessing there is a way to just move to the ext4 via a app?

if it's MW based on oxygen, instructions on how to enable ext4 partition are in the first post, no need to use an app.
No it's the cm version using s2e and I think it's working lol

backup your sd card 1st
then use only 4ext recovery (requires s-off to change recovery) or gparted to create your partition (step 5 here)
sorry if i bump old post

[Q] s2e cant find my sd-ext partition

i formatted my sdcard then i made and sd-ext partition trough cwm 5.0.2.6
and s2e cant seem to find it.
cwm creates a corrupted ext-sd partition, if you are on windows use the minitool partition wizard, or if you're in linux, and already have the corrupted partition use gparted to fix the errors, or create the partition again.
Had told you already.
Dont create the same threads when it is answered

Px is based on CWM. Do U use CM9?
no...cm7.2
Well, everytime cwm formated the ext4 ext-sd it was corrupted for me... And I used gparted to fix it... When I used minitool to create the partition it also worked well.... Did you activate the ext4 setting in s2e?
Install a SD card/disk tool, s2e uses FreeSpace. It will display if your partion is well formatted or not. Also you can try mounting sd-ext in recovery, if it doesn't mount, it's corrupted. But the best solution is of course using Partition Mini.

Help needed partitioning an sd card

Hey guys, im trying to partition a microsd card (2gb, samsung), into FAT and ext4 for use with link2sd, using Minitool Partiticion Wizard.
Now, the Fat partition turns out well, but the ext4 one keeps ending up like unpartitioned space.
I tried formating into ext2, ext3, linux swap, change size, cluster size, no result. The only file sistem thats succesfuly is FAT, FAT32, NTFS.
Thanks in advance!
