Good Morning,
I have a big Problem with my M8, it wont boot anymore. Yesterday evening my phone shut itself down because of low battery and I let it charge over night on a wall charger. But It wont boot, no matter how long I press the power Button/Power Button+Vol. up/ Power Button+Vol. down....
When I connect it with a charger, the orange led is turning on and the battery with the lighting inside on the black background is turning up. Nothing special until now. But it doesnt stay in this state, after 3 seconds the screen gets black and the orange led ist turning off for 1 or 2 seconds. After this the same process is starting aggain. The Led is turning on, the battery icon with the lighting poping up.....
Is my M8 dead or does someone know to fix this?

I don't know how long you are trying to push the buttons (always help for you to be specific as possible when asking for help). But try holding power button only for a minute or more, as that is the length of time required in some situations. Many folks (myself included) have freaked out, thinking the phone won't power on, as they don't realize the button needs to be held for that long (and a minute is a pretty long time to hold the button - maybe a bit counter-intuitive).
If still no change, try a different charger and a different cable. Maybe the phone is not receiving proper charge.
I'm confidant you don't have a "brick" (such as damaged hboot, bad motherboard, etc.) since you at least get the phone charging graphic. I suspect the phone will boot (at least to the bootloader screen) as long as it has sufficient charge. Bad batter is another possibility. But seeing as replacing the battery costs money, and involves taking the phone apart; let's eliminate other possibilities first.

I have tried the following:
- Leaving the battery out for different lengths of time from 5 minutes to an hour
- Taking the battery out, plugging in to USB, putting the battery in, turning the phone on
The phone is rooted, unlocked and uses a custom ROM. I dropped it LITERALLY a foot and a half from a table onto a soft carpet, and didn't notice until a long time later that it wouldn't turn on. I don't know if the two were related as I didn't look at the phone after I dropped it.
I can only power the phone on if I use the method of taking the battery out, plugging in to the USB and putting the battery in, but whether I try the power button or any combination of volume up/down and power button, the phone stays on for a couple seconds then the screen turns off.
A few times the Google logo has come up and then disappeared and I've had some white scrambled/garbled display toward the bottom of the screen. As it sits plugged in to the PC now with the battery in, every so often it does the garbled lines on the bottom of the screen.
edit: Trying the Volume Down + Power for recovery flashes the screen with "Start" and the Android bot on it for a second, but then it turns right off again.
I'm thinking it's probably pretty screwed up but if anyone has some suggestions, I'm all ears. I'm worried about having to bring it in for repair (even though it's under warranty) because it's rooted/unlocked/custom ROM'd.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
After reading all this, my guess is your device is physically broken. Sorry man.
Hi Guys,
Strange problem here.
My M8 does not respond to any button combination at all.
But when I plug in the charger, the red LED Light comes up, the battery icon comes on the screen, the red LED gets brighter, and then everything goes black and the process starts again.
I was wondering if any of you guys experienced this, or know what this is? It suddenly happened.
I was thinking of a problem with the battery, but not sure?
M8 is running the latest insertcoin.
Charge the phone for several hours (overnight) on wall charger (not connected to computer). Then hold power + vol up button for a minute or longer, and see if any change (even if it's just the HTC logo screen). Folks often don't realize you need to hold the buttons what long in certain "stuck" situations, including battery drained/power off. That includes myself, I thought my M8 was bricked some months ago, as I was simply not holding the buttons long enough.

Thanks for the reply. Tried that already, but will try again later today. If there are more suggestions, always welcome.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for always helping in times of trouble.
I was using my HTC one m8 normally, playing with facebook. The battery was on 82%. Suddenly the screen frooze then the whole phone went dead completely. Not even a screen backlight. I tried to power it up. It didn't work. It had original ROM, with no modifications whatsoever.
Here is what I did so far, without any results.
- Charge it for few days with original charger and cable directly from the wall. No sign of life. No charging flashing light.
- Charge it with another cable. Nothing.
- Tried to access the boot menu to wipe everything clean. Pressed power+volume down. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Pressed power +volume up. Nothing. Dead Screen.
Pressed power + both volume buttons. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Connect it to the computer with updated HTC Suite. The computer said no phone connected.
I using a crappy old iphone now, but would love to get this HTC back to life. Any past experience with similar situation?
Any tips to resuscitate the dead phone?
Thanks a lot for your help.
In some "stuck" or powered off conditions, you may need to hold the button combos for a minute or so, before it actually reboots. So make sure you are holding them long enough.
But the fact there isn't even a charge LED, is concerning. Even in brick conditions, you should get at least an orange/red LED (maybe blinking? Can't remember). Makes me think the battery is bad.
Also play around with the button combos with the charger connected. I've seen a couple folks have luck with this, when nothing else seemed to work.
Additionally, the phone won't connect to PC when powered down; even on a working phone. You at least need to get to a bootloader screen to connect to a PC in any way.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I tried to do as instructed but it didn't work. I held the buttons on different combinations for at least two minutes but the phone stayed dead.
The only changed I noticed is one point I saw a very weak charging flash then it quickly disappeared and never came up again even when I repeated the process. Does this say anything?

Hard to know if this means anything specific. The symptoms don't look good. Might be bad battery, or other hardware failure.
Hey! Few days ago my M8 has stopped working. Just picked up the phone in the morning and it was dead (didn't charge it at night). Only charging diode glows orange when the charger is plugged in.
I've checked battery voltage with multimeter and it was 4,04V. Tried to hold power button with every combination with VOL+, VOL- and still nothing... Charging icon doesn't appear on screen. I've also checked every possible connection inside and everything is OK. Do you have any suggest? I really want to rescue it cuz it's the best audio recorder I've ever had Please help:crying:
Try holding just power button for a minute or so. Or try power+vol up for a minute.
Most folks don't realize you have to hold the button for so long, in this situation (battery ran down).

Try leaving it on the wall charger a few hours, and try again. Or try it with the charger connected.
I know you already tested the battery voltage as being good. But folks have had luck trying the various things I mentioned above. It's all you can do short of replacing the battery (which may not be the issue).
my device always red light is blinking. not open
HI All,
I recently did an unlock and ROM install and phone went great for a week or so, but now the phone suddenly shut down while on, and apparently with battery (my daughter says!) and now wont turn on at all.
If i plug it into a charger the battery filling icon turns on and the power LED lights up but then it seems to cycle off again very quickly and then stays in this cycle.
I have tried power + volume up and down combos but so far no luck. Any suggestions?
Leave the phone on wall charger for several hours. Then try holding power for a minute or so (it takes that long in certain "stuck" conditions). Also try holding power+vol up for a minute or so.
But what you describe (charge LED appears, then goes out) makes me think you may have a bad battery.
