FAILED (Do not allow to flash Bootloader image on Unlock device) & TWRP - Failed to mount '/firmware' (invalid argument)
I'm using the Lenovo p2a42 32gb 3gb version (India)
My phone is stuck in fastboot mode. Bootloader is unlocked.
I have the latest twrp - 3.2.2.0 as recovery.
I flashed everything except the modem and bootloader to stock.
Bootloader & modem wont flash - cannot flash unlocked bootloader error.
I have tried everything I can think of:
1. Restore to stock 7.1 (cannot flash bootloader error)
2. Relock Bootloader (not allowed error)
3. Even gave my phone to a repair guy as last resort.
No luck yet.
Its 17000 bucks worth.
And has been laid to waste due to my ****up.
I really want to repair it myself if possible.
Please help me if you can. I'm open to any and all ideas.
Thanks in advance.
Alright mate,
Download this HERE
Extract it.
Boot phone into bootloader/fastboot mode.
Connect it via cable.
Run flashall - stock reco.bat and wait until it is done. Your phone will reboot on its own.
Gimme some details if it doesn't work. Don't worry, it'll be fine.#
Also: NEVER RELOCK THE BOOTLOADER VIA COMMAND, that is a sure-way to **** it up much more.

Seems like you have a faulty battery or something on your hardware side.
Fun fact: getting into recovery(twrp) is done via Fastboot since the button combo is a ***** and isn't reliable. The timing is too stupid done.
The one team rescue files always work as long as you're in Fastboot/bootloader mode.
It's worth the try
I can't thank you enough @sm00th4f3
You are my saviour. It worked perfectly & my phone is working now.
Thank you sooooo much & keep up the good work.

I restored the stock firmware.
My phone boots to the start screen , after I select the language it's unable to detect or connect to the wifi or to the mobile network.
Therfore I cannot proceed to finish the setup.
TWRP shows a firmware error-
- failed to mount '/firmware' (invalid argument)
Please advice @sm00th4f3

You shouldn't restore stock firmware from backup.
After using rescue tool.
Setup your phone from zero.
Or skip through setup.
Reboot to bootloader.
Flash latest twrp 3.2.3 can be found on official website
Change data system format to ext4 if it's not already.
Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik
Flash custom ROM of your choice
Flash gapps
flash magisk for root if you need it
Wipe dalvik and cache
Reboot.
Setup phone.

I followed your instructions. No luck yet.
After flashing the custom rom, the phone bootlooped.
I changed the data & system to ext4 , I get the failed to mount firmware error.

You really are new to this.
Use the rescue tool.
Let the phone boot.
Skip through setup.
Enable developer options.
Make sure and debugging is enabled.
Connect phone to pc.
Grant always access , which popups on phone.
Open a CMD, in the folder of your adb tools.
Use adb reboot bootloader.
Or use the button combo to get to bootloader /Fastboot mode
Flash twrp.
Boot twrp
Reboot to recovery twrp via reboot menu
Change file system of data to ext4
Reboot to recovery again via reboot menu in twrp.
Now use factory reset, then wipe system partition.
Flash custom ROM
Gapps
Magisk if wanted.
Reboot.
Wait max 10min.
Should work.

I 'm new to this & I appreciate your help, but
I followed your instructions again yet the error remains the same.
My phone is not detecting any wifi or cellular data - so I cant proceed /skip the process of setting up my stock phone.
And when i flashed the custom rom, the firmware error shows up.
And believe me I've tried a lot, but it just wont work.
I've come too far to give up now, any suggestions?

Before flashing twrp.
Use Fastboot oem unlock
.
Try again without custom ROM this time .
I'm looking into it.
Still stuck at the start screen,
I might be wrong but here is what I think is wrong with the phone:
The modem just won't flash therefore no wifi or cellular data.
The firmware is corrupted.
Thanks for your continued support.

Hello, well i messed up my phone really bad. deleted the bootloader. Phone wasnt working. But then used blank flash to get things working again. Just that it only charges now when i run it in bootloader mode. Now what i think u can do is delete all partitions using fastboot. I dont know the terms or words to say, but you can try to delete all partitions and then flash them again and check. use the stock files or what you call those emmc, modem and those bin files that is used to flash via fastboot. It may help but can be risky. Well hope this makes any sense

there is no need to erase your partitions.. Unless you want to brick your device for real.
But you can try it at your own discretion at risk.
i won't help any further since i don't know that much more concerning this kinda problem.

Hello,
I have been trying to go trhough google searches and this forum for a while now
Situation,
Had a working OP3 completely stock until this afternoon (not sure which ROM but latest OTA from stock)
- I currently dont have access to a windows PC and I am using ubuntu on a chromebook (chrubuntu)
Steps
I unloacked bootloader - successfully
I installed TWRP - successfully
Installed latest CM14.1 - successfully
After first boot Phone stopped rebooting. I tried to wipe everything and after this, I dont have a partition in my file explorer (on Ubuntu) therefore can't copy files to install
I tried to adb sideload. I get "error: Protocol (no status)"
Only thing that seems to work is fastboot
I have tried to install CM-14.1 recovery or original recovery but only CM14.1 works
It seems complete phone (system/boot/img) are wiped and therefore can't start.
Do you have any ideas? would like to unbrick the phone
Thank you

Thank you, just recoevered the phone with the modded TWRP from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...mate-guide-t3497940/post69566175#post69566175
Question is, what are the mods on the recovery? can modded recoveries give 3rd parties access to your system?
Thanks for the quick reply, I would just like to understand what is going on so it doesn't happen again. When will it be ok to flash official TWRP?

No, dont be afraid of that. The recovery is simply modded to allow booting 3.5.5 based operating systems.
The recovery partition cannot share any information to any third parties because its limited to a partition that is only active when you boot to recovery and the operating system is not running. And the operating system is running independent from the recovery you are using. There is no activity between your recovery and your system/data/cache or watever partition. Because they are complete different boot states. Only action is durring the installation or wiping processes in recovery. Or if you are flashing mods/roms/kernels or changing&updating your recovery with root apps like flashify. But again it only gives a command for a flash process or wipe process to the recovery. A recovery is not able to run any kind of service app so it is not able to share any kind of information to anyone.

Hi guys I got bootloop in my moto g5. First I got "failed to mount /data", now the phone boots in unlocked warning screen then says "erasing" then reboots and start over again.
Before the procedure my actions was:
- I got OTA update
- inserted a microSD
- unlocked bootloader
- boot on TWRP 3.1.0
- backup to microSD
-install TWRP
as shown by bootloader screen, my model is "cedric XT1672 32GB P5", M8937_8000.122.02.45R CEDRIC_BRAZILDSDS_CUST.
What I don't understand is why TWRP don't restore, as a made a backup before the procedure.
I appreciate if somebody could help me out!
I had the same problem. Wiping /data corrupted my partition table or system partition.
You need to flash the system and / or the partition table via fastboot from the extracted stock rom (see the other thread arround here, make sure you use the right link (cedric, not the potter one)
-> boot to fastboot
fastboot flash system system.sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.sparsechunk.1
...
It should boot normally afterwards, but probably twrp is gone / twrp has no access to your /data again. See the twrp thread, i'm facing the same issue. But at least the phone works again - without root
Greetings,
Chris

Hey guys, hello there. I need a little help over here.
The other day I made the mistake to install an OTA on my rooted Moto G5 (dual SIM). I had the stock image, TWRP & unlocked bootloader. Of course it failed to install the OTA, but the weird thing is that it always boots to TWRP recovery. No matter if I choose to reboot completely or to boot to system from the TWRP reboot menu, it always goes back to TWRP.
Tried a few things, but none of them worked. Mainly I remember trying the "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear" and did nothing. I didn't try this solution even though problem looks similar. Mainly I didn't want to have to unlock the bootloader and install recovery all over again.
Later I discovered that if I go to the bootloader and hit START from there, boots into OS. So it is functional.
Anyway, I installed Atomic OS ROM thinking I'll get rid of the problem and gain a custom ROM, and everything works, but the problem stays. If I reboot the phone, I have to do TWRP -> Bootloader -> System in order to get it to the OS.
Anyone has any idea on how to fix it?
I have the same problem, it comes back to recovery all the time and we can tell you about it, some help please

Hi, I've come back, hahaha, I installed resurrection remix 7.1, previous all the wipes and reboot in bootloader I gave start and started, great.
I had this problem trying to install the rom ViperOS. I solved it with one of these steps:
- Boot into Fastboot, select "Start" with volume Keys.
- Flash "boot.img" directly from the zip that is ROM, do this using a PC.
- If you're using stock rom, reflash boot.img
Greetings

Have you tried to boot from Fastboot?
Yes, it works once...
But if I have to restart it (or turn off and start with the power button), the phone boot always in recovery.
It is then necessary to restart fastboot then press "start".

Try do a full reset through fastboot and then try installing whatever you need through fastboot and recovery. Much more reliable han ota installs/updates

Anyone get the stock for 16gb/2gb version?
Unlocked bootloader.
Flashed TWRP bluespark one.
Tried to flash freedom OS which appeared to install okay.
Then phone went back to bluespark TWRP and that is all I can do.
Can select ADB sideload mode from TWRP but cannont get computer to recognise it.
Cant wipe data because it says unable to wipe data (device or resource is busy)
Cant get into fastboot mode either.
So all I have in TWRP. I can access USB OTG storage.
If anyone can save me, please let me know what do to. Much appreciated in advance.
PS - no I do not have back up, and ouch yes I know. Thanks again.
I also get this bootloop when I flash a custom
1)Try a hard reset(hold the power button)
or
2)Download the official Stable/Beta ROM, wipe eeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything(storage, /cache, /data, ART) and also factory reset and flash the official ROM
I managed to get into fastboot eventually, flash an older version of TWRP, it then let me do a wipe and I have attempted again to install freedom os 2.1 (I had freedom os on my onep3t and liked it)
Appears to be working now (installing) maybe I should delete it if works.
Would like to disable that bootloader is unlocked message if possible. Thanks.

As discussed over PM there is currently no way to disable the secure boot warning, rest is solved for you :good:
Yesterday it happend suddenly: Battery 5% left, just a quick newsarticle before bed and it left me.
At first it didn't even take any charge. Booted in recovery and it's at 40% now.
But booting doesn't work.
OP Logo, bootanimation for around 20 seconds, repeat...
What I tried:
Power off, reboot
changed active slot
Flash the boot image what was last downloaded by me a while ago (semed to be Boot 12.C44_BA, not sure)
Flash the magisk image
Flashed a C47 image
no difference at all, same boot pattern.
A little sidenote:
I have magisk on my op9p, worked fine. a recent ota update failed repeatedly installing in defaulkt way. at boot i had to switch active slot in fastboot a few times. then it booted to current firmware.
I am wondering why i get the same issue independent from the boot.img.
Why did the low battery started this problem at all? How can i be sure to have the right boot.img flashed.
And most important: how can i boot into andoird again?
let me know if you need more information.
Thanks in advance!
edit:
is it possible to install twrp and backup/restore later the important data?
use msm tool and make all new

thanks for the hint! I read about this tool. But this means a full wipe of system and user data, right? any chance to avoid this and rescue images before setting up new?
I see a few possibilities to get closer:
i can boot twrp via fastboot. wiping data seemed to not help.
mounting userdata doesn't work because it needs a pin code which is not my system code.
maybe i have the wrong boot.img? can i find out which firmware version is installed via twrp and flash the right image afterwards?

TWRP doesn't work with A12 only A11 at the moment.
Have you tried getting your hands on the C.62 firmware to local update?

Google search "Tool ALL IN ONE" download it and install. Download the C.62 firmware from one of the threads in the forum. Open the tool you installed earlier select generic device from the pop-up. Click on "advanced options" in the tool and that'll bring you to "adb sideload". I hope that works for you!
This sounds promising. I will try that later. To be sure: This will keep personal data like an usual ota update?
Edit: I'm still stuck. Heres what i do: Boot twrp (not install) from fastboot. in twrp start adb sideload. open the toolaio, generic device, advanced options, select firmware.zip and click flash under sideload. Than it prompts "phone is not in adb or fastboot mode". In the main window it show the device id and "adb sideload".
what am i missing?
