My OP3 keeps switching from LTE to 4G+. I have never heard of it until now? Is this only on the OP3? I have owned all the other flagship phones this year. None of them ever displayed this.
Yeah i see that too on T-Mobile.
Since i have never seen it display H+ , im assuming 4G == H and 4G+ == H+
Mine is doing the same thing on AT&T. Whenever I make calls it's goes to H which I understand due to no voice over LTE. But during some Google searches or videos it will flash LTE and then flash 4g+ back and forth rapidly. Even whenever I have full LTE coverage.
I think it's ok, and 4G+ only appears when high speed LGE datatransfer is active. I've seen speedtestresults above 150Mb/s
It's not HSPA. Under Sim status it shows network connected as LTE_CA.
Google tells me it's LTE Advanced.
Mine does this too, the fact that the icon isn't aligned properly bugs me out so much.
Same for me... Maybe there is issues with 4G+ and the OP3, so it tries to connect to 4G+, but doesn't work, so connects back in 4G.
Does anyone have a stable 4G+ connection ?

Check out my thread. It's a radio / software problem I believe. Should be fixable In an updated rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/radio-problems-t3405636/
Is it just a bug that when the phone accesses data it constantly flaahes real quick from 4g+ to lte?
I'm on att and next gen phone apn.

Maybe it is some kind of a bug, as I'm seeing that also and I'm on T-Mobile. I do have the option for VoLTE enabled, next time I see it doing this I'll try disabling that.

I'm having the issue here. Determined it only flashes to 4G+ when there is active data downloading. Otherwise it sits at LTE. US/AT&T here. Was considering going to T-Mobile to put a SIM in the 2nd tray and see if it does it there too, because I was thinking it was just an APN setting.
An easy way to tell is open YouTube and playback a video off of cellular..indicator will stick on 4G+. Alternatively, run a Speed Test, when downloading it will flash back and forth rapidly, however when doing the upload test it will stay on LTE.
I always thought 4G+ was the same as HSDPA+/HSUPA+ which is nowhere near as fast as LTE. Does anyone having the issue have a recent LTE phone they can swap back into and copmare speed tests?
Edit - typos.

4G is LTE. Not sure what 4G+ is. On LTE when it works I can get around 100 down.
Hmm, no 4G and LTE are different, in the US at least. 4G was marketed before LTE came about, you can see proof of this on an iPhone 4S, which did not have LTE radios but did label HSDPA+ connections as 4G. So you can thank Apple for the marketing confusion. However, upon researching this issue it seems 4G+ (with the plus, not just 4G) is the technical equivalent to LTE. It is just used in different countries, such as Singapore.
Regardless, the issue seems to have gone away after coming to work and being in different AT&T towers. I'm guessing it was just a graphical bug.
In Europe 4g and Lte is the same but the 4g+ is the new faster net

Pretty certain the one plus when using carrier aggregation shows the 4G+ and 4g when on HSDPA. Confusing for certain but when I've noticed it that's been the case (as much as I can tell without field test)

Basically combining two frequencies that use LTE for better bandwidth on the download speed as its currently mostly implemented.

Yes that's exactly what mine is doing, however today it does it sometimes and other times it remains showing LTE when downloading data. I noticed when it remains as LTE, the up/down indicators in the pull-down settings don't show up, which leads me to believe even more that the LTE/4G+ toggling is just a visual bug, as they are technically the same network connection.
I took contact with the Oneplus support about this problem. They told me to send them a log with a hidden menu ( call the *#800#). He sent the log to the development team, I will tell you if I have news

I assume that would explain these less than stellar speeds? I was wondering why the upload was faster than the download...

Can confirm carrier aggregation. Started data transfer and the phone information shows a change from LTE to 4G+ and the network type line changes from LTE to LTE_CA. T-Mobile US as well.

I had LTE for around a month, then out of nowhere, no updates, nothing it disappeared, it's been gone for almost 2 weeks now.
My carrier (O2-UK) says there is no issue, I have literally no idea, I am almost certain it's just Oneplus phones.. but anyone have any info?
As I said, I've tried custom ROM, I've tried all the stock roms clean flashed.

I can say that my phone often sticks to edge when I disable the wifi, it won't switch to 3g/4g unless I enable/disable it. I believe this was not the case with oos 3.2.1, with which my phone came with (only have it for a week now). This also happens with CM13. I think there was a update to the radio in the last oos update, so this might be the reason.
I am currently on OxygenOs 3.2.4 and my Lte seems to work properly. I tested it on a 4g area for about an hour or more and lte sticks with no drop to 3g. I will test it more and report back.

I get LTE if I go somewhere else, eg just outside off where I live.
But I had very good LTE where I lived too, inside, outside, then a week or two ago it vanished.
same here always reverting from 3g to 2g biggest issue with this phone
please fix this 1+ we all having hard time with this issue
my 1+3 never stays on 3g or LTE always go back to 2g
Silly suggestion, but are you on the correct APN? My oneplus initially connected on the incorrect APN for my carrier and I wasn't getting LTE, but 3G/H. Once I corrected it, my LTE was constant in the places it should have been.
Works fine for me you probably just getting a stronger h+ signal and it's jumping between mast's

That would make no sense. I had LTE for a solid month sat right at this desk, now, none.
Where I am in the UK we have loads of cell towers around me and it's always jumping about. There is an app that lets you pick what cell tower you want to use, I have forgotten it's name but might be worth a look. Or could be they doing work in your area. Sorry can not think what else it could be
The oneplus 3 and oneplus 2 just don't like LTE, they will find any reason to go to H+/3
Same issue
I am on Three UK, have came from a Galaxy S7 Edge, and that got constant LTE in most areas, now my phone seems to prefer H+ a LOT more than LTE, reverting to it whenever it can, not great, OnePlus really needs to address this issue, wouldn't mind so much if LTE in my area wasn't 75Mbps, compared to 10Mbps on H+

Same issue, same carrier, same frustration
Put me down for the same issue. With faster battery drain on 3.2.4, as well as random complete "no service" signal loss, for maybe 5 seconds. It's annoying as sin, and very disappointing. OnePlus at least is aware of the issue:

Fix
Have found no fix, have reverted to S7 edge, has MUCH better LTE and more reliable signal overall.
I'm just curious about how the Pixel 2 handles the network displaying in the status bar.
A work colleague and I both have a Pixel 2 (hers is 2 and mine XL) and we use it in Mexico with different carriers (I don't know if it has something to do) but for some reason her phone displays 4G whereas mine displays LTE.
I actually know that is the same, both Telcel and AT&T use similar bands and both's 4G is LTE, I just would like to know if someone knows the logic behind this.
If it matters, I purchased mine from Canadian Google store and the other is from US.

I think it's just how it is is with certain phones on carriers, or even the rom your using. Case in point. I'm on Verizon. When I use the stock rom, it displays LTE in the status bar. When I'm using a custom rom, either DU or AquariOS, it displays 4g. Everything still works the same, therefore, I pay it no mind.

I think in this case though they're both on stock. So it was most likely a carrier thing. I know HSPA+ can be considered 4G while LTE is just LTE. Reason being, the speed difference between the two can be a lot different. Personally I would want to know if I was on either one rather than just grouping it all as 4G. AT&T used to do this but I guess not anymore.

Yes, we're both in stock and I remember this setting could be changed in other ROMs from other phones I've used. I guess it's completely a carrier thing or could also be region related.
I also personally prefer to know if I'm on HSPA+ or LTE rather than just 4G grouping both as happened before with AT&T phones, so I like how my phone does it now. I might have to test with another carrier's SIM.
In my OP3T for instance, it showed "H+" for HSPA+ and "4G" for LTE for AT&T in Mexico and in AT&T US. At the end of the day the speed is the most important and I haven't had connectivity issues with my Pixel.

Here in Brazil, it displays "H" for HSPA and "H+" for HSPA+. So, at least here, the 4G stands for LTE.

That's even better. Very specific labeling. I'm on Sprint here so I just deal with LTE and 3G. No in-between unfortunately.
Just to let you all know, I tested a Telcel SIM in my phone and it is showing 4G on my Pixel. It's definitely carrier-defined.
P. S: I guess this in an iPhone would look like "AT&T 4G LTE" in the top left.

There is. My Gf received the OTA yesterday.. I did as well. We are with T-Mobile. However, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted so I ignored it. The security update will be next week, so I figured I'll wait to apply any updates.
4G and LTE are the same thing. Do a speedtest to check if you find the same speeds, but it's very likely just some regional assets not correctly fetched by the OS. The only reason why some builds show LTE in some countries is because of some very bad advertising from some providers (in the US for example some of them did that) where they called "4G" what should have been known as 3G+ (even though it was the same base protocol as 3G).
I'm seeing the same issue. Ran speed test and it's only hitting 10-12 Mbps. I'm also on AT&T. This happened after I updated today.
Flashed over with .020 and still having issues. No luck on the LTE.
I downgraded to .019 and was able to get LTE back. It automatically updated to .020 and I lost LTE again.
I had to downgrade back to .019 to get LTE back again. I turned off automatic updates in developer mode for now until the issue is gone.
xomikronx said:
Okay I figured out the issue. Hopefully this helps everyone here.
There are two updates from September, .019 & .020.
.019 is for all other Pixels.
.020 is for Verizon Pixels.
When the update for .020 was automatically applied to our phones, this is what broke LTE.
I didn't try updating from .3C to .019 to see if this would fix it. Maybe someone can try and report back.
What I did was just clean flash the .019 on my phone. Once Pixel applied the additional small update for Oct. I still have LTE.
Basically, we all on AT&T flashed the wrong firmware.
Good luck!

I have a Pixel 3 on AT&T. After the last hot fix I noticed that my LTE notification changed to 4G. I prefer the LTE icon as it is more informative that "4G" which has little meaning anymore. I ran a network signal info app and I am on actual AT&T LTE and my speedtest is 118 Mbps up, 6.7 down with 19ms ping. So am pretty confident that I am actually on LTE just that the icon changed. Based on your post I looked at my build number and it lists QP1A.190711.020.C3. So I guess I have the .020 that you reference.
Are you sure you did not have LTE and it was not just an icon issue? I don't really feel like flashing different firmware so might just live with the 4G thing unless the "wrong firmware" will cause some actual performance issues...

Same here. I have good speeds, just trying to figure out why the icon changed after the flash. Since the firmware was pushed to my phone does that mean Google is pushing the wrong firmware? I know this is not a regional issue because I flew around the whole US over the last two days with no change. I also reset my network settings with no change.
4G = LTE on AT&T.
If you are ever in doubt, do: *#*#4636#*#* from the dialer and select phone information.

I agree but I have always been on AT&T and through every Nexus and Pixel my notification bar always read LTE not 4G. My wife's P3 is on Google Fi with the latest update and it still reads LTE. I will check what hot fix build she got tonight. So why would my phone (and others here) read/indicate 4G now?
As I said, probably just an asset being fetched inconsistently. I know for a fact in other parts of the world it never says LTE but just 4G (because less bad communication around it here), so the system pulling one or the other is just up to how it associates the connected network to a region that says LTE or one that says 4G. My best guess would be that AT&T was misplaced in the last update for some reason that I can't imagine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I lost my LTE this morning.
Had to "disable" the Google eSIM.
Then re-enabled it and LTE came back.
Lost it again after a reboot.
Repeated the above steps and it's been solid since.

Thats for AT&T and/or Google to answer.
The bottom line is, regardless of what the indicator shows, use the dialer code and you will find out exactly what data network type you are on.
I have a Pixel 3XL and had the same issue. I did a factory reset yesterday and my LTE was good again
