Android head unit - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

So Iv got a new car and I have the opportunity to fit a double din head unit.
Iv been looking over the Chinese android units,as i'm not the most of well off people, so Iv got around 80 to treat myself to one, Iv found one on eBay
But it trying to find a manual to look over unit a little more but these no model number.
And I don't want to buy one and it sounds absolutely s***.
I do have a subwoofer and aftermarket speakers in the car so wanting some type of decent to drive them, so any help would be great

Joying 2GB RAM 8 inch - installed with pics

Hey guys,
Not sure if i'm the first on this forum to receive my joying 8inch head unit but i got it last friday and installed it the same day. This thing is awesome.
I've never had an android head unit but i've been hovering around these forums for about 2 months waiting for a 2gb unit to come out. I got on the new joying unit right when it came out and purchased it on amazon right away. Their customer service was awesome, they made sure i had the tools needed to install it before they shipped it out (which i did). and it still only took 4 days to get to me (central USA).
Coming from a $600 pioneer head unit i could not be happier. This is awesome. If you guys would like some more pics, or information feel free to post here or email me at [email protected]. Also i am the only one to have a review on amazon so far
Won't let me put images cause i'm still new to posting.. so here is the URL broken up

Installed steering wheel controls. It was not to bad, would of only taken a few minutes if i would of known what to do. I own a Subaru WRX 2010. I had to wire Key 2 to Pin #4 and Pin #14 to ground.
You will have a car crash soon...
When you keep driving and taking/posting fotos (of your android radio) and fidling arround.
But thanks for the first impression. Looks like they changed the equalizer software from the fake 9 to a honest 3-Band EQ.
Anything about the Audio Quality?
Greetings

Seems good. better then the previous aftermarket radio i had in the car.
Also I did not make the post while driving.
Will you be rooting the device anytime soon? Any bluetooth issues with regards to connecting multiple devices/call quality? any problems with the mic?

Not sure if i need to root it as everything i want i think i can get without. i'm open to hearing arguements about why i should root it though.
I have not tested out multiple devices on the bluetooth, i can do that later today. I have not tested the Mic as i do not make phone calls often. The microphone it came with seems to be almost identical to the one that came with my pioneer, just like a $6 mic you can get on amazon.

Thanks. If you do end up testing the mic, please let us know!
@ AeonSaber:
please can you post a pitcure about your system information with the MCU version and show me the url about your purchase?
Interested in the mic quality also. Will be installing mine in a F150 with the factory sync system and hoping the mic quality is on par.
Question about the subwoofer settings on these units, are there any you can adjust like low-pass filter and/or cutoff frequencies and stuff?

I just installed an 8" in my Prius Plug-in, I couldn't get the steering wheel control and backup camera to work after 2 days of messing with it. So I took it to Best Buy to get that working. Tech support at Joying sucks and it takes 24 hours to get a reply from them.
Bluetooth connects to the phone, but music doesn't play, fm reception sucks, and it won't read my 128gig sdcard. I haven't had a chance to really get into it yet, but I will when I get it back from Best Buy and I'll repost then with a full report.

The FM reception is fine in my car, that is weird that it is not going well for you, maybe you could give the antenna more power. To get the 128gb sd card to work i had to put it in my phone first, my phone formatted it correctly for android, then i threw it into my radio. If you'd like some help with other things i am more than happy if you email me.
Also their customer support has been good to me so far, yes it takes a while for them to reply because their business hours are when we are sleeping. lol
I'm not crazy about the 8"+ units because they look like a tablet duct taped to the dashboard. The DDIN 7" all-glass units are supposed to be available soon. It would be nice if they'd increase the screen size on the DDIN units, there is enough bezel to increase to at LEAST 7.5, maybe even 8". You certainly don't need the row of capacitive buttons on Android, since they're just duplicated from on-screen buttons anyway!

Did you end up testing the multiple bt connection ? Like with a phone and an obd2?
Is the microphone 'visible' to Android on these? Ie, can you use voice commands ('Ok google'), etc?
I can't believe I'm considering going back down this road, but my Newsmy Android box bit the dust (head unit part is OK), and I don't have the time or energy to really push my DIY project.

I did not get around to trying this out. i did try to pair my ODB adapter and gave up after 5 secconds, was going to google it as this is my first android radio. Did not try out multiple phones. I will try to remember to do the ODB after work today but no promises.

I have not tried it. i'm new to android head units so i do not know where i would start that functionality.

Quickest thing to do would probably bring up some app (sound recorder?) that can use the MIC and see if it works. Google Maps, Google Search, etc.
I'm not familiar with the MTC series, but almost all of the android head units utilize an 'MCU' (in this case made my microntek) to control the analog audio sources, and mixes in the digital (Android) audio. That analog audio is typically not 'visible' to android (ie, you cannot record FM radio as the Android board only controls the operation of the radio through the MCU. It doesn't actually run that audio through an ADC back to Android.).
In most of the devices I've seen, the MIC port is wired to the Bluetooth HFP module, which is not actually part of the Android board. It's one of those 'analog sources' that the Android box can control through MCU commands, but the underlying I/O is invisible to the system.
How sturdy is it? I have a double din opening that is a little to small and would need to be trimmed to fit. I was thinking since the single din would be completely covered by the larger screen, I wouldn't need to modify the opening. Does it move when using it? I won't be able to stand it if it moves around or makes any rattle sounds. Thanks in advance for your input.

Seems sturdy. the screen mounts on 4 points to the single din, they are fully adjustable. It does not move at all when i touch it.
Where did you order your unit from? Amazon or directly from Joying? I would rather order through amazon for the better customer service but if they aren't shipping until the end of nov/beginning of dec I would order through Joying to receive it sooner.

front panel swap (eonon/kld) to kld2(???) ford to mitsubishi

2 years ago i bought a eonon unit for my ford focus (kd 7018) g616X rk3066 4.2 android. the unit was great and preformed well.
a year ago i bought another android unit but from ebay for mitsubishi outlander rk 3066 4.4. this unit had a faulty radio tuner that was poorly built. also, the reception was awful (on and off reception and need to on off the unit to hear properly)
i sold the ford car and was left with the good ford unit.
today i tried to find a solution for the tuner problem and all over sound problem in the outlander unit. i tried the dab and it worked ok, but i wanted the simplicity of the radio app. after reading a question here about switching screen i just got the outlander unit from the car and started to swap the screens.
i had much luck that the units probably came from the same assembly line but with different qc . so all i needed to do is chang two flat cables and change all the steel case between units.
after i changed the screens (and buttons and facia) it just worked!
i did not change the card with the processor and memory but to make the "face" fit i need to replace cd/case and dismantle all the unit.
weird thing was that the car symbol (ford) and (mitsubishi) "stayed" with the motherboard.
some pics:
You can change the car symbol go to factory settings and code is 126 and u can see car logos menu

Vehicle specific or double din w/ adapter?

I've been lurking around here for about a month now, just trying to figure out what would work best. I came across Android head units and this forum while searching for something with built-in offline GPS navigation and is compatible with Apple CarPlay but I've now become intrigued by installing apps to the head unit itself.
I'm pretty familiar with Android but head units running Android are quite new to me and I'm frankly a bit overwhelmed. I'm happy to do more reading here and elsewhere, but I have to say I find it very difficult to get much out of the massive threads. I've appreciated the Hui Fei wiki posts but I still feel like there's a bunch I don't know, specifically the pros and cons of the different types of units and where to buy them.
So from what I've been able to find, the best option right now, especially if I want to do any sort of customizing or upgrading down the road (rooting and swapping out processor boards) is to get an MTCE unit, so that's what I've been looking for. I believe the ideal unit is:
Android 8.0+
Octa-Core PX5 (I'm not sure I'm patient enough to wait for the PX6 to actually arrive in units)
2GB+ RAM (preferably 4GB)
32GB+ Storage
IPS Display
Steering wheel control support
I have a 7th Gen Honda Accord (2005) with dual zone automatic climate control. That feature in particular makes it a little more difficult to replace the stock head unit because the climate controls are integrated into it. My options are to get a aftermarket unit that has climate controls built in or to get a dash kit (like the Metra 99-7803) that handles the climate control and just has a double din slot.
My hesitation with a vehicle specific unit is that they seem to be poorly supported, and I can't find a decent US based reseller (I'm not very comfortable with the support and return policies of the sellers on AliExpress I've found so far). Also, it seems to be difficult to find out if a unit is actually a MTCD/E unit before buying it. The downside of a dash kit is that they basically add another $200-$300, the units have smaller displays or stick out a ways from the dash, and they don't look nearly as good.
Are there any limitations of vehicle specific units or generic units that I should be aware of? What would you recommend?

Mercedes ml350 (2006) with Harmon Kardin. All working but Steering wheel and CANBUS connection.

I just purchased a very cheap chinese android head unit from walmart.com (The price seems to have dropped even further, if it's the same one) and have it all installed in my ML350. I purchased, separately, an Optical Decoder box and have it also installed. I'm getting audio just fine (although of course it's just dropped to left and right..lost my full surround) but my steering wheel controls aren't working, nor is the CANBUS seeming to work. It's got a "Oudi" branded canbus decoder (Or at least the box is printed as one).
I don't see any Key1 or Key2, SWC or similar wires. The head unit is advertised as working with Steering wheel controls and canbus functions. From what I've read thus far, it's supposed to be able to communicate with canbus as is. It has 2 very long wires, Can-H and Can-L in addition to the ones that plugged into the harness..I don't think I had to do anything with them but I did see where someoene else having the same type ran them under the glove box to the long caterpillar like connection bar for Can-H and Can-L within the system. That didn't make any difference. I see some harnesses have a 2.5mm stereo jack to plug into the head unit also for steering controls but this doesn't have that etiher. Most seem to say that since the unit has steering learning that it all works through the canbus.
I've checked all pinouts and from what I can tell I've got them all correct. The can l and h were in wrong spots when I got it but got that fixed and at least the stereo is working.
Radio reception is less than spectacular, but it works. The stereo came with the adapter for that. My vehicle of course has that antenna amp on the back hatch under the window..always worked before. Also curious why this signal gets so back with that simple antenna adapter?
Anyhow, I'm overall happy with the unit (a bit slow at times, being a 1Gx16G model bug but handling that)
I've been in communication with the seller who keeps asking for videos, pics, and now wants me to purchase a new canbus at "any parts store" locally to try and they'll reimburse me. I dont' see anywhere that you can buy a canbus decoder anywhere locally.
I have such a hard time finding anyone with the same radio/wiring harness and this vehicle and can't understand why I'm having such issues with the installation SEEMS so simple. Yes I've gone into Protocol Settings in System settings and set to the "oudi" decoder. It only has 2 options. Mercedes-Smart, and Mercedes Fully Compatible. Neither works. It saves, doesn't require restart but I've tried rebooting as well. Even shutting off car when the radio is rebooting and starting it all together again.
Has anyone had any luck like choosing a different CANBUS? Like is it even worth going through them all? Surely the oudi box doesnt' have different hardware inside that might still work, but not be "oudi"?
I check data, etc I just get "no original vehicle setting function"
Did you ask the corresponding sellers about the matched CANBUS when you buy the android head unit? I've also been through this before, I purechased an aftermarket headunit from a Chinese brand called ATOTO, and I purchased their headunit for its affordable price, everything worked great, good connection to my phone, huge 10.1 inch screen display and good sound quality except the SWC interface. I have triple checked the connections and have tried two different Canbus interfaces that I have, and have tried both the key wires and the 3.5mm jack, the SWC interface simply doesn't work.
Then I contacted their support team and they also told me to buy a new canbus, and they told me to search on http://www.metraonline.com and https://pac-audio.com/, finally I got a new canbus and problem solved.
Hope this may help.
I have .. but they've been just.. run around after run around .asking for videos, pictures, wiring diagrams... Finally they say that it doesn't communicate with the Mercedes I this model....but ..it literally is custom bezeled for my model..comes with canbus decoder...states in the title of the item on walmart.com as for my particular video and that it keeps original steering wheel button function and all other factory features and canbus connection. So they're just lying to keep from having to send another canbus. Now just telling me to pack it up nicely and ship it back within 24 hours with tracking number to get refund. Heh.ill definitely check out your links tho! Thank you!

I'm sorry for that bro! If the headunit you bought is an universal one then it should be compatible with most of the cars. Good luck and wish you can get this thing fixed soon!

I find a kit (Best Buy has the same one I see, but it'll cost me $400 (at best buy) or over $600 on this site...for a $100 radio..damn..... haha weird thing though is that I don't think I have any SWC wires or 2.5mm jack or anything like that on the radio. Supposedly it worked through the Canbus...but...these kits all have that separate box as well. So....solution$$$ haha Thank you for this site though. It definitely reinforced for me the kit that I'm just gonna have to get. Plus side, I need this kit for ANY stereo I put in. Regardless if Android, no name or brand name standard deck.

Oh.... that's.... well you can also go check eBay, cheaper than most of shopping site, forget about the cheap **** it provides, the kits and hrness there should be cheaper. $400 is too much for a kit... If next time you need to upgrade another headunit, except Pioneer, Kenwood, etc. you can definitely go and try the brand atoto, although it is also a Chinese brand, happy with their serivice for now. Don't give up so soon bro! Try eBay again for the kits, lol.
