1440hr to unlock - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

I tried to unlock bootloader on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 pro. I know that, when you try for the first time, you have to wait 360hr, but for some reason I have to wait 1440hr. Does anyone know why? Could it be that I am on MIUI 10 Beta?

It sounds ridiculous...

WHAT? Are they out of their minds? I think that 15 days was already unacceptable but 2 months?? This is more than ridiculous. What are their intentions? To make android a bad replica of iOS? They progressively take back the freedoms that we have been enjoying in it. They are bricking our devices for downgrading, they don't authorize accounts for unbricking and they constantly increase the requested time to unlock bootloader. I'm afraid that at some point, which seems to be not that far, Xiaomi will stop being my brand of choice when it comes to smartphones. And that's bad because I'm not interested in buying a device from any other brand.

No wonder, people unlocking their phones and installing custom roms destroys Xiaomi's business model. TechAltar did a nice episode about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esUOQpKNLsE

I checked this morning and the waiting time went down to 704 hours. I'll keep you updated

So one day is equal to 720 hours ???? I think you did some mesh up with your mi account thats why you are seeing 1440 hours to unlock.. keep single mi account in your mobile and bind same account in developer setting

they should attack vendor rom installers then. they are the one replacing ads with crazy intrusive ones not from xiaomi.
as people that know how to use custom ROM, should be savvy enough to disable the default apps, or do ads blocking even witohut root

I only have one account, I didn't do anything strange. With the same account, since it is the only one I have, I checked again this morning, I have no idea why it went down to 704 hours, but I read that it didn't happen only to me

Yes I read, I was talking about the fact that it went down to 700 hours, but also that has happened to others. Honestly I find this ridiculous..

I received my phone today too and after trying to unlock, I got the 720hrs..

I thought the 15 day wait was bad. Xiaomi can stop using the excuse its to stop sellers putting malicious roms on their devices. This is anti consumer and will put devs off the brand which is terrible for everyone even those whos device is already unlocked

It's to keep people using MIUI, while giving the impression that they're open to custom ROM support.

It is definitely 720 hours now.
My first 3/32 model that I gave to my Fiancee was only 360 when I unlocked it (August 10th requested - August 25th unlocked). Now it looks like I'll be waiting until September 30th to unlock this 4/64gb model. *Sigh* Looks like im installing blockada again to fight Xaiomis damn ads, while using MIUI for the next month. I thought using it for 15 days was bad enough. I miss Lineage already... but at least my Fiancee will be happy.

This will be my last xiaomi. I will buy oneplus or a Pixel.

Stupid tutorials like this and youtube tutorials who tell people to unlock your phone send a message to xiaomi that you got fake ROM and want to unlock it to flash original MIUI.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ne-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-whyred-unlock-t3778049
Yes stupid tutorials like this probably made them to increase time because people send them the message that they got fake rom but they dont have fake rom.

wow this is something new , glad tht i have already unlocked mine. bad move from xiaomi .

This is ridiculous, 360 hours is the enough but I'm also getting 720 hours...

I got 720 hours too. Until then, i have to remove the bloatwares with adb and use nova launcher.

I think Asus is generous.. Maybe we can request it to them by sending email requests on their pages/sites?
With such specs, it would be a shame if ASUS didn't release a way to unlock bootloader!
Did ASUS release unlocked bootloader for any of it's devices?

I don't know what u call interest but getting rooted system images, and all thats being talked about like DeesTroy waiting for Asus to get his, and Shakalaka and Sorg developing what we have by now. It's pretty difficult to get custom roms without an unlock bootloader or safe strap or boot strap. I guess it's just me but users are getting pretty impatient these days with things that they know nothing about.

I agree, people need to be a bit more patient and appreciate the time it takes for persons to assist an entire phone community.. In time things will be put in place once the right steps have been allowed...
Be thankful we were able to atleast get root and that's a big thing IMO..

^^^^ this proves they are hoping some help from xda. Hope they unlock bootloader
when this phone was announced... I WANT IT !!
but now I have OnePlus One, and always have phones where we can make what we want, like Nexus, OPO, etc.... because even this asus phone is ultra powerful, he is locked, and can't install aosp roms .....
Because ASUS not comnunicating about bootloader unlock, i preordered an Elephone P7000 ! i love it too, but prefer the asus specs (but hate the power button on the top, WHY , JUST WHY here on a 5.5" phone)
I hope asus will release the bootloader before 20may, the official selling day of the elephone...
Before that, I already buyed a Motorola RazR, because nice and Motorola promised an unlocked bootloader after a month.... at place of this... they sell a new RazR DEV version with unlocked bootloader not usable on the normal version !!! Since this day, I never buy a phone with a locked one, even the compagny promise this ....
BUT the most important question for me : WHY blocking a Bootloader on an Android Open Source phone ??? it's just a potential BIG money loosing by loosing a rom flasher community ... i know insurance bla bla bla ... but i have android phones since my HTC Desire.... at least 9 Adnroid phones, flashing them more than once every month, and never bricked one .... peaople realy can brick a phone like this and cry with insurance ?.0...

I don't think the power button on top is a big issue. I never use it. Tap 2 wake and tap 2 sleep solve that issue and also prevents us from a future power button failure.
I use the power button. It's okay.

Expecting a paid BL unlock from taobao.com

today morning I saw a listing in taobao.com , regarding bl unlock for droid turbo 2 , for 75$ , but soon they removed listing ,if its true then we all will be the happiest people in this world , if any one gets the update related to BL unlock for turbo2 then post here
I remember a time where unlocking the bootloader and gaining root was a fun thing to do for those of us who like to tinker. I remember when devs made awesome ROMs for fun (and donations), back before Cyanogen became mainstream. Now to think we have to pay, especially something like $75 to gain full access to our own device... It is sad. But hey, for $20 I'll do it, but no way am I spending $75 unless I get a whole lot of ROM choices.

I completely agree $20 or 25 i would pay but not $75!
$75 is steep, but for the control I just may do it. Of course I'd much rather spend $20-25.

Gaining root or unlocking bootloader was much easier before, less number of devices to make rom for, etc. Now is completely opposite. Unlocking bootlader requires a lot of knowledge now and it's understandable that someone wish to monetize it. Cannot find
I would blame vendors or in this case carriers for locking our own devices. But I also understand why. IMO, solution is what Moto and some others do, offer official unlock with losing warranty. Would be nice to keep warranty but nothing is perfect.
something like this happened 2 years ago, it was a chinese motorola worker who unlocked the phones.

Again, please keep our names out of your "mouth". You do not represent us. We don't discuss future support (as we told you over and over when you were asking about droid turbo 1,you kept submitting the same question FOUR times in our support system).
I have all records of your support tickets, and I have records of your chat (Which you ended up getting banned from).
We wont comment on future device support, and we certainly wont give you insight to our private operations.

Stuttering

Hey.
I've been lurking in this section for about a week now, and from what I can see, people mostly have positive things to say about this phone.
I purchased, from eBay, a Hydrogen model and have constant stutters and lag in the UI/animations.
I have continued to experience this after flashing the "unofficial" Cyanogenmod 13 ROM.
Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? Really love the massive screen on this thing and don't want to have to return it...
Thanks.

Can't speak for MIUI but the only CM13 versions I don't have that problem are the two earliest ones v2(6-14-16) and v3(7-5-16) from the guy who left us. All later ones have it on my hydrogen... So yeah you are not alone.
Maybe it's that slow Snapdragon 650. You should've bought a Helium.
I bought one of the first Mi Maxes that showed up on ebay right after china oficial release... Couldn't wait for helium...
PM me one of your cores and we'll have seven each... lol

Will Xiaomi block unlocking bootloader forever?

What do you think? Recently, they increased waiting time to 720h...
I think this is bad practice and unfair. I can understand the waiting time as a mean of stopping ressellers from shady stuff. But it's unfair for people already waiting to be changing the damned clock all the time. I just want to get my awesome rn5 rid of MIUI. I got 360h waiting time. No problem, I was ready to wait. Now all of a sudden they double the time? Bad practice for them. How can I be sure that if I wait a month, the day I finally try to unlock I get a year? Not fair. I was a Xiaomi fan but now I will think twice before buying another one...
Oh really sure, so what phone should I buy to 250$?
Well, i think Xiaomi is not only trying to prevent resellers from flashing global roms on chinese market products but also would like the users to get used to their ecosistem, maybe after one month of usage you will not want to change rom anymore, maybe you'll decide that MIUI is not that bad as you imagined before. The MI A2/ MI A2 Lite have unlockable bootloaders via fastboot, you could get one of these if you don't want to wait. Personally i tried the Mi A2 for one month, it's not a bad phone, but suffers of several problems such as battery drain and pretty small community around it. I decided to send it back and get a Note 5 Global (Pro) for around the same price (10 euro less), since the waiting process is not a deal breaker for me.

If you tell me before I buy a Xiaomi phone - to unlock the bootloader you need to wait 1 month, 2 months ... Whatever" - I can live with that. I will wait the time and unlock, no problem.
What is unacceptable for me is having the waiting timer jump up and down randomly. Unlocking becomes a matter of luck and chance. This is not reasonable.

1080 hours to wait to unlock the bootloader ?!!

Hi,
I just go this phone for Christmas and I'm trying to root in order to get my apps and everything back, and I know Xiaomi has been annoying with security and put a lock between 72h and 360 (wtf...) but here I got 1080 hours to wait ! I Googled it and couldn't find anyone else with this much time to wait so please reassure me and tell me I'm no the only one ?
I've been looking for a fix for the past two days with no luck, I don't have any access to the play store and I'm stuck with a half chinese, half english semi brick I can't use...
Any help will be appreciated
don’t the hosts of phones obstruct xiaomi make the money
Every account can unlock one device within 30 days.
Maybe you unlocked an device and 30 days didn’t pass.
If this is not your case write to service email about the reason of such delay and share their answer with us.
I can add the feature of being unmanageable and it try to make public all staff you doing on phone.
I guess no one have a way to stop that.
"Дорогие Xiaomi, не мешают ли вам хозяева телефонов, майнить деньги?"
When I first requested unlock of my Mi Max 3, it said I had to wait 720 hours.
After around 360 hours, I was able to unlock.
So I'm not sure what the reason for the reduction in wait time was, perhaps due to me being a Xiaomi user for a couple of years.
I guess you could write to them or try again after a couple of weeks, to see if they've adjusted it for you.

Not really, Android is Open Source and so if manufacturers want the free software (especially ones like Xiaomi who don't even include Google Play Services in their Chinese ROM's so don't have to pay a cent to Google), they should give back to the community too by making bootloader unlocking fairly easy. It should be a simple option hidden in the dev settings menu at worst.

for the best ratio of the hardware/price
for the good battery and the bigger screen.
And please don't tell me I should be happy with locked boot-loader and mess with arb, i already have multiple reason to be not happy with it.

But as long as hardware is cheap and bootloader is unlockable I'll be happy. That's all I need from a phone.
