I have turned off the Bixby button and Bixby voice but this doesn't turn off Bixby. If I press the button twice, which is very easy to do by accident, it's right back talking to me.
I'd like top get rid of it completely, and remap the button. Do I need to root my phone to do this? I just got it yesterday. I hate Bixby so much, I'm thinking about returning it.
Why can't I disable any of the Samsung bloatware? This seems so wrong.
Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

Why would Samsung make it easy to disable their own software that they went to the extreme lengths of adding a physical button to use it with?
well said
Good point!
Wow, if that works, it's made for me. Thanks so much!!
It worked! Hooray!!!!
How about an app to remap that button? Can you recommend anything?
BxActions can do exactly that

Search is your friend, you should try it sometimes.
I did a search before I asked the question, of course. There are problems with bxActions. You have to disable only part of Bixby, and then it flashes Bixby for a moment before moving onto do the alternative action. This doesn't work for me. I don't like the lag and I don't like the flash. I'd rather kill Bixby entirely. I was hoping there was a different kind of solution.
I prefer no Bixby at all, and using the button for something else isn't that important. In fact, it's so easy to press by accident because of it's poor placement, maybe it's best that it's disabled.
I came so close to having a good experience here - almost made it through without getting insulted by someone.
I leave my Bixby button disabled completely for the same reasons, terrible location (likely on purpose) and I don't need another button for anything anyway

This is a minor annoyance which plagues me now and again.
On a fairly regular basis, I manage to hit a key combination that deletes the whole line I've just typed. It must be SHIFT + something, or FN + something, cos I recall it happens when I'm trying to enter a special character I think.
Can someone tell me what the key combination is that I'm hitting when I don't need it, and more importantly, can I disable it? I NEVER need to delete a whole line, and I want this annoyance gone!
Any help appreciated!
This just happened to me tonight while emailing... it seems to be the combination of ALT and DELETE. I don't know how to disable it (I doubt you can), but knowing what keys you're hitting by mistake might help.
It's been that way ever since the G1. I hate it sometimes, especially after a long sentence and you didn't realize that it happened.
I've never found a way to stop it.
I would love for a way to disable this as well. Really annoying and I still make the mistake every now again.

If you change your keyboard you can get rid of that option I use ultra keyboard. It is a payed app, but well worth it.
Hello everyone, I just got my LG G4 LG-H812 and the first thing I did was download some apps. I went on youtube to look for apps that can better my experience with the phone. I downloaded the key plus app to change my volume up button to activate my flashlight instead of the quick note app. It was working fine at first but then my phone started acting weird. It was automatically answering calls and that got really annoying, so I did a factory reset to see if that would work. After the factory reset it's still answering automatically and now my volume up button doesn't work when the screen is locked. I tried reinstalling key plus and allocated the volume up key to turn the flashlight on but now even that doesn't work. The auto answer is also set to off and I've tried pretty much everything. It's getting really frustrating so If anyone out there has an answer or a suggestion for me I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.
Do you use the Circle app things?
Key plus doesn't work for me if I let the cover turn off the screen.
If I turn it off with the off button, the back buttons work fine.
What is that exactly? Is it an app that you have to download seperetely or does it come with the phone
Have had my phone for months, but suddenly the power button stopped working properly.
It's stuck in a recessed state and has no "click" to it anymore. It's very hard to press, but if I use my nail and push it in the power button does feature, but again no "click" or response to the button press. More than anything I am worried about it becoming permanently broken, likely leaving the phone unusable.
Due to some location/warranty issues, I think getting the phone replaced (for now) is near-impossible/not really feasible.
I am in New Zealand where Google doesn't have any presence and I am unsure if any local "phone repair" shops might even be able to fix it - especially if any replacement parts are needed.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice to try and fix the button myself? It was in a case since day 1 and I cannot recall any single time a drop would have happened or some dirt/sand/etc. would have gotten in and stuck. I used a "rocket blower" I use for my camera gear to just blow the button area, but no change.
Happy to provide more info if needed... all help is more than greatly appreciated!!!

All I can recommend is a soft key power button...on statusbar or navbar. You need to be rooted.
I use Fingerprint Quick Action app but same deal (root I think). With it I assigned double tap to fingerprint reader to turn off the display.
As for power button replacement, iFixit teardown of the XL doesn't look like an easy DIY thing, with display damage a likely scenario during disassembly. Good luck with that.
It's not a fix but for the moment Nova louncher has great gestures to lock the screen swiping up or down, double tap and more.
I know how this sounds, but try sealing your lips around it and give it a good suck. Like you'll feel that you're sucking air through other gaps in the housing. Popped my button out and it's clicking again. Might only be a temporary fix, but it's been a couple of days without an issue for me. Damn thing has been bugging me for about a month, sometimes getting stuck long enough to hard-reboot the phone. Almost felt like there was some sticky **** under the button.

This isn't working fo rme. Keeps asking to disable the bixby button when it already is...
The bixby button state cant be detected directly. Just disable it as advised an youre fine.
is there a way to open bixpy on double click in any way ?
No, but you can access it from homescreen by swiping right.

hmm, i found another solution, set samsung launcher back to "default" for one action, swipe, re-enable bixby button, and use long click for custom action. then move back to nova launcher
Great app, thanks <3
Coming from the S7, I wasn't used to having the extra button on the left and kept activating Bixby by accident.
The instructions for bxActions are straight forward and easy to follow, thanks. I've not got Bixby button for singlepress: flashlight, doublepress: switch ringing profile between loud and silent. I've remapped volume up and down for skipping tracks on double press and play/pause on long press, I might have to get rid of the long press because I never noticed how often I just hold the volume button to turn it up rather than keep pressing it.
I tried remapping the Bixby button with mixed results (S9 dual SIM).
1. No extra permissions: when the screen is unlocked it almost always launch Google Assistant directly without Bixby Home appearing. When the screen is locked, the Bixby Home page appears for a second and then Google Assistant is launched
2. Extra permissions: with the screen unlocked everything works ok, but when the screen in locked Google Assistant doesn't launch anymore, like the button was never remapped.
The only thing I hate about this phone is not being able to do what I want with that button. It drives me nuts. I completely disabled it for the moment.

I had this same issue; a reboot solved it.
running great on my S9+. Thanks!
This is great, I love it! I bought the pro version in the play store to support your work. Being able to hold the button with the screen off to turn the flash on is invaluable.
Everything works great so far, but no matter what I've tried, long pressing the Bixby button either results in Bixby popping up for a short moment before the action I have bound takes over, or if I disable the Bixby Service in Apps, then a notification popup telling me to enable the service pops up shortly before the action takes over.
Single press / Double press work great. But long pressing results in the issue.
Edit: Saw the part under Tips & Tricks. Trying it now.
Edit2: Disabling Bixby Voice in settings does the trick! I'm an idiot.
Meh you have to hook it to a PC to configure. I'll pass

You are awesome! Keep it up, this is amazing, working really great on my S9. Do have problems with deep sleep think, when i haven't touched my phone for a while where it doesn't work. I'd have to test more to be sure of the exact issue. But this app is amazing and I love it! Way worth the cup of coffee
it's just a totally useless option, since I immediately disable the assistant anyway, and it seems that generic button remapping apps don't detect that, and setting something else as the "assistant app" doesn't trigger on the button press either, any ideas?
I do have magisk, if that's the only way, although would be nice if there was an option not to...
Given its position, the ideal re-map for me would be a "shutter" button for the camera. Actually, having this as a physical button should be mandatory.
I found that just like on some other phones, it's hooking the button and explicitly calling a google assistant activity, and since it's "handled already" other apps, such as button mappers, can't do anything with it, but even at those other threads, I didn't see any solutions... I don't NEED the button, but I'd love to give some use to a useless button, such as an optimizer app, and flashlight (currently using like a xposed module or something, to trigger flashlight when screen's off, using power button), it's actually at a pretty great position for being a camera trigger too, yeah...
How to remap "assistant" button! [ROOT REQUIRED]
it seems that while adding non-remappable assistant buttons is a growing trend, solutions aren't easy to find, however the solution is real simple, you just have to modify the keymap file... I successfully managed to get the button detected by...

I figured it out!
I did it with a magisk module.
