US Unlocked on T-Mobile Question - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I am thinking of buying two from Samsung.com. Can anyone who has the US unlocked on tmobile verify if everything works? Or let me know any bugs you've encountered? TIA

Using Verizon HTC ONE m9 in Japan

Hey guys,
I read that the phone is "global" and sim unlocked, but I am wondering whether or not it will work with softbank particularly? I read that the service bands are different, but I cannot find any other source other than one, but people do say it should work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It is a global phone so it should work. However it makes little sense to buy a Verizon wireless m9 if you are not on Verizon. The phone is completely locked down and requires a Java card to turn soff. I would suggest looking at another carriers branded phone as most are cheaper anyways

I already have the phone. So I can get a sim card here and it should work?
It should be double check your freqs.

I'm sure there will be if the user base calls for it. Hasn't been made yet because the device technically doesn't launch until tomorrow on T-Mobile.
I'm curious if the T-Mo version will work flawlessly with AT&T. I've heard the Sprint and Verizon devices can be buggy.

The unlocked version should work flawlessly on AT&T already.
That it does but due to my wedding in three weeks followed by an expensive honeymoon, I lack the funds to purchase an unlocked one from anywhere other than BestBuy currently.
They say they'll eventually carry unlocked 10s, but really, who knows? They will have the T-Mo version though.

In the meantime, everything you read for the u.s. unlocked version translates directly to the T-Mobile version.
Can someone who got the T-Mobile HTC 10 today tell me what they put for the receipt number when they registered for the free ice view case and charger?
Thanks lol

I just put in the Trans #, they require a scan of the receipt anyway, so I recon it's just to cross check.
The proof of purchase will be the scanned document.

I just want to know if tmobile installed any extra software, and if so if we can uninstall it without root. My rooting days are way over.

The only T-Mobile apps on the phone are the T-Mobile visual voicemail app and the T-Mobile account app.
Edit: Their are actually a few more T-Mobile apps, I forgot because I disabled them lol.

Good to know. Thank you! Thinking about picking one up. I love my Moto X Pure, but I really miss having an HTC as my DD.
Does anyone know if the T-Mobile version has an unlocked bootloader and can install TWRP etc?

Even with the unlocked version we still had to go through HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader to install TWRP. I am willing to bet that it will be the same with the T-Mobile version.

@Behold_this the back of my device says 2PS6500 does this mean I can restore the RUU through download mode by placing the renamed zip in my SD card? Thank you in advance.

Verizon note 7 rootable/unlocked bootloader likely?

Is it likely at all that anyone will come up with a way to get around the locked bootloader for this phone?

Release date of Note 7 for US unlocked?

Does anyone know when the unlocked variant of Note 7 N930U will be available? I am just not buying a carrier branded one because of a lot of reasons...
I'm keeping close watch on this as well as I want to get the rom from it and install it on my TMO purchased Note 7. It's a good way to debloat and to get updates outside of when TMO says yes or no to them. I can't wait.
What reasons? If it's because of root, AT&T and Sprint variants have root.

I've had root on Android phones since the G1 but since the August patch to 6.0.1 it's just become to much of a pain in the ass to keep root and to have Android Pay. So the unlocked version of the rom doesn't come with a majority of Samsungs bloat ... it asks if you want to install the various apps during the first boot and you can say no. It doesn't come with the carrier bloat. These are the reasons. The only reason I've kept root on my Nexus 6P as long as I had was for greenify and with the Note 7 they've basically given that ability to the user without root. Folks have a lot of reasons to keep rooting ... I just don't. The OP might feel differently.
If you want the phone now, get the carrier Note 7 and then Odin flash the OS when Note 7 Unlocked is released.
For example, I bought the S7 Edge through AT&T but was able to Odin flash Unlocked software so phone is identical to unlocked version. I even got OTAs from Samsung directly. No root required and you can flash back to AT&T firmware and build if necessary.

But I don't want to root my phone;( I won't be able to use Samsung pay, Knox, secure folder...
I said "no root required". Samsung Pay and Knox work fine.

Oh wow I didn't know that would work!? Is it because they are exactly identical? I remember that was not possible in the past with Samsung devices...
Yes, identical phones only difference is build and firmware. On AT&T, you lose VoLTe and HD Calling. On T Mobile, you still get wifi calling and VoLTE.
I Odin flashed my AT&T S7 Edge with no issues. No it is unlocked version.

This is great to know. thanks! Just a bit confusion, by "No it is unlocked version" do you mean that AT&T locked S7 edge converted to sim unlocked phone? Can use different carrier sim by flashing ROM of unlocked version?

Yes, S7 Edge converted to Sim unlocked US version with no carrier bloatware. Phone can be used with any US carrier. Basically, turning a AT&T S7 Edge into a non carrier phone.

Wow, I didn't know that. I was planning to sim-unlock TMobile locked Note 7 via some third party online service, but I guess I will now wait for the official ROM for SM-N930U and flash to SM-N930T. Thanks!
Update: Apparently this is not true. Some research helped me to understand that flashing ROM does not sim-unlock your device.
The Big IF being if Samsung releases a US unlocked version like they did with S7 and S7 Edge.

Mine is but you'll have to request a SIM unlock from tmo customer support. It's easy and quick if you make up a really good lie for needing the device unlocked. Then you can do whatever you want with it
You don't need to lie. They aren't idiots and they aren't naive. They understand there is a large dev community and they are totally fine with that. So long as you are in good standing and it's not a new account, you should be fine with the truth. If you're not in good standing or the account is new, no lie is going to help you. A little respect never hurts, either.
OP: The device, as bought from T-Mobile, cannot be rooted until the carrier SIM lock is removed. Once this is complete, it is no different than any other Pixel and can easily be unlocked/rooted. Standard terms for SIM unlock are 40-days on-network and having the device paid off. Requesting an early unlock via T-Mobile Help on Twitter is an option as stated above. Hope that helps.
