Hi there,
My wife is a massage therapist and she uses her phone to play music with an unlimited plan through cellular service. She connects to a Jam Plus speaker through bluetooth while she works with clients.
With Oreo, if she put her phone in Do Not Disturb but allowed Media, an incoming call would not stop the music from playing.
With Pie, the incoming call disconnects her media from bluetooth.
Has anyone found a workaround? She has a Pixel, but I've tried the same thing with my Pixel 2 XL and indeed, an incoming call will stop the media from playing through bluetooth.
If I'm simply playing the music through the phone speakers without bluetooth while in Do Not Disturb, the call does not stop the music.
Any help is much appreciated.
Under Bluetooth settings for the speaker device (tap the gear next to the device name), try turning off Phone calls (or turning it on if it's already off). Leave "Media audio" on, of course.

Unless I'm not understanding what you are pointing at, I don't have a Phone Calls to turn off in the settings for that speaker (nor any other bluetooth previously connected device that I checked).
I only have a Media Audio switch which is already on.
Where would I turn off Phone Calls?

I have Nokia bluetooth stereo headset BH-503.
I'm using it fine for calls but lately I cannot seem to get music audio through them. I suspect it may have happened when Tmobile sent the OTA update out (my phone was in the first batch, now on 1.15.110.11). Note - im not sure exactly when this started so may not be the update.....could be a dodgy app?
I was using spotify and the htc music player with the headset fine when I first got the Desire.
Both 'phone' and 'media' settings are ticked in the bluetooth options and obv tried disconnecting then repairing the two but still no joy.
Has anyone else noticed this? any other media bluetooth problems?
I can be listening to Spotify or HTC music player thru the phone loudspeaker and when a call comes thru the phone correctly diverts the call to the bluetooth headset then resumes music to the loud speaker once the call has finished.
It's as if the bluetooth media audio capability has been disabled!? Any help would be appreciated, it's driving my nuts!!
hmm seems to be fixed. I did one thing differently this time.....
Instead of activating bluetooth via the widget or settings>wireless&networks> bluetooth where you can check the bluetooth box to turn it on, i went into:
settings>wireless&networks> bluetooth settings and activated bluetooth from there.
When it connects to device it now says 'connected to phone and media audio' and plays fine now even when switching on via the widget.
V odd. Oh well happy chappy again
My car has bluetooth built in and it works fine. It also has a USB socket, which shares the AUX button on my cars headset with the BT audio.
However, everytime I go to the car ( I leave by BT on all day as I am constantly in and out of the car) it automatically starts playing media files from the phone. When this happens, it disables the USB input , unless I pull out the USB and put it back in again.
I turn off the 'media' tick box in bluetooth settings for the pairing, hit return, yet the next time I get in the car, it turns itself back on.
Is there a way of permanently disabling the 'media' setting in the bluetooth settings for this pairing?
I have this phone also paired to another car, but that one doesn't have the media option in its settings.
Also does anyone know how to get the phone to connect to the headset during a phone call while the ringtone is ringing? This phone sends the sound over to the head unit as soon as the call is answered, meaning that I never know if it is ringing or not, or connected. It would be nice to hear the ringtone ringing over the speakers and before it is picked up.
A friend of mine has the same problem with his bluetooth carkit. But not only when he start his car. I'm curious for a solution.
It's your radio .. incorrect support and usage of bluetooth specifications
I dont think it is the radio, because I can turn off 'media'in the bluetooth settings/bluetooth devices/options, and leave 'phone'on.
The next time I get back into the car, media turns itself back on automatically and starts playing tracks from the phone through the radio.
The bluetooth pairing on the phone that exists for the other car I have does not have a media setting.
Is there an advanced bluetooth settings app that can permantly leave the 'media' button unchecked?
ignore this post
it is a similar problem to this:

I have the Tmobile Variant.
My setup is Plantronics Voyager 5200 (call audio only)
Logitech UE Megaboom (media only)
What? After making a call the music doesn't play on the BT speaker but plays on phone.
How? I have Pandora playing, I received a phone call or make a phone call and sometimes getting a notification from Hangouts too, somehow drops the MEDIA ability of the speaker and it reverts to my phones speaker. Even though I still see that the BT speaker is connected. I had SoundAbout on, so I disabled that, it still happened. Outloud as well.
Can anyone confirm that this is happening to them as well.
Its easy replicated. Just get a headset and a speaker. have one for media and one for phone calls and it should mess up like it does for me

I just tried it, and it worked as expected. It was a bit more difficult to get the phone to believe I wanted the split setup than I recall from the Note 2. I am to be able to end up variously with multiple devices connected for either call or media audio, and sometimes the media audio disappearing into the ether. However, once connected correctly, I had Pandora playing on an Exogear speaker, and took a phone call on Motorola P311 headset. Once the call ended, Pandora resumed on the speaker. I don't have Outloud or SoundAbout.

ugh, so I tred again..and somehow it isn't effecting me.
Freaking weird..I'll update teh post if I can recreate, cause apparently I can't...
Ok, So apparently its an app doing it, related to SoundAbout actually
I even installed SoundAbout and OutLoud and did multiple calls. No problem. On the other hand, both look like good apps, and I'm enjoying some Pandora which I usually don't turn on at the office.

I have a smart watch with calling capabilities (Samsung gear newest S2 model).
When ever I receive a call it automatically will forward the call to my watch.
I've scavenged the bluetooth settings, dolby atmos sound settings and call settings as well as my gear settings...
I cant seem to find an option to change default call audio out. Any ideas or work-arounds help.
you don't have Bluetooth headset paired to the watch by any chance?

Usually, with every Bluetooth device that is paired with the phone can access phone audio, media audio and contact sharing. Just uncheck the "phone audio" and when you receive a voice call, the call shouldn't be rerouted through your watch and you should be able to answer it from your phone. I've done this wai with Sony Ericsson MW600 with a bunch of different phones. Always worked.
Hope it helps.
Hello,
Please help me to solve this, otherwise this Watch thing is useless for my needs.
I have Watch Active 2 LTE [dont use LTE, nor have eSim on my current provider, got it since it was almost same price and had more RAM]
The watch synced with BT to ROG Phone 2.
I have Bluetooth headset that synced to Watch 2, i copied my Aduoibooks to the watch and listen to them from the watch, it works but low volume.
In Watch BT settings the Call Audio and Media Audio is ENABLED
BUT the moment I call to someone from my watch or someone calls me, I get Audio trough Watch speaker and watch microphone used as input.
When I open Bluetooth settings [during the call] the Call Audio and Media Audio automatically got disabled, and it stays disabled until i finish the call and press PLAY on the music player.
Maybe this is NORMAL and smart watches dont route call audio to Bluetooth headsets since audio goes from the phone to the watch and from the watch to the headset?
I tested bunch of different headsets, its all the same behavior
Please help, Thanks
Guy's anyone? Is it even possible?
