[Discussion]Hack to disable automatic beautification in Mi A1 portrait mode? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if this has already been looked into (can't find anything related to it). The automatic beautification in Mi A1 portrait mode is really awful in most case, and there is no way to turn it off.
It's sad, because the portrait mode of this phone is really amazing!
Of course, I can use Gcam instead (which I do), but the result is quite different, so it would be nice to get both options!

my brother and I have both a MiA1, and he's always complaining about that. anybody?

Yeah its really annoying. I just use Gcam for selfie photos instead of the stock camera.

True ! Xiaomi camera has better edge/distance detection if compared with Gcam, but its bad in low light. But the performance in good lighting is really good, but again, destroyed by that ultra fake skin softening effect. Would be nice to see that feature being turned off. I sent feedback via the Feedback app last time bout 5-6 months ago, not even a single reply from them. Hmm.

Keep your eye on "PRO" camera setting results.

I just wanted to post a heads-up about the "PRO" camera settings. I am a fulltime pro photographer and was happy to see more manual control integration in the camera. As I was taking photos for another thread, I decided to use the S6 to see how well the camera does. The camera is GREAT! But, I am very disappointed in the manual White Balance.
The light used for the shot is a pro studio LED fixture at an exact 5600K "daylight" color rendition. (My Canon DSLRs shoot these lights at exactly 5600K for perfect whites.) The S6 did a very good job on auto - it was just slightly warm, maybe about 5800K. The photo taken in the "PRO" setting with the WB set to "daylight", though, was WAY off. Extremely magenta. Not good. I'll play with it more in different circumstances when I have the time - I'm hoping it was a one time error. (I don't have the time to do further testing today.)
Glad to see a fellow photographer in here. Naturally I'm excited with the performance of the camera. I haven't had the time yet to put it through its paces in pro mode yet.

I've been shooting strobes only (and natural light) for 15 years, but just added a full LED panel studio setup for constant lighting, and was hoping I'd be able to play around with the S6 on some studio shoots. I'm sure I'll still be able to, just not using PRO. I'm sure I'll figure out a way that works, I'm just disappointed because I was excited about the "PRO" mode.
Man I wish we had the G4 mashgiah mode!! Makes our pro mode look like a joke lol. Only thing better about that camera however.

This thread is about the G5's camera, so that's irrelevant... Unless, of course, they use the same camera and I didn't know?
But I still agree with you. I don't see how that's possible that the G3 has a better camera.

yea they have the same sensor
and i had g3 it has bad cam beside my lg v10
I came from the S7 and before that the iPhone 6s Plus. I can't take decent photos with the G5 to save my life. It's frustrating.
What?? Is it true that G5 has worst camera ? Phonearena says it has best camera when compared with S7 and 6s plus.

If you put it in manual mode and mess with it a bit it'll take great pics. Auto mode sucks. For me at least. And yes, I've made sure the lens is clean and all that.

I understand. But it is hard to take all the pics in manual mode. I have G3 now and planning to by G5 in a couple of months and it seems i have to rethink about G5.
Yeah, this phone takes great manual photos, but that's about it. The anti-shake was way better in the G4 over the G5- does the G5 no longer have the laser focus? It was incredible how good the pictures were with the flash off on the G4; in my experience, most phones (including Samsung) take shaky photos with flash off, and are able to focus much better with flash on.
Also, like in all LG phones, panorama is completely useless. They should just get rid of the feature altogether. It doesn't matter how slow or steady I move, everything always comes out jagged. Very annoying.
yeah, I feel the same, my dads G3 camera is awesome... but even under the the G5s latest v10d, the images were clearer and OIS was more stable on the G4 in AUTO mode. I do use Manual mode alot, but sometimes its nice just to pull out your phone and snap a quick situation or a few quick images.
Intrestingly, I find sometimes in "Auto" mode, switiching "OIS" OFF (toggle "OIS" and "steady cam" mode in camera settings), takes better Macro shots, which says to me.. that in its current state, the G5 camera needs work.
However, the G5 camera is a really great camera and a really great device all round, its just a shame reviewers seem to go more for how it looks rather than its innovations
Mine are crisper and more detailed with g4, specially the front canera. Could be this due to an high compression? Maybe there's a trick to loer jpeg compression!

Nonsense.
LOL! The worst camera comparison in history. I am not saying G5 is the best but it is certainly not what the website said it was.
Hey look! Comments section was closed. Go figures.
Anyway, the last close up shot was the worst! No reputable review site would use close up image more than 100%. These are camera sensor made for phones, they are not meant to be zoom beyond 100%.
I Love this phone's Cameras: my pics are coming out better, sharper and better balanced than any other phone i have had my hands on this months and that includes: 6s, 6s+, G4, and S7. Of course this is subjective but i really LOVE the camera. (Auto mode is meh tough when compared to 6s', need to be objective there. I was taking a pic today: my girlfriend's face with a stongly lighted background _door in the sun_ and even if messing wigh manual mode gave me the best pic, auto mode just wasn't keeping it up with my gf's 6s which gave out a decent picture immediately.)
Gotta be honest. (Of course i didn't tell her )
I'm somehow disappointed. The camera oversharpens the pictures most of the time. But the wide-angle camera always oversharpens them. I wonder if it could be fixed with a newer software? Also the pictures get blurry at the slightest movement. But it's still a good camera.
4/5
very high
Camera is very good especially in Manual mode but one thing I found out about the Auto mode that HDR tends to blur details a lot more when zoomig in than taking picture with HDR option turned Off. Hope they improve the camera on Nougat update.
I'm also pretty disappointed with the quality of the G5 pictures in auto mode. Not that they're bad or anything, but I find myself having to take multiple pictures to get acceptable results, particularly in poor lighting. Never had that issue with my G4.

What's so bad about the camera - here are a few photos

Here are a few photos I've taken over the past several days. One tip is that if you tap on the screen on the area you want to expose properly the lighting will adjust for that area and you will get a better exposure than without tapping. Same goes for the selfie camera - if the view on the screen looks over exposed tap on that area to get the proper exposure - you'll have about 5-8 seconds to hit the shutter afterwards. Good luck, Tom

Thx for photos
Im planing to buy LH V30 but the problem is im so scary to buy it because sometimes I think camera is very bad. 1,6F is good but 1um pixel size is very bad. And LG don't invest so much in LG camera application. You can see the problems like slow motion low bitrate - bad quality. And EIS is very bad. LG is big company but they still don't do things on write way. Like OnePlus 5 have just EIS and it is like Google Pixel phone, fantastic stability on every video. Why LH didn't do this? Why they put 1um pixel size camera? And etc...
But still I like this phone so much it is like All in One. I will see in near future what to do
P. S.
Coming from OP5, I would like to sell it and buy LG V30. The OP5 have very bad camera at low light and night.
And when I go to rooms where is very low light or like no light at all like sometimes in discotheque and I took photo with OP5 with flash ON the photo is still very, very BAD, so much noise and photo is not clean and small details. And when my friend with Samsung S7 or S8 took photo in the same place, then is different story. The photo is very beautiful, clean and no noises, so much details and very, very good like DSLR. The flash on S7 and S8 is very good.
Can you (or someone) please take few photo in low light and total night with LG V30 and Note 8 (or Samsung S7,S8), to compare photos. This will help me a lot. It will be good to potograph some person in the very dark and in bad light with flash ON.
Thx you a lot!

Better focus too so sharper in low light as well. This i have noticed on my v20
The g4 wasn't like this, pretty much aim and fire and focus was always good. Strange there still is a IR focus assist so it shouldn't be necessary
Not fast shooters but i'm ok with that. If i need speed i know what to do in manual

Camera/Photography thread - tips, apps, advice

Hi, guys,
I'm coming from an Xperia Z3C, which had a camera that was pretty bad. Even though some bash the XZ1C camera, it's a lot better than what I used.
I'm no photographer and I dont' know the apps, so I'd like everyone to share what they know and use.

Despite people putting down the stock camera, I find it does take good a picture, although using a small tripod gets the best results. This is far from idea for a phone, but just resting the phone on something solid dramtically imporves the picture.
The focusing seems to be better if you turn off 'object tracking' and although HDR is supposed to be automatic in the auto mode, I tend to shoot in manual with HDR enabled. The predictive capture is a good & useful tool. I wasn't sure when I first saw it introduced, but it does a burst shot when it gets triggered by a smile and dramtically increases your chances of getting a great picture.
My favorite post proccessing app is SKRWT. I love taking landscapes and this is great for straightening things or there are some funky mirror effects.

What about the resolution? Many people avoid the 19MP resolution for different reasons.

19MP is the only resolution. It's the native size of the sensor, meaning you get one=one. Anything else is derived from a software interpretation.
People seem to be obsessed by letterbox, perhaps because that's the way they watch TV. If you don't like the square shape of a 19MP picture, then edit it afterwards, but a least get the best quality you can to start with.
I've taken some decent shots with Open Camera. I like its DRO mode (dynamic range optimization). Haven't had much luck with stock camera app, although I'm a fan of the wide angle selfie camera.
the camera is good not more... not a lot of choices in creative mode, iA can't be customized, "macro" focus at 10 cm... at least it's pretty fast
I use the stock app, mainly in manual mode without object tracking (with that setting on I find the focus is a little inaccurate, maybe just an impression).
Overall i would say the app has all you need to take a photo plus a couple of nice features (like autofocus burst mode and predictive capture).
Any tips on what kind of exposure and ISO to use in manual mode? My pics always come out blurry.
Edit: For example, would the tips here apply? https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/xperia-xz-camera-how-to-optimize-manual-t3534640
Sounds like most people are saying choose a low ISO and EV a little below 1.
I'm particularly interested in tips or settings that don't require a tripod, because I don't own one. And I think it's unrealistic to expect people to use a tripod to take decent phone pics.
I had a big night shootout in Frankfurt with XZ1c and Galaxy s8. Im not good in photography and all shoots are in Auto mode. Couple of shoots are manipulated in Adobe Lightroom in Auto light and color corections. They names started with LLR....

I'm no photography expert, but I could see the difference instantly on most of these. The XZ1c photos were blurry and seemed improperly exposed. The S8 wasn't perfect, but it was generally a lot sharper. This basically mirrors my experience with the XZ1c and my previous phone that had a better camera, HTC 10.
Has anyone installed AOSP and got the Pixel's camera apk working on the xz1c? This is my main motivation for going the root -> rom route.
Take a picture of a green lawn or of leafy trees, and there's often an unpleasant, slightly smeary watercolor-like effect. Is it possible that using another camera application would prevent this processing effect?
Hello,
I am sorry in case this has been covered so far. I did not find it.
I have a custom ROM (RR6), but would like to use the stock Camera mainly for the slow motion 960fps video recording. It seems to be possible via this topic:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...-apps/app-xperia-xzs-panorama-camera-t3577514
But even if it worked, it would replace the custom ROM's Camera, which I'd like to keep. Is there a way to run these two Cameras side by side?
Or should I use another 3rd party app that does the slo-mo job?
Thanks a lot for anz advidce!

yea thats my concern as well. I am not sure if drm fix can re-enable the 960fps slow mo or is it gone for good after unlocking bootloader. If only we can get gcam and stock camera run together

Few testing photos
I've loved the quality from the camera , I came from a Galaxy s10 and the difference is crazy noticeable, man the sharpness , contrast ,detail , zoom , bro is amazing I'm freaking nin love with this phone , sorry I can't upload photos , xda app says "bad request" ?
I don't know...the quality of the zoom is pretty junk
cause there is no zoom just sensor cropping and pathetic pricing, try Mi 10 pro
I like S20 Ultra 108Mpx sensor. Mostly I'm shooting on this sensor with export to 12Mpx in Lightroom if I'm not using 0.5x or 4x lenses.
https://photos.miksa.cz/Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-5G/Plucinske-skaly-18042020/
So I had an exynos S20, camera was very poor even after the update.
The 64mp camera had practically no auto focus, and the lag in taking the pic ment blur on every photo.
The lower resolution helped with the auto focus however still lag in the photo taking.
I am so much mad at this quality of photos near objects
I was trying to send my friend photo some resistors , and tried 5 times and photo is not sharp !

The main camera isn't for shots that close
I hadn't had a Samsung phone for a while, and I've come from a Mate 20 Pro, so although the camera on my S20+ "can" be better, it sometimes isn't at all. Macro is one area where Huawei does it so much better, all you need to do on a Huawei phone is get close to the target and the ai automatically switches camera lens for you to the best option, and focuses perfectly... This is something Samsung seems to lack, and it's a big miss for me. But surely, something that can be added in software.

Used to hate that with my P30, there was no way to disable AI from switching to macro, if they'd added that feature to the AI on/off function it would have made a lot more sense
Didn't you just used to turn off Master Ai? That's what I used to do on the Mate 20 Pro on the odd occasion and it was very easy, but personally I thought it was mostly a great feature.
