The phone only charges after reboot - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Hi, I need help with my phone.
A week ago, unlock the bootloader to install a custom ROM, more specifically Lineage OS. Everything worked correctly until one day I had a sudden reboot, did not take much importance at the beginning because I knew it was in beta, but since that day the phone does not charge the battery when I connect it or recognize it the pc, except when I restart the telephone with the cable previously connected to the power supply or to the PC.
just a moment ago I realized that in the fastboot mode if it recognizes when I connect the cable to both the current and the PC, so it is unloading the fact that it is my USB cable type C.
I am thankful for any kind of help.

So you're running a Beta of the Lineage ROM, correct? If so is it the Official version made by the Lineage Team, or is it Unofficial/ported to your device by somebody else?

I reinstalled stock because I thought the problem was some incompatibility with lineage, but the problem remains the same

Maybe it could be an issue with the kernel, try flashing the kernel for your device.

I can't find a tutorial, could you help me please?

Here is a tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alk_ZQo2hSE&t=1s
Just follow it, you will have to find either a stock Kernel for the Z2 Play or find a custom one that works well.
Another question... does your device charge while in TWRP (you have TWRP right?)

[Q] GPE Unroot/Return to Stock

Hello everyone,
I have spent the last 7 hours trying to unroot my LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition, but nothing I have tried works. The method I tried was to flash toe stock boot, recovery, and system via the Windows command line. Now, my tablet gets stuck at the "Google" logo when I try to boot it, and I get the red exclamation error when I try to boot into recovery. Does anyone have any first had experience unrooting the GPE G Pad, and can my tablet be salvaged or do I need to buy a new one?

Yes, you can at least salvage your tablet. Download latest twrp recovery, and install it in download mode. Then download the 510 ROM from the developer section onto an sdcard, insert sdcard into tablet, mount in recovery, install the ROM. You can then try again if you wish. Make changes one at a time, slowly!
There may be a different way, but this seems the easiest to me.
Why did you want to unroot?

Thank you for the tip, I'll give that a try now. And I rooted to try to install Cyanogen, but the milestone releases kept giving me the "process com.android.phone has stopped" and the nightlies couldn't connect to my Wifi.

So, I've tried flashing the 510 ROM both in the ZIP folder and in the extracted TOT file type, and am getting errors on both. Neither one will flash. Any tips?

You can't install cyanogen mod on the gpe. There are no custom Roms other than the modified stock ROM for the 510.
Let's start from the beginning... Did you install twrp 2.7.0.1? And can you boot into recovery?
Then, did you take out your sdcard and install the modified 510 ROM onto the sdcard from your computer?
Then reinstalled your sdcard to your tablet, rebooted to recovery again, mounted your sdcard, and then flashed the modified 510 ROM?

I don't know if you realize this, but the sideload update is 100% stock. Exactly the same thing you'll get with the OTA. Just a different delivery method.

Hi i followed all the steps as mentioned.... but after flashing restarting it is not going past Sony logo, not even the boot animation.
Please help
Hey there Just decided to share my experience. I have a D5503 and I flashed the 14.5.A.0.242 firmware. After this I decided to try to root the device, but since I had no TWRP or Clockwork it seems impossible to root. I lost my bootloader unlock too and no tool or method seems to be able to unlock it. I tried the official sony method, tried from flashtool and other similar programs but nothing seems to work (from cmd it comes up with and error message, some kind like "failed, cannot complete command or smth"). And yes,I've checked and my phone's bootloader CAN be unlocked. Any ideas what must be causing that or I just have to wait for a proper tool/method for root/BL unlocker ?

PureNexus ROM and ElementalX Kernal

Hi, i just got a nexus 5x and It is running the latest version of purenexus and has twrp recovery installed. I was wondering if elementalX is compatible with it. I saw a few differant scources that gave mixed answers. I was also wondering what happens when android 6.0.2 or whatever the next android version will be comes out. I saw that at the download page http://elementalx.org/devices/nexus-5x/ there was a differant version for 6.0 and 6.0.1 if i update my rom first and my kernal is at a differant version, or vice versa, will that mess up my phone? Thanks in advance
As long as ROM and kernel are same Android version (6.0.1) , you're good.
Thanks, but what happens during that time just after an update comes out and my rom just updated, and my kernal hasent

It won't update on it's own. You'll have to flash an updated ROM and therefore an updated kernel to match the ROM.
OK, thank you, just one more thing, can flashing a bad kernal hard brick a phone
If you have a problem with a "kernel" you can simply flash the stock kernel via fastboot. Takes less than a minute if you have the factory images already downloaded. And no flashing a bad kernel will not hard brick your device.
Thank you!
I have the elementalx kernel and pure nexus rom too and it's running fine now, except that App Standby doesn't seem to work (all active in developer options, inactive apps). Anyone else having this issue?

If you have a flashable zip of your stock kernel that will work fine. I personally like to have the factory images already extracted to my platform tools before modifying my device. If you have the files it is a simple fastboot flash boot boot.img. But to answer your question a flashable stock kernel will work just fine.
FYI to the thread starter, any ROM will have it's own kernel. So, if you update to a 6.0.2 ROM, it will have a kernel already. If you choose to flash a different kernel, it will need to be a matching Android version.

G4 is Finally Unlocked!

After a year of hard work, @steadfasterX has finally unlocked our device! Hopefully we'll get some new roms soon. Full thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
Edit: We are currently able to run any custom rom for H811 on our device! One thing is that we must do the modem flash in TWRP that steadfaster mentions in his FAQ.
Edit 2: Currently only stock Lollipop or stock Marshmallow will run on VS986 with everything working. AOSCP and other custom roms will boot but you will not pull the correct APN for Verizon and therefore will have data but no cell service including MMS or voice calls. You must have the stock MM bootloader stack flashed after you go through the UsU process for everything to work correctly and the stock MM modem.
@fates13,
I know you're trying to get Nougat working on your VS986 and it's not 100% working yet.
I suggest people wait until you get things resolved if they rely on their VS986 as their daily phone.
Please post an update here once you think everything is working. The other thread has a lot of posts since it covers other G4 models too.
Thank you
@fates13,
Were you able to get your VS986 to the point of everything worked after UsU unlock and ROM installation?

Yes but only stock MM works properly with data and cell. This can probably be fixed by a proper rom developer for our phone. Advanced calling also doesn't work properly so just waiting until @steadfasterX has time to make a UsU patched kernel for stock MM.

Are you able to boot to twrp.
If your still stuck on boot.img go to your salt back ups is located in the home folder and right click in the folder and click open in terminal put your phone in fastboot mode type in terminal "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and after that "fastboot reboot" and see if your phone boots up if you don't have the salt backup let me know

How exactly did you install TWRP? Or if you solely used magisk, how did you flash the patched_boot.img?
I was asking you about TWRP to see if you installed it. You flash all the files in fastboot. You get into fastboot by unplugging the battery wait 4 seconds plug it back in hold volume down and plug your phone in to your computer you should be in fastboot mode. You can download TWRP from the unlock Page. I will upload the pach boot.img and paste the link for TWRP later because I'm not at my computer right now. Be careful NOT to flash the aboot.img you should only flash the boot.img (once I upload it) and the recovery.img right now

Ah, different person than you were talking to before. The way I read your post, it sounded like maybe you figured out a way to sideload (if that is the correct term) the patched boot image that magisk makes without the part of the UsU method that causes "Once you go this way - there is no way back! SERIOUSLY. The only way to make the device exactly like before is replacing the mainboard. If you're scared: good." Maybe something like this: ?

Was just looking into my options for if I should wait until a method comes out that doesn't make a permanent alteration or if I should just go ahead and take the plunge with UsU. Your thoughts on whether that change that is made could affect me badly in the long run?

sorry about that the only way to root the latest FW is to unlock the bootloader. as long as you flow the guide and read carefully you shud be fine and if it's too scary just downgraded to LP and root that way (look on xda Verizon G4 general tab)
Has any one got calling and texting working on any costum rom for vs986?
Probably a dumb question, but I'm on 13b rooted. I read through the unlock thread and it mentions MM is required and anti rollback <=2. My ARB value is currently 2. Can I just use LGUP to flash stock MM? Will this preserve my ARB value?
