I don't know if it's just me but after the August update the camera seems to be taking really washed out photos, it's like they have turned down the saturation, photos that would usually be punchy and colourful are appearing bland and washed out.
Anyone else notice ?
Thanks Andy

Have you guys checked to see if the screen colour settings have changed?
Checked that as well, I'm going to do a full factory reset and I'll let you know, the camera is really mediocre now compared to the first couple of weeks of owning it.
Factory reset seems to have done the trick.

Good to know
So a factory reset is needed after the august update? And that'll bring the cam back to what it was?
Sorry to double post but you can't add attachments from the lab app.
These are sample shots I just did to see if it's bad. No filters and shot in auto mode.

Can anyone else confirm the camera looks good after the ARF7 update? (t mobile here) I'm tired of having the update notification, but don't want to risk a messed up camera.
I did read on reddit that the 240 slow mo recoding is messed up though and stutters. Anyone else?

There are only 2 members out of the entire S9 forum who have reported anything being wrong with anything after the August update, one of which was fixed with a reset, just update
August update running fine here, no issues with camera at all

Im a huge Instagram user and I've been having a problem when snapping photos using Instagram.
Whenever I snap a picture, the photo will be cropped off 1/2 in on each sides thus ruining the composition. There are no issues on video though/
I'm currently on Omega v18 (stock rom based) and Im not sure if it's a ROM-specific problem or just issues of IG with the Note 2.
Can anyone else try this and see if after snapping a photo the final photo will get smaller or like zoomed in than whats showing in the viewfinder prior to snapping.
Thanks.
4.1 update doesny fix it.
Anyone kind enough to check? Im pretty sure most of you have Instagrams :/
No one has instagram to test this out?
No issues here, see.

Hi Chobie,
I have the same problem as you example. I took a pic of an apple, fit it into the whole pic and then when i snap, the end result is not what was seen before i snap. It sort of zoom in/cropped the photo such that you dont see the whole apple & the sides have been cut off. I'm also using Note 2 & i dont know when did this problem occurs. I searched all over the internet but it seems that no one is having that problem. My sister is using S4 but she doesnt have this problem.
Did you manage to fix it? I uninstall and install back the app, no help at all

Thanks. Nope still no fix for it. I even reverted back to stock ROM to see if it's a ROM problem but it produces the same problem.
I've reported bug to instagram's website so you can probably report it as well to escalate the problem.

Ugh. That's weird. I wonder what's wrong...
Happening to me as well. The only solution I could find was to disable the option to "Use Instagram's advanced camera" under "Advanced features". This way it uses the phones camera and then asks you to crop the photo on your own.
I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same problem. Samsung note 4. Stock Android OS. Instagram and an app called "paper camera" both have this issue.
I have the same problem too. I take a pic & it comes out all zoomed. I emailed IG but still no response. Anyone know how to fix camera zoom bug? I have S5
I have the same problem. Picture is zoomed after a picture is taken. Very frustrating. Clearing app data repairs the issued for just a while. Reported a problem to Instagram via in app feature. No response. I'm using Sony Z5, Android 7.0
9 Aug: Updated to Android 7.1.1. The problem still exists in Instagram. Very dissapointed. What's interesting - problem does not exist with a front camera. Has anybody found a solution?

My phone is fully stock and has never been rooted. I updated to 4.4.3 a few days ago, and notice the manual mode in the camera is slow. Even if I use the fastest shutter speed, it takes a few seconds to take a picture. Auto mode is quick as usual. Anybody have a solution?

Well you are not alone.
In the topic regarding the pics taken with the M8 we were discussing about the fact that now you can't see anymore what you shoot when using 4 second shutter speed (very annoying ) and also I've noticed like you that now in manual mode it's incredible slow.
I don't know I'd we are in the right place to discuss this matter...Personally I'm upset because I don't understand why they did this mess. I'm not fan of the UltraPixel camera and neither a fanboy, so I get used to the m8 camera, but now with this change HTC left me very disappointed.
I don't think they will revert back to the old camera...For them this is an improvement...

Man, that's crazy. The only improvement the camera needed was HDR mode (I use the lock focus trick, but I wish that wasn't needed), and removing the purple fringing if that was possible to fix in the software. Oh, if HTC added a fast shutter priority mode, that would have been nice.
But yes, they need to fix manual mode.
Guys I ve just got a used HTC ONE M8 and i was not aware of the features and functions of the phone. But after going through the reviews I came across duo effects but couldn't use it In my phone . Is there any way to troubleshoot the depth sensor or even check whether it's working or not so that even I can enjoy the benefits.
Can anyone please help me..??

Check out the below article, explains the functions and features.
What is it you're trying to do exactly and what happens?
http://www.htc.com/uk/support/htc-one-m8/howto/473767.html
Actually it is just saying that "duo effects is unavailable for this image"
For every image I take.
I know what are the procedure to take photos for duo effects so thr is no problem in that.
Duo effects are not compatible with manual camera settings. Its likely that you changed some minor & inconspicuous thing that's preventing you from applying duo effects.
Try the following:
- Clear the camera app settings.
- Make sure you don't change any setting, not even the flash.
- Make sure your fingers aren't blocking the depth sensor, and that its clean from greese (a simple wipe will do)
- Test drive the camera and the gallery for duo effects.
Cheers

Ya I did everything said above but it's not working.
I guess it's a hardware problem :crying:
Download an app called HTC Guide. It has diagnostics and other features. Might help figure it out.

We're still not ruling out the software side. So, next step: clear data + cache for Gallery, since its responsible for using the depth sensor data to apply effects. Then, when that fails, you still have the tedious task of hard resetting. Then its either a bad rom flash or hardware fault

What about resetting the camera app settings to default?
The option is on the settings menu when in the camera app itself. Do that then just open the camera and take a normal photo without changing any settings and try editing it from the gallery app.
These options need to be set so that duo effects can be used:
Scene Auto
Flash Off
Filters None
Aspect ratio Wide 16:9
Zooming Zoom slider should be at the minimum zoom level.
Continuous shooting Not supported

Did you get this resolved? If so,how?

I got mine fixed just now. I had done everything previously as suggested without luck.
I had to go in to setup then apps then the gallery. I cleared cache and uninstalled updates. My gut feeling is that it was a gallery update that broke it.
Good luck,

You're right. I'm new to this phone from the M7. I just switched carriers. I re-installed the gallery update and the Duo functions still work. I'm not sure what happened to my phone before then but it seems good now.

I am trying to figure out what, or if, I am doing something wrong. The 2 xl should have a great camera, yet my recent pictures all come out grainy (for lack of a better word). It is worse when viewed on my PC. A couple of examples are attached. I have tried with and without flash and adjusting my room lighting the best I can but nothing seems to clear it up.
Currently I have flash set to Auto and HDR+ Enabled.
What else can I try to clear this up?
(Attachments pending upload from my phone.)
Have you tried to reset the camera app and revert it to its original settings? Under App info, storage, hit clear data.
Hmm I think the photos look nice ?
The first picture looks like you could lower the exposure. That might help a bit.

They look fine to me. Try the same on an S8+ and you'll get worse. That is pretty low light.
Also, don't bother with the flash, absolutely no need with the Pixel 2, picture with and without comes out the same.

Hard to say for sure because I'm not sure exactly how much light was in the room, but those do look a little on the fuzzy/grainy side from my experience. This camera if nothing else is incredibly sharp, yet that is not the case at all in these pics. Have all of your pictures looked this way or only recent pics? I would definitely try resetting the camera app settings to default. If that doesn't work I'd consider a factory reset and if that fails, then RMA.
Hmmm,
Seems like the HDR+ mechanism trying to bring shadow details bit too much, resulting in chroma noise,
You can try to reset your camera app,
Btw, have you updated to 8.1 ?
Thanks to everybody for the feedback. Some more information based on the comments:
Running 8.1 on a Verizon Pixel 2 XL
Did reset the camera app after it was suggested. Not seeing much difference on the same bookcase.
It is not every picture. I have a few closer item pictures that look perfect. To test I snapped one off our back deck during the daytime. The brighter scene is a lot better overall, but you can see the grainy texture in the darker areas.
Anyone else noticed how Whatsapp video calls (using the selfie-cam of course) is really zoomed in? Found myself having to hold the phone quite far from my face to achieve the normal framing, as otherwise my usual distance means my entire face is the persons screen that I'm calling!
It'd be great to change the zoom and maybe even utilise the stock cam for the wide angle option, but realise this is likely not possible?
Does using the volume keys change that while in the call?

Hey.
I actually noticed this was fixed before the Dec update. So I'm unsure whether this was fixed in the mid-Nov update or though thinking about it, perhaps it's a Whatsapp app fix rather than Pixel fix.
I had logged the error with Whatsapp and note you have the Pixel 6 and not 6 Pro, so I'd advise raising it with them.
It's great though just to say, feels good to not have to hold the phone so far away from my facew just so the other person doesn't get my ugly mug filling up their entire screen lol
It's definitely not fixed, I have the latest Dec update on my pixel 6 and what's app video call is still zoomed into my face n blurry.

Grrr weirdly after the Dec it's back to being zoomed!!!
I swear guys it was fine and now it's not, so I'm clueless as to what origin of this problem is.....
Update: reported it via the built-in method within the app (last time I just emailed them) which sent logs and device info however because I'm rooted they said it's unsupported.
Perhaps someone unrooted with this issue could report...

Same here. I'm on
SQ1D.211205.016.A4
This also happened with the November build.
Probably the fractional zoom levels offered by the P6 cameras. A *lot* of software can't zoom out less than 1.0 and needed updates.
I'm not rooted and I'm in the Dec update on my pixel 6. I've sent the logs through to what's app so hopefully they reply back
Hi has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'm on the newest 220205.004 build and this problem still persists.
**Update: Joined the Whatsapp beta test program and can confirm the zooming issue has been fixed! So it appears it's been a Whatsapp issue all along and not a Pixel issue. If you're not part of the beta test and don't want to be, then I guess waiting until the new update comes out will be your best solution.
I can confirm the issue is fixed for me running WhatsApp Beta.

Not exactly. Its actually silly for the "back at you" camera to have a fractional zoom level. It doesn't actually zoom out, 1:1 ratio is zoomed *in* a bit.
It does make some sense on the "away from you" camera, since there are 3 separate sensors and the MAIN sensor is defined as 1:1.
