my dad just bought an unlocked s9 on ebay. Model number SM-G960U1.
He wants to get ATT wifi calling on it. I think it might work if he installs the ATT firmware on the phone.
We got a modified Odin 3 and G960U_RB7_1
I load the files into odin and press start.
"<ID:0/007> FAIL! (Auth)"
I think his bootloader is locked. Is there any way around this?
Thanks,
Alex

Here's what happened to me on the same problem. I could never get wifi calling working on my unlocked S9, in fact the option never even showed in phone settings. I got an update yesterday for security and a camera feature but afterwards when I looked in my phone settings the wifi calling switch was now showing. I tried to enable it and it gave me an error. I then called support and had them activate wifi calling and as soon as I turned my phone off and back on I was able to start wifi calling. So you may want to manually check for an update and try what I did.

What's your current software version on S9? The Baseband version or build number.

Hey guys been stressing for 3 days with my wife's phone. She got the ota to 4.3 and everything seemed fine
until she rebooted the phone. Now any sim i put in says unregistered sim and cant connect. Strange thing is it says there is new voice mail which to me means it is connecting to the network. I've reverted back to factory 4.11 and same problem. But it's still on 4.3 bootloader and Knox is tripped. And since there is no way to revert i317m bootloader like 317 i can't fully go back. I did the free sim unlock and wonder if that could be the problem with it reading the sim cards? Is it like a code unlock? She's freaking and I'm so stressed. Any way to test if phone is reading sim? I'm sure this is software related because it doesn't say no sim and tells me there is new voice mail.
Not sure it would help but I would try reapplying the 4.3 update via Odin. You can find the update on Sammobile.
ok so I did the update again but threw odin this time and still not working. but there is a difference, when I try to select my network from the list it site for a while and says unable to connect, try again later.

I´m having the same problem, any solution?
I have an unlocked Verizon note 4 on ATT network everything works fine except when I try to update it....What can I do about it? Do I call Verizon or ATT? I also wiped the phone and still nothing.
I cant post the picture of the error message I'm getting but it says: Service unavailable. Software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.
Android version is 5.0.1
Build number is LRX22C.N910VVRU1BOAF

Since you aren't on Verizon's network you can't take OTA updates. But you can flash with Odin
Use the original sim if you have it.
I had the same problem because I was using a nextplus go sim card. Luckily I had my original sim that came with the phone. I just swapped it back in and updated over wifi from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. It worked perfectly.

I don't that means but I'll figure something out...
Not really technical when it comes to cell phones.
Is there any way to get wifi calling on att with an unlocked s9 from best buy? Flashing att firmware or would it be best to get the att model? Must have wifi calling for work reasons and I hate all the bloatware but might not have a choice.
at&t probably blocks it, if you don't get their version. I have an unlocked, but on T-Mobile, and it works.
I flashed the AT&T firmware on my unlocked S9 and wifi calling and video calling worked.
With the stock firmware on the unlocked S9 nether option was there
Can you point me in the direction of a download for the stock firmware for AT&T? I'm wanting to do the same as well, but feeling pretty clueless about where to obtain it. thanks!
Same here. It works for me on T-Mobile
If I flash the att firmware will I still get firmware updates?

if you flash the att firmware or buy it straight from att you will end up a device supporting the same capabilities. So it's down to your tech skills or budget.
Where can I find the latest att firmware? I did not see it on sammobile.
How to
Step 1 Go to this thread for Firmware (thanks @iBowToAndroid)
You will want to go to the link for the U firmware and find the folder with the AT&T userdata file (RB7) download the user data file and the full firmware.
Step 2 Go to this thread to get the modified version of Odin that recognizes the GS9 firmware files. (Thanks @mweinbach and Raymondf )
You will then flash the downloaded files from Step 1 in Odin, after flashing the firmware the phone will boot into recovery and you will need to wipe data and cache.
Thanks so much... that did actually help me... as a fairly tech savvy person who doesn't really get into this stuff much, the lingo I didn't know was leading me astray... I had come across that thread but didn't recognize it as anything that would help me. Thanks again! Onward to bricking my phone!

Thanks for the info. A follow-up question: is it possible to flash it back to the stock unlocked firmware? The reason is that I'll need to use foreign SIM card when I travel overseas.

I have unlocked version on TMobile and wifi calling works just fine.
Do you have to flash the att firmware to the unlocked version in order to get VoLTE? I don’t care about WiFi calling, just hd calling and being able to stay on lte when making a call, rather than have it drop to HSPA during the call.

I understand, but unless att has changed its policies in the last month, if u do not have an imei number on that account that is an att phone with wifi calling it will turn itself off as soon as your phone is interrogated by the network. Theres 100 threads on it , applies to unlocked s8, s7, etc...
Toggle is there because of firmware, not because it works.

Any help/guidance for me??
I have tried a few times to use the March 2018 RB7 files with the ATT user data to get my phone to ATT stock - primarily for the Enhanced LTE (data and voice at the same time), as well as Wifi Calling. I can't get that version to load. I did get a more recent version to load (RK1) - and maybe that is the issue. Just wondering if there is a newer set of files and what specifically I should use (AP,BL... UserData) to get the phone fully set to AT&T. I now have the wifi calling option, just can't get it enabled. Any help is appreciated.

When you try to enable it do any of the AT&T Wifi calling configuration screens pop up?
I flashed att firmware on an unlocked note 10 plus but att still sees it as an unlocked phone. Is it possible to change the phone to completey read as an attvbranded model? I called to see if they could provision the IMEI of my phone and they were able to tell right away it was not one of theirs, even though it was running att firmware.

No, because (as you found out) the IMEI number is not from an AT&T branded phone.

I have a GOOGLE unlocked phone. I flashed N975U firmware on my phone and also flashed ATT USER DATA at the same time.. When my phone booted up - it had all of the ATT BLOAT that comes on an Att phone - it booted up with the ATT LOGO - it shows ATT ICONS in the Status Bar for Data (5GE instead of showing LTE or 4G) and I have Wifi Calling and Video Calling working on my phone...
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=301224
That is all it took. I didn't have to call ATT - It all just worked - and it was not working that way BEFORE I flased Userdata.
YMMV but I have heard about others who had the same experience. Go tot he N975U Firmware thread and find the download for ATT USERDATA - That is where I found it....
Hope that helps you.....
Pixel and iPhones are supposedly able to do those things. I think that may be why it worked for you

Wish it was possible, but unfortunately no way exists.
If you have WiFi Callling, Video Calling and Volte working, why does it matter if ATT recognizes your phone as one of theirs or not? Just curious about what you are trying to accomplish ?
Hey guys new to the forum. I have purchased an unlocked note 10+. I was wanting to flash ATT firmware to it so I could have wifi calling video calling etc.. Anyways I have tried this multiple times with no success. I have downloaded what I thought was the right firmware but it still boots up with the samsung logo. When I use odin it says PASS and everything. Can anyone help me out here..?
You need to start from a reset phone. start phone with att sim. it will provision phone and restart. THEN flash att firmware. should boot up to att logo.

So I need to start at the beginning with a factory reset phone with a att sim installed? Also could you tell me where and what firmware to download for Odin?
yes. start from fresh reset in unlocked phone. then you will need to enable "usb debugging" , flash att firmware. (in "guides, news, and discussion" a post by iBowToAndroid) That is what I did to flash att firmware on my unlocked note10+. WiFi calling still does not work, hopefully a call to att will fix this.
Unless the IMEI is within a series in the AT&T system, no amount of calls or fiddling with the firmware will enable it. Even if you manage to get the AT&T boot logo, your carrier features won't enable. I'm speaking from experience dating back to the Note 9 and as recently as attempting with my wife's Note 10 upgrade. If you have a non-AT&T branded device, it will not provision the carrier features. At best, they'll be enabled for a day or so, maybe until a restart.

As I stated above, it will not. At best, it'll work for a timeframe of hours to a few days (or until reboot).
