Odd problem with alarms on new Mi Max 3? - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

I've a new Mi Max 3, I'm running the paid for version of Nova.
I've used an app called Timey for alarms for years on many handsets, never a problem.
On this setup the alarms never sound!
I've set the permissions to match the built in alarm app (which works) but no change. I've set the power options to no restrictions and all the notifications are on, but still no sounds and no on screen alerts!
I've cleared the cache on both Timey and Nova and rebooted the phone, still nothing!
TImey has a sound set and it's LOUD, so it's not that.
If I set a countdown timer and wait nothing happens, but when I open the app the countdown has completed and the zero's are flashing but nothing else?
Can any see what I've missed ???

Lock the app in Recents. Then, try it.
Edit: I just tested Timely, and that works without any issues without the need to lock it in Recents. I even killed the app before testing. It woke the screen up and worked. Make sure in Timely's settings, you change Effects to Full.

Galaxy Nexus not vibrating on notifications - Light Flow issue?

I've been using Light Flow for the last couple of days, but as of today my phone will no longer vibrate for notifications. The vibrator itself is perfectly fine - haptic feedback will still work and such and it vibrates on boot.
So, I figured the last Light Flow update that pushed out broke something. I backed up my settings, uninstalled it, rebooted, and expected my notification vibrations to continue working...
They didn't. I have it set to always vibrate both in sound settings and in all of my apps, but nothing seems to be working. I'm at a loss for ideas right now other then a factory reset. I am not rooted or unlocked yet, so I suppose it'd be a good chance to do it, but...
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Aha! I found the fix - for some reason, notification vibrations were disabled SEPARATELY from every other vibration. Like, not even in the apps. The application "Sound Manager" in the market was able to fix this.

Looks like you just beat me to suggesting using the app "sound manager". I refer people to this app after somebody managed to figure that out in the past.
Note lightflow itself only sends notifications to android to vibrate, there's nothing fancy going on regarding switching off vibrations in the app.
Yeah, I figured lightflow probably wasn't directly to blame since uninstalling it didn't fix the problem. I was just really worried about having to deal with a factory reset tonight, but I'm happy now!
Thank You

Thank you for posting this issue and your fix! I was having the exact same issue as you and could not figure out what the culprit was. Downloaded Sound Manager and found out vibration were set to off
Have any of you had problems waking your GN after installing LightFlow? I installed it after seeing this thread, and I can't wake my phone and have to pull the battery.

I just had this problem for the first time... I have lightflow installed.
Just tried Sound Manager V2, and set vibration to "vibrate whenever possible". Now all is well! Disappointing that this setting does not work in Android settings though.

Notification sound with no apparent notification item

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.
same thing here pixel 2 oreo 8.1 notification sound...no thing new in the "hot list" or email or message
very weird, and randomly at night too which is the suck
2019 and no change
Hello, same issue still persists in 2019. Every few weeks i must dump the default sound as it sets it self up again.
Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...

Notifications never working

To start, I've mentioned this in the ROM thread and no one ever got back to me. Twice. Not sure if it's a ROM issue or a permission I accidentally blocked when sweeping through system and app permissions.
ROM: freedom os (obv rooted)
Problem: notifications only show up on a few applications. In particular, LINE and text messages. No other apps on my entire device gives notifications at all. What I've found is that when I'm USING the apps, they'll show the notifications. Also sometimes after rebooting my device, all my notifications that have been "collecting" since last reboot will all go off (which leads to it making notification sounds and vibrating for a good five minutes).
I've tried googling this like crazy and can't seem to find the resolution. Again, I feel it's probably something I accidentally blocked when I shouldn't have, so any guidance would be appreciated!
Did you try going to settings->battery->battery optimization and setting the particular app to "don't optimize"?
Or in the same settings menu, you can completely turn off the battery optimization from the 3dot menu.

Sorry for the late response - I thought this emailed when a response came in lol. Anyway, yup I had made sure that wasn't set. As for completely turning it off, the 3 dots has "advanced optimization" which only has one switch, "Advanced optimization - restricted background activity of apps more aggressively..." which is turned off right now.
Still having this issue ( Afraid I'm gonna just have to wipe w/ another rom, but I like this rom minus this one issue so far

Notification LED simulation App

I stumbled on Reddit at this cool App that simulates a Notification LED using the actual screen. It was also featured on XDA and I decided to give it a try on the Mi9T. The App is called NotifyBuddy and is available for free on the Play Store.
My experience with it over a whole day was great. It actually looks like an LED lighting up. Since we have a Amoled screen it just uses a tiny part of the screen, so there is no huge battery drain. Also to prevent burn in it moves slightly in position every 5 to 10 minutes or so from left to right. You can have different colors for different Apps and how long the LED effect will be active until switching off. I have mine on for 5 minutes.
My major concern was battery life since when the App is active the phone probably doesn't go to deep sleep but after now 24 hours of the phone being unplugged I can say it's great. Just look at the Screenshots. I'm at 50% right now and almost 4,5 hours of SOT over 24 hours of usage. It works very well so far and if this doesn't get worse there is no reason to not keep it. Try it out guys if you are missing a Notification LED on the actual front of the phone.

Doesn't work for me, do you use your fingerprint scanner to unlock because I suspect it might be conflicting with that. None of those similar apps ever work for me
Doesn't work for me also, there its no way to make it work
Weird. It works for me
Doesn't work for me. I use fingerprint scanner. Wish it did work though, as this would be really helpful.

I guess you granted the app the required permissions ( asked when you first launch it) and allow notifybuddy to start in backgroup, display on lock screen ?
I'm running MUI global 10.3.10
Can anyone confirm who does have it working, that it works with fingerprint unlock?

I advise you to try this:
1. Remove the fingerprint.
2. Run the application, when you first start, allow notifybuddy to run in the backgroup, display locks on the screen.
3. And then create a fingerprint.
4. Reboot the phone.
A
- I received the 10.3.10 by OTA... (you can manualy check for update into the "about phone" section)
- NotifyBuddy is working with Fingerprint unlock activated. The fingerprints where created before installing the app.
Tried deleting fingerprint before installing the app.
Then tried again after.
Could not make it work. If anyone has any more suggestions, they will be very much appreciated.
Using Global Stable 10.3.10.0
Doesnt work with AOD
this should be a feature in custom roms.

Prof Reminder. Use this app and forget about any other app that involves notification LED. I use this app since i received this Mi9T. I was upset for missing the usual notification Led and i have searched for other options. This app does not consume any battery and is very easy to set up. When you have missed notification (WhatsApp, sms, call, etc), this app reminds you over and over.... Sorry if it's off topic or something but i just try to help! Respect!

Dude, you "saved my life"with this application.
I came from a OnePlus 3 and never had a Xiaomi phone before, and the lack of a visible LED was annoying me a lot.
I had it work for all of 5 mins and no matter what I try I cant get it to work.

Question New issue with Clock/Alarm

Alrighty, so in updating to the latest version Monday, I accidentally forgot to remove the -w flag and wiped my phone....my bad! I've gotten it almost back to where it was but have a new issue with Clock/Alarm. No matter what I do or try, I have a persistent "Alarm" on the Lockscreen. When I tap to wake the phone, it shows an alarm for 10 minutes in the future, under the Time/Date/Temp. Very aggravating!!! It never actually triggers the Alarm, it just keeps moving ahead.....crazy! I have tried blowing away cache and data on the Clock but nothing has worked thus far.
Suggestions appreciated!!
Take a look at the "Bedtime" tab of the Clock app. That's what happened to me - it got enabled by default I think when I got my P6P.
Edit: On second thought, this might not be what I experienced. Very weird.

click on the alarm tab and see if there are any alarms (even if they aren't toggled). Tap and delete each alarm, the persistent alarm icon should disappear. I remember when I first got my P6P, there were two alarms shown under the alarm tab in clock app, when I hadn't even set up everything or touched the clock. I deleted the 2 scheduled alarms and voila! no more icon in statusbar

You know, I was thinking that was probably the ONLY thing I havent tried.....I tried setting a new one and that didnt work.
Sadly, that too does not fix me. Unreal. NEVER FORGET TO REMOVE THE -w FLAG STOOOPID!!!
Did you reboot your phone after setting and deleting the alarm? I know it sounds dumb, but sometimes we just need to reboot.

Yes I did, several times. I even received a Clock update while troubleshooting this and still the same. Its just annoying, as it doesnt actually ring or anything...it just keeps roughly 10 minutes ahead of the actual clock.

This problem sounds so familiar, but I can't think of anything else specifically. Maybe try Android Settings / Tips & support / "Ask the Help Community" or "Contact us" if you haven't already?
SOLVED.......so I finally figured it out and remembered from a few years ago.......This is "semi-known" Tasker issue....I ws troubleshooting something else in Tasker and while crawling through settings I realized (remembered) that one Setting tweaks the Alarm as noted.....The "Use Reliable Alarms" setting needs to be disabled. Its as simple as that!!! Drove me crazy.......

AH! Wow. I must've come across that sometime in the past as well, although I don't exactly remember it - it just seemed so familiar. Glad you found your solution!
